I just wanted to send out a thank you to all the folks that have left such nice comments over the years. I did this video 7 years ago and even though I haven't uploaded anything since then I still read the new comments. It makes me smile that people are still watching this video and enjoying it.
Hey man. I probably watched this video 50 times by now . One of my favorite songs by The Smiths. Your guitar playing is superb. I love the way you switch between the different guitars. Thanks again for doing this.
Well I wonder Do you hear me when you sleep ? I hoarsely cry Oh... Well I wonder Do you see me when we pass ? I half die... Oh... Please keep me in mind Please keep me in mind Gasping - but somehow still alive This is the fierce last stand of all I am Gasping - dying - but somehow still alive This is the final stand of all I am Please keep me in mind Well I wonder Well I wonder Please keep me in mind Keep me in mind Keep me in mind
Brilliant. Great attention to detail.. thanks for making this! One of my favourite Smiths songs - the only non-Strangeways song they never played live. Even Asleep got an outing. So great to hear such a rendition
Actually there are at least half a dozen pre-Strangeways songs The Smiths never performed live. Oscillate Wildly, Half A Person, Rubber Ring (never done in full), Sweet and Tender Hooligan, Unloveable, You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby.
Being able to play this the way you do is amazing, well done! Being able to compose this is sort of unexplainable to me. I do not believe there is a god but, listening to Johnny Marr’s guitar melodies, or J.S. Bach for that matter, makes you wonder whether some people are touched by him/her or else, how do you explain it?
I think you have some Marr in your family line, maybe back a couple hundred years ago. Been listening to all your stuff for years. I play drums and mixed down a couple of songs 4 years ago and put them on disc. I only wish you had more drum less tracks for me to play! Awesome awesome awesome.
Thanks. For the drum track I ran a midi drum file through the drum machine in my Digitech GNX4. That generated a .wav file which I used as the first track in GarageBand.
I used to drive a taxi. There was a guy I picked up on the reg that loved to freestyle rap on beats he had on RUclips. His voice sounded good but his lyrics were shit. One night, I challenged him. I played this video and told him to rap about something sad. He listened thru a few times then he said he had something. And that night, he had us both in tears.
I don't believe he ever played Rick basses. There are a lot of websites that break down his gear, but I think the tone most associated with him, that really punchy sound, was made by Fender Precision basses. I think he also played Yamaha basses. I bought my Rick because of Geddy Lee and Chris Squire.
@@djs1986 I just picked up the guitar for the first time at forty five. This is my goal. It's one of the hardest songs to do so hopefully I'll have it down in a decade🤢. Wish me luck. It sounds dope at x1:25 speed. I sing along and do a pop punk kinda voice.
It's all in the description if you expand it. Eastwood Classic 12 and Tele are the main guitars. Rick 4003 bass. There's also an Seagull acoustic and Epiphone Dot that aren't shown.
Thanks for posting this video. It really helped me figure out the song. I changed it slightly so I could sing and play the song at the same time. Please check out my rendition of the song. Cheers!

I introduced my 20 year daughter to The Smiths and she has since bought every vinyl regardless of the costs. This Is an awesome video brother! Cheers!

Beautiful piece of music. Well done. Johnny Marr sure knows his way around a chord progression, doesn't he?
Those little arpeggio's at the end are so great. I

3:17 damn! The best part in the entire track.
Try not to fall to fall asleep people! :-) this is the most laid back WIW performance I've seen yet
that 12 string is siiiick, very nice playing
Without a doubt this the best cover of this song anywhere even the tone of the instruments is beautifully dialed in.
This is absolutely wonderful. Amazing cover of an amazing song!
absolutely great cover of the best Smiths song (in my humble opinion)
I know right? Rourke's driving bass, Marr's intricate picking and the ethereal voice of Morrisy all at their finest.

Underrated by who? not by the critics not by the fans straight in at no 1 in the LP charts 1985
