I'm scared to one day own a full suit and have fur everywhere. Imagine a friend of mine comes over and asks "do you have a cat or a dog?" It'd be awkward for everyone in that moment.
Definitely relate to the blind spot part lol! Sometimes after getting out of suit I have to wait a bit for my vision to return to getting used to not having that
I have a therizinosaurus dinomask partial. The beak is a huge blind spot too, as is my overall peripheral vision and my eyes are already bad + glasses on underneath. So I do the one eye look too but its given me more character as I have to tilt my head like a bird (or dinosaur) trying to focus on something.
I wish I had a dinomask, unfortunately, My country/province doesn't have Target and so I can't buy one and I don't trust most online shopping (also, i'm basically kind of poor and my mother won't really buy one online for me)
I used to do mascot stuff 5 years ago at this point and I agree with the first two. I’ve never had to store the suit and even then it was those cheap ass bootleg kids character and they were almost never furry. I am not a furry myself, but I hold a lot of respect for you suitors. It’s hot af in there and the performing is really an art in itself
I just got a mini realistic partial myself the floof really does get everywhere. In the head there is a small very bit in front of me i can’t see only about a finger width but I can’t see anything up down or to the sides meaning walking forward is easy for me but if I have to go around anything it much harder. And I can’t see anyone who is next to me I also have a moving saw making it harder to talk
I have started making my movements big thanks to RUclipss like yourself I’m trying to work on looking up as I’m walking more instead of looking at the ground as much. Having a fursuit have made me so much more comfortable interacting with other furries
I am just admiring how well you picked up that little vacuum- like they're slippery and plastic-y as heck and with a FURSUIT on? HOW? LIKE THE AMOUNT OF SKILL IT TAKES
The expression aspect is an interesting point! _I guess it wouldn't apply to me, though._ 😅 I'm very cartoony when it comes to making expressions with my body.
I also would like to add that at least for me when wearing digigrade legs and big fursuit shoes, you also learn to walk a bit differently and in my case waddle instead of walk.
I already had very decisive hand gestures beforehand, so suiting hasn’t been a trouble on that front, particularly as I don’t do many hand gestures. I added a sort of visor to the design so I could still see completely forwards and not have to make the facial anatomy weird by moving the eyes about (ungulates have eyes on the sides of their heads, whereas people have eyes on the front of their heads), so other than having to move my entire yea to look down at significant angles, it’s ridgy didge. I also adapted my way of walking due to the stilt-like lower legs of my suit (which are great for moving at speed due to the springy properties of the material) to have a bit more hip motion with each step so as to not have to waddle or shuffle while moving. A slight strut looks much better than an awkward shuffle when one has a rather grim looking character, I daresay. And concluding this information deluge, having three fingered gloves/hands is definitely an interesting experience when it comes to fine motor functions.
I recently finished my first "fursuit" (dinomast) and HOLYYY I thought I would be prepared for the blind spot but I was not. I can't see anything directly below me. Thus, I cannot see my feet. Curbs are a nightmare and stairs are a curse, I swear-
The eye sight blindspot is even worse on my tokoyami suit it literally has bird vision and I can only see from the sides not the best even then since the eyes and the paint the maker used are really thick
I'm... Gonna love my mega gengar fursuit... I don't know if the third eye is going to help with vision but I'll see when I get to building the head after I get like, Nefarin and Draven done first.
If anyone asks themselves what you could compare the limited vision and adaptive movement to, and which you can experience without buying a $5000 suit, here is a simple tip: Take two cardboard tubes (eg empty toilet rolls) and look through them like you would through binoculars. Then navigate your environment with that. Anyone who is regularly wearing a motorcycle helmet will also have some of that experience, especially regarding anything that requires looking down. For example looking at your feet. I imagine that wearing full firefighting gear including a breathing apparatus has quite a few parallels to fursuiting. Okay, this is not something that everyone can experience, and all that gear is easily as expensive as a fursuit if mot more - but it is something that I do have some first hand experience with. It also takes away some of your peripheral vision and limits your downward FOV. Anything you need to look at, you need to actively lift up to your eyes, just as you showed with your phone. Plus you might get a little bit of that "fishbowl effect" on the outer edges of your FOV. As as bonus, sound gets muffled by the flash hood and neck guard you are wearing, you have the noise of the air pack when inhaling (which is not that bad IMO) AND your voice gets muffled due to the mask. The speech membrane on the exhalation valve does some pretty heavy lifting as far as voice communications go. And with the incredibly thick gloves, all your fine motor skills go completely out the window. You can grab big items, like your hose and nozzle, your irons and sledge hammers with no issue, but small items become a real challenge. You might even drop them without noticing because you have zero tactile feedback. And good luck picking up small items. Turning a key inside a door lock looks extremely awkward and caveman-ish when wearing those gloves. I am sure fursuit paws are exactly the same.
Fursuits can be that way I know that for a fact. I am a fursuit maker myself, I literally tailor and make fursuits by hand! So I definitely know the ins and outs, cons and pros, which can also depend on how you design it. But for the most part, many fursuits are like what you've described.
I guarantee that if I ever got a full-suit, that I'd have the strong urge to cuddle someone. I mean- I'd cuddle someone in a full suit, it sounds *very* comfy. ^^
One thing that I’ve found I’ve adapted to is being able to put my fingers together for the paws but when I put on gloves it gets difficult because muscle memory tries to keep two of my fingers together
After i came back from pawcon i noticed how many pictures there were of me looking sideways, because to me i was looking straight, but in reality i wasn't even looking at the camera loll
I just realised in the zootopia universe they need to vaccum every day just to have a nice bed because fur is everywhere especially in early spring when they start to shed-
Is there a reason i have a primal fear of anything that vaguely looks like a mascot? I'm fine with them but i react the same way you'd react to something uncanny
I will never do a full suit... Because of two reasons One it's expensive... And Transformers currently have my wallet by its throat... And two, my character wears clothes, and a full fursuit would just be more money for no apparent reason...
@@Grammarly_Siono No, it's a Godzilla-themed analog-horror made by a RUclipsr called Unkn0wingly.
