Paschendale is a village outside Ypres in Belgium where several large battles were fought during the first world war. My grandfather fought there and survived the carnage of three major offensives.
WW1, not 2. One of the deadliest battles in that war. The Great War for GB. Every village has its memorial place with the names of ‘their’ boys on it. So the English Iron Maiden boys must have grown up with that memory of horror.
Probably already mentioned, the live version of this song from the Death on the Road DVD is pretty incredible. Well worth seeing, it's one you would point someone to that isn't familiar with Maiden's studio or live work.
If instruments could make a movie, those 3 guitar solos together with the lyrics perfectly paints a picture in your mind. Such meaningless slaughter. A whole generation of Europes children ground down in the mud and trenches.
Recommendation: Sabaton - The Christmas Truce This band writes about accurate history and this song above is amazing. Trust me, you will be a fan I wish lex would get back into this. You can see the music flowing through her. I

Incredible song. One of their best!
Their greatest new era song

Or like Sabaton put in in Price of a mile.
"6 miles ground has been won, half a million lives are gone".
Absolutely great choice. Thanks Brad.
Battle of Passchendaele was actually WWI.
Great reaction.
I feel like you would have hated this song a few years ago.
Good to see you are expanding your musical palette \m/\m/.
Epic as usual

I hope this vid isn't taken down.
Why would it be?
I remember when you didn't like metal, I suspect you are a Maiden fan at this point, at least a little bit..
