      I always figured these types of things would have problems with durability. Anytime you add in complexity and moving parts, it also adds another point of failure. And also cost, probably. And unless you're really short on space, I doubt they're worth it. But I've watched a ton of van life videos, and even those people don't really use these collapsible kitchen things.

      @@SobrietyandSolace we have collapsible laundry baskets so no chemicals or heat and after about 6 months the corners start to split. it's just from the silicone being folded and unfolded over and over and over again. it's not so much what's being used on it, just how frequently it's being used and the quality of the silicone

    The kettle will keep turning itself on as the element cools back down again. It means you can’t just give the water another quick blast to bring it back up to boiling and you also have to remember to switch it off before you leave the house with your morning coffee. It’s a little annoying, definitely had the lid pop open on a slightly aggressive pour, but I still use it every day. All the other collapsible silicon accessories are great as long as the silicon walls are sturdy enough to support their weight. I’ve got them all and a few others and they’re mostly pretty good

    Re: the scale.
    You can zero it out, which means you could put a plate on it to create a base for bowls and such, giving you the same surface area to work with as a modern scale using only material you would already be storing on-hand in any living situation... which makes the scale more versatile than if you used it by itself.

    I bought one of the folding kettles a few years back for when we are travelling and staying in hotels. During the pandemic, hotels stopped serving coffee in the office in the morning, so having this little gizmo in our bags, along with some tea, coffee and sugar and voila, coffee in the morning. I've had no problems at all with it and would recommend it.

    6:00 The reason for that limescale isn’t necessarily because it doesnt stick but it is related. You’ll notice the cup at 5:43 doesn’t have limescale. It’s just that the limescale filter is attached to the lid, so it worked fine for the first cup, but not for the second because it opened and a lot of limescale went through the top with no filter.

  • @roxanneklinger3828
    @roxanneklinger3828 Год назад +36

    Unless you used bottled water for your little silicon kettle, you may always have a lime scale issue. I like the soft silicon sides but also not so sure about how flimsy it can get. And if you need to plug it in it may not be so good for camping... could use a battery. I love the bottle with all the gadgets in it. But I think my favorites are the fold up cutting boards, strainer, and the fold up whisk. I do not have a drawer deep enough to put a regular whisk into. Those cooking utensils have to sit in a crock on the counter top. Some great ideas here.

    I bought the same kettle for traveling. And as we had a bus tour, I took it with me. And it was a great enjoyment to have evening tea with it! I have a collapsible funnel, and I find it to be on the too small side, but it's still good to own because I don't need a funnel that often, i may even look for a bigger collapsible one. I have a giant collapsible basin (idk, maybe 20 litres volume), and it just sits there snugly beside my washing machine until it's needed; otherwise I'd have no place for a conventional basin, but now I can have this giant tub and it's so beautifully flat when not needed! I do have a collander too, but it's the least necessary of my collapsible items, because I also have all these other collanders and strainers I really like, and they just stack one into another.
    As long as these items are fully functional and easily washable (which they are), lots of them can be good, especially those which combine being used rarely and taking all the space in cupboards when not used. Kitchenware with combined functions like that basin+board is rarely better than having two items separately. For those which you use daily, less gimmicky seems to be the better, like cutting boards and knives - the simpler is the better. Even with this example of scales: for those who uses them often, a compromise of having flat digital scale might be better. But if your kitchen is truly tiny, the collapsible option may win even with them being abit fiddly.

    I think the collapsible board is for washing vegetables after you cut them ,like after you cut a bunch of potatoes you just pop the edge up and add water to remove starches or to wash off dirt from cabbages and such.
    Sure you can use it for dishes but you have a sink for a reason.
    Conclusion
    I think you use it to hold vegetables in water
    Without using a bowl or using the "dirty" sink

And answer your question yes the kettle will turn off and on if it is allowed to shut off in the on position and you leave it plugged in I don't know if the base has a sensor on it but I noticed when I used it a couple of times I forgot to empty the water out right away and when I went back and checked on it 30 minutes later it had turned back on I use mine in the bathroom it usually heat the water in less than 5 minutes
