This reminds me of when I was playing a game called Animals Online. Some hacker kept targeting me. So, I said that Animals Online was a terribly made game and they shouldn't have spent their money on hacks for it (most if not all of the character models were pre-made, and there were a lot of glitches) but it was their money, they can do what they want with. Hacker's friends and her start bullying me and calling me a misogynist because apparently I'm not allowed to be angry at a woman. They start targeting another guy, and calling him a misogynist for telling them to stop, basically anyone who sided with me would be called a misogynist and be bullied. My theory is they ARE industry plants but not to appeal to the Tumblr TikTok Teen demographic but to make it look bad, like a sort of musical Oppa Homeless Style
I wanna meet the record executive who thought that advertising to "tumblr girls" is a good idea. Their idea of naive, fandom-centered tumblr is frozen somewhere around 2013. Since then, the users became much more jaded, are extremely proud of running the website to the ground and hate being advertised to. Tramp Stamps' targeted demographic did not exist for literal years. Whoever came up with this marketing strategy unknowingly threw these women down a pit to be eaten alive by a pack of rabid hyenas.
Correction, as someone who semi grew up on tumblr… Us the users, did not run it into the ground. The company did, because they completely misjudged said user base and didn't listen to us. We are proud of, unlike other websites, not breaking under corporate pressure, but the corporation breaking against our sheer decision to just… not. Also The Great Tumblr exodus has further dwindled down the numbers to the truly jaded, very observant, and yes very rabid users. They were not just throw down a pit, they were tossed down into a very very deep cavern filled with not only rabid hyenas but spikes.
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 i mean the staff absolutely run it into the ground but also the community keeps proudly stating how unprofitable and unmarketable of a user base they are
@@cosmo2590 Yea, it's almost like we _dont want to be profitable for a company or something_ almost as if _we don't like being reduced to the idea of monetary gain_ I can't wait to see how the exclusive posts fare
That's all I thought about during the video Since I only use Tumblr, i was reading posts from there alone, and i loved it. Even without the fake accounts, to think an industry plant attempted to sell things to Tumblr is hilarious. They are literally like hunting hounds when it comes to recognize corporate bs, they were bullied during and after the band got popular
i think if the tramp stamps had tried this stuff in like 2013, tumblr would have LOVED them, but they waited until all the punk kids grew up and did their research
@@LadyoftheDreamless14 No, if they tried this when a bunch of hormonal, isolated teenagers had *just* discovered social justice, the kids would've fallen for it.
"We realised we are white girls" This comment has led to helping me realise I am, in fact, a white guy. I never realised this before, and the Tramp Stamps have helped me with this major revelation. For all these years I never knew my race. These women have truly helped me :D
this was diabolical of that dude bc they said ‘we realise we are white girls’ which in context means like ‘we are aware that we are white girls’ and he changed one little letter in it to ‘realiseD’ and in one small move made everyone think that they had all together come to the shocking realisation that they were actually white in their 30’s because of a tiktok controversy 😭💀
How dare the kids these days be smarter then a multi million company that is supposed to tell them what they want and what they like?! Seriously though, super proud of today’s teens who learned to find the signs for commercialized bands. Good job!

@@AshDemonYoung i think the difference is that olivia rodrigo never tried to hide anything ? her music is decent and she hasn’t stopped being on disney so it’s like a pretty common thing to know about her
This band is embarrassing but they did one punk thing in their lives, they've stood up to endless bullying and protracted cancellation. The reaction to them is nearly as embarrassing as their music, and it's because they reflect just how stupid their target audience is politically. Case in point, the comments and this video point out that criticism of straight white men is actually racist and offensive to gay people. You guys think the same as them, just aren't as blunt about it. Embarrassing.
Their idea of being punk and feminist is... pathetic? Like, they seem to think being punk is getting drunk and having a lot of inadvisable sex, and that feminism is hating and mocking men for their bodies or gender presentation.
@@Abyssal.jellyfish there's no excuse for that. Feminism is, at its core, the strive for equity between men and women. If your fear of people thinking you're a radical feminist overrides your passion for real feminism, you're not much of a feminist in the first place.
@@beetle1516 Feminism/feminist is just a word, man. What you do is more important than what you call it. The average working class person in a Western nation frequently supports surprisingly socialist ideology, but will swear up and down that they hate socialism. If they're just misusing a word, yeah it's annoying to have to change the words you use to achieve things, but a lot of people wish that all they had to do to forward their ideology was change the word they use.
right? Obviously I'm a feminist, as I think everyone should strive for equality, but I also consider myself punk. I might not be covered in tattoos and piercings, but punk as a genre is more about rebellion and not sitting down and taking what life throws at you. At least in my mind, punk feminist is a die hard activist wearing what they want and protesting how they want, not irresponsible sex and substance ab-se
And very anti punk. If they were punk they would have given the finger and continued on. One of the whole points of Punk -to go against the grain and not to give a F.
@HelloHelloePunk counter-culture was about being Woke (in the actual original meaning) so that’s on brand though. How is racism or bigotry punk when it’s literally about oppressing marginalized groups?
Punk is full of playfulness and biting lyrics, but if you go into it without real heart, context, or true intention it can backfire. Sex shaming men is not revolutionary. It's very sad.
Not really. Shaming white men for clout is sexist racism. Punk is punk, ska is ska. The fact that everyones criticism is based on how "real" or "punk" they are and not their literal racism and sexism says more about the people levelling criticism than the band itself.
@@ASTEIR That's the postmodern neomarxist academic's definition of racism, not the colloquial and historical definition that most people understand. Power + privilege only works with other collectivists, because anyone with a brain recognizes that individuals do not and cannot represent the group. I agree, if it was, for example, a black woman writing about the racism and sexism she faces, it's good. In this case, it's a white woman who never faced racism or sexism saying "white man bad" Also, straight white men can be trans, disabled, neurodivergent, immigrants, etc. So just saying straight white man is kinda stupid. Just say privileged white men. Also, they were cis straight white women, but apparently, being a woman negates all privilege they have /s Also, they said they get men to do things they want by using alcohol. Isn't that r@p3?
Another thing I noticed on the note of their roots being the same length: their hair is all evidently professionally bleached and dyed by how even the colouring is. One punk in an indie band who didn't dye their hair at home? Believable. Three? Absolutely not.
I mean, you can evenly dye your hair at home… but you have to do it at least three times before getting kinda good at it. All this girls are first timers in brightly colored hair. Doesn’t check out
Ooh damn, I dye my hair purple at home and I get down to the roots (because I’m dumb and not a professional and I don’t know how not to) caught me off guard and made me go, “Oooooh wow.”
I love how today in november 2022 they've disbanded without a word. Their twitter and instagram hasnt updated since christmas of last year and their individual instagrams no longer even mention the tramp stamps. They've all gone back to their own asthetics that down even include punk or alternative fashion. Its not even suprising that they went like feral and just stopped without a word.
Yeah like... Punk's been a thing for decades, it's wild to say only young people can be punk and also is frankly insulting to the people who pioneered the subculture
i think it’s less their actual age and more that they seem to be trying to pass themselves off as 18-20. very “hello, fellow TikTok babies!” energy when they could’ve just… not leaned into the “uwu we’re so hip and young” vibes. dress and do your hair like you want, be punk, no age limit; but please, don’t pretend you’re “hip youngsters”.
@@samm4158 oh yeah no I meant in general, I've seen a lot of "omg you're 28? Get back in the kitchen and make lunch for your kids, ancient hag" like anyone past 20 can't have interests outside of the most stereotypical concept of adulthood. Obviously the tramp stamps in specific fucking suck
I am 30. My friend who introduced me to the... musical genius of Tramp Stamps played me the sing without showing me the video. I was legitimately convinced those are 14 yos attempting to write a 2000s-esque pop punk song despite being unable to remember the 2000s. I was shocked that these women (or at least one) are my peers. Somehow those songs are not only bad even for "generic bad pop punk" standards, but are both childlish AND disturbingly graphic at the same time...
It still baffles me that they did this all in attempt to get popular with punk crowd. In my experience, punk is some of the easiest music to get into. It isn't about perfect production, or having sweet looking music videos or even looking that good while doing it. It's music defined by the pure message and attitude. You make punk 'cause you have something to say, and that's all that really matters. The sound can be rough, it can be simple, hell, it can sound like total crap. But that's part of it all. The rough style is part of making something that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't.
For real! I'm really into riot girl punk or as i often call it "women with grating voices further conforming I'm unbelievably gay". The music quality is rarely on point, the singers aren't perfect or often even good, and the equipment is usually cheap, but when they are singing about your mutual lived experiences and it hits your chest like you just did a bellyflop, that's what connects.
That's part of the problem though... as an industry created entity, rather than a passion-driven band... there IS no message. They have nothing genuine to say, so it's all production, with no real content or feeling.
There are a ton of artists with rich parents who bankrolled or arranged their fame: Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and so forth. But they project this image of being down to earth, working hard, and being deserving without being honest about their privilege - even lying about it. I wish the playing field were more level, and I wish celebs were more honest about their privilege.
There is only so much some privileged parents will get you. Remember Rebecca Black? That Friday music video was paid for by her super wealthy parents as a birthday present to try and get their kid into the industry and it went massively viral for the wrong reasons. And did not materialize into a massively successful music career, Grammys, world tours, or SuperBowl halftime shows… privilege gives you a boost at the beginning and gets you seen but the continued growth in the industry DOES in fact require hard work and talent.
What’s wrong with men choosing to wear underwear designed for women? I know lots of women who regularly wear men’s boxers. They’re so AlT AnD nOn CoNfOrMiNg until they see something they’re not used to? K then.
Men's underwear are comfortable. Plus, I live in a country where women aren't as curvy in the back as me, so getting men's underwear gives me some comfort.
Ikr? I bought some men's underwear to wear and see how it is, and they're SO comfortable. Now I wear almost exclusively trunks and boyshorts, and somehow I do manage to match them with my bras lol.
I was about to say aren't these the same people who claim to be against gender norms and are supposedly all about people doing their own thing. They are so fake.
Man there's something so funny about three grown women trying to make fun of a grown man by doing the 3 year old "repeating everything he said" and thinking it's a serve
I think one of the biggest giveaways for me is the fact that they have NO chemistry together. They seem so awkward and uncomfortable around each other like they only recently met. They don't seem like a tight-knit group of gal pals who bonded over bad dating experiences
Idk I think that it may just be that they find it hard to act natural with each other while playing their personas. As pathetic as their parody of the unscripted Anthony Fantano video was it did give me the idea that they were actually friends.
Completely agree. When they were talking, it seemed (to me at least) like they werent actually interacting with each other but were just waiting for their turn to deliver a line mediocrely and then wait for their next line.

The weirdest thing to me about the Tramp Stamps is that they don't feel like real friends, they feel like coworkers. Like they wouldn't be friends if they didn't work in the same office.
literally like every alt girl friend group I've been around they're constantly falling on each other and laughing and playing, making fun etc etc but these women all just have the vibes of 3 coworkers you have that don't even eat lunch together
they did a tiktok that was like “how many emo/punk songs do you know” or smth like that and when mcr came on ONLY ONE OF THEM KNEW IT. thats how you know they are faking it. mcr is iconic in that kind of music like
The biggest tell for me was that they started doing this about five years after Tumblr misandry largely died. After all, there's almost nothing more on-brand for corporate internet trend-chasing than arriving a half-decade too late.
And do you know where misandry caught on instead? Tiktok, of course...so the fact that the heard Tiktok and Tumblr communities are the same and ran with it is telling as to how much thought was put into it
weirdly enough I just got funky emo scene vibes from Izzy's outfit. like the tramp stamps have this weird e-girl vibe going on thats "perfectly put together" but Izzy's outfit is just so chaotic that it seems fun instead of awkward

Technically one of my favorite bands ever is an "industry plant". Babymetal is a j-pop/death metal band that was comprised of three members of a massive idol company. None of them had ever even heard a death metal song before they were placed in that group by the company, with the idea behind the band supposedly driven by the guitarist from Dragonforce, Herman Li, who writes a lot of their music. However, they did grow to be quite passionate about their work, even writing a few of their best songs themselves, and they're highly respected by many major artists in the metal industry even overseas. Seeing Rob Zombie hanging out with them at a concert and even defending them to his fans was wild. Even more interesting, most Japanese idols kind of get phased out at age 18. The members of Babymetal are in their 20s now, which is fairly unheard of. They surpassed the idol industry basically. In conclusion, not all "industry plants" are bad, but the industry itself can be pretty shit.
TBF, I've heard a lot of bands (whether it's it's rock or pop) from Japan or South Korea are industry plants, and usually the audience knows that already. Jordan Theresa has a good video about this subject.
@@kittykittybangbang9367 Oh yeah no, the idol industry is built on industry plants. I find Babymetal to be a particularly wholesome example though, because of how much the community accepted them and helped them reach beyond just being disposable idols.
That may work for most genres, but Punk music in its very essence is against that. I also had to pause when she mentioned AutoTune. AutoTune in punk? What? Isn't punk supposed to be written and sang in exactly such a crass yet melodic way that everyone can just bawl with it because there's neither a right nor a wrong way to hit the notes? That's the punk I listen to at least, very authentic in this sense.
@@Thiefnuker I agree but isn't metal also totally against this kind of thing? A lot of the backlash for them was because of that. Anyway I've got no loyalty to Avril Lavigne x 3 so eh.
This is unrelated to the comment chain from a few days ago, but I want to point out that my first real run-in with Babymetal was when they released a Collab song with Joakim Brodén of Sabaton, a history-themed powermetal band from Sweden, and it was really very good.
This group look like Hot Topic models from circa 2002. I'm not saying that to be a hater, I'm saying that because I WAS THERE working for the company. If anything it's the biggest "tell" to me of how manufactured they are. Izzy NAILED the look right down to the mesh undershirt and fuzzy hat and I can confirm it because this is how I used to dress, gems around the eyes and all!!! Oh, and one more thing: the particular ant that got linked to the 'bug ass' meme that's shown on the "Anger Issues" image? That's known as a "Honeypot Ant." Mm-hmm, I see exactly what those three stale little sadsacks (or their management) are doing.
Their look was definitely outdated. And although I am a 2001 baby that has no memory of the early 2000’s, I definitely remember seeing teens that looked like them in the mid 2000’s when the style was fizzling out. So as an update to this story a year later, the band would release three more songs after their “Made An EP” release in “Dick Drunk”, a Halloween/horror themed track “The Story Of Jennifer” based off of “Jennifer’s Body” and a Christmas track called “A Not So Silent Night”. They’ve virtually been dormant as they haven’t posted anything since January 2022 and have basically gone their separate ways if not have the project on hiatus. Caroline and Marissa have recently come out with solo tracks and Marissa has even had an interview with Anthony Fantano back in January.
Ooh that “Jennifer’s Body” move is a very bad one. That film’s title comes from a Hole song from either the self titled or “Live through this.” Old school Hole, which love it or hate it alt female musicians as old as they are should KNOW about. The reference has already been made. Jennifer’s Body is not the one to do the “movie… based on the musical… based on the movie” thing with. The last things these women need is to alert a wild Courtney Love to their presence.

I think Marisa deleted her pinterest account but you can see literally to the week when she decided on the alternative aesthetic, everything before that was either from her Marina and the Diamonds/Lana Del Rey phase or home decorating pins.
As a musician who has lived and Nashville and experienced the local music industry/mafia, I can guarantee you that their identity and success is entirely manufactured. Their description reads almost identically to numerous mediocre up and coming songwriters that i've seen playing and promoting themselves in this city. And they probably meet in office buildings to discuss their marketability and image.
Honestly you can tell they're industry plants because of how fucking awkward and weirdly uncomfortable they look in their newly adopted aesthetic. Like it's so obvious based on that alone & them you include ALL the other evidence and it's kind of mind-blowing. x.x
It's very similar to a few years back when being 'alt' was popular on tiktok, and every other (usually white) girl was buying black clothes and demonias or docs. Flash forward and they, like many predicted, quickly abandoned the 'aesthetic' once it wasn't in vouge. I'm happy tho since it means the clothes are finally going on sale and down in price. Those ppl also always looked like they're taking photos for their mom, so awkward 😅
You know, it always warms my heart whenever the internet takes down its barriers and, regardless of political, racial, or economic divide, comes together in the spirit of hatred on one particular thing for a bit.
It’s kind of appalling how much older Paige looks compared to the others but they’re somehow all trying to all appeal as “relatable” to young listeners
It’s really sad because I listened to some of Marissa’s music and it’s actually pretty good, Caroline’s as well isn’t awful, and Paige’s song lyrics outside of Tramp Stamps aren’t terrible. Had they been authentic and true to their own aesthetics their music could have been good, but idk that’s just me 🤷🏻♀️
I haven't heard any of their stuff but they're clearly all fairly successful outside of tramp stamps. It's sad that they ended up trying to force something that didn't work instead of pursuing more genuine music.

Just thought I’d mention it for anyone unaware of the term! if you see anyone refer to themselves as a ‘MAP’, stay far away, and if possible consider reporting them to the appropriate law enforcement. As a person who was an unabashed hardcore kid as a young man, let us never forget that “punk” has been commodified and sold since day one. The Sex Pistols, for example, were a band put together by Malcolm McLaren, dressed by Vivienne Westwood, and named in part after their clothes shop. Punk rebellion has been packaged and sold this entire time.
That's a common misconception actually! The band was already together by the time Steve Jones asked McLaren (his good friend) to manage them and the only 'putting together' McLaren did was encouraging Johnny Rotten, someone who often hung around in the proto-punk scene that Jones and McLaren were part of themselves, to be the singer. Meanwhile, Westwood wasn't famous yet when she was running her store SEX and made most of her clothes by hand with the help of her children and friends. Their 'rival' band the Clash was equally as 'put together' in the sense that their manager Bernie Rhodes also found them a singer who he thought would mesh well with the band and encouraged them to the dress in clothes he helped make. Rhodes was actually the one who told The Clash to make political songs, meanwhile McLaren was ignored and laughed at when he tried to tell the Sex Pistols what to write songs about... If you want sources, please check out the books England's Dreaming by Jon Savage and Passion is a Fashion by Pat Gilbert, both are very informative about both bands I talked about. Or just look at the Sex Pistols' Wikipedia page, it's much quicker and will still help clear up misinformation
@@lizburton3840 - This was such a charming, thoughtful, and informative comment. Thank you! I’ll need to rewatch the video to recall exactly what I was driving at, but of course you’re right that McLaren didn’t put together the Pistols in some Phil Spector-like fashion or like a boy-band from the 2000’s. And the Clash were definitely a deliberate and managed enterprise and a product of that scene. Honestly, I think it could be argued that the Sex Pistols were more authentic than the Clash, love them as I do. So your points are well taken. I do think McLaren brought something important to the effort, if only direction and a vision he gained while experiencing what was going on around Rex’s and CBGB in New York. He and Westwood seemed to recognize the importance of looks to “punk” and their take on those looks clearly resonated. I guess my point was that while the energy behind what became punk in the UK arose organically and spontaneously from the people and times they were in, from very early on it was guided and deliberately influenced. Nor is that a bad thing - Steve Jones definitely made a good choice asking McLaren to manage his band!
@@b.w.22 Thank you for such a kind response, I wasn't expecting something so nice because usually people get angry with me when I try to clear up misconceptions about the Sex Pistols. I don't know why that is, I just want everyone to be on the same page together McLaren was definitely important to the group's success, as any good manager is! He's kind of like the britpunk version of Brian Epstein, the manager of the Beatles who helped them become successful with his business savvy and media know-how, as well as helping organize their ideas into a more cohesive structure. I think people were always somewhat aware that punk would benefit greatly from 'a look' (the Ramones were certainly aware!), McLaren and Westwood (as well as Rhodes, he was a fashion designer too after all) were the perfect team to create that look with the inspiration they had from both the NYC scene and what they were seeing back home in London. Richard Hell was a major fascination/idol for McLaren and Westwood, as well as for Johnny Rotten who was a big fan But, to continue my very silly Beatles analogy, we wouldn't credit Epstein with the true meaning behind the Beatles or discredit the hard work of the band members because they had some help from him so why is it okay to do that to the Pistols? I hate to see the skill and hard work of working class boys who went through so many hardships in life be devalued or ignored... Anyway, I actually strongly agree with you that there's always been an edge of commodification and exploitation in the 70s British scene that only got stronger and stronger as the years went by. There's something to be said about how so many movers and shakers of the scene were store owners/clothes sellers (McLaren, Westwood, Rhodes, and Don Letts). It's a interesting topic. I just wanted to clear up a few things so that we can all be on the same page! Thank you again for your nice response!

I couldn’t really be mad at them but it made me realize how much of punk aesthetics and music have been co-opted and commodified by people who don’t actually care about the subculture
I personally thought the first hint to their posership is the fact their aesthetic/fashion is about 10-15 years out of date. Fashion in subcultures still change over time, the genuine punk/alt/riot grrrl communities of today do not dress like that anymore, they don't look like the Tramp Stamps. Its like whoever was in charge of figuring out their image (be that a company or themselves) just google imaged the desired aesthetic, got a bunch of results from back when this kind of music last peaked in the mainstream (ie the 2000s-early 2010s) and just copied it as is. Like a band like Steel Panther for example gets away with dressing 40 years out of date because they're a comedy band, thats part of the joke. The Tramp Stamps weren't presenting their look with any kind of irony, it was supposed to be taken as genuine when its literally like they were going to a costume party where the theme was "Hot Topic circa 2007"
2007 hot topic clothing is rly popular now actually...the tramp stamps clothes looks like 2017 dollskill clearance stuff lol which is indeed very uncool
@@projectjupiter5523 And even thats a low bar to clear since the younger people of tiktok have a VERY lose grasp of what alt fashion is. Like taking a basic 2020s outfit and changing the colour pallette to black is not goth/emo/punk or whatever some of these tutorials claim it to be
The Tramp Stamps really thought they did something when they made fun of Anthony Fantano, apparently unaware that Fantano fans meme and read the man down into the ground at every opportunity, and with much more wit.
It was over immediately the second they decided to each have their hair dyed a different color. Look at actual female punk bands, or even groups of friends, black and bleached blonde are probably more common. Maybe one or two could have a bright color sometimes but a group of three where they each have a candy color they always dye their hair is more pop than punk. Also, as a candy-colored hair person myself, it's also way more common to change colors a lot than to stick with one shade. I'm offended by their lack of knowledge about fashion color hair dyes lol
I also thought that, as well as it being odd that they would all go for only one shade of one color. I would expect a real band with all candy colored hair to at least have one person with two or more colors.
If nothing else, it screams "we did this for marketing", which is extremely unpunk of them. No punk band intentionally looks like they chose to be the punk girlboss Powerpuff Girls.
I have to object, just a little, I'm a person with candy hair and I've had it roughly the same pink for the past 6 months or so (same hair dye, different processing and bleach levels and stuff)
As a guy one thing i've always found is that there are two kinds of "girl power" music, The kind that says "lol ur like 2 inches, haha get fucked" and really appeals to a bad kind of person and has a toxic fanbase and just is creates drama. And then there is the kind that pulls up the woman herself without tearing down someone. The kind that shows that she is worthy of attention, time and is valuable all on her own.
I got a like from the mighty Z, bow before me mear mortals. Also just want to clear up, yeah I think the first kind of "girl power" music isn't real or anything like that. I don't hate it, I think it's misguided. You can't build up by tearing down. Care for yourself first.
I was a young adult of the 1990s. Back then it seemed as if bands that got big really did come up from the bottom as they tended to hate being famous, Kurt Cobain being the most obvious example. And then you've got artists like Jarvis Cocker (of Pulp) Skunk Anansie, the Manic Street Prechers. I'm a Britpop kid at heart and there are some very well written, intelligent and political songs in that genre.
@@aetherialbeing4223 not just you i'm with you fully on that, and most of the stuff they claim about guys is stuff out of the guys control (dick size, how hot they are, etc) But they are all about body positivity. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should be able to work on their body and themselves to get themselves to a point where they love they love themselves and their body. Even straight white cis neurotypical young men. Got a small dick? You are worthy of love Got small breasts ? you are worthy of love Got a large head that makes it hard to wear most hats? I am- I mean you are worthy of love. And yes, they do seem to be fixed on sex, though I think that's more our culture then anything. Every song, "man bed in bed" Every tweet "am good in bed, sleep with me" Like if most of your songs are about sex, then what the fuck bro? touch grass.
@@aetherialbeing4223 "by saying they’re bad in bed, have small penises etc etc while also complain about men wanting sex and shit and how men make comments like that about women" it's just attacking people for the thing that you think will hurt them the most, and yeah it's pretty incongruent with body positivity. “we aren’t objects for sex but let’s brag about sex and how much we love it” this isn't hypocritical, though. the concept of women being sex objects is about their value to men, like their purpose is to please men. women can reject that and demand to be seen as people with agency and value, who don't exist just to be attractive and pleasing to men, and still be horny as fuck
If anyone is looking for the second kind, I highly recommend Tonight Alive. Jenna McDougall (the lead) is super into empowerment for all genders really, but the band also tackles some more traditionally feminine issues in their music here and there. Like "Lonely Girl" is about letting toxic friends go and finding yourself as a human being, but from a perspective that most men don't really go through in their lives. (Also it's a total JAM of a song) But yeah overall she's just really into self-care and gender equality and all that, and the band as a whole supports a lot of female artists and such as well
Thanks for mentioning the tramp stamps' connections to Dr Puke and Kesha's allegations against him. And for anyone curious, Kesha released an album in 2020 called High Road, where she had complete creative freedom, if you would like to support her.

My mum was an original 70s U.K. punk- I grew up lucky (dirt poor but lucky) because my mum supported any music and styles I wanted to explore meaning I spent most my nearly 30yrs as “alternative” (and looking very questionable at times lol) but one thing no one ever did was rag on someone for their colour, orientations, gender indentifications etc- it actually seems like the alts are now worse because “back in the day” (early 20-20teens) I remember that we’d attract a lot of LGBTQI+(?) members because they knew they’d just be accepted as they were. Hearing them say that stuff? That’s NOT how a riot girl or any alt girl (just anyone in general) should be talking and singing and let’s not shame and mock men either.
I suspect some nostalgia goggles (or just being more shielded back then), but I can still see where your coming from as you probably saw how commercialized alt culture has gotten since Nirvana got played on MTV. All these meat heads adopting the aesthetics of alt subcultures and genres (The likes of grunge, hardcore, goth, emocore, post-punk, the metalsphere has also suffered for a long time) without taking the time to figure out the ideology and why of these scenes.
Same here. My mum being an old school punk was the most awesome thing because I was accepted whatever I wanted to be/do, and I was surrounded by people with all colours, creeds and flavours. Gatekeeping is so not punk.
Someone (in this video or another one about them) said with their neon candy hair colors, they look more like a cute pop band than an edgy punk band. So I made cute 2000’s/2010’s themed girl characters with cute fashions. They also wear pink, purple, and blue with their own fashion and personality. Maybe they are good for something after all.
I completely missed this whole situation, but seeing just some of their photos and videos, I get that their version of punk is inspired specifically by the punk of the early early 2000s. That in and of itself isn't bad, but that era of punk was kind of like... punk on a diet. So this feels like a diet on a diet. Even the name "Tramp Stamps" feels very catered. Like it's a reference to a tattoo placement that was sort of considered "trashy" 20 years ago, but almost no one has a problem with it in real life. It's not rebellious. My 6th grade teacher at my private christian school had one and was proud of it.
Yes! I was just thinking that their "punk" is modeled after what was considered mildly subversive 20 years ago. Like, yeah, their lyrics are kinda edgy, but ultimately there's not a lot of substantial societal critique or anything
'Tramp Stamp' Haven't heard those words in conversation for many years. Very cheesy half-arsed attempt at being controversial. May as well have called the band Whatever Major Loser, or Totally Wicked, or something along those lines. It hits the same for me. Glad you pointed this out.
I'm into punk music back from the 70s-90s (and more recent underground stuff), and whatever the hell the Tramp Stamps are is so far removed from anything I'd consider "punk" that it's almost hilarious.
"punk on a diet" I LOVE IT! I was lucky enough to have seen bands like DOA, Black Flag, Nirvana, Ministry, and many others when we were total rejects and outcasts and hated anyone who followed a trend, good comment!
Honestly the most Ironic thing to me is that they try to push this like revolutionary riot girl alt 'punk' image, with like neon hair and a closet of dollskill, it feels especially artificial as dollskill is known in the punk community and other alternative circles as a company to not shop from for various reason conflicting with basic punk beliefs.

Their idea of naive, fandom-centered tumblr is frozen somewhere around 2013.
I agree! You worded this really well, I was gonna add something bytt you said it perfectly
@loveutill theendoftimes only if you are actually a poser.
i mean if anything sweet looking music videos and looking good right off the bat is a mark against you
That's part of the problem though... as an industry created entity, rather than a passion-driven band... there IS no message. They have nothing genuine to say, so it's all production, with no real content or feeling.
"we see you we hear you" is THE most industry thing they could say

It was funny as hell.

I don't know why that is, I just want everyone to be on the same page together
McLaren was definitely important to the group's success, as any good manager is! Richard Hell was a major fascination/idol for McLaren and Westwood, as well as for Johnny Rotten who was a big fan
But, to continue my very silly Beatles analogy, we wouldn't credit Epstein with the true meaning behind the Beatles or discredit the hard work of the band members because they had some help from him so why is it okay to do that to the Pistols? I hate to see the skill and hard work of working class boys who went through so many hardships in life be devalued or ignored...
Anyway, I actually strongly agree with you that there's always been an edge of commodification and exploitation in the 70s British scene that only got stronger and stronger as the years went by. There's something to be said about how so many movers and shakers of the scene were store owners/clothes sellers (McLaren, Westwood, Rhodes, and Don Letts). It's a interesting topic. I just wanted to clear up a few things so that we can all be on the same page! Thank you again for your nice response!
I hope you two are married, now.

This was honestly such an annoying controversy to me because many of their song lyrics and sentiments are very directly anti-punk, from the racism and references to dubious consent to the belittling of non-traditional gender expression to the body shaming and shaming of people for their sexual “ability” and more, all of which is just so antithetical to the entire punk ideology.

Not even kpop stars have their hair dyed the same color,,,
If nothing else, it screams "we did this for marketing", which is extremely unpunk of them. No punk band intentionally looks like they chose to be the punk girlboss Powerpuff Girls.
I have to object, just a little, I'm a person with candy hair and I've had it roughly the same pink for the past 6 months or so (same hair dye, different processing and bleach levels and stuff)
They could’ve saved it if they’d just done the colors of the Powerpuff Girls
Coulda brought it back lol
Their response to Anthony Fantano's review is so pathetic. You can feel them holding back anger and tears. How petty.
You are worthy of love
Got small breasts ? you are worthy of love
Got a large head that makes it hard to wear most hats? I am- I mean you are worthy of love.
And yes, they do seem to be fixed on sex, though I think that's more our culture then anything.
Every song, "man bed in bed"
Every tweet "am good in bed, sleep with me"
Like if most of your songs are about sex, then what the fuck bro? touch grass.
(Also it's a total JAM of a song)
But yeah overall she's just really into self-care and gender equality and all that, and the band as a whole supports a lot of female artists and such as well
Thanks for mentioning the tramp stamps' connections to Dr Puke and Kesha's allegations against him. And for anyone curious, Kesha released an album in 2020 called High Road, where she had complete creative freedom, if you would like to support her.
glad shes been able to strike off on her own genuine career without having to make money for some creep
@@haha-pw7nv unfortunately, he still profits off her music, she is still on his label bc the judge would not let her off her contract, but she no longer has to work with him on her projects.

Gatekeeping is so not punk.
what a refreshing read!!
I love how's Izzy's entire spotify playlist is the entire Sims OST

Great Value Avril Lavigne.
When that one tweet said they fetishized mlm, I thought they meant multi-level marketing and I was not even a little bit surprised.

17:15 "that's what the song is about, it's basically a dramatic way to tell men... to... be... better in bed..."
the slow realization that this is what they decided to write a song about is hilarious.
it's so funny because she's so clearly more at home writing HR language emails and doesn't have a charismatic bone in her body. if she just said "fuck off" it would have gone over better lmao
"How many people are in the duo?"
"I think there's three"
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
I think at this point they just had a Joker origins twist and just snapped, and ironically enough this might be the fuel they need to become truly punk
One of them is Republican. They would be eaten alive by punks.
Are they the Hong Kong Danger Duo? They are so dangerous because there are three when there should only be two!
@@asmrtpop2676 punks have standards
@@asmrtpop2676 I wish but Republican punks do exist. They usually get dunked on quite a bit though, something the Tramp Stamps are certainly familiar with.
