@@marksmith2402oh, we could afford that as well, but we move kind of slow on things like that. I highly doubt we'll ever have a system as comprehensive as the UK's NHS, but I imagine the ACA subsidies will continue to get expanded, the same with medicare and medicaid, until we get more universal coverage. I honestly prefer government insurance as an idea over a government doctor, as long as the government isn't getting too involved in my Healthcare decisions. Side note, the memes are bull, it's not the Healthcare bankrupting us, it's the birthday stuff like missing work and falling behind on bills. Also, with kids, if you can't afford insurance you can get your kids on medicaid, and women can get pregnancy medicaid to cover the costs. So the young at risk are still covered, as are the elderly with medicare. I make enough money to own my own house (i am careful with my money), but I'm still under the line that allows my 3 kids to have medicaid. My own insurance isn't too expensive. Healthcare costs are pretty low on my list of worries, and we've got a congenital bleeding disorder, with one of my kids having a severe version of it (thank God for the ACA, for protecting people with preexisting conditions, prior to that people getting crushed by medical costs was an actual major problem), so i think i can safely say that anyone who says their going bankrupt from healthcare costs are dying one of 3 things: lying, making really, REALLY, poor decisions, or too dumb to realize the reason they went bankrupt after a long hosptialization wasn't the hospital bill, but the lost wages, which BTW everyone is an excellent reason to get critical illness insurance, seriously it costs like $2 a month, go crazy, plan ahead a little.

Don’t mess with our stuff and definitely don’t mess with our ships !! don’t mess with our plane and don’t mess with our country. I mean 9/11 was 9/11, but what happened after Pearl Harbor was pure revenge!!! FDR set that up and he knew what was gonna happen because he knew he was never gonna get Americans to agree to get on board to go to war. Japan knew they could never beat us in a war, but thought if they could do what they thought they did in Hawaii successfully it would knock us out of the war for six months and they would be winners because six months would give them enough time to take over the Philippines, and other countries & islands where they could get and steal all the resources they really needed to fight a full front war, but that didn’t happen because they are Pearl Harbor attack in attack on Oahu was actually a complete failure! They didn’t blow out a lot of things they were supposed to and they didn’t blow out the oil because they didn’t think we would be able to use it, and thankfully our aircraft carriers were not import, but out on Mission. The Japanese had a terrible hit ratio, and Americans have always been about precise bombing going back to World War II and that’s because we want to hit the spot we want to head and hopefully without taking any civilians it possible or as few as possible
Except the us gets about 5% of its oil from that area. We did what we did because Japan and India were getting 40% of their oil and it was their supply we were protecting
@@clutchpedalreturnsprg7710 Yeah, one thing that gets overlooked by a lot of people blustering about, "Oh! America's only after the oil, hur hur hurrrrr!" is that oil drives the entire world economy. From the machines used to farm food, to getting that food to processing and distribution centers, then on to markets from there - often crossing hundreds or thousands of miles to do it, nearly all of it is driven by oil. If the supply of oil gets threatened, that doesn't just make prices go up; it also means that the entire global economy suffers increasing instability. Push that far enough, with countries running out of oil entirely, you wind up with whole nations' economies breaking down. Food rotting in distribution centers in the countryside while millions of people in the cities starve to death. It's a horrifying thing to imagine. And, sure, those same people like to say something like, "But renewable energy sources, hur hur hurrrrr!" and, yes, *eventually* electric trains, industrial engines, and tractor-trailers will help with that. *But* nearly the entire industrial infrastructure of the whole world that supplies 8 *billion* people is a huge and unwieldy thing, and it will take time - likely many decades, if not a century - to replace all of that with better, more efficient systems. So when a country starts poking the world oil supply - *anywhere* in the world - then the US is going to take notice.
Part of the whole thing for the show of force is, a lot of countries bluster and say: "You don't scare us! We will stop you!" and then they get shown how that's an interesting hill to die on. The bad part is, when dealing with naval vessels, that's a lot of people dieing at once on one hill.
This USS Samuel B. Roberts actually shares its name with a WW2 ship that fought in the Battle off Samar. It became known as 'the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship' as a part of task group Taffy 3. It is currently the deepest shipwreck ever found from WW2, which was a few years ago.
On a side note, Samuel B. Roberts was named after the captain of a destroyer during WW2. They are famous for a battle off Samar Island Philippines, where Roberts threw his ship at a Japanese fleet of 2 battleships, 6 heavy cruisers, several more light cruisers and 20 destroyers. Roberts ship was one of 6 destroyers who attacked this fleet. And won. Look it up as part of "The Battle if Leyte Gulf.
Samuel B.roberts was a coxwain on a landing craft that gave his life to save troops. They named a destroyer escort after him that was an escort for Taffy 3, an escort carrier group covering the landings in the Philippines. Roberts, along with the destroyers U.S.S. Johnson, & U.S.S. Hoel charged a massive Japanese surface fleet that appeared around Sambar island and attacked the carriers. These three ships caused so much havoc that the Japanese thought they were fighting full size carriers and battleships, the Roberts fired a Torpedo spread that caused the mighty super battleship Yamato to retire, and blew the bow off a Japanese cruiser.
proportional can mean a lot of things. It could be the cost of the ship, damage caused to the shipping lanes or it can be like a gear ratio. 1 part annoyance to 3 oil rigs and 2 frigates. As for the silk worm missiles. America called it's shot and would have been justified in just leveling all of their military bases then just not following through on the land war. This is generally the main problem with America's government style when it comes to diplomacy. Every 4 years the world has to try to figure out how the new guy will act. I am a supporter of the theory of peace through overwhelming shows of force. Elephant walks are one thing but if people don't understand the power of those elephants they start to think they are fully domesticated. A little fit of rampage specifically targeting a strategic but lesser important part of the infrastructure will ensure peace for a long time. Basically a punch to the gut and an offer of a beer is generally how foreign diplomacy functions. AKA showing the two options a fight or friendship. It is these protracted conflicts without a clear end goal that causes the problems.

The idea behind it has nothing to do with bragging rights (though of course some younger and not all that bright people seem to think that is the sole reason). No the reason is to break your opponents will. 'Shock and Awe' no matter what label it goes under was a huge thing and still hugely effective and always has been, no matter what military or empire it may be from or the era involved. Overwhelming your opponent is not to wipe them out but to quite literally overwhelm them into not wanting to fight any further which if done fast and hard enough can actually end up saving a lot of lives, money, and needless suffering on all sides concerned and especially for reducing total civilian causalities.
Great reaction guys, this guy is a highly entertaining storyteller. The actual story of the mining of the Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) - and its survival is an epic story, and worth hearing - as are the stories of its namesake(s) - both the Destroyer Escort Samuel B. Roberts (DE- 413) and the young sailor Samuel B. Roberts - for whom these ships were named. A "Praying Mantis" is a carnivorous insect.

One of the results of WWII was that America decided to use it's vast navy to guarantee the reactivation of sea trade routes to assist the war torn regions to rebuild. That is why today USA maintains a large carrier, surface, and submarine force. USA has always had a tradition of "freedom of the seas", and routinely sends it's naval warships into international waters all over the world to "show the flag". When piracy looms affecting and disrupting trade routes, the US Navy will, in conjunction with other navies, participate in policing operations.
There is actually a massive strategic shift going on in regard to this. The US did this to maintain alliances and use free trade to lure countries away from the Soviet sphere of influence. Today the Soviet Union is gone and there is no need for this anymore. This is why you’re hearing about the end of the Globalized economy. Since 1991 this economic and military strategy has actually been hurting the US in more ways than one. Trump was a manifestation of this.
Love seeing all the new faces getting introduced to The Fat Electrician! He's THE best storyteller out there! Well researched topics with a delivery that only a grunt can give! Enjoy his stuff, it's fantastic!
Rough conversion if you're unaware. The 23mm anti-aircraft guns have an inner barrel diameter of 23 mm, 25.4mm = 1 inch. The barrel of the 5 inch guns of the naval vessel is slightly larger that 5x that of the 23mm anti aircraft guns (and carry vastly larger payloads, and can carry more varied types of ordinance [High Explosive, High Explosive Armor Piercing, Armor piercing, Incendiary, etc] The Praying Mantis is a very specific group of insects, its name comes from how it stands perfectly still, as if in prayer or meditation, and its posture. It sits still enough to me mistaken by other insects and creatures up to the size of a hummingbird for "just a stick or branch" the mantis continues its pretense until the prey gets close enough, and with lightning fast reaction bursts into action grabbing and incapacitating, if not immediately killing its prey. Praying mantis have been documented to kill mice, some varieties of snakes and just about anything smaller. That something about 40-70 mm long, with a body under 7mm in diameter and weighing under 10 grams, can kill an adult mouse which is at least as long (not counting the tail) much broader, much heavier, is rather impressive. I would place it akin to an adult house cat taking down a large dog such as a German Shepherd in a 1 vs 1. (the last comparison is purely my opinion based on my limited familiarity with the mantis.)
Love your reaction video! Thank you for your appreciation. We have a bunch of Americans we wish we could send away from our country for a few months to a place of our choice to help engender a bit of appreciation on their part...
The bin Laden raid was titled: "Operation Neptune Spear" ~ the Hollywood movie based on it is: "Zero Dark Thirty." The US has by far the largest military in the world. Bigger than China, Iran & Russia combined. Great vid btw ~ cheers to Modi!! ✌

I think of the plot of Independence Day (the one with the aliens) and wonder how long humanity would have lasted if they had used caution and aimed for "proportionality" when dealing with the invading force.
But they did, the aliens were planning to exterminate us and had killed unknown thousands in their attacks. we killed unknown thousands making sure they couldn't continue their attacks. the fact it may or may not have resulted in the genocide of their species is entirely secondary to the objective of making those attacks cease.
Praying mantis is an insect like a grasshopper but larger. Praying refers to the arms looks like the mantis is praying with arms bent. However it's an omnivore that will attack other insects to eat them. It's pretty vicious. I've heard they've also been used in betting games in 3rd word countries where the laws are not as strict.
Praying Mantis are a predatory insect, it utilizes camouflage and immobility. It has two front legs that look like sabers to capture it's prey. They are very effective hunters

Praying Mantis: Insects: They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. Their elongated bodies may or may not have wings, but all have forelegs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, has led to the common name Praying Mantis.
He's not kidding when he said they sinched with steel cables. They quite literally went underwater, welded steel cables and performed the equivalent of a medical surgery operation to the ship and sewn that hole shut with those cables. _Complete mad men._
In my opinion, the idea of "proportional" response is to communicate, "What you did, really annoyed me, and..." like 'The Hulk' character might say, "...don't make me mad, you wouldn't like it if I get mad." I agree, no idea why they called it Praying Mantis.... more like poking the hornet's nest.
One way to look America and being "prepositional" in its retaliation is to compare it to the stereotypical meal portion serving sizes compared most other countries. Generally around a 1

The key here is properly understanding the word 'proportional' as Reagan used it. 'Proportional' actually means 'if you stop being evil right now, we will not be forced to carpet bomb your entire Persian Gulf beach front...and we may even let you keep a few fishing boats'.....but, if you keep on pushing, you'll be fishing with rod and reel from the shore...so you 'proportionally' have about 5-minutes to decide your future ocean based economic future for the next half-century....

America is the master of the "show of force." I don't know of another military force that can project overwhelming force anywhere like the US military can. As a Canadian, I wish our military was capable of even a fraction of what the American military can do.
remember though, the cost of our unhealthcare is having free healthcare

I absolutely conquer with that statement! I love Fat Electricians story telling ability!
Except the us gets about 5% of its oil from that area. We did what we did because Japan and India were getting 40% of their oil and it was their supply we were protecting
u.S. oil was coming from Venezuela and Mexico. Mideast oil is for Europe and other places.

And won.

Don't mess with our boats...we don't like that.
proportional can mean a lot of things.

The Praying Mantis is a very specific group of insects, its name comes from how it stands perfectly still, as if in prayer or meditation, and its posture.
