Street Fair & Barn Shopping for Fun, Fascinating Vintage & Antiques!

- This weekend brings back a decades-long tradition of antiquing fun in one of America's most unique and distinctive small towns, and it's a real party! It's a street fair, a tractor meet, an antique show, amazing shops and a wonderful, convivial after-show gathering, all in one event!
We give you a taste of it all in this video, with our first stop the first morning of the antique street fair in the centuries-old town of New Harmony, one of America's original utopian communities in the southwest corner of Indiana. The beautiful buildings and their antique shops spill out into the streets for this event, along with a bevy of other dealers from the region. We go shopping as they unpack, until a shiny old fire truck grabs our eye...
That truck once resided inside Firehouse Antiques, where the new owners of this century-old historic structure have filled it even more, and made it even more authentic! During our appraisal fair break, we talk to them about their vividly graphic, vibrant shop where a lot of rather valuable advertising signs are augmented with Jadeite glass, 1960s toys, old paper ephemera, street signs and more surprises.
As the appraisal fair winds down, we get a quick peek at the space-age banks in Cindy Smotherman's booth, down the road from the barn where this show promoter and her husband moved from Firehouse when they sold it. We're invited to their barn party, and between rounds of amazing brisket and live music, we get to shop and tour a 19th century barn with a lot of great 20th century signage, corbels and tools, a huge iron scale and a showcase full of fun little items!
When the party ends, we go back to our lovely and comfortable room at the New Harmony Inn & Resort and take a moment to talk about the haul we got just browsing through all those wonderful places on our breaks from conducting the appraisal fair. Fun people, a great respite and wonderful treatment remind me why I'm so glad to get to do this again this year, and I look forward to taking you along with me!

Thank you! You are a friendly genius in your field!
Dear George ; You truly are living the dream . And you deserve it. The work you put in and your shows keep everyone up to date with current trends and prices. Enjoy the ride !
I'm so glad! I sure like to share what I show
Thanks for taking us on your adventures!
My grandma, who was part Native American, signature quilt was the “squaw quilt” , she sold many many many , and family members just about fought over them. We now call them doll quilts.
That's very interesting to know! I imagine the origins of the word were not considered until recently
Thanks George❤
Really great show! Thanks George!
I would've have loved this sale.
Some people are so gifted with decorating talents.
Very nice exhibits and stores.
Loved this video.
Mahalo George.
Great video George! Very enjoyable.
Many thanks!
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
I remember the Mint Casino, my Aunt used to deal Black Jack there back in the 70's. How fun this was. You have a wonderful day and stay safe
George love this adventure I can not impress up on you how much I learn every time!😊
I really am happy to share and hope to keep finding new territory to show!
I learned how to drive in a 1965 Cadillac Coup deville.
Hi, Cat! Those were good looking for their day--and huge!
What a fun trip!!
I love doing markets !! I love being able to talk shop and talk about finds and leaning things from each other very few of my friends or family are really into it or appreciate vintage or antiques
I totally agree!
Love this haul. Jewelry is quite stunning!
George, remember I told you I found a Christian Dior mini display chair? Even with some beads missing, we paid only $3 and it sold for $105 plus shipping. Yay!
Loved that the FENTON truck drove by in the video!
Nice score on the Dior! That's great. It was funny to see the Fenton truck, I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out by my viewers lol
Hi George love the video thanks for taking us along! Maybe you'll do another estate sale in florida again. And see definitely you are living the dream, one that many wish they were I know I do 🙂
All the commercial stuff you know amazes me. So much stuff to look at , real neat signage. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Nice to hear the dealer talking with you.
I hope you make it farther north, sometime, to Centerville IN. on US 40. It has a huge antique mall. Lots of items for your travels!
Thanks for the tips!
Hey George! Your knowledge blows me away. Awesome finds! Thanks for taking us along ❤
Boy you sure get around 😂😊ty for the ride
You bet!
George absolutely love your videos, huge fan here! There is a yearly town wide antique sale in Niles Canyon Ca(the first Hollywood its been claimed) have you ever attended that town sale and if so what was it like? I neither sell nor buy antiques but I love love love your videos...alot of this stuff reminds me of my grandfolks and that brings me great joy so thank you George!
I haven't been to that sale, I've been to the four big flea markets in the state but I've missed a lot of others and want to go back! I'm so happy to hear that someone watches who isn't strictly into the commercial aspect of antiques and vintage, I really want people to understand our past and our mutual connections through the old stuff that reminds us of how life has been
@The Antique Nomad thank you George! I love your videos, they are so relaxing to me and I truly enjoy them so much. My grandma and grandpa had alot of stuff my goodness. Coming from the Depression era they saved everything. I lived right next door to them,us grandkids had Lincoln Logs,Tinker toys and Legos,Slinkies, crayons and old coloring books ...tons of other old timey toys to play with. I had no idea I was so lucky! My grandma didn't have the best eye for collectibles tho. She saved Avon bottles like they were solid gold😄
Keep on with your videos ...I'm just loving what you do! ❤️
The scissor brooch would also be perfect for a hairdresser! I know they're not exactly hair cutting shears, but it's the main tool of a hairdresser and the brooch is just lovely! Wish you'd make it over to Lexington sometime, a lot of new places have popped up recently! As always, love the channel, you are the best teacher and I learn so much as I am a lifelong collector and aspiring reseller.
I'm in Ohio but you're still 346 miles away from me. Sorry I won't get to see you this time George.
Understood but darn!
Maybe Springfield Ohio this year! I just would love to meet you.
REO Speedwagon is playing at American Adventures in Valdosta this weekend June 10. Did not know they got the name from a fire engine.
I think their very first album (before they were big) has an old ad print of an REO Speedwagon in truck form
REO made a lot more than fire engines.
I am a proud Sr.77 and I would still like to see REO!!🎉
Great video! I always love seeing Indiana, even though that is far south from where I grew up.
Hi George. I really like your videos and am learning a lot. Is Kanawha glass/pottery from Kanawha County, WV? If so, the people who live there pronounce it with 2 syllables, can-NAH, not can-NAH-wah. 😊
I hope we’ll meet for real one day 😎
I live in Poplar Bluff MO and Call of the Wild was built by a big game hunter who displayed the dead animals. When he died the building was sold to a "gentleman's club" aka strip club and adult store which both still operate.
That is most interesting! Quite a progression
I have a Sylvac dog.
I hope to meet you some day to have you check something i have. I think im the only one that has one. Lol
Me too!
Royal Doulton is pronounced Wrong by you😮 you pronounce it like doll and it's supposed to be more like dual PS I've seen them through the factory This Is How They pronounce it😮 it's tempting to pronounce it like the Dalton Gang but it's not even spoke like that😮
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
