Tony Award nominee, Emmy winner and newly-minted Grammy nominee Liz Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. She has gone on to star in Baby, Miss Saigon, The Look of Love, The Three Musketeers, and for 5 years appeared as Grizabella in Cats. Off-Broadway credits include The Spitfire Grill (Drama Desk nomination), Marry Me a Little, and Brownstone. She also appeared in A Stephen Sondheim Evening, the legendary Follies in Concert at Lincoln Center, and “Inside the Actor’s Studio: Stephen Sondheim.” Regional and international credits include the one-person play Every Brilliant Thing, Dot in Sunday in the Park with George, Eva Peron in Evita, Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, and the European premiere of Sondheim on Sondheim at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Liz sang the Academy Award-nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature Anastasia. Other film work includes Jasmine in the two Aladdin sequels, The Swan Princess, Beauty and the Beast, and The Rewrite with The Hugh Grant. Her extensive concert and symphony career has included appearances in London, Paris, Iceland, Vietnam, Australia, China and nearly every major city in the U.S. She performs regularly with her sister Ann Hampton Callaway, as well as composer Stephen Schwartz, and has had the great pleasure of singing with Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams and the legendary Johnny Mathis. The Grammy-nominated “To Steve With Love: Liz Callaway Celebrates Sondheim” marks her eighth solo recording.
Liz Callaway's voice is perfection...to sing the same two songs almost just like she did over 20 years ago is so miraculous and inspirational truly..she is hitting and holding all those high nights just like 20 plus years ago and what is also incredible is she is doing this live not in a studio for the original movie...the delivery of both songs and how well she emotes the feelings of both songs is unparalleled . She has that inexplicable unique quality that separates her from others who have sung this song...a vocal and emotive complete purity that comes across and can uplift and transport the listener of the songs immediately. When i heard the songs originally, i stopped and was so moved..it was heavenly. There is such positivity in her voice and truly appreciated during these times.

As one commenter said, many have sung this subsequently but your version has that something extra..its like a perfect marriage between voice and song . I love Liz Callaway's voice! Especially in the Swan Princess. She and Lea Salonga are just beyond incredible. Their voices are powerful and they don't need to belt out to prove it. I wish I could be just like them.....someday
As you know, Liz, my dear husband brought home “Journey to the Past” for me to learn; he was there for my entire adoption journey to find my birth family and recognized me in it immediately. It’s one of my go-to audition pieces. And “Once Upon a December” makes me think of my late mother-in-law and her battle with early onset Alzheimer’s.
I appreciate your telling this and how the songs have impacted you in a personal way.
What is truly miraculous about Liz Callaway's performance here is that she is about 56 years old if this was 8 years ago and she hits all the high notes and holds them perfectly and she sounds almost identical to what she sounded like 20 years ago! So many singers lose part of their voices and can't hit and hold the high notes in their fifties...truly amazing to witness such a performance that sound just like the songs from 20 years ago and live also not at the studio.
