Tamiya Toyota Supra on the BT-01 Chassis - Steps 15 & 16 - Building and Attaching the Rear Uprights
Is the BT-01 Chassis anything special? Well let's find out!
In this video I will go over steps 15 and 16 where we will build and attach the rear uprights.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
If you're a beginner to the world of Tamiya R/C cars I don't think this kit is going to be for you. By choosing to go with a design that can be configured in multiple ways, Tamiya have chosen to go with multiple instruction manuals that don't stand alone. You have to refer to the different ones as you go along with the build process. I'm not a fan of this type of setup as it can be easy to make a mistake and find that you have to go back steps to fix things if you did something wrong. So to avoid any confusion, I wil...

    Hi, thanks for this series, I've been watching it all day ahead of me attempting my very first RC (TT02D) build. I noticed you didn't place the sponge tape that goes under the servo, and the manual in my TT02D kit actually indicates the grease symbol for the ball bearings. Im building the R33 skyline drift spec, and my manual's code is 11053769

    • @FastFreddyRC
      @FastFreddyRC 2 дня назад

      You’re welcome! I’m glad it’s been helpful…and thank you for the manual code for yours. I searched it out and the one I found doesn’t show the grease symbols for the ball bearings. However, for me personally, even if it did I never grease the bearings as it causes dirt and grime to build up and then the bearings don’t function as well. I just choose not to grease ball bearings. As to the sponge tape…my manual doesn’t show any sponge tape and the manual I found online with your manual code didn’t show it either. So I’m not sure why yours has it. If my manual had shown me sponge tape I definitely would have used it. So if yours is saying you should then I would definitely build it that way.

    • @seraajroomaney3148
      @seraajroomaney3148 День назад

      @FastFreddyRC I've subscribed, I find your way of explaining the steps is the easiest way for me to follow. The sponge tape is actually in your manual on one of your videos, (step 28, time 4:02, bottom right). I also double checked, my manual does show the lube tube at the bearings, Im not mentioning this to criticise you not lubing your bearings, btw, but rather pointing out differences in tamiya manuals, do you have an email as I'd like to send you pictures of my manual to show what I'm referring to

    • @FastFreddyRC

      @@seraajroomaney3148 Thank you for subscribing and wow…great catch on the sponge tape!! So for some reason I forgot to explain why I left it out! Because I was using the yeah racing rack I didn’t want the sponge tape interfering with the smoothness of the steering. My other TT02’s do have the sponge tape and it basically sits under the servo saver after you’ve screwed in the servo. I think it’s primarily designed to stop dirt and debris getting under the servo and jamming the servo arm. But as this is a TT02D I’m not planning on using it anywhere that isn’t a hard clean surface (road, skatepark, parking lot etc) so I decided not to use it. So again great catch!! But feel free to use the sponge tape as you see fit. My email is on my home page in the channel description but if you can’t find it just let me know.

    • @FastFreddyRC
      @FastFreddyRC 3 дня назад

      Are you wanting all 4 wheels to stick out? If so your best bet is to buy wheels with a higher offset. That might be the easiest way of doing it. There are also hub extenders you can buy but I think the wheel option is better. The kit itself does have a couple plastic wheel extenders that are designed for say Porsche models where the rear sticks out further than the front. But the kit only comes with two.

      You’re welcome! Glad they were helpful. And that’s a great question…the left over parts on the M parts tree are not used for the Holiday Buggy. In your instruction manual at the back you’ll find pictures of the parts trees and all the parts you mentioned are greyed out meaning they aren’t to be used. A lot of the time Tamiya uses the same parts trees for multiple kits so some parts are actually for other kits and visa versa.

      Awesome John…I do love the look of these cars. Actually most cars were better looking in the old days. Every brand had a unique style that could be spotted for miles. Now all cars look the same and the only distinguishing difference is the logo. I think jaguars were the last car to hold out before even they went to the same boring look of everything else. It’s a shame really. My favourite car growing up was the Toyota Celica Supra. The wheel arches were much like the Opel and it looked very aggressive just sitting still. Tamiya seems to be on a Celica kick right now with their TT02 chassis. I really want them to bring out the Celica Supra :)

      Thanks Trey! It's worth pointing out as I think if you're not familiar with the building process you may not realize that there are different plastics in every kit. If it's your first build the last thing you're going to be happy with is stripping out one of the screw holes.

    I wonder if the grub screws are for adjusting the ride height may be? 🤔🤔

      Good point Glenn. As I'm now further into the build I would say that that's EXACTLY what they are for. But I'm not quite sure how they operate yet...I'll have to see when I get the shocks and wheels on. They don't have a rubber bumper on them so if they end up touching the frame it seems like a hard hit. I'll know more soon...

      @@FastFreddyRC ah, good to know. Looking forward to watching the rest. Having to watch them 2 or 3 times occassionally as I keep missing certain things 🤣

      Agreed!! Don’t see any reason why they couldn’t do it…so let’s hope so!!

      It’s definitely not the easiest way of doing it.

    Freddy thank you, I always wanted a Grasshopper as a kid in the '80's and recently bought one for my son's birthday. Never having built an R/C car before I was slightly intimidated with the build, having your videos step by step all the way through has helped loads. I''ve just finished and the car looks and drives great!

      Hi James! Thank you for sending me this...awesome! The Grasshopper is such a great car. Glad to hear it's operating as it's supposed to!! Nice work! That gearbox is pretty much bulletproof so your son should get years of worry free driving out of it.
