We had a budget of 2600. We bought a 15ft boat (1300), trailer (700), trolling motor (160), 4 PFD (55), group 29 battery (115), trailer hitch for our vehicle (120), wiring kit (45), trailer hitch kit with ball (30), trailer hitch lock (5) boat registration first time including sales tax(160), trailer registration first time including sales tax (140), LED trailer submersible lights (25). Clearly we went over budget. But we have fun now. This guy used sponsorship to acquire these things, almost for free. Not many people I know has money like just to wake up one day and say, "I'm gonna buy a boat and pimp it out." We worked hard and saved our money for our boat. We got everything we needed to get it on the water. We got our boat, trailer, trolling motor, battery and PFDs from Academy, trailer lights, ball hitch, trailer lock and battery from Walmart (cheaper than academy), hitch and wiring kit from Amazon. Shop around, get pricings and compare.
I started out thinking this was cool but then I priced it out and realized that after taxes that is pretty much a $8,000 boat. For that amount of money you can just buy a decent used boat lol
Harlan Mote same I got a 93 bass tracker for $1500 with trailer and trolling motor, cost $500 to get it running and another $500 to outfit it with some stuff. Deals are out there just got to look
You boys left out the Motor, 3000$ hit to your pocket. But yeah, the boat is everything you need to do 75% of the things you can do with that $60K goat. On a side note, this boat can do things in shallow water that the $60k boat can't do.
I run a Alum Craft 1456 with a 15 hp Evinrude on the Mississippi River in Minnesota and it works great. I put a flat bottom(1/2" marine plywood) in it to make it more stable to stand and fly cast .
Man I just looked at getting a Yamaha 15 for mine and it was like 5200 after everything from the dealer. Then put 5 thousand into accessories for the jon boat. Man a few thousand more I can get a tracker and not have to do all the work lol
Me and the wife is building a 12 ft from academy it's going to be fun we already took it for a ride with just a 30 lb trolling motor works great, but I'm working on a 1947 7.2hp Martin 60 outboard hopefully I can get it running waiting on parts at the moment but the guy said it should push that little boat pretty good...
Wow thanks for making this video! I've been wanting to get a boat on a budget and there isn't a lot of content out there on fishing from a duck boat. I'm 6'4 280lbs and looks like I would be perfectly safe on a 16 ft duck boat. Stoked!
So I can appreciate this video but the cost of everything you secured I’m going to calculate is about $8k to $13k. A brand new 2021 bass tracker classic is $12,995. 50Hp motor. And it gets the job done and can handle some serious water. All assembled and everything under the same warranty.
I was on the Academy app., and the only one that pulled up was a plastic boat, not this nice Aluma Craft Jon boat, and I'm nearly 300 lbs myself. this must be special order or something.
because he put a 20hp on the back of it, it is either a waterfowl 15 TL or 16 TL. the smallest motor you can put on the back of the other models is a 25hp.
Wow... It’s beautiful ... Can that boat use the Honda 2.3 hp long shaft ..??.. cuz I had that motor, I hope it work... so I can get a boat...... thank you Sir.... you guys awesome
Thanks so much for watching! The boat is rated for up to 25hp and the transom is 20 inches, so your motor should work. Be sure to double check these specs against what Honda recommends for your particular motor.
That was all well and nice and the price of $4800 was not bad either with the exception of the fact you forgot to add the cost of the motor that's got to fit in and that was probably another 3000 so you're looking at a $8000 rig.
Is this boat in the video 16 ft or 15ft? All the website has listed is the 15 ft waterfowler. It looks like 15ft in the vid. but they kept saying it is 16ft. ???
Looks small for a 16', guess it is the beam, many not be a 48" floor. Looks nice. Went local and none of the stores carry any over the 14', let alone more than one or 2 on display.
Does anyone else remember the other series similar to this one but they built it as the series went on and it was a used boat ? I can’t seem to find it
Yeti is such a scam...your basically advertising your buying habits. (Hey yall...look at me...ima name brand overpriced buyer) Hopefully your getting paid to wear that...
Yes, if you’re a big enough sucker to by a Hobie kayak. That’s the cost of manufacturing in California though. If they relocated to another part of the states, they could drop the price by 40%.
i have a tracker 1448 20 hp merc bought at bass pro shop in 2017 or 2018.. im 28 years old it fits perfect in my garage, i live in norcal and i smash the delta, sacramento, american, feather, any lake from beryssea to clear to folsom to collins rollins pardee bullards sugar pine res YOU name it im bashing through the water, ive only ran in to trouble when it was me and 2 other people one of my friends weighs 300lbs alone lmao, so that boat was holding a total of 800lbs that day says it can only handle 450, all said in done ive spent a additional 1100 or so on accessories trolling motor garmin stryker and rod holders, i can catch any fish anyone else does and i can go anywhere
Hi Bill, thank you for reaching out. We apologize you were unable to find the boat you're looking for. We are constantly working to replenish out of stock inventory. To view our selection of Alumacraft boats, please visit bit.ly/2VHvvFv. You may also sign up your email to be notified once its available at your local store. Thanks!
We apologize for the frustration and any confusion, Steve as this video was posted March 2020. We recommend you keep checking back as we're starting to be able to replenish our inventory as quickly as possible.
If it was me on a budget I’d go with a smaller boat put it in my pick up no trailer and I’d even consider running a 85 pound thrust trolling motor instead of that $4000 Yamaha. But nice video.
This is actually comical - the first and only thing on the boat build was the installation of a useless LED light bar, which would be handy if you mentioned the legally required (red and green) marker lights to take your new boat out at night. They also specifically informed us how to break in a brand new motor, that they don't sell. Seems like Academy Sports might need a new marketing team after this one.
A little misleading on the cost since you don’t have the motor listed. Nice boat 🚤 but you need to be open and honest when you are trying to sell people on your boat.
You are you are a big guy. You have your tank your engine and you at the back. You will find your boot is a lot more efficient I will get on the plane a lot quicker if you wait your boat more to the front. The engine has to work way too hard to get on the plane with all the weight being at the back
Thanks for the time and videoing your boat build. Oh and check out my upgrades on my G3 Sportsman for more ideas at ruclips.net/video/UBA1ExuXCZo/видео.html
That doesn’t include the cost of the motor! That motor is about $3,500 give or take a few hundred dollars. So $4,750 (boat) + $3,500 (motor) = $8,250 For $8,250 you could find a very nice used 16ft (or longer) bass boat with about a 115 Evinrude or Johnson motor with a fish finder. No, I wouldn’t pay that much for a jon boat!
The second you included Yeti buckets you went over budget.
Advertising for Academy.
I started out thinking this was cool but then I priced it out and realized that after taxes that is pretty much a $8,000 boat. For that amount of money you can just buy a decent used boat lol
They didn't price in the motor either..
All you need is a truck bed, 10ft jon boat and trolling motor. All new at Acadamy for less than 1200$
And a better boat.. I bought a 18’ 86 Alumacraft with a rebuilt 40 hp Johnson for $1200 put $3000 into it and have a really nice boat.
Harlan Mote same I got a 93 bass tracker for $1500 with trailer and trolling motor, cost $500 to get it running and another $500 to outfit it with some stuff.
Deals are out there just got to look
Get what you want! Don't worry how another man spends his money!
You boys left out the Motor, 3000$ hit to your pocket. But yeah, the boat is everything you need to do 75% of the things you can do with that $60K goat. On a side note, this boat can do things in shallow water that the $60k boat can't do.

Don’t bother asking questions, this was a promotional video.
That motor alone is about $4k.
jeremiah.daniel exactly
What I was thinking too. $9k in a Jon boat
Man I just looked at getting a Yamaha 15 for mine and it was like 5200 after everything from the dealer. Then put 5 thousand into accessories for the jon boat. Man a few thousand more I can get a tracker and not have to do all the work lol
Between 22 and 26 hundred - they ain't cheap, no doubt.
Unoriginal and false advertising. Disappointed in academy and yeti. This is totally unrealistic.

Didn’t include the outboard price. Hmmm I wonder why.
Because it cost more than everything else combined lol
A 40/30 Yamaha Jet would have been a wiser outboard choice for what you are trying to achieve. Pond, ocean, lake river, stream.
anyone else notice the loose trailer hitch ball?
yes
Bugged the hell out of me

Great project!!! Super cool boat but need to see the cost of the motor as well
Used it’s about 2,600 I’d bet 3,000-3,500 new.
look it up
3250. Hes got close to 10 g in it
I don't see the price of the motor was that included in the boat price? What model is the boat ?
because he put a 20hp on the back of it, it is either a waterfowl 15 TL or 16 TL. the smallest motor you can put on the back of the other models is a 25hp.
I have a 15' and have a 25hp Yamaha. $2900 for boat, $1500 for trailer and $4200 for motoe
Charles Page well sir I have a ranger boat with a 125 mercury, trolling motor, and trailer I bought for 4,000 goes on the water almost every day.
Be sure to double check these specs against what Honda recommends for your particular motor.
if you want to go 6mph, yes
New video title, “Hoppers cousin from stranger things builds dope ass boat.”
When you realize the rod holders are what makes a $4k boat a $60k boat
In his list price he did not include the outboard, more like a 10k boat. you can't get a fully equipped boat with a new outboard for 4k.
Super inspired, One of the best builds I’ve seen!
Hi friend, congratulations on your channel, great content. like and subscribed.
we are always together 👊.
No motor, no yeti buckets or cooler, no rods reels or socks.
I liked the boat. I'm sure that has gone up a lot since 2 years ago, like everything else! Nice affordable boat though!
That was all well and nice and the price of $4800 was not bad either with the exception of the fact you forgot to add the cost of the motor that's got to fit in and that was probably another 3000 so you're looking at a $8000 rig.
Looks very fun, great video!
Super nice... damn... there no Acanemy shop in Portland , Oregon... damn.. I want that boat so bad.....
Bass Pro shops has the same boat
What size is the front seat post. I like how tall it is. I’m 6” and most posts aren’t tall enough to be comfortable for me
Are you intentionally leaving out the cost of the motor in your list?
Guess this is Academy Sports advertisement so the motor didn't come from Academy Sports but the motor is over 3000
Yes! The motor is between $3,500 to $4,000.
Is this boat in the video 16 ft or 15ft? All the website has listed is the 15 ft waterfowler. It looks like 15ft in the vid. but they kept saying it is 16ft. ???
I always wanted a boat like this
Also, where did you buy the trailer?
wow thought abought doing this, academy has so much more stuff to make it one of a kind.
Nice setup
Why did you not add the price of the Motor??
what was total cost including motor.
Lol no that motor is another 4 grand plus
Over $9K
Between $8,500 and $9,000! For that, you could buy a really nice bass boat with a much larger motor and much safer hull!
Looks small for a 16', guess it is the beam, many not be a 48" floor. Looks nice. Went local and none of the stores carry any over the 14', let alone more than one or 2 on display.
I can’t find this model boat anywhere
Boy have prices changed! Now a rivited 14 foo Jon is 2k absolutely ridiculous. I bought mine in 2019 for 750$!!
from 2020 to 2023, just 3 years, the prices on the boats have DOUBLED ! thats "IF" you can find one.
Does anyone else remember the other series similar to this one but they built it as the series went on and it was a used boat ? I can’t seem to find it
The boat dealership failed to tell me about a yamaha break in procedure, I've been balls to the wall for 7 years on my 90hp no issues
Were you street- and water-legal straight away, or were those separate processes? Insurance?
Damn! Less than a year the 15' went up to $1429 from $829 a $600 increase and you no longer off the 16' model!
How do you stop your lab from chasing your lure?😁
Does 4K include the outboard motor?
It does not include the cost of the outboard
So it’s a 8k boat build?
Yeti is such a scam...your basically advertising your buying habits. (Hey yall...look at me...ima name brand overpriced buyer) Hopefully your getting paid to wear that...
i would like to do this, but it looks like Academy no longer carries this boat, have you heard from Academy on when they may have mod-v boats again?
Alumacraft no longer makes the flay bottom or mod-v utility boats.
@@mwgarrett1981 I just saw the 14' and 16` V boats on their website. Not sure if it was the Mod-V model but it was a v bottom utility boat.
What model boat is that? Also short or long shaft motor?
What are the specs of the 20hp motor & troller motor? Thanks.
This could be one of the best fishing series on RUclips.
Academy doesn't sell this boat I've been looking for almost a year I'm pretty sure this was a one time thing
Minus the cost of the motor, about the same cost as a Hobie kayak.
Yes, if you’re a big enough sucker to by a Hobie kayak. That’s the cost of manufacturing in California though. If they relocated to another part of the states, they could drop the price by 40%.
How much was the outboard motor plz
i have a tracker 1448 20 hp merc bought at bass pro shop in 2017 or 2018.. im 28 years old it fits perfect in my garage, i live in norcal and i smash the delta, sacramento, american, feather, any lake from beryssea to clear to folsom to collins rollins pardee bullards sugar pine res YOU name it im bashing through the water, ive only ran in to trouble when it was me and 2 other people one of my friends weighs 300lbs alone lmao, so that boat was holding a total of 800lbs that day says it can only handle 450, all said in done ive spent a additional 1100 or so on accessories trolling motor garmin stryker and rod holders, i can catch any fish anyone else does and i can go anywhere
is he using an impact driver as a drill?
Sure, why not?
Nice looking dog.
How much was the outboard?
There only like 3 to $4,000
Why is this boat no longer available
Hi Bill, thank you for reaching out. We apologize you were unable to find the boat you're looking for. We are constantly working to replenish out of stock inventory. To view our selection of Alumacraft boats, please visit bit.ly/2VHvvFv. You may also sign up your email to be notified once its available at your local store. Thanks!
You bought H20 rods but a Yeti cooler!??🤔
I've been looking at this boat online at Academy Sports it's never in stock and you cannot order it why make this video and it's never available.
We apologize for the frustration and any confusion, Steve as this video was posted March 2020. We recommend you keep checking back as we're starting to be able to replenish our inventory as quickly as possible.
Not ideal. This build cost that your 4k price you list. You didn't even include the motor price lol
how much does it all weight?
Really enjoyed this but no budget minded person is buying YETI but I get it comporate is paying the bills so you have to give the vendors there plugs.
what was the top speed
If it was me on a budget I’d go with a smaller boat put it in my pick up no trailer and I’d even consider running a 85 pound thrust trolling motor instead of that $4000 Yamaha. But nice video.
You can't find these boats at academy
you didnt include the price of the motor.
The 20 hp Yamaha is not listed. Thats a 3700.00+ dollars on top of it. Other than that, I enjoyed the video
what about the motor. this is an 8K build at the very least. Donated for this so not included? very cool if that is the case. Great video though
add in a couple thousand more for the motor.
For some reason he reminds me of hopper from stranger things
Safety chains need to be crossed
What is the ideal water for your jon boat.
Looking to buy my first boat...for my wife and 4 year old and I... would you be willing to sell this boat?
didn't Academy used to sell small motors?
yes, up to 15hp Mercurys
Ya how much was the Yamaha.......
That's a lot of money for that little boat
But, the outboard motor is more expensive than all the package
You'd better include oars in the budget, if you don't include the outboard... apparently, that wasn't written in the instructions.
10 foot Jon and 2.3 hp Honda with trailer. $2800
No way academy in our area has 30% of this. Lol. Heck they’re talking removing 90% of the fishing gear
U forgot the cost of the Yamaha
Just as long as they don't sell those scary black guns with the capacity of shooting 300 rounds a second.
4,751.74 + 4,630.00= 9,831.74 plus taxes on the engine LOL!!!! thats a big deal!!!
I bet the motor cost was as much as the boat....
Why is the retail price of these outboards such a trade secret??? Worse than car dealerships.
MAn can you help me do mine. Please
I got a 1648 fir 2900
sucks they dont make it anymore
This is actually comical - the first and only thing on the boat build was the installation of a useless LED light bar, which would be handy if you mentioned the legally required (red and green) marker lights to take your new boat out at night. Sweet setup but it’s unrealistic & expensive..
video of how to spend 10 thousand in gear in one stone
Thanks for the time and videoing your boat build. Oh and check out my upgrades on my G3 Sportsman for more ideas at ruclips.net/video/UBA1ExuXCZo/видео.html
Looked up the boat and it was over 8k just for that. Oof
I’d rather run a mercury
He can go a head and lose the Yeti hat, most of their products are Chinese made.
That doesn’t include the cost of the motor! That motor is about $3,500 give or take a few hundred dollars. So $4,750 (boat) + $3,500 (motor) = $8,250
