    Hi Jennifer - Greetings from OK (cold and rainy)! I was wondering what to make for dinner tonight and thought of your recipes. Yes! Turkey Shepherd's Pie. I went to store for the ingredients I didn't have and made it. Rave reviews all around! I served it with cranberry sauce. I seem to want cranberry sauce any time there's turkey. Thanks for a great recipe. I made just enough for a 9" square pan for my husband, son and myself. There are some leftovers.

    I love your cooking videos ! Your little boy is adorable and growing up so fast ! I’m loving the new kitchen. We are renovating ours and will have the classic white subway tiles. I had that look in a house I renovated in the mid 1990s and still love it. Adding a layer of cheese looks yum - I’ll be trying that to mine. Even though our household is only two, I also enjoy batch / freezer meals. Your daughter is getting tall ❤️ From Australia 🇦🇺 xx

    That Shepard pie looks so yummy! I too love having freezer meals on hand! I cook in a similar manner, I like to use up any vegetables in my fridge before they go bad. Recently I made some chili ( yes in this hot weather I was craving Chili!) and was out of V8 juice, something I love in my chili, adds a subtle sweet taste. Looking for a substitute, I found a can of fruit cocktail, drained it and blended it in with all the other vegetables.

      Pam Long - I had a friend who was an excellent cook, and called that method, "cooking by the seat of your pants"! My younger daughter is great at it and came up with wonderful dinner recipes all through college (she just graduated and bound for vet med school!).

      Thanks Debbie! And congratulations to your daughter on both her culinary and educational accomplishments! Sometimes I refer to my meals as clean out the refrigerator Chili or Spaghetti or Soup. Some meals are better than others, but always edible! "Waste not, want not!"

    Hello, Jennifer. This dish looks so simple and tasty! Two questions: what do you use to cover the dishes which you're freezing? Plastic wrap or foil? Also, do you allow the newly-made dishes to cool before freezing, or do you freeze while the contents are still warm? Thanks so much, and please continue posting cooking videos. (BTW, I very much appreciate your saying the dish is "healthful," not "healthy!")

    I was big on freezer meals back when we first got married (27 years ago!) and I'm not sure why I ever stopped. Excited to start making them again now thanks to your great recipes. Do you have a link/size/brand for the pot that you used to cook up the turkey and veg? I'm thinking it would need to be larger than a regular stock pot to fit all that in. Thanks, and have a lovely day!

  • @rachelh1595
    @rachelh1595 5 лет назад

    Jennifer, how large is your pot? I always end up with a pot too small which creates more dishes as I have to transfer the meal to a larger pot/pan.

    How do you prevent “freezer burn” from happening? Up to how long can they be stored in the freezer? ☺️🤔

    • @EasyFreezerMeals
      @EasyFreezerMeals 5 лет назад +2

      Hi Ivonne. I hope Jennifer doesn't mind but I'd love to answer this question for you. Freezer burn is caused by your food's exposure to oxygen over a long period of time. The easiest way to keep your food from getting freezer burn is to limit it's exposure. There are a few ways to do that. Storing your prepared food in a vacuum sealed bag is by far the best option as there is no oxygen to degrade your food and it will keep for a very long time 6 months to a 1 year. The next best way is to make sure you tightly cover the tins of food you are freezing with several layers of foil. Doing it this way your food will keep in the freezer for 2-3 months. I hope that helps...

    I was so inspired I made this last night - but substituted beef mince for turkey mince, added a tin of crushed tomatoes, a good splash of Worcestershire sauce. I bought celery salt and turmeric and now have them in my repertoire 😃 I made a HUGE dish. We ate about 1/3 of it last night. DELICIOUS. Leftovers tonight and I’ll freeze the rest. Thank you again xxx

    This recipe looks great! I love watching freezer meal videos but usually are extremely unhealthy and I know my husband will not eat them and that I shouldn't (haha). I would love to see you do more of these because I believe you show it's possible to be healthy and do freezer meals.

    Do you have a seperate freezer? Meaning other than the one attached to your fridge? I'm debating getting one. Seems not chic at all; but, it is practical . I like to envision what I'd fill it with. Frozen blue berries, vegan tamales (Tucson Tamale Company ships them when you order a big quantity), and lunches for my husband. Anyway, anyone have a seperate, second freezer?

    • @Chelseyandfam
      @Chelseyandfam 5 лет назад

      We have a chest freezer in our basement, tucked away from sight. I know some families keep a freezer in their garage. You don't have to buy a huge one, now days you can get smaller models. I'm assuming you worry the sight of a huge freezer somewhere in your house is what would make it "not chic" but correct me if I mistook your meaning! It is definitely handy for freezing meals like this, and stocking up on frozen items/meat when you find them on sale at the grocery.
