  • It's finally here on the channel!! The NEW Tamiya BBX on the NEW BB-01 Chassis! I just LOVE the look of this car and I think this will be a true performer in the world of Tamiya buggies.
    This has been designed from the ground up! It uses a very strong (and actually quite heavy) plastic base that you then use to build a full roll cage on top of. It's a very very cool design!
    This kit also comes with a FULL set of ball bearings! Thank you Tamiya as most Tamiya kits only come with brass bushings and plastic bearings. So you're going to save some money on upgrading this right off the bat.
    However, please note that I believe this kit is designed for the seasoned R/C enthusiast. Why? Well, if you're a beginner or novice we are used to the kits coming with everything you need to get going minus the transmitter and standard size steering servo. For the BBX, you'll need an ESC (electronic speed controller, motor, and a low profile servo. Furthermore, you'll need to be careful what motor you purchase as not all motors will work due to the length of the pinion shaft that is needed for the BBX. So that's something to watch out for. The big question you'll need to ask yourself is do you use a brushed or brushless system with this car? The jury is still out on that one but my plan is to go with a brushless system. But I'll talk about that more in a later video as I'm still sourcing items I want to complete this kit.
    The other question you'll need to ask yourself is "Do I get the available slipper clutch?" Hmmmmmm...I don't have an answer yet as I'm still working on this question too. Time will tell.
    In this first video of the build series I will explain why it's taken me so long to get started and give you my initial thoughts on the the kit as well as go over what additional items you'll need to buy if you decide to get a BBX for yourself. Then I'll take you through the manual so you know what to expect.
    ************************************************************************
    PLEASE SEE ADDITIONAL INFO BELOW:
    ***********************************************************************
    1. TAMIYA LOW PROFILE SERVO AS SEEN IN VIDEO ABOVE :@45065-tsu06-low-profile-digital-servo-dripproof-type-p-90066428.html - PLEASE NOTE: I have no affiliation with RCJAZ and I earn nothing for sharing this link with you. I simply want you to be aware of where I found a low profile server for an affordable price.
    2. IN THIS VIDEO you hear me use the term NiCAD when referring to the older style "battery packs". Well...that's what I grew up with and it's pretty much stuck with me. However, for the most part, the current "battery packs" are actually NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE BATTERIES (NiMH). All new Tamiya packs or standard 7.2V batteries are NiMH. Back in the day packs would only last about 8-10 minutes of drive time before you had to charge the battery again. Today, there are so many more options and my 2000mAH NiMH pack can give me about 30 minutes of drive time with my stock Grasshopper. Point is battery technology is changing all the time and more long lasting and powerful batteries are in development constantly. There are other differences between NiCAD and NiMH batteries but I'll save the longer explanation for another time.
    3. !!WARNING!! - If you're a new user I personally would NOT suggest using a LiPo battery in this kit. They are dangerous. LiPo batteries require a great deal more care than standard NiMH batteries so please make sure you do your research before deciding on which way to go. And as always, these kits are designed for people 14 and older. WITHOUT PROPER CARE WHEN CHARGING OR DE-CHARGING LiPO BATTERIES, YOU COULD CREATE A FIRE HAZZARD OR AN EXPLOSION OR WORSE SO PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THE DIFFERENT BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES BEFORE DECIDING ON GOING WITH a LiPO BATTERY. LiPO BATTERIES ARE VERY POWERFUL AND WITH THIS POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY!

      You’ll do great! The gearbox right off the bat is a little tricky if you’ve never worked with a ball differential before but once that’s done it should feel a lot easier.

    Nice shout out to RCJazz, I'm in NZ where they are located, they unfortunately have no stock, you may have got the last one. I like the sound of your build and will follow, I have a BBX to build also and understand all the decisions to make. I considered the spare wheel and decided to go for a spoiler instead, I hope it will look good when I finally build it. I have a sports tuned motor also, and an RZ motor but will see if it needs that upgrade first. I did buy a brushless system but after seeing many others install them and cars doing wheelies, I think it may be too much power. I like your retro thinking, maybe as I'm a child of the 80's?

      Thanks! I've ordered from RCJAzz a couple times now and have really been happy with them. I didn't realize they were in NZ!! Very cool. When I got my servo I'm pretty sure they had a number of them in stock...maybe this video caused the issue lol - whoops...sorry about that :) - The wing idea sounds great...I wonder what that will look like...hmmmm...that would definitely give it a retro feel. Yeah I'm excited to see what a retro build will look and handle like...it's been a challenge so far but I'm determined to make this work. It's taken me forever to get the build done as a result so I'm happy to finally be releasing some. But you're right about power too...there comes a point where the enjoyment of driving a car disappears because you've made the car too fast to even enjoy the look of it..lol - so I'm a retro guy too! Thanks for watching and great to connect with you.

    I decided to get the green Grasshopper in Japan over a BBX as I can get them in Malaysia. The BBX was 197 USD at Super Rajikon and the hop ups available was very tempting so next trip I will pick one up.

      Very cool...great choice! and wow...that's a great price for the BBX. In Canada the retail price is over $400CDN at most shops. Some sell them for a little less but not much.

    Subbed for that cool little cartoon of yourself holding the rc control. its actually really well done.
    When i was 6-7 my uncle built an OG Hornet with a custom made wooden box for it, best Christmas ever, just do not go anywhere near water with it, blew fuses like Hulk hogan.

    • @FastFreddyRC
      @FastFreddyRC  Месяц назад

      Thanks James! Appreciate it! I was really happy with how that cartoon came together - What did the wooden box look like? Sounds like that was pretty cool to have. I think the new ESC's and radio receivers are pretty good with dealing with water these days. I wouldn't drive through anything deep but I think if it was just a wet road you should be fine. I had the Blackfoot as my first kit back in the day and it seemed to handle water ok...but it did have a lot more ground clearance than the hornet so maybe that saved me from frying the electronics.

      @jamesvozar1 Месяц назад

      @@FastFreddyRC It was quite basic like a really big cigar box that fitted the car,radio and all the spares in. Love the Blackfoot, have always wanted an RC monster truck but still to this day have never had one.
      Hows this, the guys at my local RC place stole my Hornet with the box and told me it was a 'break in'. Who does that to a seven year old kid right?

    I dig the vintage project build 😉 Honestly, not sure about the TSU-06 (plastic gear, no ball bearing) 🤔 I don't know the price in beautiful Canada, but maybe have a look at the JX PDI-4409MG 🤝
