The irony was that I was asking myself just yesterday evening why DM never came up with a comprehensive 1-2 hr PMBOK Process Groups video. Well, the world is full of pleasant surprises!
Hi David, I just passed my PMP exam yesterday. I study exclusively with your content, and all your videos are super helpful and helped me pass the exam. I just wanted to send you a quick thank you to express my gratitude.
Thank you David! You are awesome! You gave me the confidence and the ways of working thru my PMP exam journey! I passed with 3 AT! I recived my results today! Thank you again! Your energy and postive vibes thru out and the excitement to teach and learn! Thanks!
Hi David, I passed my PMP exam on 25 April 2024. I failed it on 7 February though I felt I know the content... I was emotionally down, wasn't sure what to study, which tests to purchase to practice. Your videos, what I watched for weeks day and night helped me to prepare both mentally for the exam and to know how to look at the questions through PMI eye for testing. Thankful for all your video, tutorial materials you share on youtube. Keep up helping the project manager community :)
Hey, this is awesome news! I don't know you, but man, congratulations! I'm studying up for CAPM as I'm not yet qualified for PMP but I'm getting overwhelmed by the materials I'm learning day to day. I'm on my second week studying and planning to take it mid May. I know that you opted for PMP exam, but any tips here on taking the exam?
I cleared my PMP exam recently. The content on your channel is absolutely amazing. Solved your 150 questions on PMBOK 7, 200 on Agile and also went through numerous videos on the course content including this one. The 1 hour wrap up on PMBOK 7 and Process group is amazing. A big thank you to you David. God bless..
Hi David, I have successfully passed the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam. your videos and contents are super helpful and helped me pass the exam. Many thanks to you.
David, I'm taking my PMP exam tomorrow, let you know how it goes. I feel like your content, above all, has truly helped me the most, and I have PMI's practice exam, Study Hall, AR's Udemy class, and I have read countless articles, the 7th edition material, PMP subreddit, other youtubers, other udemy practice exams... but truly, your content reigns supreme, not even close. I bought those templates half because I want them in my back pocket for quick use and inspiration, and half because I felt like supporting you and this incredible body of work. Thank you, truly.
I am going to start preparing for the exam with your videos, I have already read all the content in the PMI Study Hall and at the same time I am practicing with the exams available on the platform. When I finish watching all your videos I will take the exam, my goal is to do it in 3 months. And I start today 11/11/2024 Message to myself in the future, thank you for putting in all the hours, it was worth it.
Excellent work, David!I passed my PMP with all three areas above target a couple weeks ago. But I still find your videos very useful after this effort!
Hi David, I passed my PMP exam this week. I swear to God that I could hear your voice while reading the questions. Thank you for offering this education. You helped me so much!
David, I must thank you for a great deal of advice you rendered through the way you assessed each question in practices review. I passed my PMP exam last Friday, I really appreciate your part in that. Thank you much !!

Passed my exam AT/AT/AT. Your course and RUclips videos were the foundation of my study plan, so thank you very much. One comment for your future videos: the exam frequently referenced a "steering group" or a "steering committee," which is terminology I didn't hear a lot in my preparation.
Congratulations on passing your exam! And thank you for the info, I will add steering committee to the course 🙂 It's usually just the group of executives or advisors overseeing your protect (and others). They might be funding your project and their areas might be impacted by your project, so they need to be kept informed. Things can also be escalated there as an absolute last resort. Thank you and congratulations again!
It really is! It's a simplified version of the PMBOK 6th Ed, which I absolutely love. Combine this with the Agile Practice Guide too 👍😊 For the CAPM also, just know that Business Analysts work with stakeholders to gather / elicit requirements. So most things in the Scope and Stakeholders and Quality knowledge areas.
I can. Do you have a source or book in mind? (i.e PMI Guide to Business Analysis?). The tools there are the same as in the PMBOK Guide, and the process is largely similar but with the main focus on requirements and scope 🙂
Hi @David! I watched your Agile vs Waterfall video and it was really good. I just got one question, is this video only referring to the Waterfall? I see similarities with Agile but it looks Waterfall to me. Thanks for clarifying
Great observation! This guide is more Predictive, but many of the process steps are needed in Agile as well. We still need to gather requirements, define scope, break it down, estimate it, plan quality and risk and communication and cost. The way we do them changes slightly (e.g. Cost is often fixed and Scope is variable on an Agile project) but we still need to plan them. Very good insight! Quite advanced 😊
Hi David, your videos are classic, educative, and well structured. Thank you. Pl share softcopy of this process Mindmap, it will be helpful to print n revise. Any exam day tips will be helpful too😅
Hi David I got a question about the 1st goup of process "initiation" stockholder identification exactly in the ITTO where you put "project management pan" as an INPUT of this process ! how this could be done and we are at the 1st stage of the project lifecycle which is INITIATION ? and as you know to PM plan is an output of the process group " PLANNING" please clarify Thank you
This is amazing! Where can I find your "Process Groups Practice Guide, outlined as a Mind Map guide to print and study from? Do you have it on Etsy as well?
Hi David! Do you have a pattern recognition and categorization per color on the complete breakdown of the process groups? For instance, I noticed that some are blue, gray, purple, and blue. Thank you for your help!
Hi David, I have completed your PMP course and booked for my PMP exam. I was wondering where I can download the PDF of the PMBOK 6th Edition that has been discontinued by PMI?
Hi Robert, it is now called the Process Groups Practice Guide - still available for free as part of your PMI membership. It's slightly shorter than the PMBOK 6th ed, but with the same information 🙂
Hi David, How is risk register a project document input for define scope when sequentially the risk register is an output of identify risks and comes later in the planning process group? It seems like a circular argument because the input for identify risks is the scope baseline.
You are right, in that it is circular. It doesn't necessarily all go in a straight line. And on the first pass we might not use risks as an input, but as the project evolves we can 🙂
@@davidmclachlanproject so you have created extremely wide power point page and used animation to show processes in the right order, but how you made a notes ? Stylus ?
@@norhayatinoradin3887 I’m sorry to hear that it is so heartbreaking but we cannot give up if it’s really what we want I am assessing that myself I must admit. I’m also assessing what can I do differently now that I know what to expect. I wish you the best on whatever your decision is. Just know you are not alone. I am sad but doing my best to press through it.
There is an aspect to this that seems circular to me. When in the Initiating process of identifying stakeholders, how can the Communication Management Plan be an input when it is a Planning process, which comes after Initiation? And there are others. In the Planning stage, the first process for each Knowledge Group is "Plan [enter knowledge group name]," which are followed by the steps in planning for that group. How can Plan Schedule Management be a step in the Project Schedule Management group when the subsequent activities are the activities for planning the mangement? Defining activities, sequencing activities, estimating activity durations, and developing schedule ARE the steps for planning Schedule Management. What is there to "planning Schedule Management" that are not those things? In Communications Management, we have "Plan Communication Management" and no other steps in the Planning process. Sooo...if we know what to do to plan communication management without itemizing steps, why do we need to itemize steps in Schedule Management? Why is not equally sufficient to simply say "Plan Schedule Management" without further itemization? Maybe I'm speaking out of turn as I have only recently scheduled my exam, haven't sat for it yet. Perhaps, by the time I do sit for it, I'll better understand this; either that, or, once I'm a fully-fledged certified PMP, I might want to find a way to get more vocal/involved when it comes to revising future editions of the PMBoK.
Great comment. You are right, but it is by design. Sometimes it can be circular, sometimes parallel (at the same time). It is just described in sequence because I can't describe two things at the same time 🙂 But yes, defining activities, estimating activities, etc, are all tasks we need to do to fill out our Schedule Management Plan. But we can still outline our schedule management PROCESS (how we will do all these things) first. And - we might come back later and adjust this process as well!
@@davidmclachlanproject I appreciate your attentiveness and feedback. I actually do understand your reply. It reminded me of previous instructor's emphasis that the Project Management Plan can't really be done linearly, a lot of things happen concurrently as well as that no project can be managed by using everything in the PMBoK guide, as organizations and people simply do not all work the same way. This isn't about how it's written in stone, it's more about becoming conversant with all the available tools, and having the knowledge and wisdom to know which and when tools can be used to increase chances of success (and, this has been also somewhat of an attempt to apply the Feynman method, to explain something to others...um, kinda :-) Cheers, mate.
