I like to play casual for years, i always try to play casual and play decks that are fun and easy to show how yugioh can be fun, ive managed to make 6 people play yugioh and 4 of them never played card games, also casual decks are like gimmick puppet, ghostrick, or even just a monster type, i swear so many people think branded is casual it sucks.
So I do this thing sometimes. If I need a card or two like tomorrow for hanging out. I'll print out the highest resolution picture of a card I can find, shrink it down to a card size and cut it out. Sleeve it with a real card so it still feels like the real thing. I've even photo shopped effects before so it matches proper errata. It's the most broke-boy jank thing I do for this game, but sometimes you just need a quick copy of something for a casual session.
Try some duel sims as you gat to play any deck you want for free and if you don't like the deck you can always change it I recommend EDOpro but any works
I have no idea how Paul convinced me to do this video... Anyway let me know if you want to see anymore of this style of content. We can get the rest of the guys involved too!
Exactly what I'm doing. This way my friends won't have to stress about buying their own decks (or only buy if they really want to own some themselves). Don't want to pressure anyone. Structure decks are affordable anyway and it might be a good idea to buy boosters for variety (everyone is allowed to switch like 10-15 cards with other cards, while I find some way to get the original decks together after play).
I’m a casual player and I don’t like MD cuz more often than not you go against a competitive player who uses too many toxic combos and the long dreadful wait for your turn is just not worth it for me. Duel Links and Legacy of the Duelist: Link of Evolution are way better games imo
Well, just like what he said in the video, kinda find someone who plays who doesn't sweaty and you are good to go. For deck building, I think even in the yugioh console I won't be able to craft those card instantly lol. Let alone MD. Yugioh community somehow made simulator if you want something like that, really. Something like edoPro
The points explained in this video may be used to any hobby and I really appreaciate the passion put in making this. Thanks, may seems a little but it means a lot!
I really enjoyed this video, i think it encapsulates why i also enjoyed rare hunters and the current slifer slackers series so much. Your simply playing with what you've got and its interesting to see what strats you create. Me and my twin bro play casually with customized rules. I usually play elemental heroes and he usually goes for cyber dragon but has been branching out to crysal beasts and ancient gears. He also bought me a harpie structure deck for my birthday so i can make a harpie style deck now. Casual is truly so much fun with the right people.
Playing with the cards you like is so important. It's the main reason I run spellcaster or Dark Magician decks. Like yeah, I'm never gonna get to Diamond rank in Master Duel with it, but I love those kinds of cards and they play at a more low/mid-tier level that I just enjoy playing. Combos are shorter, I can have some fun/powerful cards without it feeling too overpowered, it's just fun! I really should try some older formats too. Watching Rare Hunters & Slifer Slackers makes me so nostalgic for how I played the game with friends back in the day.
I know what you mean. I have a Winged Dragon of Ra deck on Master Duel. It's gotten me to gold ranking. Marik was my favorite villian from the original series. Ra being my favorite god as well. Does Master duel have the red dark magician?
I do the same with dragons decks love them, or simply I play my first deck I ever built was made out of only dark attributes monster card I only liked, for example my ace monster in that deck used to be Gorz emissary of darkness with Jinzo & invader of darkness. Those were my 3 aces card
I'm wanting to casually get back into Yu-Gi-Oh. I loved the Deck Master, Duelist Kingdom and Battle City formats. I appreciate the other formats/summonings done from GX onwards (turbo, speed; pendulum, xyz, synchro) but I've got a soft spot for Duel Monsters and GX
Shoutout to the few casuals (like myself) who enjoy a little Legacy of the Duelist. That game alone as made me aware of many different cards that I either ended up pulling IRL at a later date and being happy about it (like blue eyes twin burst), or ended up buying singles of (like malefics, red eyes darkness metal dragon, some relinquished archetype cards) that look real neat. Probs not the best game to play against real people, but I don't have to take the duels very seriously and I can go against the decks the anime characters use.
Thank you team aps, for trying to bring light to the darkness within the yugioh community. Us long time players love the game and idea of newcomers but don't know how to let lesser skilled or new players enjoy it. This video is perfect and I hope people who have seen yugioh propaganda videos from other creators see this video and click it. Amazing content as always!
I've built a yugioh cube out of an old collection two months ago. It includes everything for everyone such as Dragon Rulers, Lightsworn, Chaos, Equipment-beatdown and Synchros/XYZs. Also you play with 3-6 people at the same time, 1v1v1v1(...) This experience completely changed Yugioh and its casual fun for me! I'd highly recommend it! In total I've played with 11 people so far - most of those were tryhards from my locals. And they all loved it! Just Summoning a huge boss monster and deciding if you want to attack the guy with a backrow - they could have Mirror Force/Sakuretsu Armor.
I only play with old Structure Decks I like but sometimes I mix in 1-5 different/new cards to see how it changes and I love it. Every card that is in the structure deck is 100 % allowed, we never cared about banlists.
Casual is how i feel YuGiOh was intended to be played, just a group of friends playing with what they've got. My most fond memories of YuGiOh was when i first started getting back into it a few years ago with an old Rise of the Sea Emperor structure deck i had since 2013. Teaching my friends at work how to play with Atlanteans vs. Blue-Eyes (which had just released the structure deck at the time). MAN those days were fun, back before we knew what tf Link monsters worked or how quick-play spells should be used. Almost all of my decks are mid-powered, stuff like Gaia, Gate Guardians, Dinosaurs, Cyber Dragons, things that aren't meta but still have enough power to pull off some cool stuff. I even have two decks of generic Dragons and Warriors that i like to use to teach people how to play. I just wished i had a big group to play with these days.
The problem is when your fun casual decks ends up becoming tier 1 by coincidence. It happened to me with Madolche, suddenly everyone hated me for playing "meta".
This is a super valuable video you guys made. Shout out to Alec for representing the real core of this game in my eyes. I've never wanted to play meta really, I'd pick up a meta relevant engine and then quickly pawn it off to a more competitive friend bc I just straight up don't have the same amount of fun as say my favorite archetype Ancient Gears. With friends playing the same power level, you get more interesting interaction and memorable duels all around. Love you guys for doing this for the community at this time and era.
i think my big piece of advice for playing casually at locals or in those more competitive environments is to set goals and personal "win conditions". this can be like disrupting plays or sneaking in your own big plays against the top decks, it can be resolving a specific card that you really like (for me its time wizard of tomorrow), or even just surviving a certain number of turns. you won't necessarily win the round, but you will have accomplished something, and had fun. and in my experience, everyone around also has fun seeing the "little guy" get one over on the "big menace" meta deck. play towards fun and create memories. everyone will remember something like roulette spider turning accesscode back around on your opponent, and when the whole shop gets to have a laugh about "what just happened", everyone wins
I can relate to #3 extremely hard. After just getting back into (advanced) Yugioh after a very long time, I felt myself either not enjoying the current meta decks aesthetically or their playstyle. After months of trying to find a "meta" deck I could remotely find fun, I just dropped and almost quit trying to get back. Until, at one point, I just decided to just try out one of my favorite decks for fun, and realized it's not actually that bad right now. It not only saved me a lot of time, but it saved me a lot of money and I'm enjoying the games I do play a lot more!
This video is awesome. With all the talk of how difficult it is for Yugioh to be accessible to new players a video that highlights the importance of having fun without being participating in the yugioh meta is perfect for new player’s interested in yugioh. Love your content APS!
Really nice to have a bit of positive content for once... Things have been so negative as of late. If "We all hate this game!" then why do we shame people for playing it in their own way they find fun..? My locals started $15 & $25 tourneys. Theyve been incredible. We have a few cards we have banned (floodgates mostly), but I've been loving Plunder Patroll. Its basically become a way to play our pet decks pure and without meta staples/hand traps/floodgates etc. Very slow paced and back-and-forth.
I haven't played since yugioh first came out basically battle city in the original cartoons, so much has changed and I feel like I just cant stomach trying the new blue, black, white and pendulum cards, I saw a video of a guy getting the first turn and draws every card from his deck and winning with some magic card that did 16k damage... his turn also took over 5 minutes, It definitely put me off the new cards. I brought 3 boxes of the speed duels decks to make normal size decks and am loving it so far and the nostalgia is flying back to me I'm definitely staying in my own little happy bubble :)
Playing a deck you enjoy is definitely the one I always go by. Meta be darned I'll always have a soft spot for Mekk Knight/Crusadia where my floodgates are hoping the enemy forgets Indigo Eclipse can swap rows.
These are the kind of videos why I love Team APS so much. Most other YugiTubers out there, while they do have some fun contents too, are still META and competitive tier centric in terms of their attitude and perspective (especially with complaining about Maxx-C like it’s the worst card to be ever made out there. As Paul has mentioned in one of the previous videos, Maxx-C is not the most broken card, it is just gets more broken as the deck you’re playing it in gets more stronger/broken) Also, Point #5 is something I learned to practice even in Master Duel. These days, I don’t even bother with opening selection packs anymore. I only go with structure decks and secret packs, and just live with the lower-powered cards by playing in the lower ranks
Great video. I've always enjoyed the casual side to yugioh. I have a lot of fun playing decks I grew up playing such as blue eyes and heroes then the modern decks of today
I recently started using the format they use in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens anime show. I played Yugioh since GX and 5D's, and I also tasted the meta and some tournaments that burned me out of this game for several years. But since I use this fast-format of "draw until 5 cards each turn", "play with 3 zones per monsters and 3 magic/traps" and "you are no longer limited on 1 normal summon per turn" then I started get fun again, and I LOVE IT. I also tried some homebrew rules that I felt I needed, like "once per duel you can discard all cards you want from your hand and draw the same number" or "the duels can't last longer than 5-6 turns". Also "set cards go to GY in your 2nd next Standby Phase". This can sound weirs, but I promise it just works. Works better on classic decks without Links and Pendulum specially, but it can be fixed if you make a homebrew for that. Hope this can inspire someone to have fun again 💛
This is some good advice. I've pretty much been out of the game for a year now, and have been on the fence about returning. The unfortunate thing is that at the game shop I play at, our Thursday "casual day" has turned into a tournament day. Granted, it's alternate format, but I have zero desire to play in any sort of tournament setting because I know exactly how it's going to go
Me and my friends have always played like this! They are the ones who introduced me to the game in the first place (and did a terrible job at teaching me how to play or build decks lmao). One small issue I've identified in this "casual format" is that sometimes, due to the difference in the power levels of the decks, some duels aren't as interesting, because maybe some decks haven't recieved any support in ages. But it's still pretty fun, especially if you play some low power staples that help your deck (cosmic cyclone to out Zombie World for example)
This is a great video! Definitely enjoyed it. I find a majority of Yugioh content across the platform is always competitive focused and it's always nice to have more content for the casual side of Yugioh because it's a lot of fun and videos like this will help out a lot of people who are looking for that kind of Yugioh. Finding a group of people who want to play at that lower power levels is huge for having a true experience. I primarily spend all my time playing Yugioh with my duel group and we all love casual decks and play. We follow a lot of the same principles you guys do when playing against each other on the day to day.
God, I feel this so much. For the longest time ever it feels like, I've been putting off on starting up Master Duel. But then a friend I played with and I decided to play card games the following weekend (we were playing something else with some others), and we settled on Master Duel. I finally had a reason to actually boot it up and learn some basics and get a few decks to use when I would play with my friend. Then came the day and time we agreed on for playing and... We had a blast! We were both beginners so neither of us had anything crazy, nor did we have a grasp of everything. We basically decided we would play together somewhat regularly going forward~ We're both now working on decks to take each other on with next time we play. One deck I'm working on is Dinomorphia as the aesthetic and to some extent the playstyle drew me in (maybe because I play Bloodcraft in Shadowverse, which revolves around damaging yourself for payoffs), while my friend is working on a deck of magicians. Oh, and I'm optimising a Ninja deck because that's what I used for most of the duels we had on our first session (not to mention he found Rust Mist a pain because he was using a deck that really likes special summoning during one duel XD And he went "That's so disgusting" when I shared with him that multiples of it on board stack as that was something we were both wondering about while playing)
Thank you for this video. I'm a yu-gi-oh player who'se been playing the game casually for a long time and I tried a shop tournament that was not fun at all and brought the worst in me. Your video gave me hope in a game that's dear to me. Great work.
I never really played, only a few times 20 years ago with the first starter decks. With this 25th anniversary I'd like to play some again, but just like you guys did in the Rare Hunters series. (only old cards)
I think you hit the nail on the head. That first tip is the most important. I only play Yu-Gi-Oh with some other friends of mine and we just play our favorite decks with whatever modern staples we can get our hands on. It's helped me enjoy playing the game when I'm in the mood for it. I also really enjoy Pokemon so it's fun to play the decks with monsters that look like Pokemon lol.
This video is fantastic, and part of why I liked Magic for so long. My old yugioh play group liked to play the meta decks, and over time it was getting difficult to enjoy the game because the decks I liked (Burning Abyss, Lightsworn, etc) got power crept and couldn't keep up over the years. I really enjoy the formats where people can play what they like without being questioned "why are you playing that deck when X is better?". I'm starting to get into Edison format, and at least right now I can see myself playing it a lot lol.
You touched on a great point, I feel like a lot of players aren’t enjoying the game because they’re playing decks they don’t particularly enjoy. Like yes play them to win tournaments and open packs but everyone has a favorite play style / deck and it’s always rarely viable / competent enough to play making yugioh tournaments kinda stale and lacking a lot of enjoyment in the matchups. Imo that’s what makes broad spec metas so good
ive been using the same archetype for about 8 years now...somehow it still gets support every couple years so i always get excited to try out the new cards. i picked up a few structure decks to mess around with friends as well. can be a decent way to get them started
An underrated advice I was never told when I first started was watch test hand videos and live duels of your favorite decks! My love for Heroes and Branded was some laughable end boards with like a absolute zero and sunrise and pass with what I thought was the best hand when now I can create even larger boards, scope out what HERO was better ATM and could land on a better end board and it made playing Heroes that much better
Not too mention through said videos I learned how in the same combos I can set myself up with follow up so if I lost the board I didn't waste an entire hand for nothing
Great video. My favorite way to play casual is to get depreciated decks that I could never afford when they were top tier, and have gotten new support since then. Inzektors are a great example.
i’d like to counter argue one thing that wasn’t really part of the video, but was touched on: even if your goal is to win and top a YCS, playing decks you don’t like still won’t get you far. it adds more stress, removes the fun, and makes practicing the deck a chore instead of something you WANT to do.
I love this I’m new to Yu-Gi-Oh and it’s been really overwhelming trying to learn the advanced meta-decks so I usually just play older structure decks and it’s so fun in my opinion
First off, great video. Would love to see more content like this in the future. Secondly, a few locals have been using the price point formats, which are amazing. Basically, you are not allowed to run a deck that would cost over a certain amount to buy singles for. So, like if the price is 20$, your entire deck (Main, extra, side) cannot be over 20$ total from TCGplayer. It and Edison format are formats I have found the best of luck dragging new players into. Also, shout out to Alec for being another zombie player.
I enjoyed trying to play competitively for a while, but ever since I moved away from my locals, started my masters degree, I thought playing yugioh with anyone was out of reach. But master duel has been really cool. I still get frustrated and struggle in ranked, but the casual mode can be a fun place to test out decks and have fun, where I don’t have to physically by cards. Honestly, I’m more of a collector now, but I like to play with causal/mid range builds of things like Dark Magician, HEROes, Poker Knights, Silent Magician/Swordsman, etc. and have a blast when I meet up with old friends and we play with these types of decks.
My friends and I have a house banlist and play with decks of all power levels. yugioh has some crazy unseen variety that gets really overshadowed by the meta. I enjoy both styles of play but would love to see more casual styles of play
Great video, Alec. Daily Duel Links player who runs only themed decks, no meta. For me, that's fun whereas modern meta decks just aren't. Appreciate Team APS!
4:32 I totally agree, I first decided to play raidraptors not because it became sub-meta or new support made it broken (this didn’t happen btw) but I decided to play raidraptors because I like my deck where I am able to get out my birbs and because nobody reads my cards because they assume they will be able to beat them when someone attacks into something like revolution falcon I get to surprise them that their monster just got destroyed even though it had more attack points And I originally saw it in the anime and was like “you know it seems cool to not have very strong monsters in your main deck but you can use them to xyz summon your weak birds and then you can activate that rank up magic spell card and suddenly that weak xyz monster is a force to be reckoned with
if you’re burnt out on regular ygo, PLEASE try rush duels. They’re digital only in the west (unless you and your group of friends know Japanese and are willing to import cards) but they’re so so fun. I personally recommend ygo omega for rush duel because they have basically every rush duel card in English.
I always play what i like and enjoy. Gladiator beasts, black luster rituals, monarchs, knights of face, etc. None of them are truly competitive (maybe monarchs if you stretch it a bit) but they are very much fun.
I love to play my Performapal/Odd-Eyes hybrid deck, with Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon as my ace monster. Even though I’m just playing with my brother my experience is just nothing but good memories
Me personally, I keep up with all the news of Yu-Gi-Oh, like new cards, rules, staples and things of that nature. But I can't afford to buy that much stuff to keep in competitive territory. What I love to do is get me and my cousin together and have a tournament with the decks I have built (40). When each duel is over we discussed the pros and cons of each deck and give/take suggestions on how to make each deck better. We've been doing this casually for 10 years now and it's just so much fun, in my opinion, to sit down and discuss how a deck can get better
Just getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh after like 20 years on Master Duel, trying to get my lil bro into it. Like he said in the video, just play cards you like and have fun. I play blue-eyes rn because it's pretty straightforward. Working on building a hybrid Obelisk, red-eyes, summoned skull deck atm
Love playing Monarchs (tournament or casual) Lair of Darkness, Raid Raptor, Cyber Dragon/Cyber Dark, even up to date Blue Eyes and Dark Magician. I made up to date character decks of Yugi and Kaiba so me and the GF can play together and she can learn. She loves it and rocks spellcasters 🙌
I play casually with my friends, I'm the only one using hand traps, but it's even true that most of them have much better built decks that can recover easily such as D/D/D while I'm with the 3x crystal beasts structure (I could win more easily with conclave control but I don't like the play style of it, I built my rogue), so it's oddly more balanced. We still have lots of fun together and we bring cards everywhere we go when together, usually to the countless nights at the pub where one of us works. Thank you for the video, it made me feel like sharing. Guys don't ever feel wrong or stupid for playing in public with friends, you're probably having the best time and if people have to judge they probably are not.
I gotta say the biggest tip I can offer is be patient to and get ready to be confused! 😂 Like the English language sometimes some things mean the same thing, or have their own interpretation when it comes to the spoken and unspoken rules and regulations of the game, and when it comes to the thousands of types of decks their are out there get ready to be patient and learn. Specially at some place like locals the better you know your opponents deck the more comfortable you’d feel playing this format 🔥 great video though guys?
Master Duel got me back to buying an actual casual(?) deck, namely a Traptrix deck(3 structure decks) even though I don't have any nearby place to play for just in case of random encounters or something unexpected. Trickstar and Labrynth are next on the list.
One big thing I like to do when playing Yu Gi Oh, which was already mentioned. Is I like to play the cards that I find really nice to look at, and usually fundamentally are pretty "fair" in there grouping. Usually mid-tier to low tier decks, main reason they are so is mostly because of how they don't really break the game state into the modern "well guess you didn't draw the out" state. I only ever run handtraps in a situation where I know that the opponent will run it as well...with my friends? I just slot it out my deck since no one plays them unless it's for a competitive duel. Fortunately Yu Gi Oh is a card game where you can play with all the cards and it allows for some fun and interesting interactions.
As a returning player to the game (yeah, I know I’m a yugiboomer) this content is my favorite. And 100% correct on losing with a deck you enjoy being just fine. I don’t care if I lose with my umi deck, I’m just having fun playing umi in 2024
love your videos litrally havent played in decades but still enjoy the lore and game and you guys keep me right in the loop thx team aps...

I really loved this content, everybody is free to play the way they like the most so I've seen in this channel how funny it is to gather all kind of cards, make your own rules of how strong a deck can be. I'd love to see more videos about some challenges of even made up rules you guys think about and try them with friends, at the end the point of playing is to have fun!
A sort of sub tip I would add, have multiple ready decks, if you have the cards for it, structure decks are pretty great for this. I have friends who like the game but get kind of bored using or going against the same deck over and over, so having extra decks you can switch to or loan out for a duel or two (just be sure to get it back, only loan to people who you KNOW will return it) gives that little extra variety. Also if you're making the decks, you can keep them relatively balanced to make sure it's not just a one-sided bore when they go head to head.
I so agree, Im a casual duelist I mostly play Rogue and under, and its really great that we have these alternitive formats for Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, I enjoy Master Duel alot cuz its hard to find people around my area who wants to play me casually.
As someone who is barely coming back into this game, from the 90s. I find this channel, and these videos very interesting/fun to watch. Here in Vegas idk where to look for locals. Would like to try to duel, I'm not a top tier duelist. I consider myself a 3rd rate duelist with a 4th rate deck. Anyways, this channel is great. Thank you.
I like Duel Links unlocking characters, opening packs, and building decks like Dark Magician, Red Eyes Exodia, Heroes, Cyber Dragons, Cyber Angels, and plenty more decks. I still don’t play pvp much , my confidence level isn’t high enough yet but I still have fun with loaner deck duels.
Great video. Myself started to playing with my son who is more anime fan then competitive so i start recollecting cards to build anime type decks and play with him and it is more fun and less frustrating for both of us.
This is good advice. Enjoying the game really is made or broken by who & what you're playing with, "more fun with friends" and "communication is important" very much apply, and playing "The Strongest Deck™" won't necessarily net strong results if you don't get along with it. Part of that is getting used to the deck and it's lines, but it's harder to spot new lines of play on the spot when you're working with something that doesn't click for you, so it's easier to play better using cards you like and have some amount of interest/ enthusiasm towards (even though "playing better" doesn't necessarily mean "performing better depending on the power disparity). It's nice how calm and relaxed the tone was in this video. It wasn't particularly fast or slow paced and it wasn't that high energy, just a chill "here's some advice" which fits the subject and feels very approachable.
I very much appreciate and enjoy your videos Team APS. Yes I’m just a casual player. I don’t like playing with the new metta decks. I played it back in 2002 to 2007. And I very much enjoyed that format. I have enjoyed some of the new support cards. But I enjoy playing anime style decks of my favorite characters from the anime. It’s been fun the last few months getting together with all my old friends and us pulling out the old duel cards. I hope to see you guys in Austin Texas. When the Yu-Gi-Oh regional qualifiers in town. I’ll just be going as a spectator. I hope it’s OK for me to come up to you guys say hello and maybe get a picture.
On the topic of video games, maybe consider Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution! The card pool is a few years out of date, but you've got access to more than 10000 cards, the "main story" has you reliving major duels from the first 6 anime series (which you can also play using your own decks), and the challenge mode has you going up against some pretty powerful decks at times!
Advice 2 is the best. I love witchcrafter since I enjoy that archetype a lot. I more or less got every single spellcaster support and have liken 4 different witchcrafter decks but I always will like " Normalsummon Witchcrafter Schmietta".
1= Don't worry about hunting down the most expensive cards in each set 2= Don't worry about getting every set that comes out just get the sets that you thing that sounds good or that you like just because of a particular card or two or three 3= You can but it is not necessary to pay attention to the Banned and Limited List 4= Just create whatever the best Deck that you can of that archetype as you can don't worry about Net Decking even for Budget Builds.
It’s been an issue with the yugioh not having newer players come in....but thanks for not being toxic.....I find it rare to find positive people in this card game. Good work
As a casual player, I couldn't agree more with Alec! I have this one friend who still has his old Ancient Gear deck from when we went to high school. Whenever we meet I bring along my Blue-Eyes deck from back then and we a play a game or two. 👌
Here is a tip I use to play casual yugioh. Play decks around the same power level as you with your friends. The best way I have found to do this, is to play any archetype pure and adjust depending on how good or bad it did. I use basic staples to make my toon deck the same power level as my pure ice barrier deck. By slotting in powerful cards in weak decks while leaving them out in the stronger ones make it to wear outdated archetypes can still play reasonably in casual. It’s also super fun trying to make decks that play against each other well. Another thing is kinda like what Alec said in the beginning with no hand traps. Unless archetype specific cards have cards that preform interruption. Then you should not slot in interruption in casual decks. This way each players turn is letting each deck do there combo and seeing if they can overcome as oppose to stopping the other player
My friends and I like to do Archetype duels. We have a wheel with many of the different Yu-Gi-Oh! archetypes on them (Cyber dragons, deskbots, etc.) We then spin it and whatever it lands on, we have to quickly build a deck with that archetype. Has helped expose us to new cards and make decks that we never would have made otherwise.
As a fellow budget player best thing I have found are billy decks they don't do anything most of the time but they make my goblin brain happy when they do manage to pull a win
I really enjoy Speed Duels. The lnly downside, some cards are only available by completing certain in-game events. I'm very busy and managed to complete some, but no worries because the events do eventually come back, just couple of months later.
Good video. I enjoy playing custom GOAT format with my sibling. Only cards released 2006 and earlier, you can only play 1 copy of any card, some banned cards like Change of Heart that are OP etc. Having no duplicates makes it more fun to flesh out decks with other non-optimal options.
i do literally ALL of these.XD only tip i can really think to add is try to get into the anime/manga as well: the game started as a random card game in the manga but gained so much lore as that changed and a fun way to interact with the game is through the manga/anime such as believing in the heart of the cards or jokingly saying you send the other person to the shadow realm. sure, maybe don't take dueling tips from the it but honestly, just associating the game with the series makes it so much more fun because then you kind of feel like you're a part of it just by playing (not to mention the fun of playing character decks).
Best way to play is with house rules. My friends and I mix the generations and keep the power level with all of our decks in check so every duel is as close to a 50/50 as possible
I started two years ago and still use the same archetype, blue-eyes. I know it’s not that good but I don’t care if I win with it or lose, it’s just fun to play
my friends have been playing a "pure archetype" format where decks can only use cards from archetype or as close to thematically as possible. example is drytron with no fairies, mu beta fafnir is the only card in extradeck. Or melffy that includes alpha master of beasts (came out in same set). the only issue so far are towers decks like igniter. also branded/albaz is probably too strong (we collectively banned it)
personally, I plan on going with relatively strict archetype restrictions (as in staying within theme/archetype) as well as a 1 of rule for staples, the idea being you maintain a mostly pure deck (or at least on theme) with a little staple support (because Konami hates making archetypes competitive without making it close to 1k) so that there is some back and forth between the decks and turns that don't last 2 hours. Also home made errata's for generic boss monsters if they are in theme, Example being Borreload Savage Dragon requiring "1 tuner + 1 or more Rokket monster" and it's only able to equip "borrel" link monsters (quadborrel counts).
Well I am 100% agree with this video, the most complicated step is find people that likes to play like you. I really enjoy build decks, and we tests a lot of stranges decks and we have our own play style with 3 players FFA, no sideck, just try to kill everyone and survive to the last.
I totally agree with these tips. Although im somewhat reluctant to play against other players, i do love to play. My favorite deck is the adamancipator deck. It feels fun and fluid for me to use! No deck is perfect, and it is frustrating to be completely stalled and unable to play when someone uses the "solitaire" combo and just beats you outright. I still love yugioh regardless. I hope the next casual yugioh video game will have more updated card pools.
Great video, i really love playing blackwings even though there casual. There was such a demand for casual play my local shop does a competitive tournament and a casual tournament with a way stricter custom banlist. Would highly recommend seeing if your local shop would do something similar.
I never thought I needed to watch a video like this. Thank you so much for those 5 points! I'm really looking forward for my Magia order (OCG secret rare) to come in soon and use it in my Kaiba Blue-Eyes deck just because it's a fun concept 😆

*What's your best advice for enjoying Yu-Gi-Oh casually? I think one thing we left out here is grabbing a friend and playing a Progression Series style competition, which you can actually do now that they rereleased some of the classic packs!* 🔥 Speaking of progression series... ruclips.net/video/dCfBcC5SYYk/видео.html
Don't be pressured into playing decks you don't like
I like to play casual for years, i always try to play casual and play decks that are fun and easy to show how yugioh can be fun, ive managed to make 6 people play yugioh and 4 of them never played card games, also casual decks are like gimmick puppet, ghostrick, or even just a monster type, i swear so many people think branded is casual it sucks.
I prefer to play face to face, I recently lost my dueling buddy.
I think this would be great if only to solidify that players don't have to be competitive to play, they can just have fun and that's fine.
oh like a Team APS responds to commentor's questions video?
As a fellow casual player I really enjoy this video. So I would like to see more stuff like this
You did a great job bro. Someone has to speak for us non meta players.
I think this video is great. It's funny how well it applies to all card games.
My advice: If you make a deck, make a second one that is similar in strength and if a friend comes over you have a deck ready for both of you
Exactly what I'm doing.
That's what I've been doing my whole life. Good ass advice! I also do make sure to apply if I want them to play in an older format as well
Dark World and Saga of Blue Eyes pair well, with a few add ins.
My friend and I play 16k LP games and have so much fun.
underrated comment
As a returning player to the game I’d love more content like this, maybe even going in depth on deck types/lists.
Hey I'm also a returning player and wanted to know if you've ever heard of the progression series?
@@Kazmi1217 no I haven’t
It's great to see you guys having FUN! That's a downside of MD, even the casual lobbies are sweaty, makes deck building a PAIN sometimes haha.
I’m a casual player and I don’t like MD cuz more often than not you go against a competitive player who uses too many toxic combos and the long dreadful wait for your turn is just not worth it for me. Duel Links and Legacy of the Duelist: Link of Evolution are way better games imo
Sure why not
Here in my shadow realm having is not dealing with ban list 😂😅
u can always play another ygo simulator where cards are free to build whatever u want and it has tag duels been enjoying so far
I find the festivals to be more og and slow with the occasional sweaty, it’s fun
I like to use waifu/female only decks
I know what you mean. I have a Winged Dragon of Ra deck on Master Duel. It's gotten me to gold ranking. Marik was my favorite villian from the original series. Ra being my favorite god as well. Does Master duel have the red dark magician?
with my experience, Dark Magician can actually get you to Diamond
If you enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh enjoy it to the best of your abilities... Love it. Putting it simply it's not always about winning. It's about having fun.
Also you play with 3-6 people at the same time, 1v1v1v1(...)
This experience completely changed Yugioh and its casual fun for me!
Based
Casual is how i feel YuGiOh was intended to be played, just a group of friends playing with what they've got.
Alec summed it up perfectly for Speed Duels. Finding your niche is always worth it. Really enjoyed this style of video. 👍
completely agree with tips number 2 , i personally only play decks that caught my interest, i don't care if it's meta or not
This is a super valuable video you guys made.
As a casual player, this is a really refreshing video 👍🔥
i think my big piece of advice for playing casually at locals or in those more competitive environments is to set goals and personal "win conditions". this can be like disrupting plays or sneaking in your own big plays against the top decks, it can be resolving a specific card that you really like (for me its time wizard of tomorrow), or even just surviving a certain number of turns.
you won't necessarily win the round, but you will have accomplished something, and had fun. and in my experience, everyone around also has fun seeing the "little guy" get one over on the "big menace" meta deck. play towards fun and create memories. everyone will remember something like roulette spider turning accesscode back around on your opponent, and when the whole shop gets to have a laugh about "what just happened", everyone wins
As Paul has mentioned in one of the previous videos, Maxx-C is not the most broken card, it is just gets more broken as the deck you’re playing it in gets more stronger/broken)
Also, Point #5 is something I learned to practice even in Master Duel.
Granted, it's alternate format, but I have zero desire to play in any sort of tournament setting because I know exactly how it's going to go
I'm the definition of casual, and even tho I enjoy when you guys explain the meta, your fun fake or casual games resonate best with me.
I love this I’m new to Yu-Gi-Oh and it’s been really overwhelming trying to learn the advanced meta-decks so I usually just play older structure decks and it’s so fun in my opinion
i can show u another place to play all decks, u have discord?. we will start by adding friends first
First off, great video.
Thank you guys loving the new content!
4:32 I totally agree, I first decided to play raidraptors not because it became sub-meta or new support made it broken (this didn’t happen btw) but I decided to play raidraptors because I like my deck where I am able to get out my birbs and because nobody reads my cards because they assume they will be able to beat them when someone attacks into something like revolution falcon I get to surprise them that their monster just got destroyed even though it had more attack points
And I originally saw it in the anime and was like “you know it seems cool to not have very strong monsters in your main deck but you can use them to xyz summon your weak birds and then you can activate that rank up magic spell card and suddenly that weak xyz monster is a force to be reckoned with
if you’re burnt out on regular ygo, PLEASE try rush duels. They’re digital only in the west (unless you and your group of friends know Japanese and are willing to import cards) but they’re so so fun. I personally recommend ygo omega for rush duel because they have basically every rush duel card in English.
Adding to this- Rush duels have been announced for Duel Links coming in late September. So you'll be able to play them there too
@@rangerhewkioh yeah I completely forgot!
That sounds like a great time!
This is such a good video. I'm an old school duelist for sure and I worry about dueling people, not just at my skill level, but in my era. lol.
Master Duel got me back to buying an actual casual(?) deck, namely a Traptrix deck(3 structure decks) even though I don't have any nearby place to play for just in case of random encounters or something unexpected. Trickstar and Labrynth are next on the list.
Instead of people posting tierlists, these are the type of videos Yu-Gi-Oh needs.
This makes me feel better about not being a try hard and stuff. Amazing video !!
I agree 100% with Allec. There are so many ways to enjoy the game and not just playing but also collecting cards that you like. 👍
I absolutely agree, the most important thing is to have fun. Loved this video, gonna show it to some friends!
Thank you.
Thanks and glad we could help! I'm not too familiar with the Vegas area, but I'm sure there are plenty of places there to play.
Indeed thank you, and keep up the good work.
Im a big fan of speed duels. The card pool and variety makes it fun the power creep hasnt gotten to crazy
So glad youmentioned Cube in this video. Draft is such a great way to enjoy TCGs and it's such a shame that Yugioh doesn't support it out of the box.
We need more videos like these. Love this. Amazing guys.
DON'T SLOW DOWN GET BETTER
Advice 2 is the best. I love witchcrafter since I enjoy that archetype a lot. I more or less got every single spellcaster support and have liken 4 different witchcrafter decks but I always will like " Normalsummon Witchcrafter Schmietta".
witchcrafter does nothing but hide behind one monster like a typical yugiboomer coward would for 30+ turns
@@EBlade3529have ya touched grass recently
1= Don't worry about hunting down the most expensive cards in each set
2= Don't worry about getting every set that comes out just get the sets that you thing that sounds good or that you like just because of a particular card or two or three
3= You can but it is not necessary to pay attention to the Banned and Limited List
4= Just create whatever the best Deck that you can of that archetype as you can don't worry about Net Decking even for Budget Builds.
You have spoken from the bottom of my heart.
Blessings to you from Hungary!
Having no duplicates makes it more fun to flesh out decks with other non-optimal options.
i do literally ALL of these.XD
only tip i can really think to add is try to get into the anime/manga as well: the game started as a random card game in the manga but gained so much lore as that changed and a fun way to interact with the game is through the manga/anime such as believing in the heart of the cards or jokingly saying you send the other person to the shadow realm. sure, maybe don't take dueling tips from the it but honestly, just associating the game with the series makes it so much more fun because then you kind of feel like you're a part of it just by playing (not to mention the fun of playing character decks).
Best way to play is with house rules. My friends and I mix the generations and keep the power level with all of our decks in check so every duel is as close to a 50/50 as possible
Right now I'm not sure if yugioh will be the tcg I'll settle on, but damm, so much good advice here, thanks!
Set Rotation Format is my favorite
You don’t always have to upgrade your favorite deck immediately just because you can is my greatest advice I can say currently
Glad you enjoyed!
I never thought I needed to watch a video like this. Thank you so much for those 5 points!
I'm really looking forward for my Magia order (OCG secret rare) to come in soon and use it in my Kaiba Blue-Eyes deck just because it's a fun concept 😆
