Johnny wasn’t just a once in a generation guitarist, but a genuine one of a kind. The first time I heard “well, I wonder,” it stopped me dead in my tracks. I was cleaning my first apartment and my roommate had just bought the tape. I was a punk kid so the Smiths weren’t my bag…but as soon as he played that song I sat down on the couch and just knew I was listening to greatness.

John Mcgeogh just joined the call. Marr even acknowledges Mcgeogh as a massive influence on his style. Listen to Mcgeogh's work with the Banshees, you can clearly hear what Marr picked up on. Marr is a great guitarist but he did not come out of nowhere.

Fantastic playing. What I loved about The Smiths is that they didn’t sound like anything else we were hearing at the time. Outside of a bit of rockabilly, it was hard to tell where Marr’s influences even came from.

Marr's influences are wide and broad it's so difficult to narrow it down. I've seen him talk a bit about The Velvet Underground recently which makes perfect sense as those opening chords to There Is A Light are very similar to There She Goes Again. He also talked a lot about T.Rex specifically Metal Guru.

I'm from the time this band came out, but I didn't get to see them together. I only saw them in the 2000s separately, Morrissey in Rio de Janeiro in 2009 and Marr in São Paulo, I made a point of going to São Paulo just to see this guitar genius and I don't regret it. I have on my channel the 4 Smiths songs he played live that day in 2015.

Such a perfect combination of talented individuals. As for the voice and lyricism, no one could’ve done it better than Morrissey. The guitar compositions are legendary due to Marr’s unique combination of diverse influences. Rourke’s bass lines complement Marr’s lines so well and add the cherry on top while Joyce’s impeccable timing and well-timed fills bring it all together like a delicious vegan sandwich.
