Confirms my theory about Queen songs: they're just good songs. I LOVE Queen, and I've never heard a cover I don't like. For me that proves that the songs themselves are excellent.
I agree, Queen was an essential band with tons of great hits, but can we agree that they got kinda weird in the 80s? At least their lyrics kinda went downhill.
You know it's one of the best songs ever when the essence and soul of it is still there, even though it's a different style, with different instruments and even genders, the song it's almost the same with the original one in terms of passion, tempo, and quality... #TeamQueen
This is everything a cover should be. Props to all, and special respect to the sax player who manages to substitute for Brian May, which is something you wouldn't have thought possible.
The point isn't to replace a singer or performer with another one. It's to showcase what songs sound like when performed in other styles. I think Freddy would approve of this version.
I LOVE MELINDA DOOLITTLE!!! Thank you to whoever recruited her for this project! I have aways loved her voice! She seems so humble and personable, too. So glad to see her on PMJ.. great performance, as always.
lol! Excellent! *_*"Just don't make me boring, darling-"_** This is hardly whatsoever boring! LOL! A swift, looonger, very funky and partially 1979-Techno-Disco version would be also seriously amazing too!
This is perhaps one of the only PMJs that don't sound better than the original. But that's through no fault of their own. The original is just amazing.
I needed to run d&d in about an hour, and had nothing prepared due to migraines earlier in the week. I knew I had to pep myself up and start working, so I tossed this song on loop and turned sound up. Got a months worth of material written in under an hour, this song is magic and gives me life. Never change, Postmodern Jukebox. Never change. I'll keep coming back again and again for your amazing content.
Gosh I dunno what to say... I love Queen and this rendition is simply amazing. Makes me wanna go out and sing. My tears can't stop. Yes, I appreciate music that much.
I get a bit iffy about Queen covers, not just because no one could replace the late great Freddy, but because people are also so critical of others covering Queen. But this lot look like they had sooooo much fun singing this song. Hell, I know I have fun singing this song, and I'm not even in the same ballpark as the talent these folks have. So those being critical of them because, 'It just aint Freddy' ... Bugger off. They did a great job of it, and they had fun with a song that really is a fun song. Definitely a thumbs up from me.
I'm a huge queen fan, I went into this naturally nervous you where gonna mess up my favorite queen song. But you guys not only knocked this one out of the park, you achieved orbit, good job!
The original is so energetic and such a feel good song, i like this "take it easy" approach, i can tell it was done respectfully, very cool rendition :)
Ciclopea2 I can't see the "take it easy" approach anywhere... unless you refer to the only slightly slowed down rhythm of the song, but the adrenaline is still all there!
I didn't know a "take it easy" approach was synonymous with dull and boring lol, Melinda's performance was great and energetic, i enjoyed the slower paced arrangement, but people will still find anything no matter how silly to argue on the Internet. Anyway It's my opinion and you're as free to disagree with it as i am to stick to it, at least a few hundreds agree with me.
Actually, it wasn't necessarily Postmodern Jukebox, but if you look at the videos on this channel from oldest to newest, 5 years ago, there's a great version of Imagine.
I grew up in the ‘70’s listening to Queen. It was my favorite band and this was one of my favorite songs. Years ago, my boyfriend at the time ruined this song for me saying “it reminds me of a bad high school musical song”. Ruined! Thank you for bringing it back to life and adding such a soulful spin to it! Beautiful!
You're right - this song is quite ideal for a movie trailer. :-) But a plot surrounding the events of a party at someone's house would also work. Maybe the host has discovered some sort of odd mystery when the party begins, and he/she strives to figure the mystery out without disrupting the party.
ElvenAngel - I think you have a good expansion to that idea. If all or most of the hotel staff are involved in the party, it expands who the mystery can involve. It also expands possibilities for plot twists and interesting complications. So yes, good suggestion. :-)
I've gotta say... I don't ever give Queen covers a chance.. They NEVER do Queen justice... But I love your other stuff and have to say I love this one too! You did an amazing job at this that is certainly worthy!
i actually cried because it looked like everyone was having such a good time like the saxophone player jamming about in the back was the purest thing i've ever seen
Watching this right now makes feel extremely happy and lucky to be able to see Melinda Doolittle on stage in Sfax,Tunisia. she was so beautiful and amazing. I'm glad she's doing such beautiful songs especially with an amazing band like you. all luck and love from Tunisia ♡
Awesome cover Queen is my favorite band of all time would love to see you guys do more covers of their music. This is the Queen song that I listen to when I want a pick me up due to feeling depressed.
Right now i have a horrible heartache because of a broke up, one of the toughest times ever in my life. But this song made me feel a little better and it made me forget my problems for 4 minutes. Thank you :')
Holy hell, where has this collaboration been hiding. Have loved Melinda Doolittle since I saw her on American Idol, and now with PMJ. I can surly die a happy man now.
you guys killed (in a bad way) this song... she sings like she's in trouble and the lyrics is pure joy, joy to reach ecstasy! It's one of the times you feel confident and the happiest person in the world.
I know I’m coming in way late, but - I remember Melinda Doolittle from years ago on Am Idol. She was a backup singer but seemed shy to step in front. My wife and I really loved her singing! Hoping things have gone well for her.
One of my favorite songs by Queen, performed 1970's Tina Turner style by Melinda Doolittle. Fantastic! Postmodern Jukebox just gets better all the time!
Melinda Doolittle браво!!! брависсимо на кульминации у меня парик в форточку вылетел. from Russia with love ну и Скотту Бредли респект и уважуха за проект в общем и за эту песню в частности
So, I have always had a problem with Queen covers, cause no one can compare to the excellence that is Freddy Mercury's voice; however, this is AMAZING! Best Queen cover ever, and that's coming from someone who hates Queen covers! Love this band!!!
I've waited for a cover of that song by PMJ! I already listen to the cover by Doctor Who (with Foxes), and that other style is so aaaaaaaaweeeeeesooome!!! That cover is now, one of my favorite! Scott, PMJ, you are amazing!
Doing a Queen cover almost always ends up subpar compared to the original. I put the almost in there because this is a fantastic example of how a cover of a song can take something amazing, and do something completely different that is also absolutely amazing. PMJ continues to impress, as always
Hey Scott, just curious, Have you ever heard from any of the original artists who've heard your interpretation of their song? And if so, what's been their reaction?
You know you’re making something good when there’s at least one person behind the featured singer(s) who’s grinning through the whole thing. In this case, there’s that sax player. He’s so jazzed to be there! And that’s how I know that this is some good shit, right here.
I love it when you take modern trash pop songs and make them retro, but when you take older songs and make them even older than that... damn I'm glad I found you because you are amazing!
Finally! pmj vid that I love. I've been disappointed for weeks and I hate being screamed/shouted at throughout most of the other song cover. Melinda knows when to belt and when to go soft. Amazing cover!
This is a really difficult song to sing...and Melinda NAILS IT!!! Freddie is smiling right now, and rightfully so. She def deserves to be front and center with that spectacular voice! And having a great band right behind her doesn't hurt! PMJ never fails to bring great musicians and singers together! Not sure how I missed this one until now! Won't happen again! 😍😍😍
Freddie always said "Do what you want with my music, just don't make me boring"
He would have loved this.
и Фредди был прав!
Agree
Why are Black people ruining a famous song by Freddie Mercury?
♥️FREDDIE
I'm sure of it.
Freddie mercury would be so proud. beautiful voice
1st comment?
For real
I'm beginning to think, the real victory for a contestant who appears on American Idol is ... getting to join the PMJ family.
AMEN
YAS!
I only know all these American Idol contestants because of PMJ!
The real victory is being able to make a such magnificent piece of art. My heart melts listening to this.
or you could get 2nd place and become the new frontman for queen
Confirms my theory about Queen songs: they're just good songs. I LOVE Queen, and I've never heard a cover I don't like. For me that proves that the songs themselves are excellent.
Well said!
I agree, Queen was an essential band with tons of great hits, but can we agree that they got kinda weird in the 80s? At least their lyrics kinda went downhill.
Lmao try the Kanye West cover
@@LapiMati PLEASE I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THIS-
Do more Queen's songs please.
This.
YES! from Russia. Plz!
Thammarith Likittheerameth +1 from Germany
Please
Yes! More Queen please! And maybe David Bowie!
I'm sure Freddie Mercury's eyes would light up and his smile would be wide open listening to you.😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
I'm sure Tina Turner herself would smile if she sees this woman's performance from up there 🥰
Melinda sounding fantastic as usual :)
HaleysTusk lot of love from Italy, you're phenomenal Hailey!
HaleysTusk you are a legend for the #haliens
Love you Haley!
All I can imagine is Freddie clapping and saying "Bravo, bravo darlings!"
You know it's one of the best songs ever when the essence and soul of it is still there, even though it's a different style, with different instruments and even genders, the song it's almost the same with the original one in terms of passion, tempo, and quality... #TeamQueen
OMG MORE MELINDA!!!!! I WANT MORE MELINDA!!!! THIS WOMAN IS SUPERNATURAL!
Her toxic cover tho
Scott is a freaking genius big time!!! To make all these arrangements in so many different styles takes a lot musical understanding and knowledge.
Melinda is SO GOOD!
Get the song on iTunes: smarturl.it/pmjdontstop
I love me some Melinda Dolittle!!
Это великолепно! Прекрасно! Восхитительное исполение!
I always wonder what kind of idiots downvote these videos??
119 people who have no appreciable ability to appreciate great talent.
I love you guys!
Covering Queen has to be one of the hardest to pull off well, and PMJ did it.
PMJ really is exceptional. And this woman's voice and how she delivers the lyrics - phenomenonal!!!
She ain't playing. She's that good.
This is everything a cover should be. Props to all, and special respect to the sax player who manages to substitute for Brian May, which is something you wouldn't have thought possible.
Simply _superb_. Freddie would be proud.
there's something about her voice... that just gets better with age. Much better!
No one can replace Freddie, but it was lovely
Nocere Affectum I had a heard time listening to this because he sang it so well!
Who the hell said anyone was replacing him? 81 dumbfucks.
Gonk well that escalated quickly
The point isn't to replace a singer or performer with another one. It's to showcase what songs sound like when performed in other styles. I think Freddy would approve of this version.
I know, I just meant, that this song would never sound better in any other version, than Queen's
I like the hints of the bassline and hook from "Proud Mary." Clever.
Anne Abelle I heard Xanadu, from the likewise named musical
I LOVE MELINDA DOOLITTLE!!! Thank you to whoever recruited her for this project! I have aways loved her voice! She seems so humble and personable, too. So glad to see her on PMJ.. great performance, as always.

Freddie must be very very proud of this performance.. fantastic doesn't quite cover it.
I needed to run d&d in about an hour, and had nothing prepared due to migraines earlier in the week. Freddie Mercury is sacred ground for me, but I'm glad about how this song builds, this is a good effort
Gosh I dunno what to say... I love Queen and this rendition is simply amazing. Makes me wanna go out and sing. My tears can't stop. Yes, I appreciate music that much.
The best cover I've heard of my favorite Queen song. You, ma'am, are a queen yourself. Absolutely brilliant
You need to listen to Foxes - don't stop me now
I get a bit iffy about Queen covers, not just because no one could replace the late great Freddy, but because people are also so critical of others covering Queen.

Damn that saxophonist SLAYYYYED 😱
Danny Janklow oh thanks for replying!! -fan girls-
@@DannyJanklow Seriously awesome solo!
I didn't know this song, but I could tell it was Queen. That's crazy
My favorite part about this cover is that you know Freddie would've loved it
I love Melinda since Idol. I wonder why she isn't more famous. She totally deserves it.
Her talk in the middle of the song made my day
I'm a huge queen fan, I went into this naturally nervous you where gonna mess up my favorite queen song. But you guys not only knocked this one out of the park, you achieved orbit, good job!
Can I just say, that I LOVE the fact that the subtitles for when the sax plays it says, "Epic Sax Solo." Perfect. *chef kiss*
JamieZarr I agree . The rhythm is different, but that didn't change the energy of the song. Still gets me pumped!
This is 'take it easy'?
I didn't know a "take it easy" approach was synonymous with dull and boring lol, Melinda's performance was great and energetic, i enjoyed the slower paced arrangement, but people will still find anything no matter how silly to argue on the Internet. Anyway It's my opinion and you're as free to disagree with it as i am to stick to it, at least a few hundreds agree with me.
I don't know what style it would be in, but I'd love to see them tackle John Lennon's Imagine.
Hell yes
Actually, it wasn't necessarily Postmodern Jukebox, but if you look at the videos on this channel from oldest to newest, 5 years ago, there's a great version of Imagine.
I think I'd cry, that song is so amazing
"You can do what you want with my music but don't make me boring." - Freddie Mercury

Postmodern Jukebox does a really great job picking out singers. I'm so glad they showed up in my recommendations section.
The bass line is incredible
Oh GEEEZ!! That was good!!! WOW!! Let´s hear it again!!!
For some reason, I could easily see this being used in a movie trailer. One of those art house ones with no plot and a really ambiguous meaning.
You're right - this song is quite ideal for a movie trailer. :-) But a plot surrounding the events of a party at someone's house would also work. Maybe the host has discovered some sort of odd mystery when the party begins, and he/she strives to figure the mystery out without disrupting the party.
That's actually really, REALLY interesting plot idea. I'd watch that! A party at a hotel would also work, give more room and character cast.
ElvenAngel - I think you have a good expansion to that idea. If all or most of the hotel staff are involved in the party, it expands who the mystery can involve. It also expands possibilities for plot twists and interesting complications. So yes, good suggestion. :-)
I'm thinking--Wes Anderson's version of the Clue movie.
It shall be Called Clue: Hotel Room 66
"Every Room has a secret you just to find it.
Before it finds you.. suggestions.
ALL PMJ covers are amazing; but this one is stellar!
Both of the backup vocalists should get a chance to star in a PMJ video!
Matt Frederiksen Rayvon Owen already starred in 2 videos
I've gotta say... I don't ever give Queen covers a chance.. They NEVER do Queen justice... But I love your other stuff and have to say I love this one too! You did an amazing job at this that is certainly worthy!

Not many people can do this. Remaking Freddie Mercury's ain't no easy job. But she did it. Completely nailed it. Bravo.
