  • One of the greatest car movies of all time was 'The Fast and the Furious', the original movie in the franchise. Vin Diesel's character, Dom, was first introduced to us driving a red tricked out Mazda RX7 including Nitrous! Not only that, but like most of the cars in that movie, Dom's car had a really cool graphics package!
Well...it's time to build a movie car!!
In this video we will do steps 36 to the end
For the TT02D, the 'D' stands for DriftSpec so this car is also on Tamiya's TT02 Drift Chassis. I'm stoked to have this car in my hands because there are a number of included hop up items that I know you're going to enjoy.
As this is a DRIFTSPEC car, it drives differently and therefore requires certain 'hop-up' items in order for the car to perform properly. With Tamiya's TT02D chassis, Tamiya includes a number of hop-ups that you would normally have to purchase separately.
I believe all drift cars from Tamiya, including mine, include....
A full set of ball bearings
A Tamiya Aluminum Motor Heat Sink
    A Sport-tuned Motor
    Oil filled CVA shocks
But the Mazda RX7 also includes the LED light kit for front and rear tail lights! This light kit alone is worth about $80CDN so buying a drift car as your first TT02 chassis gives you a lot of hop-up items that would cost you a lot if you bought them all separately. So a drift kit is well worth the $$$.
So what about the decals to make this car truly look like Dom's RX7? Well...I've got this covered as well. On EBAY I found a guy that does 1/10th decal sheets specifically for Dom's Mazda RX7 so this car is going to be a true replica of the movie car!
So let's get building! Be sure to subscribe and get the notifications so that you'll know when I release each of the steps!

I like that they've this wide "noses". Should give some extra stability in the connection

It's true! I actually really love the TT-02 Chassis. So many things about it that stand out as a great car that you can easily hop up. Honestly with all the new chassis being released what I'd really like to see is a TT-03?

Hi, thanks for this series, I've been watching it all day ahead of me attempting my very first RC (TT02D) build. I noticed you didn't place the sponge tape that goes under the servo, and the manual in my TT02D kit actually indicates the grease symbol for the ball bearings. Im building the R33 skyline drift spec, and my manual's code is 11053769

You’re welcome! I’m glad it’s been helpful…and thank you for the manual code for yours. I searched it out and the one I found doesn’t show the grease symbols for the ball bearings. However, for me personally, even if it did I never grease the bearings as it causes dirt and grime to build up and then the bearings don’t function as well. I just choose not to grease ball bearings. As to the sponge tape…my manual doesn’t show any sponge tape and the manual I found online with your manual code didn’t show it either. So I’m not sure why yours has it. If my manual had shown me sponge tape I definitely would have used it. So if yours is saying you should then I would definitely build it that way.

@FastFreddyRC I've subscribed, I find your way of explaining the steps is the easiest way for me to follow. The sponge tape is actually in your manual on one of your videos, (step 28, time 4:02, bottom right). I also double checked, my manual does show the lube tube at the bearings, Im not mentioning this to criticise you not lubing your bearings, btw, but rather pointing out differences in tamiya manuals, do you have an email as I'd like to send you pictures of my manual to show what I'm referring to

@@seraajroomaney3148 Thank you for subscribing and wow…great catch on the sponge tape!! So for some reason I forgot to explain why I left it out! Because I was using the yeah racing rack I didn’t want the sponge tape interfering with the smoothness of the steering. My other TT02’s do have the sponge tape and it basically sits under the servo saver after you’ve screwed in the servo. I think it’s primarily designed to stop dirt and debris getting under the servo and jamming the servo arm. But as this is a TT02D I’m not planning on using it anywhere that isn’t a hard clean surface (road, skatepark, parking lot etc) so I decided not to use it. So again great catch!! But feel free to use the sponge tape as you see fit. My email is on my home page in the channel description but if you can’t find it just let me know.

@FastFreddyRC not sure why my previous reply isn't showing but I can't find your e mail address, please send so that I can send you pictures of my manual and get your opinion on why theres a difference in manuals for essentially the same kit.
