  • Ah...the Tamiya Super Sabre. An icon from 1987. This is a kit that Tamiya fans have wanted rereleased for a very long time. When the Tamiya Boomerang was rereleased in 2008 there was hope that the Super Sabre would make its return. Both the Tamiya Boomerang and the Tamiya Super Sabre sit on the very same chassis. The only real difference between the two kits are the body and the colours of the chassis parts. In fact, the Boomerang and the Super Sabre share the exact same chassis and they were the only cars to be released on this chassis. But Tamiya fans waited and still the Super Sabre hadn't been rereleased. Then in 2017, the Tamiya Boomerang was again rereleased..maybe this time we would see the elusive Super Sabre. Again Tamiya fans waited but alas the Super Sabre was not meant to be. Then in the fall of 2023, the rerelease of the Tamiya Super Sabre was announced! It's been 36 years since this car was first released in 1987 and let's just say that I am ecstatic that this kit has finally made it's debut!
The Tamiya Super Sabre was one of the coolest cars to ever come out of the 80's. The body had a futuristic design and looked aggressive just sitting still. As I mentioned, the Tamiya Boomerang and Tamiya Super Sabre are the only two cars that were ever released on this chassis. As such, if you are building a Tamiya Boomerang this upcoming build series on the Super Sabre can be used to help you with your Boomerang build. The instructions will literally be identical.
So, let's get to building this awesome retro 4 wheel drive kit from Tamiya!
In this video, we will do steps 40 to 43 where we will work on the body and the wing.
Throughout the build process, if you have any questions or need clarification on anything, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to assist and wish you great success in assembling this kit. Let's get started!

On one hand I like the job they had done and that the builder still can choose if he likes to have an antenna or the driver. Also great is they did already the paintjob with this not easy colour.
But this is also the reason, why I stepped back from my purchase. I wanted a custom paint.
So I watched the installation of the wing. This was very interesting for me.

I remember when this car came out back in the day and I LOVED the silver look with all the red decals and parts. But this kit was way out of my price range back then. So I was happy it was pre-painted because I knew I wanted to do this box art anyway. But I totally hear ya...they should come out with another kit that isn't pre-painted and give people choices. Most other kits, the Bronco, land cruiser, even the new Fiat on the MB-01 have come out with both so it's surprising on the vintage kits they aren't giving you a choice. The wing on this is a pretty cool design.
