flow state of a painter *simple art vlog

  • Time for color! I recently spent my days blocking in the first layer of this painting. At the beginning I struggled to get into it, with a lot of questions in my head. Buy some reading, new ideas and research on the side helped to quite me internally. And the flow state that followed was much better. It's always hard to begin. Looking at a piece full of many days work can feel unreal, done by elves even. But each simple day in the studio adds up and the magic happens by shaking hands with reality.
    I left this art vlog a bit more open for your own personal thoughts and experience of flow. A reminder of the easiness and peace we get from finding our own zone of work. Hopefully you can find some inspiration or contentment in it. 😁
    best of luck in whatever you're working on!

    I love your work and process. I find it quite soothing as I struggle to develop my own practice in my doctoral studies. It's hard - this business of plodding along toward many unknowns just armed with purpose and hard work. Anyway, I think you're an inspiration. Keep going and posting as long as you're willing. Also, while I live in England, I worked in NZ a long time ago and fell inlove with the art of Grahame Sydney. I think you may like his work. We have driven along the Otago roads and scenery he paints, all manner of landscapes in South Island. Many worlds to be explored. He is awesome and so are you! Your work reminds me of his somehow. Also, Vilhelm Hammershoi - his interior spaces are breathtaking. All the best!

      I really appreciated your comment! It is hard to create when there is no real end in sight. For art and these videos, but like you said, we plod on. 😅 Thanks for sharing the artist names as well, I like Grahame Sydney, his work captures a spirit similar to where I grew up, that kind of quiet and still beauty. Vilhelm has some wonderful compositions also. Good luck with your studies!

    This was so soothing! I could only dream to one day to paint even an ounce as great as you. I especially love the slow close-up shots of the brush and the zoomed out shot of the snow outside - so pretty ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

    Your pond looks fantastic! With how dry it was this year, none of my usual spots have standing water to freeze over. That might change this week when the 2 feet of snow we got last weekend melt. 😂

    The painting is coming along nicely Maria!
    I read ‘Spring cannot be cancelled’ by David Hockney and Martin Gayford some time ago and I’ve been jealous of his mindset ever since. I recognize a lot of that joyful and playful mindset in your paintings and videos too, and now that I saw you ice skating in your backyard I remembered that I am a bit jealous of you too.
    All the love, Thuban. 🤙

      I looked up that book as soon as I saw your comment. It's very nice so far! I don't have that mindset everyday but I try to. I think play is necessary even if it's not in the studio. 😊
      Thanks for sharing you thoughts!

    I really enjoy your tight style of painting. The one thing that helped me was to have 2 or 3 different styles of painting going at once. It becomes less like work and more like play and I can keep painting for 6- 12 hrs at a time. I got rid of the caffeine this year and that caused much greater staying power and higher quality of sleep. I suggest a full research on how caffeine really effects people's lives and health. Iv'e been painting for over 40 years. I learned that pushing to paint and learn styles other than my main focus really helps my main focus.

    I have been itching to see the progress on this one. Raw layers are so interesting. When the light passes through them they have the effect of a stain glass window almost. They get painted over in the long run, and it's weird, but you miss them a touch, once they're buried deep.
    I really like that quote: "I have always painted, good, bad or indifferent - and I always will." That kind of thinking is like a shot in the arm. You wake up, and keep going at it until all the value judgments on colour produce an end goal. Keep going Maria, it is looking so promising.
    I bet the dog appreciates the fixed toy also.
    P.s- I am rubbish at skating, good lord.

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  4 месяца назад

      I also love those initial layers, I'm still trying to find a way to leave some of it raw in final pieces, but I haven't found a method I'm satisfied with yet. It really is a fantastic quote. And yes Canela loved having her toy without stuffing falling out! 😂 Thank you for your comment!

      Thank you Natascha! I'm using acrylic. Princeton Velvetouch brushes and a wide range of Utrecht artist acrylics. Ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, medium grey and azo yellow orange are some of my 'must-have' colors. ♥️ Always lots of questioning over here in the studio😁😅

    I noticed you were using a Princeton watercolour brush, what is the reasoning behind that?

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  4 месяца назад

      Their veveletouch brushes are intended for oil, acrylic or watercolor! They have a great synthetic filament that holds paint well and I like the spring quality. I use the same stroke brush for a majority of my work, I'm obsessed with it. 😁

    The pond looks great and so much fun.
    I saw this YT video on transferring a photo to a drawing to the canvas, and thought it might interest you......... ruclips.net/video/GHqm6szxABs/видео.html. Personally I would skip the gridding, and save the jpg to an ext hard drive attached to my iPad and then attach the hard drive to a small projector (like $50-80 on AZ) and then project that to my surface and draw in the lines.
