I've been subscribed to you for a while now and I still can't believe how little attention your content gets even though it's so good. Keep it up. Your videos are very nice to watch.
Dear Maria, I have been watching your videos for a while now, and you truly inspire me to be more productive. Your passion for art, the advice you provide, and the paintings you create are exceptional. You have an elegant lifestyle and artistic sensibility; your minimalist approach is truly inspiring. I feel very fortunate to have come across your channel!
Your comment literally got me out of bed this morning, thank you so much Ayse for the thoughtful and kind words! It's nice to hear what exactly is impactful to people so I can keep providing that. I'm really glad you found the channel also and are enjoying it. 😊💛
Thank you for sharing your artistic journey with us. One of the many things I like about art is that there are as many different artistic journeys as there are people; each walks a unique path in the practice of their craft.
I have been watching RUclips artists and yours is incredible! I stopped drawing for about a decade now (also not being consistent during that time) but I have been thinking of going back... and I felt culture-shocked by everything that has changed in the artist field.😅
Thank you! I think the content we watch should actually move us to create also, not just consume. Hopefully you can find a way back into drawing more or whatever you love! And oh yes things are always changing 😅
The discussion on how you came to find your personal direction in art was fascinating! We should all spend as much time and effort in self-reflection and trying to understand what makes us an artist; how we wish this whole thing to unfold to bring forth the most fruit. You've given us lots to think about. Thank you.
Really loved your process! Like a carpenter…measure twice and cut once! I see so many artists that rely on tracing their images (not a dig….just that drawing is such an important fundamental.) I understand the need to speed things up since time is money, but if you have the luxury of time to ‘get it right’ then take it! Since I primarily paint watercolor portraits, the drawing is the key. Often times the drawing process takes 30-40 hours alone before finally transferring it the paper. I use a ruler of mm’s, compass, pencil, skewers, relative measurements and angles etc. to check my freehand work. The other benefit is that I always have the underlying drawing available to re-do it or try it in pastel pencils. Keep at it!
You are an amazing artist! I wish I had your patience when it comes to all of the details and planning. Also, I’m so happy to see someone REAL making vlogs.
Thank you so much for sharing your progress and thoughts with us. I really like the way you're presenting your art. Keep going your work deserves great reward!
When I watched your video early this morning you turned a smile on my face . Thank you for explaining so thoroughly about the underpainting /drawing method and your personal view . I appreciate you put in so much time and energy , I really felt heard 👂🙏 I became a painter after I finished art school in Stage - and hHistorical costume design and for this I used also the ruler method to enlarge historical costume patterns who were only published in old books in a very tiny scale . To design for stage we needed to learn to draw to visualizing our ideas and so I came into life drawing studies and portraiture and the next step and before I knew I was into painting ... so indeed you never know in advance where your path is leading you but that makes life exiting , isn't it? , and yes with ups and downs . I now use the grid or life /eye size method , it is time consuming but for me this way of 'detailed' underdrawing gives me value and fulfillment and I love details , these days everything seems to be need to go 'fast' but for me I want to feel FREE and do everything on my own pace as In my opinion that s what last the longest without burning out yourself , so I loved when you said 'my self imposed deadline' 😉. I heard you saying how "easy" it is to be influenced by others who's work you/I/we admire but in the end sticking to our authentic self is a sign of strength the hard way maybe but the most important , believe in yourself and keep on going (I tell myself too 😉). Again Thank you !!
I really enjoyed reading your comment and hearing more of your perspective Debora. That is such an interesting path to art you've had also. Studying design leaves an impact on people it seems like, we all decide to design our own creations in the end. 😂 It does make life exciting, and rich and unique. I totally understand the desire for freedom over fastness. If we are blessed to find something we enjoy giving our time and attention to, then by all means we have to give in. Art can teach us a lot about life it seems. 😊 keep taking your time, all the time you can get 💫
i really enjoy your videos! I would love to have that patience to prepare my paintings ahahah! I'm still trying to understand my working method sometimes I get a little overwhelmed and give up for no apparent reason... maybe i want to see quick results... idk... Anyway, your videos always inspire me, keep the good work :)
You'll find what works for you and it'll feel more worthwhile to push through, keep going! I get overwhelmed as well, it's a part of caring a lot about what we make. Thank you for watching, I'm glad it's helping a bit to inspire you 💛
Hello Maria, I love your paintings and your videos! I can really relate to all that you tell about the creative process and the real life of a painter. I paint also, although not full time. your style snd technique are magnificent, but the subjects I like are similar to yours . I am pretty glad about having found your chanel. Greetings from Germany! Looking forward for other videos!
I have been enjoying watching your videos. I have a question. I am in the process of painting, a picture of a house. Looking for any tips on how to paint fine detail lines.
Try lettering brushes, something with a longer set of bristles. That helps. Sometimes I hold up a piece of cardstock or heavy paper as a guide to follow for delicate lines.
I love your videos, your content it’s very interesting,,I didn’t know this method of measuring, I like to oil paint ,,just for my own happiness…happy holidays from Mexico
Love seeing the process and behind the scenes as you transition a work between its different stages. Have you considered using a projector to transfer onto the canvas?
Have you tried using an art projector to get the image on the canvas? Some people say it’s cheating. It certainly does help speed up the process. Great videos by the way. Keep up the great work.
I've used projectors for larger projects, I don't prefer it. If I was concerned with speed and didn't require as much accuracy I would use it. Thanks for the comment.
loved this inside look at your process! you’ve become one of my favorites to watch in the art space. great choice to switch to the bigger mirror ❤ a small piece of feedback-the jump cuts while you’re speaking are a bit jarring when the rest of the video is slow and relaxing, I don’t think you need to cut out so much of the silence. also love the creative J/L cuts and your use of lighting 😊
I have binge watched all your videos! Just love your style and what you do! Also just a question, what is the background noise around 17:45… and throughout when you’re chatting?
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying my work :) Haha sorry about that, it's my camera, either from the auto focus being noisy or because I've dropped it a few times.. hopefully a new mic at some point will help
@@mariasisul hahaha aaah that makes sense! I always think it’s my fridge being extra loud and I panic and then realise it’s your video 🤣 anyway keep up the amazing work! 😁💜
Sure, I'll try to speak a bit about it in a video when I can. Mostly I edit and compose my references in photoshop. Then I open the image in procreate on my iPad while painting to zoom in and out, checks hues and values while I make decisions, etc. But I like to have printed references as well. When you color pick in photoshop or procreate you can see more info about a color, this can be helpful for mixing if it's the approach you want to take.
Hi, I love your art and subject matter, excellent. Can I offer a suggestion to cut your under drawing time down, break your canvas size down into a4 sections, 1 to 8 say, print off each section, then overdraw each print in it's section ONTOP of carbon copy paper, you'll get your time down to a morning, some will say cheating, I call it accurousy.

Your videos are as artful and emotional as your art. There is so much feeling in both. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I'm so glad you think so, I would like these videos to be art in their own way. Thank you for being here :)
I love your newer work (past few years), every one of your paintings make me feel nostalgic for some reason
Thank you, I do too, I've definitely grown 😅 I am very nostalgic, I suppose that's seeped in accidentally 💛

Yay for Pan Dulce! I love seeing your progress and now I understand why your paintings do look so life like. ❤
Pan dulce is everything! 😁 I'm so glad you enjoy seeing the process. Oh yes, it's a tedious thing but I love it💛
I love how I can apply your advise to my own passions, it's very inspiring!! And Mr. Banana plant is in the Christmas spirit 🎄🎅
I love to hear that Heidi!! I always hope it's useful for other areas of interest 😁 Mr. Banana plant is dressed up to show off to everyone here 😂

I use my projector for much larger and more organic references. Glad you enjoy seeing the work process. 😊
just wonderful. my girlfriend just shared your channel with me and i'm amazed. your work is increadible! keep going, please!
I'm so happy to hear that, thank you! I'm glad you are both enjoying it 😊
Love watching your video's!! A question What kind of wood panels do you use to make your paintings on? Love from Holland
Thanks for watching! I usually make my own out of Birch Plywood. Sometimes I'll purchase them, those are either bass wood or birch also.
Have you tried using an art projector to get the image on the canvas? Some people say it’s cheating. It certainly does help speed up the process. Great videos by the way. Keep up the great work.

I wondered do you take the reference images yourself or just find them in magazines or ie Pinterest ? Love love love your paintings!
I take my own reference images now. A few years ago I would use some from other photographers. Maybe pinterest for sketches. And thank you! 😊
Can you please show how you use your computer to help you paint? Do you zoom in to section and does photoshop help you ID colors and mix colors?

What is the book about authenticity that you mentioned?
Authentic by Stephen Joseph :)
