I made this recently, and it was fantastic, and delicious. Thanks for posting. Someone recently posted a video about food in the former East Germany, and this was on this list; that’s how I learned about it.

Mein Oma war aus Berlin. Dies war einer ihrer Favoriten und die einzige Möglichkeit, Leber zu essen. :) Ich danke Ihnen für das Teilen.

@@AllTastesGermanforgive me my English; did your Oma use sour cream ever? I had a list of my mum';s recipes and the last time I was in Berlin at the now defunct Adlon honestly I can't remember. My late husband loved this recipe. Please feel free to reply in German I'm very rusty but understand. ❤❤

My mum was from Berlin and i know this recipe can anyone tell me if anyone used a dollop of sour cream or creme fraiche? the liver was paper thin and the veggies were the time consuming part well worth it; Tx.

Thanks for the video! This dish came from DDR firstly or from West Germany also? It was remind me almost the same as my mom cooked early at my USSR childhood. I was born in mid of 80`s in Soviet Russia in Moscow Region. At this time it was problematically to find a beef at stores but liver was available without any problems. Because of it a lot of dishes which need to contain meat was replaced by subproducts, liver was the most common. And of course as side dish was almost always a mashed potato. =)

Interesting! Thank you for sharing your interesting story. I think the dish was and still is popular in the the west and east part of Berlin and beyond.

Thank you so much for the nice comment and watching. I love liver too :) I will upload in a couple of weeks another liver recipe which originates from the Baden area which neighbors to the Alsace region. Both regions share a lot of recipes.

This German recipe goes way back to the Kaiser times and is way older than the GDR, but I am sure other countries had similar dishes.
