  • Now in this review, I check out the lighter that has been advertised to me on Instagram for the last several days. Im sure if you are in the community, have a presence on Instagram, then you have seen this advertised to you as well. I didn't see any trustworthy reviews on it, so I decided to jump head first and buy it myself to see if it was worth it.
Now as with all of my honest reviews, I bought this with my own money. Not being reimbursed, and wasnt contacted to do this review by anyone. So you can rest assured that there is nothing to gain from me talking about this except unless you want to use my affiliate link below to get this for yourself. Im not begging you to use my link, its only there if you want this particular product and want to help out my channel.
Link to the exact Arc lighter in this video:

almost everything is made in china. People equate made in china with poorly made but thats not necessarily true, every country makes garbage quality products.
ive come across poorly made products with some excellent components, stripped those down and used them in other stuff.

Was just thinking about the plastic case.. It has to be plastic as its an Arc lighter. 😂.. a metal case would increase the risk of receiving a nasty tingle.
I assume the waterproof nature means it can work even in wet conditions(electrodes having been wet). Assuming you dry water/moisture from the case and around the electrodes to prevent the nasty tingle. Have purchased one of these before watching the video, so will be testing it.
Bought one due to the slow growing difficulty of finding matches and disposable "bic" butane lighters in Australia. We can buy the refillable kitchen lighters, buying the refills and adapters is not so easy. Gas kitchen appliances and smoking are almost dead here. Even camping stoves are going with piezoelectric igniters. Of course, can use a camping gas stove to light another medium to light the campfire. 😊

Get a 28w folding solar and this usb rechargeable plasma lighter will become a sustainable and perpetual solution to start a fire. There is also other version with a removable li-ion battery, should you be concerned about keeping the lighter in warm conditions. Just remove the battery and you should be fine leaving the unit in your car. Also ABS plastic is probably way more impact resistant than your metal lighter. Not only does ABS plastic extremely tough, it absorbs the shock and impact and stays intact. This is the reason why car bumpers are made with ABS plastic. Not all plastics are created the same.

  • @jlastre
    @jlastre 3 года назад +4

Pretty sure why you can’t leave in areas above 120 Fahrenheit is that lithium ion battery. Another YTer was claiming that you could have unlimited lights as long as you had solar panels. Oof 😣. Glad you point out the quality. That is my one big gripe about electrical items for survival. I don’t necessarily have a problem with Chinese manufacturers, for the reasons you point out, it’s just if there is an American manufacturer, even at a somewhat higher price I prefer to support them. Just look at the whole mask thing.

I am a prepared individual that also smokes bowls and I have found this lighter to work great with my hemp wick method of smoking. On the prep side it looks as if you can pop battery out just by pulling on the top and separate it from it’s case then it looks as if you could disconnect the battery from the ignition element for a more Macgyver style do what ever you want kind of lighter if you know what I mean. And on the down side it looks as if the terminals are melting a little after very little use. I am now trying to clean them which is making them a bit loose but they still work. Hopefully that helps you y’all some one out there.

In regards to the "made in china" issue that many seem to have. Almost everything we buy in Australia today is "made in china". Like some 98 odd percent of electrical, electronic, mechanical stuff, clothing, shoes, cars, camping gear, samsung and apple mobile devices etc etc. Its very difficult to avoid it. All you can do is seek out locally owned companies who have, out of necessity, outsourced manufacturing to somewhere in asia, usually china, taiwan, vietnam or Bangladesh.
So buy it, use it, enjoy it.. make the most of it. Because "made is china" is, well, unavoidable!(for much of the world).
Remember, even chinese workers are simply trying to make a living making the products we use daily. Including the bags we throw our rubbish into! 😂
On the subject of it being flat. A powerbank or an OTG adapter for a phone can solve the issue.. both apple and android devices support OTG.

U know why you can't leave it in high temperature. Becuse the rechargeable battery in it 🔋 will explode in the heat. And some time will explode during the charge
... the explosion of the battery is way dangers than the explosion of Bic lighter. You know becuse out of the heat the Bic lighter casing explode but it don't catch in fire most time
But that battery if explode it short and results massive heat and fire....

If it’s got a battery with enough juice to make an ark continuously then it’s probably lo ion & so of course you can’t leave it in the car…I’d also remind people them battery types & others like them can suddenly burst into flames so there often banned in planes & shouldn’t be left in your favourite wooden house.
Batteries have a service life but a bic can sit much longer & almost indefinitely it’s also a flint….
I like this lighter I bought the new 2023 version but I’d keep a bic in my emergency kits anyway.

Just buy a damn lighter! lol. These are ideal for smokers. They're not for campfires. Though you could just carry tinder around like you have to anyway with ferro rods.

Zippo makes an arc lighter insert. Maybe a better investment as you can swap between the two and it's metal and not plastic.

    Without offending you..
Two mistakes I’ve seen thus far in your video..
Number one; you bent down below the camera field of view in order to place the glass of water on the ground/other object.
Second; you didn’t leave the lighter in the glass of water but a couple of short seconds.
    To me..
This was insufficient to show exactly how “waterproof” this lighter actually is.
It may be water resistant rather than waterproof if immersed in water for an extended period of time or exposed to a very wet environment more than a few seconds.
There are those who’d accuse you of picking up another lighter when you bent down.
    Just saying here.
    I’m certainly not suggesting this.
I’m confident you are a conscientious individual.
I’d very much like to see you make a video where you’ve covered this in full sight of your viewers.
As well as demonstrate its ability to be clearly defined as being truly “waterproof.”
Also if you would kindly demonstrate its use in making a fire in an emergency situation using various combustible materials and even when being exposed to a wet environment or say; if you happened to fall into a stream and had to make your way to the bank prior to making a fire to warm yourself and dry your wet clothing.
You could surpass Bear Grylls videos 🤭
He’s a former reserve member of the British SAS and I love the guy.
But he makes decisions that I myself would never make nor teach another.
Again.. I’m not ridiculing you as I feel you are doing the best you know how, to provide your personal input as to this product.
I’m just a bit critical as I’m a several decades long survivalist and instructor and former military.
I’ve seen way too many cheap Chinese products hyped that were simply insufficient for what they’re advertised as being.
I don’t want to see people out there spending their hard earned wages on garbage.
Thumbs up brother for your video 👍
As I watched your video further awaiting your 5 cons..
I would like to contribute that I myself only have one negative thought about this lighter.
The drawback being it’s a rechargeable item.
Therefore, it will function in all situations except if there is no power to recharge it.
Extended usage will deplete the lithium battery if one finds themself in the fray.
And unless you have access to a power source it is useless.
A power outage or even a grid down scenario is my concern unless you have a solar panel charger or a portable power bank such is used for cellphones.
    Edited to add..
I like this lighter from watching your review.
I’m planning on purchasing several for my Go bags even though I have a redundancy in quick fire starters.
I will be undertaking an in-depth review myself.

I'm not offended and I agree with your critiques. This video is a few years old and I've, hopefully, gotten better at making content that addresses what you mentioned. As for the lighter, it's still goin strong so there's definitely something to be said for that. Really fast at lighting paper and lint even fatwood that I feathersticked. As critical as I was about this thing when I got it, I'm actually quite impressed with the longevity. I halfway expected it to stop recharging within a year. As for the charging being a con, I agree but there is one thing. Small 2.5a solar panels can fit in a pocket and if left outside all day, can charge this thing no problem. Which is much easier than finding butane or traditional lighter fluid. But I still stand by my con when I said the perk of a traditional lighter is the flint still sparks even without fuel. Something this guy can't do. Thanks for this response, cheers
