Hi Everybody! here is my video on how to connect the wire to the reverse car tail or turn signals light ruclips.net/video/LHGxwulIPes/видео.html and here is my full review of the Hudway Drive ruclips.net/video/z-m_ez2a8o4/видео.html and here is my video on the OBD2 Adapter Add-on. Hope this helps and thanks for watching everyone!
Thanks for this update Alex following your last Hudway video, great to have a quality independent review of the Hudway unit. The system may take some time to dispatch - but it certainly ticks a lot of boxes by combining several essential features. Looking forward to your Night Vision module update - greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
You're welcome Cameron! and thank you for watching bud! Yeah this HUD so far has been the most versatile one I found out there (I have others ones I'm testing right now but nothing comes close this one, I'm waiting on some HUD glasses those looks promising we'll see lol). Cheers from California! 🍻
Great!!! I have been looking forward for this.
Hi Ludoviko! Ah good question, I had good results switching my cars to full synthetic over blends. The trick is to switch over early in life of the car, I heardswitching later can results in leaks, also when you go full synthetic it is not recommended to go back to conventional, kind of a one way trip so just be aware of that. Regarding using the HM version, I switch my older cars to that since I seen it reduce oil leaks and the high ZDDP content of HM oil seems to benefit older engines in my experience. That being said, it is also preference, some mechanics will not use HM oil since it can swell old rubber seals (which stops leaks) and prefer to run non HM and fix/replace the actual leak that use an oil to address the issue (which makes sense but like I said it just personal preference) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Love the review. Still can't wait for my Hudway to come in.
Thank you Robert! I appreciate that bud!
Excellent review, loved the Delta on the seat cover🖖
Thanks Arvind! and good eye on that cover lol!
Thank you for this review. You have a new customer!!
You're welcome Diana and thank you for supporting the channel! 😊
This hudway has some very interesting features. I certainly would love to have side cameras but stick in the side mirrors. The beep when reversing is a little annoying but it would be helpful for some occasions
Hi Giovanni! Yeah it definitely does, what I want to test also is the ability to display engine data from a OBD2 dongle, Hudway was supposed to come out with one but they also say that aftermarket ones will work so I'm experimenting with that right now, I think it may be helpful for the track. But yeah man the beeper can get annoying very quickly (mine is already disconnected lol!)
Hi Alex great video! Have just ordered the Hudway Drive. What would you suggest for a front camera? I could buy this unit for the side cameras can I use the reversing camera not attached to signals and use it as a front camera. Would I have to use the joystick to view it as I want?
Cheers Robert
Thanks Robert! ah I think your are trying to see you front bumper while parking? while you could mount the rear camera in the front, the view will be reversed (but this may not matter much if the main purpose to protect your front bumper) since it was meant for rear it will be like a mirror, things on the left will be on the right and things on the right will be on the left. Here is another system that may interest you ruclips.net/video/Ht9Q-0HlKMY/видео.html And I have more front and rear backup systems reviews on my channel under the playlist "Back Up Systems" if you like to compare. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Gracias por el video
Denana velzus! Y gracias a ti por apoyar el canal amigo! Saludos desde California! 🍻
great review. can I install the rear camera to the front of my pickup instead? will that give alarm everytime im close to something in front of me.
Thanks Joseph! Correct, the radar camera can be installed anywhere you want since it's waterproof. Also yes you can leave the beeper disconnected if you don't want to hear it beep (that's what I did lol) Hope this helps, Cheers!
Got a question for you I like to know if you can hook the side cameras to a married dash cam I seen something like that on RUclips but I can't seem to find it if you know if this aftermarket will work with that can you give me a holler back please thank you
Hi Gerv401! Regarding connecting the cameras to a dash cam, typically is not possible as each manufacturer different systems that make them incompatible. However I have heard of some cases where people have connected things into a dashcam not originally meant for if the cable happened to fit and the camera worked, but remember while the connector may be same, the camera hardware may be completely different so I would say if you try this be careful as mixing components will likely void warranty or may cause other unpredictable issues. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Nice review I didn’t know that there where a joystick inside the package, I wait mine next week…
Thanks Konstantinos! Yeah I think they must have added it when they finalized the design which was a great idea I think so far I prefer it over the automatic camera view switching (let's me control the HUD completely instead of the HUD switching away from my current view on it's on)...
Another question, Alex! Can I connect the side cameras to an existing monitor/screen that I have in my truck?
Hi Joshua! unfortunately connecting a different camera usually does not work (and in some extreme cases it may damage the unit itself). I noticed each manufacturer uses different types of camera that may not be compatible with each other if you try to mix and match. Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!
@@AlexAutoFun ! Got that, Alex. That leads to another question- can it work with ‘Hudway Glass’ or does it necessarily need ‘Hudway Drive’?
@@joshuarozario5654 Yeah it needs the Hudway drive (since it needs the video in port to display the cameras)..
Hi Autofun, I'm wondering where are the power and ground cables goes to in the trunk? I'm currently working on the installation and have no clues
Hi Imam Imam! I would recommend to the installer to follow the instructions included with the kit to make sure everything is installed correctly (you also use the barcode shown on the video to go the full color instructional on the Hudway website). The kit itself needs power (12V+ and ground) now where they actually get connected for power, that varies from installer to installer (they all have their preferences lol I choose to install it in the trunk because that seem to be the most central location for me) If the auto switching for the side camera and the auto reverse camera switch are desired, then each one will also need a connection to be made (each one uses 1 single wire for the auto switch, so 1 connection for the left turn signal, 1 for the right turn signal and 1 for the backup signal. Here is my video on how I tap for power (and the signal) in the car ruclips.net/video/LHGxwulIPes/видео.html (I used the process for the signal wires but also used this process to pull power from the kit, except I look for a source of constant power vs switched power from the backup light) Cheers!
hi is this still available in the market? or is there is a new 4 channel cam that you can recommend ???
Hi Dairo! yes you can get it here hudway.co/drive?aff=19 As far as a 4 channel dash cam, so far we only have 3 channel dash cams but as soon as someone comes up with a 4 channel one I will review it! :) Stay tuned and thanks for watching bud!
Very interesting. I am rebuilding the whole interior of my 1972 Camaro. I am modelling all consoles and the dash and then printing all parts. Instead to display this could be cool option to integrate! How is the audio routed? Can I use navigation and play music from my phone via bluetooth to car stereo and speakers while I use the Hudway?
Hi Janne! ah yes the 1972 Camaro, very cool car! the Hudway uses both Wifi and Bluetooth for communication (The Bluetooth standard does support multiple devices connected at the same time) so you are able to use both the car stereo while also using the Hudway. Hope this helps!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks for the reply and comment on my car! I think I will order mine soon. with the side cameras, but maybe I save the night vision for future, it is a bit steep price :) .. well of to build a large 3D printer, I need that for the car parts! 😆 ..
@@AlexAutoFun Another question. I watched your videos of the Mirror Dashcams and all of them seem great devices and would be perfect for the Camaro as the view through the mirror is not too good... now If I go for the Hudway with side & back cameras, what Mirror Dashcam would you recommend? Maybe you could do a video on cool gadget combos?
@@jannekallio5047 ah good question you can find my top dash cam choices in the video description, hope this helps and cheers from California!
Thanks for the great video, Alex. I had two questions here...
- Can the HUDWAY Drive Side Cameras Set work with Hudway Glass?
- Do I need a Hudway Glass or Hudway Drive for the remote to work?
Hi Joshua! as far as I know this only work with the Hudway drive, specially now that Glass seems to be being replaced by the Drive..
@@AlexAutoFun ! Got that, Alex! Loving your videos and your mustache too!
@@joshuarozario5654 Thanks Joshua I appreciate that bud!
Could you turn those cameras around and use them forwards to help with parking near curbs.
Hi Brian! Yes technically the cameras can be placed anywhere (facing different directions) only limited by the skills of the installer in routing the cable. And if you are looking for a wireless solution here is a good alternative ruclips.net/video/1c7raDpHx3M/видео.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
Can you use the rear cam, that comes with it, as a front cam?
Hi Not bansky! correct, the camera can be placed anywhere you want (I had another viewers install it underneath their Jeep since he does rock crawling, to be able to see clearance below his vehicle) Hope this helps, Cheers!
Does the hudeay drive shoe the speed limit on the road your on?
Hi Franck! it does not, however there are 2 ways you can make it show it, one would be to use the mirror function so you can display Waze or Maps which do have the speed limit. The other way would be to submit that feature request using the app button for submitting requests, I imagine if enough people ask for that feature they may add it in the next update. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Hi, that is a good content! I actually want to install a display and hook up 3 cameras. What would you recommend if I want to constantly see all 3 images from at the same time? May I end up with this system but to connect it to a head up display? Thanks
Thanks Max! Ah yes if you only need 3 channels, here is a good choice ruclips.net/video/EeCSx35mkPY/видео.html and if you want it on HUD style here you go ruclips.net/video/b2JXMQyU-24/видео.html Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun that is how you got +1 subscriber). I checked that 3 channel mirror display and that's what I am looking for but I want same idea but with dash display (ex. Carpuride). Do you think this possible?
@@AlexAutoFun maybe there's some kind of converter box similar to the one you showed in this video with several inputs for cameras and one output for a display?
@maxsmith3193 Hi Max! Yes there are multiplexer boxes out there for people looking to build their own systems, most of the systems I review are full solutions but if I do review a multiplexer in the future I will update this comment for you. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun hey, I checked multiplexer box and they are good for recording multiple channels but for some reason you can't connect a display to access the videos in real life. They actually have couple of models with small build display, so it is not possible to hook up any aftermarket display, unfortunately
Is it possible to use it for a aftermarket head unit ?
Hi Fernando! Nope it cannot be connected to an aftermarket head unit. Cheers!
I anticipate a day when your vehicle is a mobile broadcasting center where news channels download videos of tornadoes, hurricanes and other disasters, taken at street level from your car. The view will be 4K with 360 degree viewing from telephoto or fisheye lens. Night vision will allow law enforcement to track someone's direction as they pass through your neighborhood by the patch into your communities network. Big Brother at it's best.
Yep I wouldn't doubt it, technology is moving fast, maybe too fast! LOL (I actually just saw Orwell's 1984, so relevant for todays world)..
Does android phones able to connect to this hud unit wirelessly?
Hi Jonathan, correct, the connection to the Hudway drive is wirelessly. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
In the official site they said it got night vision capability, is that true?
Hi miracle obinna! the night vision is an optional add on for the Hudway Drive like this side cameras add on, once it comes out and I get a hold of one I will also review it, stay tuned for that video bud!
Hi Buddy Video looks great and much useful ,Have you tried OBD II connector with this HUD can you suggest compatible OBDII connector Tx
Thanks Ganesh! yeah it definitely takes the Hudway to a whole new level. Here is the OBD2 compatible connector for it amzn.to/3sWPIFA I'm currently working on a video showing the additional features using the adapter enables, stay tuned bud!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks
@@ganeshmanivel5695 You're welcome!
If you can show how you connect the power in back cameras system…..
Hi Konstantinos! here is the video for that ruclips.net/video/LHGxwulIPes/видео.html Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
But does it record the video capture?
Hi Anthony! It does not records, this is a back up camera system only. However here is great alternative with side camera that does record ruclips.net/video/u7jhNVtxQdM/видео.html Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!
Hi. Its a nice video as always but you missdd out one thing which hudway description also doesn’t tell. How to connect video selector to power? It has stripped cable on one side.
Thanks mac san! Ah yes there are a couple ways to tap into the car's wiring for power including soldering and T-tap connectors, here is my video showing my approach ruclips.net/video/LHGxwulIPes/видео.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun hi i meant the video selector .”Connect the stripped ends of the red and black cables (#11A) to any 12V power supply that is the most convenient for you”(as written in the Hud camera installation)
How do I do this? One port of the given adaptor is being used to power the HUD and if I want to use the 2nd usb port for the video selector do I solder the stripped end to a usb jack?
Hi mac san! correct, the end of the red and black wires can be connected to the car's wiring to pull power using several methods including soldering or IDC connectors (what some people call t-tap connectors) You can see how I locate power and how I tap the wires for power on the video I linked earlier. Hope this helps, Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun i am really not comfortable connecting to car wires as that can cause a fire. Best is connect the stripped ends to either a usb A connector or with a 12 v cigarette light adaptor
@@AlexAutoFun i am swamping you with questions. Since i find it unsafe to connect directly to the car wires
i will now place the video selector in the front of the car and connect a usb to the loose wires to power the selector which in turn will go into the second port of the given adaptor.
Then i will run all cables to the video selector since this way only one cable for back camera needs to come to the front rather than all going back to the boot.
That sound right?
12:05 alex the numbers didn't work this time, by the way i love your reviews
Thank you ban annah! I appreciate that! Regarding the radar read out, the point where you can get a measurement varies depending on the height of the object you are backing into and the height of where the radar is installed. Since the Corolla I installed this on is somewhat high in comparison to the blue car, the radar won't pick it up until I get closer to it (imagine drawing a line from the radar to the blue car, the radar signal hits the hood not the front bumper so it thinks we are far from the car still). If you want maximize the range of the radar to pick low objects placing the radar lower will help (probably same area but on the low part of the license plate, not on the high part like I have mine) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Currently there is no camera that can show front, back, side, and the cabin all at once,? Seems this camera is not HD as the video is not bright.
Hi Edwin! correct, currently there are none. The closest we have to that is this one ruclips.net/video/u7jhNVtxQdM/видео.html or this one ruclips.net/video/JJKbUu_egiE/видео.html But yeah I think your are correct the cameras on the Hudway seem to be only HD (720) not FHD (1080) as I explained in the video if you need FHD then a stand alone system like this one ruclips.net/video/4p5f4md2Ro4/видео.html will be a better option. Specially the screen, a real LCD screen will also be much brighter (not transparent) vs the HUD, however that being said I prefer the HUD due to the reasons I explain at the end of the video. Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!
I believe we're in the early stages of vehicular cameras, I know they have been around a while, but in another 5 years outer/inner rear view mirrors will be eliminated and cameras will take over.
I’m really surprised hudway has no real rivals …. I believe apple is working on a HUD where the whole window screen is active
Hi Sally Doc! yeah I'm surprised to considering that is demand for this type of units, the closest rival would have been Navdy. I remember I wanted one when it was announced back in 2014 but at $799 it was a hard sell. I remember towards the end of the company (Navdy) they heavily discounted the unit but it was too late by then. It was a really good unit from what I can tell (and I have several viewers tell me they still use theirs) and would have been very interesting to see how far the product would have advanced if they they were still in business today!
Now they need to add a dvr box
The HUD system is pretty sweet and looks like it has great resolution. But those cameras look so nasty on that screen. Its like watching a T.V show recorded on a video tape from the 80s. I am surprised they used analogue video connections instead of a usb connection for better quality video.
Hi Ray 167! yeah it's a very cool HUD for sure. Regarding the signal, the reason I suspect it shows static is that they you have a very long cable coming back from the back of the car, so it picks up EMI and other noise from the vehicles electronics. Ways they can reduce this would be using shielding on top of twisted pair wiring, but I haven't cut into the cable so I don't know exactly what they are using but it's kind of funny, I actually liked the video signal. Combined with the HUD it reminds of the way the holograms look on StarWars which is one of my favorite movies, but yeah I'm sure not everyone is a fan of the series and wants that look LOL!
good vid. item is too expensive. Thanks, I will pass.
Thanks b123 b123! Here is a more affordable alternative ruclips.net/video/K7FbhZTxxaA/видео.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
