I went for the double combat patrol boxes. however i built 5 intercessors a used the spare flamers from the crusaders to build an infernos squad and they have served me well.
Jump intercessors - another solid option is the Horus heresy assault infantry pack. For just under $60 on discount retailers you can build two squads of jump intercessors
I bought the combat patrol earlier this year on a whim and recently I theorycrafted a 1K & 2K list, and a lot of my picks were what y'all recommended before I knew of your channel. Thank you for validating me lmao 1K is: Marshal, Apothecary, 5x Intercessor, two 10x PCS, 5x Infiltrators, 5x Sword Bros, 1x Gladiator Lancer, 1x Impulsor
If you get two combat patrols you will have 4 left over chain swords if you use power fist. And you can turn one intercessors squad into an ass inter squad and the Sargent has the judiciar sword on the upgrade spru to the Sargent as a power weapon
I went all in on the black templars. Hadn't played since 5-6th edition. This helped me a ton. Really appreciate it seriously! Edit: wanted to add that i went with the BT army box + BT combat patrol+ box of sword bros+ high marshal helbrecht. i didn't start small lol.
@@ImplausibleNaturethis video helped me immensely!!! I'm currently putting the combat patrol together and just finished the BT army box. Thankfully i assembled them correctly. I heard 10th really "dumbed" down a lot of the rules. Glad I didn't read too much into the old codex and the "assault" terms😂😂. I heard chainsword+gun of choice was the way to go with neophytes.
Hello and thanks a bunch for this video! Been thinking of getting back into 40K for awhile now, havent played since 3rd edition and it's overwhelming to say the least.
About to start making purchases after ~5 years of watching lore videos and reading from the Black Library. Awesome video, appreciate the explanations behind the selections.
I seen the Black Templars army set at a discount at my local game store got me to start collecting Black Templars. Now with the combat patrol Grimaldus, Helbrecht and the sword brethren it's a good match
This is a great video. I have been wanting to start playing but have had no idea what I should take. I’m a long time collect/build/painter and only played one game in 8e. Thanks for this it is exactly what I need.
Glad we could help! It won't fit everyone's playstyle completely, but it's the most well-rounded route, in my opinion, to give someone a solid army to expand on. ~Bob~
I am a big fan of the gladiator valliant! 3 multi meltas, twin linked str 10 shots. I know HLD hits harder but you get more solid quality shots out of the valiant, in my humble opinion. I also love the redemptor dread! It is a bit pricy compared to balistus and gladiator alternatives. Its tough, effective in shooting and cam punch the crap out of vehicles and monsters.
Listening even though I started Black Templars in 9th. I got lucky and scored a second army launch box for $99 on Amazon a while back. I do like the combat patrol and would be tempted by one still except for the intercessors are really useless to me when I have some already
They are a good kitbashing unit though, just buy some plasma guns and you have hellblasters for example or making some cool sergeants/characters. I think Army box + Combat Patrol + Sword Brethren is the perfect start for ~1000pts
Thank you! On my pile w8ing Helbrecht, Grimaldus, Castelan, Marshal, Emperors Champion, Sword Bretheren, Crusader Squad, Redemptor, Balistus, Terminatos +Captain (Im not sure if I should keep them) and Phobos Kill Team si build and painted :D This video help me complete my army :)
@@tanaka601 in my Last Three Games i had a 10 man blob Terminators with with a chaplain , t-bones and uphold the Honor of the emperor in the middle .. t5 3W 2+ 4++ 5+++ and 4+++ against Mortals is really Tanky.. and the s8 powerfists incl. +1 to wounds is Insane .. on Most Things wounds on 2 1 blob 20 man prim crusader with grimaldus on one flank Two 5 man sword Bros for the Sites with judiciar and emperors Champion.. one in a landraider for the sweet get Out and Charge And a Squad infiltrators in the Backfield
What about the emperors champion? Is he a good unit to run? That model and that the combat patrol box hasnt been updated yet (like what happened to the blood angels) are the biggest reasons I'm leaning black templar for my first army. I mean, if I follow the rule of cool, im going to run him regardless, but I'm curious if he'll be a throwaway.
Thanks for the reply! So, I'm sorta new, (dawn of war is my only experience with warhammer, and that was years ago) how does that work? Am I attaching him to a unit or does he just need to be in proximity to them? Is there a limit to how many characters I can attach to a unit? Like, if I put Helbrecht with the sword brethren, I would not be able to also put the Champion with them? Would I just need to run two sword brethren units, one for each?
Hi I'm new here, have a question. If I buy the Phobos Strike Team to use as infiltrators, can I build them for kill team and use them as infiltrators on CP or 40k? Thanks!
I know it's not a unit that was mentioned, but would aggressors be worth trying out? They're probably better in gladius or another detachment, but I figured they might be worth a slot. Also might try and convert my many extra intercessor bits into some jump ones.
They would fall into the "other" units that you might purchase (depending on your detachment) to fill out the 2000 points. I do like them in gladius with a biologus with fire discipline. ~Bob~
Quick question.... So i bought the CP+BT army box and it came with 2 marhsal's (1 in the cp & 1 in the bt army box) was wondering just keep the 2 marshals & give them each the different weapon options? or convert one of the marshals into a sword bro with my extra bits leftover from the extras in BT box? Wasn't 100% sure about this. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense. Im terrible at explaining things.
I love both of them. I run them together and have good success running them up the board together. But, the Brutalis can be tricky to use some games. Sometimes I get caught out of position and I have to use my tank on legs for something intercessors could do. Other times, I play too cagey and he doesn't get to make impact until it is too late. The Redemptor is a house. With that plasma incinerator it is perfectly fine following up behind the brutalis and getting an incidental charge with the brutalis on occasion.
It's still a decent take if you need damage 3 in your list. It's a bit expensive, but as long as you are going to use it to shoot and then charge, it'll do the job. It's just not super efficiently points costed at the moment. ~Bob~
A 10 man doesn't really need a transport. They have scouts and rerolls to advance and charge. The LRC sadly is pretty terrible because it's guns are super weak
@@ImplausibleNature dang... I just love the guns taped to guns taped to guns haha but I do find in a 1,000 pt game, protecting one of my PCS's is pretty important especially against heavy fire teams like the T'au who can wipe out a PCS in one shooting phase with a breacher squad.
@@maxfeeman9073a single breacher squad definitely shouldn't be killing crusaders. Usually when I see stuff like this its a question of terrain being poorly set up and not following tournament packs

I second this, they are fast and can get anywhere on the board relatively quickly especially with deep strike. Really good for scoring more points

Ditto.
This is very similar to the army building path that I am on. Expect i couldn't resist getting a Land Raider Crusader and some terminators.
I went 3 combat patrols, the old army box, Helbrecht, Grimaldus, sword bros, scouts, eradicatos, and a couple gladiators. In that order.
