Same everything you mentioned and I'm struggling almost every moisturizer I used was greasy and after when I wear all of my face completely becomes oil sewage
ive tried both. im usually sensitive to fragrance and cant use most moisturizers, but the water gel didn't cause any redness or burning, its honestly the best moisturizer i've used on my oily/dry face. as for the cream-gel, it felt very heavy and my face would produce so much oil. even using a small portion of the product left my face either super dry or super oily. definitely sticking to the water gel.
When using the gel cream, keep your skin a little bit wet, and remember to use lotion after putting on the gel cream. If we use the the gel cream with a dry face, the hyaluronic acid may absorb water that is already in our skin and left our face dry.

That’s when I went fragrance free and I have been VERY pleased and satisfied. Most likely it “may” affect you later in life/age. Same with me Rosa, except in my 50’s. Had rashes, fissures, itching, etc. for over a year. Couldn’t even hug someone without breaking out. Then a dermatologist gave me a patch test and even he was surprised that I was allergic to both the fragrance categories of the test. So fragrance-free for me. I have used both and I 💘 LOVE the water gel! It does seem to work much better for me. Ironically enough, even though the gel cream says it is for extra dry skin, it did NOT seem to moisturize my skin at all...I agree with the doctor above in all regards! Thanks for the video!😊
It's for dry skin because it has more occlusives to seal in hydration. But that also means it can have less humectants. You can try water gel and then gel cream right on top of it!
I have oily skin and neutrogena hydro boost water gel works magic in me. It makes my skin hydrated and at the same time it leaves smooth finishing on my skin, it is like glowing. I don't know how to explain. hahaha, but I like the current look of my face skin when I started to use this neutrogena hydro boost water gel compared to the hyaluronic acid that I used before. Well, each to their own. What works for me may not work for others. So, yeah, this is helpful Doc Sugai. Thanks for the review.
I'm using the gel cream (EU version) for a year now. My skin is oily / acne prone but also had a bad moisture barrier. It helped me alot in combination with Rosehip oil, levander water, holika aloe gel and la roche posay retinol b3 serum aaand Eucerin dry touch face sunscreen. My skin is super sensitive but it loves all of these.
These two are my holy grail moisturizers! Both versions are nice but I agree the water gel just feels slightly better personally for the lasting affect compared to the gel one. But it may also be because the water gel one smells really clean and fresh hehe. Just a matter of personal preference I guess.
@@sams517 I have combination skin. So mostly dry to normal in the periphery and oily T zone. I actually preferred the water gel cuz I felt like the hydration lasted longer. Like when I woke up the next day my skin felt more supple and moisturized still. The gel one got absorbed faster and imo didn't hydrate as well as the water gel. But that's just my experience.
@@rayspace6362 hi! did you use a moisturizer on top of it? just asking because some people told me that i should use a moisturizer on top of it so the hydration would last longer
Thanks for breaking down these 2 products for us, I've been using the Nuetrogea Fragrance Free, but I'm going to try the other one, since you and your wife liked that one.
The “regular” hydro boost feels so nice like you said and it works beautifully under makeup-it’s almost like a primer. They also make a version called “city shield” that has spf. It feels a lot like the non spf -maybe not quite as wonderful feeling but that’s to be expected. Why does spf have to not be something I love applying LOL.
I don't usually have sensitivity to fragrance, but, some products just stink, or the scent to too strong. I prefer fragrance-free just for that reason. I also don't want anything competing with my parfum.
I have contact dermatitis on my hands. It took months to get a diagnosis (Dyshidrotic Eczema) It gets pretty bad with blisters, severe cracks and bleeding on my fingers and Hands. Turns out it’s work related associated with medical gloves at work that I have to wear for 10 hrs a day. I wear glove liners now and it helps a lot but a lot of the medications I use have Dimethicone in them.. those are the barrier creams. I’ve never had a problem with them. I been using the Neutrogena Hydro boost gel since it came out .. my skin is so dry and when I put it on, it’s like Omg… relief! Like diving into a cool pool .. I love it so much. I like the scent and it doesn’t bother my skin but I got the extra dry last time because My skin is extra dry. But either way they never have bothered my skin or my fingers when I put it on. I’m in love with this stuff
After trying nearly every affordable skin care option out there, I've come to prefer Neutrogena products the most. I'm prone to all kinds of ugly side effects from many products out there, but this one works really well for me, so I've been staying in their line of products. Others have made my skin blister badly, or gave me hives. I have a few permanent scars to prove it, so I'm always reticent to try new things. Keeps me humble, I suppose! I'm a very fair skinned older lady, so need all the help I can get!
both of these are great!! i use the water gel all year and then the water emulsion/cream during winters since my skin requires extra hydration during that time.
Hmm another topic to think about could perhaps be the leeching of the silicones and synthetic beeswax into the environment? Silicone is said to not break down so easily, so it's possible they pollute the environment for a long time. I really liked the Water Gel and use it as my daily moisturiser but I've learned a bit more about sustainability and being environmentally friendly, and I'd like to make the switch to a different brand (not to mention Neutrogena is owned by Johnson and Johnson who have a slew of malpractice and unethical behaviour). I still have a halfway full tub though lol. I gotta finish that. I was already thinking of changing moisturisers because the smell is so chemical-ly and strong, but I couldn't find one that would evaporate/not leave a sticky residue. Still on the hunt for a new moisturiser. It's going to be difficult to find a brand that feels as nice as the Water Gel ;-;
The gel cream works perfect for my face. I tried the hydro boost and it left my face all dry and white. I did not finish the 1st one I got. Was glad to get the gel cream and it works awesome 👌 for me. It's the best moisturizer for my face
This is more suitable for Dry Skin. I hav combine skin, i use the Neutrogena Hyaluron boost cleanser, it make my skin soo clean, smooth and soft! 😋🥰😍.. smells soooo good! 😋😋😋
I have been using Hydroboost Gel Cream for the last three months and so far, so good. It makes my skin looks fresh. I have acne prone skin and the Gel Cream does not sting my skin. I use it under a moisturiser and I also put a tiny amount near my eye area.
@@dkhalid5598 Fortunately, the Fragrance Free Gel Cream did not break me out even though I have very sensitive and oily skin. It is also labelled for 'sensitive skin'. It has changed the texture of my skin and my skin looks more radiant and plumper. Maybe it is better to do a patch test before to see if your skin reacts well to the gel cream. I know some people use it only for targeted areas where it needs hydration like for fine lines around the mouth or forehead. It is much better if you use it under a moisturiser as hyaluronic acid attracts humidity to be able to bind it to your skin. If you layer a moisturiser on top of it, it will attract humidity from your moisturiser to seal it to your skin. It will also prevent your skin from drying out further in winter times thus causing skin problems like acne. If you have acne prone skin, do not use the Water Gel as it contains fragrance.

Excellent video Dr. Sugai! I don't have anything against fragrance. It's really too bad that it has been demonized all over youtube and other social media platforms. I like the neutrogena gel-cream simply because my skin is super dry but I would definitely would like to try the booster water and mix it with my antioxidants serums. Keep these videos coming. I hope you all had a terrific holiday weekend.
Your videos are so helpful & informative.👑 Love when a Dr reviews products, who possess the education/knowledge to make a well informed recommendation. Looking forward to the next one💫
@@danielsugaimd Oh man, I've been thinking of the wrong product this whole time. OTOH, have you seen the rarely sighted hydro boost night gel cream? I think that's another one that's only at Walmart.
I have had psoriasis since I was 7 yrs old so I am extremely sensitive to a lot of stuff but I noticed my face texture changed as soon as I turned 40 in February. Which means, I need a new moisturizer and I'm very interested in the Neutrogena one but wasn't sure of the difference. This video answered all my questions. Thank you!
Your video is really helpful! I have been using neutrogena hydro boost water gel for a year now and yes it is so good for my skin. But I am getting a little skeptical now because of the blue dye. I mean nothing bad is happening to my skin it just the dye that worries me because I am not sure if there is going to be any side effects after using this products for the next few years… May I ask what is your take on this? Does dye matter in skincare products or no?
The neutrogena hydroboost water gel one felt so good when applying it but I was so sad I had to stop using it because I had a severe reaction afterwards. Really bad flaking and dry, red patches all over my face and neck. :(
I’ve used the gel cream extra dry for years and really like it 🎉 in winter I use it as a moisturizing serum beneath my thicker moisturizer like Cerave Moisturizing Cream at night for a deep moisturizing treatment. I’ve never tried the original.
Hi, Doc. I hope you are doing well. I would like to use both the water gel and water cream for some additional moisture, by starting with the water gel and following with the water cream. Would you recommend for or against this?
I’ve been using the Olay Reginerist retinol 24 hour. Can I use this Neutrogena hydro boost along with it? I’m also wondering if there is an OTC product to help lighten dark under eye circles. Thank you!
Hello! I use the water gel one and my face stings afterwards. Although the stinging is personally tolerable, would you recommend to keep using it? Thank you
I bought one of this but I'm kinda scare of using it because I see a lot of girls commented on Facebook that this product gave them an allergic reaction...and my skin is very sensitive and dry. I don't know what to do
I’ve been considering getting this gel for a while now, and I was reaaally close to picking up the fragrance-free, dye-free one thinking those were the only differences between the two, until you talked about the beeswax and the propolis! I had a patch test done this past year and out of 96 allergens, the ONLY thing I reacted strongly to was propolis! My doctor told me to avoid any product with beeswax in it and my silly self didn’t realise it could be sneaked into a gel moisturiser. I gave a cursory glance to the ingredients list and didn’t notice the beeswax, so were it not for your video and you specifically calling out the propolis, I would’ve spent money to give myself some continuous allergic reactions. 🤦🏽♀️ THANK YOU! Super informative and succinct breakdown.
Okay so I just got them confused. To preface, my routines are very simple. I clean my skin with the hydro boost cleanser, then use the aqua pearl serum and then the hydro gel for the night. In the daytime I also apply sunscreen and makeup, depending on my mood. I love it, it's nice, lightweight, hydrating and overall for my personal skin, amazing. The Gel-cream was unexpected (Obviously duh). It was very firm. It would only melt with the heat of my skin so portioning was already a problem but I tried coating everything. Now, 20 minutes later, my skin feels so dry. Like I'm seriously considering applying more just to stop my face from feeling dry and warm. It might be great for others but not for me
Tk u Dr Daniel, this is soo so helpful. Although i ordered the Gel Cream alrdy even bf this video, now l am even more convince to try the Watergel as well. Tks agn God bless u n wifey.
Doc can u do a vid on allergic to niacinamide? For entire year I've been using products especially moisturisers that contained niacinamide and it broke me out so badly but I didn't know that my skin was breaking out because of niacinamide.... Why does niacinamide breaks me out?
Love your videos! I really like the Neutrogena water gel especially the one that has the wonderful fragrance. I have oily mature skin and my face feels so silky. I've taken care of my skin all my life and hardly have any wrinkles. Pretty good for being over 60. I try to remember the sunscreen. I use the Neutrogena facial spray sunscreen. I'll probably go back to a mineral one which I heard was better for your skin. Is there a good sunscreen that you can recommend for my oily combo skin?
Hello Dr Sugai , I got the water gel one and make my face feel so painful for few minutes but not very red. Do u think this should consider is irritated? Should I stop using it? PS I’m dry skin
I absolutely love most Neutrogena products and their face sunscreens are the only ones that don't break me out. I try to avoid fragrance because it doesn't really effect my skin per se but sometimes fragrance will give me a headache. My skin is super sensitive so I do try and avoid them. I have a sample size of the Hydro Boost Water Gel that I haven't tried yet. If I like it overall I'll probably try to find the fragrance free one if I buy the full size.
Hi I am using the gel- cream. But I am so new to this products and not understand the difference between the gel-cream and a serum. Can the gel-cream be used as a serum in my daily face routine?
Something in the water gel stings like a B so I stopped using it. Bought 2 jars in different stores to see if I got a defective one but both stings. I might try the gel cream.
Fragrance doesn’t do any harm to my skin but makes it mildly hard to breathe. As a kid walking down the perfume aisle would do the same. Not an asthma attack but just “tighter” breathing. Would self resolve.
I love this review and explanation I literally just got this moisturizer and I was a bit confused Bc there was like 3 different kinds. I went with the hydrogel Bc I was looking for a replacement for the Sunday Riley tidal cream which is ridiculously expensive but i go huk Into it from a sample. I purchased 2 during a sale. However after I open the second full-size it was moldy and so I wanted to exchange it but to my surprise i was out of stock everywhere, I was able to get a full refund even after it being passed the return date. Not sure if this neutrogena cream is the same but it’s water base and it also has hyaluronic acid.
I agree, I absolutely love Olay Retinol 24. I use it at night and Neutrogena water-gel hydro boost (with spf) during the day. My skin loves these two moisturizers.
For me it’s not even an allergy thing but a smell thing. I literally can’t stand putting products in my face that have a strong smell to them. If it’s a subtle tea tree smell or subtle spf smell is one thing, but some of these Neutrogena products, although really effective, have the most unbearable smells in my opinion
The water gel is the best for me. The gel cream didnt do much for me for some reason. I notice when I use the water gel, i dont get any flaking. But when I used the gel cream, I would see flaking after a few hours. So I dont use the gel cream. The fragrance doesnt bother me at all. I LIVE by the Hydro boost line though.
The preservative Phenoxyethanol is the 5th ingredient on the list for Hydroboost. Does that mean this cream is basically just Glycerin and Dimethicone lol?
I enjoy your videos and your honest reviews. I'm 79 and my skin is really showing it. I was a sun bunny back when we poured on the oil and literally baked ourselves. Beautiful tan....lots of problems now😢
I used this product for the first time today. A few hours after applying it, I applied a zinc sunscreen to my face and it really stung and burnt. Is this a normal reaction? The hydro boost did sting when I put it on initially, but once I added the sunscreen it burnt and stung pretty badly for maybe 15 minutes.
That sounds like an allergic reaction! I use the hydro boost gel cream as a daily moisturiser, and every so often it does make a small patch of sensitive skin on my face itchy, however I’ve never experienced stinging with or without a combination of sunscreen. I think perhaps you should switch to something else, I’m pretty sure a moisturiser is not meant to distress your skin like that
Update: I was also using retin a and had just been using it a week. I knew I was supposed to start out just once a week and slowly increase but I thought since I used retin a before I would be fine. Sooooo long story short, I had retinol burn. Didn’t know this was a thing but it was 100% my own fault.
LOVE the water gel. Long standing favourite of mine. CANNOT stand the fragrance-free gel cream version, feels incredibly heavy and gives me painful acne all over my face but especially on my forehead. Will be sticking to the water gel.

Me too, I use the water gel and I'm very oily and acne prone.... I bought the water based one next ; worse for my skin it irritates it
These two are my holy grail moisturizers! Both versions are nice but I agree the water gel just feels slightly better personally for the lasting affect compared to the gel one. But it may also be because the water gel one smells really clean and fresh hehe. Just a matter of personal preference I guess.
What’s your skin type? Do you think one of them is better suited for a certain skin type than the other?
@@sams517 I have combination skin. So mostly dry to normal in the periphery and oily T zone. I actually preferred the water gel cuz I felt like the hydration lasted longer. Like when I woke up the next day my skin felt more supple and moisturized still. The gel one got absorbed faster and imo didn't hydrate as well as the water gel. But that's just my experience.
I'm loving the water gel for the day. I think I'm gonna try the gel cream at night and maybe day too because it's fragrance free.
Ray' Space bobo
I LOVE the gel-cream. It's so light and soothing and just glides on. I love that it's available in supermarkets and I just wait till it's on sale.
Is it fragrance free?
I'm a very fair skinned older lady, so need all the help I can get!
hey btw what u use water gel or gel cream??
Same for me. I have allergies to a lot of ingredients and Neutrogena works very well for me. Their AHA, BHA and PHA wash cleared my back acne.
Hi have you used cerve as well .How does it compare with Neutrogena
I absolutely love this brand? I use the water gel which has done wonders to my skin. I also use the body lotion. Amazing stuff
i love it as well, it works wonders! my skin is so much better.
both of these are great!! i use the water gel all year and then the water emulsion/cream during winters since my skin requires extra hydration during that time.
I’m a filipina and I love hydroboost water gel. It really depends who’s using it. 😊
How many days did it last you until you emptied the container? I'm switching my sunscreen.
What do you advice to use for someone with acne prone skin?
Hmm another topic to think about could perhaps be the leeching of the silicones and synthetic beeswax into the environment? Silicone is said to not break down so easily, so it's possible they pollute the environment for a long time.
I really liked the Water Gel and use it as my daily moisturiser but I've learned a bit more about sustainability and being environmentally friendly, and I'd like to make the switch to a different brand (not to mention Neutrogena is owned by Johnson and Johnson who have a slew of malpractice and unethical behaviour). I still have a halfway full tub though lol. I gotta finish that. I was already thinking of changing moisturisers because the smell is so chemical-ly and strong, but I couldn't find one that would evaporate/not leave a sticky residue. Still on the hunt for a new moisturiser. It's going to be difficult to find a brand that feels as nice as the Water Gel ;-;
The gel cream works perfect for my face. I tried the hydro boost and it left my face all dry and white. I did not finish the 1st one I got. Was glad to get the gel cream and it works awesome 👌 for me. It's the best moisturizer for my face
Your skin type?
So what's the benefit of adding artificial color and scents to a moisturizer?
I also like Neutrogena brand! Thanks for the information regarding the Hydro Boost….
Awesome! Thanks for watching , Terri 🙏🏼😃
Did it cause you more acne???
What mosterizer do u use with it?
@@lihlee._m2886 You can use any moisturiser of your choice
@@alexiac5764 I have bought a gel cream. May I use it like a moisturizer in daily basis right.?. And I have a hydro boost cleanser of this company. Are they good ? Plz let me know.
I love the water gel even had fragrance in it I still enjoy using it 🥰🥰gel cream not to my face 😔😔
Glad to hear you like it! 🙏🏼🙌👍
Aww thank you, Mimi for the kind words. Happy to hear you like the gel-cream and hope you had a nice weekend!
the extra-dry version is fragrance free :)
Your videos are so helpful & informative.👑 Love when a Dr reviews products, who possess the education/knowledge to make a well informed recommendation. Looking forward to the next one💫
Thank you so much, Linda! Means a lot to me 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
which one is better for oily skin?
There is a fragrance free version of the Hydro Boost Water Gel. Dr Dray recommends that one.
Yes, the Gel-cream I mention in this video is the fragrance-free/dye-free version.
@@danielsugaimd Oh man, I've been thinking of the wrong product this whole time. OTOH, have you seen the rarely sighted hydro boost night gel cream? I think that's another one that's only at Walmart.
@@db-gb5xi no I haven’t! Will def have to keep an eye out for that one!
Is this also good for dry skin?
Yes I use it and I have dry sensitive skin
This product is amazing, already makes your skin looks so great and radiant.
I don't like fragrance on my face. My aging skin doesn't like it.
The Gel cream breaks me out and the water gel feels soothing 🥰
Same. I have used the water gel for several months, no issue.
I tried the gel cream because I thought it would be more hydrating, and it broke me out.
Hi, Doc. I hope you are doing well. I would like to use both the water gel and water cream for some additional moisture, by starting with the water gel and following with the water cream. Would you recommend for or against this?
For a bit of context, I currently use the water gel only right now and my skin tends to feel a bit dry afterwards
thanks for sharing! as someone with sensitive skin i just always be careful and avoid fragrance. i have the gel cream and i love it so much!!!
Good to hear you like the gel-cream! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏼🤙👍🙌
I’ve been using the Olay Reginerist retinol 24 hour. Can I use this Neutrogena hydro boost along with it? I’m also wondering if there is an OTC product to help lighten dark under eye circles. Thank you!
Yes I do
I use the water-gel hydro boost. I am one of those who by no means is affected by fragrances. I agree, I love the way it feels on my face.
I have been using the gel for 2 years now. Love it!!
Hello! I use the water gel one and my face stings afterwards. Although the stinging is personally tolerable, would you recommend to keep using it? Thank you
if it does still sting, probably not
Thank you clarifying these two products it was very well explained. I personal use the water gel and I it works for my skin.
I use the water gel. Interesting vlog. I learned a lot. It also has sunscreen- a plus. HYDROBOOST City Shield
THANK YOU! Super informative and succinct breakdown.
Thanks Dr. Daniel Sugai, i go for the Water Gel.
Also with Fragrance they can hide chemicals and don’t have to say what’s in it. It can just say Fragrance
Tks agn
God bless u n wifey.
Absolutely love your videos and reviews you do!
Great review, Dr. Do you recommend them for oily sin??
Nice, quick, helpful videos. Thank you!
Love this line, I have dry skin and this is the only drug store line that keeps moisture in my skin after cleansing
This stuff has done me wonders for dry skin around my nose and eyebrows
Both of them are good for oily/combination skin?
I had the same problem with the water gel, but the gel-cream doesn’t bother my skin. It’s worth a try, it got rid of my forehead lines pretty quickly.
Fragrance doesn’t do any harm to my skin but makes it mildly hard to breathe. As a kid walking down the perfume aisle would do the same. Not an asthma attack but just “tighter” breathing. Would self resolve.
Is gel cream good for oily skin?
Thank you very much...this was something I was curious about!
They have a hydro boost water gel now that’s fragrance free!
Thank you Dr. Sugai! You are awesome! I switched to the Olay 24 retinol because of your review and it has been amazing ❤️
I agree, I absolutely love Olay Retinol 24. I use it at night and Neutrogena water-gel hydro boost (with spf) during the day. My skin loves these two moisturizers.
So glad I came across this, I love the range but will definitely be avoiding the fragrance next time.
Thank you Doctor, one you use the gel can you still apply other moisturiser?
The water gel is the best for me. The gel cream didnt do much for me for some reason. I notice when I use the water gel, i dont get any flaking. But when I used the gel cream, I would see flaking after a few hours. So I dont use the gel cream. The fragrance doesnt bother me at all. I LIVE by the Hydro boost line though.
Is the Neutrogena water gel is suitable for oily to combination skin?
As a someone with oily skin my self yes yes yes. Is truly an amazing product.

The preservative Phenoxyethanol is the 5th ingredient on the list for Hydroboost. Does that mean this cream is basically just Glycerin and Dimethicone lol?
Im using water gel base coz My skin is a acne prone and its good for me. Thanks for explaining both coz Im confuse also.👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing , I will try to use Neutrogena water gel
Hope you like it- thanks for watching!
I enjoy your videos and your honest reviews. I'm 79 and my skin is really showing it. I was a sun bunny back when we poured on the oil and literally baked ourselves. Beautiful tan....lots of problems now😢
I see 2 gel creams, the one says extra dry skin and the other says just dry skin, both fragrance free. What's the difference exactly?
I used this product for the first time today. A few hours after applying it, I applied a zinc sunscreen to my face and it really stung and burnt. Is this a normal reaction? The hydro boost did sting when I put it on initially, but once I added the sunscreen it burnt and stung pretty badly for maybe 15 minutes.
That sounds like an allergic reaction! I use the hydro boost gel cream as a daily moisturiser, and every so often it does make a small patch of sensitive skin on my face itchy, however I’ve never experienced stinging with or without a combination of sunscreen. I think perhaps you should switch to something else, I’m pretty sure a moisturiser is not meant to distress your skin like that
Sounds like a barrier issue. I would simplify your routine , no actives , add ceramides and after a week try again b it the non fragrance version
Update: I was also using retin a and had just been using it a week. I knew I was supposed to start out just once a week and slowly increase but I thought since I used retin a before I would be fine.
Sooooo long story short, I had retinol burn. Didn’t know this was a thing but it was 100% my own fault.
Is neutrogena hydro boost water gel fungal acne safe????

LOVE the water gel. Long standing favourite of mine. CANNOT stand the fragrance-free gel cream version, feels incredibly heavy and gives me painful acne all over my face but especially on my forehead. Will be sticking to the water gel.
