Today on our 2016 Honda Fit we're going to be taking a look at and installing the CURT class one trailer hitch receiver, part number C11406. This is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it still maintains a pretty clean look underneath the vehicle, doesn't really take away from it at all. Here you can also see that it should give us plenty of clearance for any bike racks or cargo carriers that we may want to mount to this, because it comes close but not all the way out to the rear of the bumper. Here we've got the 1/2" hitch pinhole in order to secure anything that we may put into our receiver tube. We've got the flat plate-style safety chain loops with the cutout holes in them.
This hitch makes for a very easy install as it has three points that it secures, one in either frame rail and then one under here to the tow hook. It features a 200 pound max tongue weight rating and a 2,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, but you will want to be sure to check the owners manual to see if your vehicle is capable of carrying that type of weight. CURT does recommend using a stabilizing strap when carrying things like bike racks and cargo carriers. Some people have been worried about what kind of ground clearance you'll get back here, but it is tucked up nicely to the fascia that's under here, so there really isn't a whole lot to worry about when it comes to that. Now I'll give you some measurements to help in your selection of hitch-mounted accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers. The distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the rear bumper is 2-3/4".
The distance from the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-3/4". Now let's show you how to install it. Now the first thing we're going to need to do is we'll need to let this exhaust hang. In order to do that we're going to put a little bit of splay lubricant up on these rubber isolators here that are over the exhaust hangers. That's just going to help assist with sliding those isolators off of the hooks. You can take a pry bar or a pair of channel lock pliers if you have them in order to slide these off of here.
Then you just want to let that exhaust hang down there so that you can gain access to this whole right here that we'll be using to mount the hitch. Now before we put the hitch up into place, right here we've got the passenger side, which is going to go up over exhaust. You want to be sure that you use the correct 7/16" carriage bolt on this passenger side. As you can see, we've got two different lengths here. You'll want to use the shorter one for the passenger side and the longer one for the driver side. Now we can take that shorter 7/16 carriage bolt and block spacer, and take our fish wire.
We'll feed that block spacer down over the threaded portion of our fish wire and then put in our carriage bolt. Then what you'll want to do is you'll want to slide the head of the carriage bolt up through there, followed by the spacer. Then you can pull it back down into position. Then we'll do that exact same thing on the other side, only with the longer bolt. Now our third attachment point on this hitch is we're going to use this factory tow hook right here. We'll take this 3/8 u-bolt and we'll just let it rest there right now before we put our hitch up into place. Now I'll take this larger block spacer with the round hole. Then on top of the driver side mounting hole for the hitch here is where I'm going to tape this, because that's going to give us that extra clearance that we need around the plastic shield that's up there. I'll tape that there. Then you can take a screwdriver or knife or something just to make the hole accessible again. Now you'll want to grab a second set of hands in order to slide this up there. Need to get the fish wire set through. We'll go up over the exhaust first. Once you're over the exhaust there, you can feed this other fish wire through that block that you've got on top there. Then you can start the two 3/8 flange nuts onto the u-bolt in order to help hold it into place. Then we can take our fish wires off here and get our 7/16 flange nut started. I'll do that same thing on the other side. Once we've got everything just started with our hands, let's go ahead and take our hitch and pull out and make sure that it's centered. Once that looks good, we'll be able to go through and begin tightening them. For each one in the frame rail with the carriage bolts will be an 11/16 socket. Then for the 3/8 nuts on the u-bolt here, which we'll want to try to tighten as evenly as possible, it will be a 9/16. Then we can go through

Superb detail in explaining the mounting instructions!! But in order to lower my muffler on my Honda Fit i had to unwedge 5 isolators from my muffler to lower it enough to mount the rack and to drill it in- not just the 2 that you pryed out

How much lower does the hitch receiver hang down than the tow loop? Concerned about ground clearance because I have a very steep driveway that hits the road at an angle. Thank you!

This hitch will only hang about 1/4" lower than the tow loop on the vehicle.

Will this trailer hitch pull a "Stinger" Motorcycle Trailer?

Its more about the car, not so much about the trailer hitch lol.
Its a very light car with independent rear suspension so anything over 500 lbs towing would be pretty scary with this thing. Not to mention its a small engine with relatively small brakes for anything other than the vehicle + occupants.
Ideally the hitch is made for bike racks, and maybe a very small cargo trailer.

Can you put a kids dirt bike on the back of this car. A side rack?

This hitch is rated for 200 lbs of tongue weight. You will need to check with the owners manual of your vehicle to see what your vehicle can handle for tongue weight.

I just installed a Reese kit. It required bending the exhaust hangers so that the muffler didn't hit on the hitch bolt. Is this not needed fro this one? The mounting point is the same.

I read through the instructions and didn't see anything that would indicate bending the exhaust hangers. You can view more information and a link to the instructions at the link below.

Depends on how much play is in the exhaust, usually with firmer mounts you wont need to bend the hangers.
CURT is known for almost seamless installed hitches so even though they look identical this cat might be a bit tighter around the exhaust.
