  • The alternator quit on us and we could only hope we had enough battery power to make it safely to the harbour. We did, and this epic and awesome adventure came to a close. Sad to see it end, and we can't wait to embark on our next adventure.
    Sorry about the video and audio quality, the editor I'm using is not very good, I don't know why it does that.

    Enjoyed watching the Mississippi River trip guys. Thanks. Interesting seeing how big the river is down south. The upper Mississippi River (Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa) is obviously smaller but there are many more places to anchor and camp along the way. Fishy backwaters, woodsy and scenic with classic/friendly river towns. River isn't as broad-shouldered and intimidating as down south.

    I enjoyed watching the whole series. advice? bigger boat for 5 guys,. small generator for battery charger etc. the fuel wagon was a good add-on. great dinghy and outboard.
    anyway, that was a trip you guys will always remember. thanks for the videos

    Loved the series Guys. A friend and I have run all 811 miles of the Missouri River from Yankton SD to St Louis and made a trip last year from Michigan City Indiana over to Chicago and then down to St Louis (lots of on the water gas docks on this route). The next trip is basically what you all did here and we are also working on a trip from Florida over to Bimini. Sounds major but its not that far...Just have to have a good open water boat. Please post when you do more trips and be safe.

    I'd like a follow up video.. where you tell us about fuel use, what kind of speeds you used, getting water, how you chose the part of the river you ran..(and not the rest).. and how you got back to the trailer. Did you turn in the rental truck and then get another ? What do you think is an adequate truck for that boat.. and what does it weigh with the trailer.? Didn't you have enough time to get the alternator fixed.. and what caused the gas leak ?.. and how did you get so much water in the boat ?

    While I was curious about the details of your accommodations, I'm sure that once you five had been in Herbert for ten minutes he was no longer photogenic. A great adventure for you all, and a surprisingly enjoyable video.

    Nice travelogue! The Mississippi looks a lot like the Mackenzie but warmer and with more civilization...

    when I restored my 86 Bayliner cuddy, I swapped out the old Volvo for the same Merc V6 you guys are using. its a bulletproof little motor

    • @SmallCraftCruising
      @SmallCraftCruising  6 лет назад +2

      yeah, a modern version of it makes as much power as the old V8's but it's lighter and uses a little less fuel. I've been very happy with it.

      Joe Kaz the old Volvo was better. Even the outdrive is better than any Mercruiser ever made.

    I was tempted to buy a boat identical to this one , $7000 400 merc cruiser dual drive though Oh I so wanted to get it kick myself weekly I did`nt but seemed you guys had a blast ,Good trip too I wanted to do Vancouver Bc to Florida Coastal . Best idea make a turbine charger it`s windy most times on open water keep the batteries charged .

    Hi, I have not read all your posts but there is a thing called the Great Loop. Its a continuation of your trip but in mega form. Great videos. PS I,m from Madera CA. Did you guys go to Liberty High?? Oh and get a Honda 2K Generator and a Walmart AC for the cabin and a battery charger. Life will be good. BTW...For a more localized trip head up the delta from San Francisco all the way to Sacramento. Its a great local trip.

    • @SmallCraftCruising
      @SmallCraftCruising  8 лет назад +1

      The great loop is definitely on our bucket lists. We had actually bought a generator, but it arrived DOA 2 days before the trip so we couldn't use it or an AC. And we all very much wish we had AC. Most of us are from Santa Cruz area and the one from Fresno is actually from Reedley/Dinuba which is in Tulare county. And we have definite plans for the delta in SF... as soon as we finish making some interior modifications.

      Herbert was only there for the weekend, then we trailered it back to California where he sits still. He will make an appearance as soon as I can get him off the trailer again.
