Dell precision 5680 versus 7680 versus XPS

4/25/2024 update: firmware 1.10 claims to solve some usb charging issues - i believe the sound bug - and the trying to charge e-cig bug - are now fixed - from the various updates
4/11/2024 Update: The sound driver issues have not been occurring for about last 10 days - I think new windows11 updates may have solved the sound lockups that required reboot - once or twice a week.
4/1/2024 UPDATE: The computer needs to be rebooted twice a weak - because the sound driver unloads
Until they get a firmware/software that solves this - if you use zoom intensively all day - you may have to reboot right as you join a meeting about once a month or a quarter. I hope Dell Resolves This.
Other than that we have bought 3 and all are working flawlessly other than that. One other issue - charging my e-cigarrete causes the USB-C to lock up and need to have USB devices removed and re-inserted - no other usb device does this but my e-cig recharger. Also the first one i got easily connected to my old bluetooth stereo - this 3rd one with the faster ADA 3500 card - im having issues connecting to my bt stereo - but i suspect i need to update the bluetooth on the stereo
the Dell 5680 is a great computer built from the ground up and deserves your support.
I am concerned that Michael Dell is a major contributor to the Israeli defense forces fund. in light of the extreme violence going on in Israel and Palestine at the moment and hope that Dell computer distances itself from the current Carnage in particular. are there for also bring up the Lenovo p16 which is also a fine computer however I do believe the 5680 has an edge over it in performance although the Lenovo p16 might have an edge over it in price.

what is the screen resolution of 5680?is it 1920x1200 or 3840x2400? how much hours do you roughly get out of 5680 on an average battery use?

There are 2 options: The screen you want is the 4K OLED 3840x2400, the more common screen is the 1920x1200. The price difference is not much - but B&H doesnt seem to carry any OLED at this moment. And there are much fewer on the Dell Outlet.

Yes ! Though mine is Dell certified refurbished - and I have to reboot it once a week for sound suddenly stopping. I got another one w 64 GB Ram and a Nvidia ADA 3500 - we'll see if it was a one off - on the sound needing a reboot once a week - or a general issue.

@@aligzanduh Thanks for replying. I am looking for a certified refurbished also. I found one on Dell outlet today with 64gb, rtx a2000 (good enough for my purposes), and oled uhd screen. I waited just a few minutes too long to complete the checkout. Someone beat me to it apparently.
Do you think the audio issue you're experiencing could be related to Windows 11 and updates? Did your 32gb come with the 3 year Dell ProSupport Next Business Day SW and HW? If so, would that issue be supported by Dell?
Anyway, thanks for posting this video! This helped a ton with narrowing down a good laptop that will work well for my purposes.

The Dell XPS 9530 is better than the Dell Precision 5680, because the 5680 has soldered RAM, and the Dell XPS does not.
