your attitude is very pleasing, and your demo leaves enough room for others creativity. Not like "ok, we're all going to paint this abstract painting just the way I did it." Thanks.
Thanks for your feedback ❤️ I’m a firm believer that we each have a unique artistic style within us. If you put your effort into painting like me, the world will miss the unique creativity that YOUR art brings into existence ❤️
I can totally relate to the resistance. For me it's an issue of perfection. I want it to be a successful painting. When I approach it like I'm just practicing or playing, or I tell myself I'm going to sit down and just make marks it breaks that congestion of resistance. I love watching your videos. They help too!
Oh my! I found myself dancing to the music and enjoying this painting process more than I expected!! Hahaha!! 🎉I would frame them they are beautiful!🖌️🖌️🖌️. My warmup is usually in my journals. I set a RULE of no stress and just play. Many times they begin with a one line drawing of a horse(very gestural) and to upbeat music.
I just discovered your channel today and watched your video when you were making 3 wood panels while grandma treated the kiddos to Portillos and just loved what you creating. I’m trying to find Part 2 to see how they came out. On another note, I’m in the middle of taking Louise’s Taster course now. She is fabulous! I did this exercise and will be doing it probably a ton more times. I’m hopeful it will help me overcome that control I feel I need to have. I’m very new to abstract and never took an art class so everything feels hard for me right now. Thanks for doing this video. It’s really inspiring and encouraging!
Welcome! I’m so glad to have you as a part of this wonderful community! ❤️ If there’s a part 2 to a video, I usually add a link to it in the video description of the “Part 1” video. 🤗
@@jackieschomburgart she is! I treasure my signed copy of her book. I also love Karen Stamper, I’m slowly working my way through her concertina sketchbook course which is helping me get rid of the ‘tidy’! Your videos are combining beautifully with this and giving me hope! I love your work. I’m still bad at evaluating what I’m doing so your process is agonisingly useful as I see you obliterate some small thing I love only to end up producing something that is beautifully cohesive as a whole and not just in part. Great lesson! (I’ve just watched one of your other videos on keeping going).
Oh I’m so glad to hear that my videos are helping navigate learning to trust yourself and your choices more - that’s the highest compliment! And such a compliment to list my name next to Louise Fletcher and Karen Stamper too! You made my day - thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
I do this also’ especially when I get the arty block””. I’ve seen me sit looking at the blank canvas for up to an hour many times this process gets you back on track! No masterpieces just playtime !
Yowza! That was a terrific tutorial/demo Jackie. Your instincts are so finely tuned and the results beautifully energetic. Yes, Louise is great, and you are a star. Thank you.
Ahhhh. Very cool. Going to try this since I've been in a slump. Hard not to feel the pressure to put out an "excellent" piece every time. Also hard sometimes to remember I can just start and let the flow take over. Thank you! Really enjoyed your video and watching you work. Very nice!
i will definitely try this letting go technique. love your videos. when you talk about using crayons, are you taking about kids' crayons, like crayola brand?
You can use crayola crayons (just make sure they are not the washable kind!). I usually use caran d’ache neocolor l crayons because they have more pigment, but any kind of crayon will work :)
You always make interesting marks. And interesting choice of colors. Your pieces are sharp. How long you been abstracting? Me, i started approx 6 months ago. And i feel like i suck at it. Ya im stuck in that self criticism. Anyways your good st it.
I switched to abstracts about 8 years ago - like all things worth doing, it takes time ❤️ I’m still figuring things out and I think that’s the best part - everything is problem solving 😆❤️
This was really cool to watch. When you used the regular pencil, we’re you making marks on the paint- or actually drawing with it? Also- do you think with abstract art/ collage, that using most any material is acceptable even if it may not be something that will last ( not fade or degrade)?
Thanks, Lisa! I believe I was using the pencil to draw into the paint, but certainly some paint gets moved along by the pencil too. I think anything goes when making art, HOWEVER, if you intend to sell it, I’d suggest sticking to media that will stand the test of time. If you’d like to experiment with unstable media that may not last, there’s probably still a market for it, but potentially more so if you take photographs and/or video of it. What do you think about temporary materials in abstract/mixed media art?
@@jackieschomburgart that’s a great idea about photographing the pieces that you have used unstable products on. I just keep seeing a lot of artists using recycled materials and wondered what the scoop is. I really like the idea of upcycling- especially with magazines.
@@Lisa_G3 Depending on what the artists use to glue the magazines and papers to paintings, the recycled collage papers can be archival. I seal all of my recycled papers in with gloss medium/varnish on both sides so they are completely sealed 👍
Oh great, I have Canson mixed media paper that is 9 x12, but where do you find large paper 18x24? I will look to see. Love seeing all your videos. Love your art
Hi Karla - are you asking which of the classic composition styles these paintings fall into? If so, I’d say they’re probably closest to a loose grid composition…. But it’s kind of all over the place. What do you think?
Thank you ❤️ Beginners can certainly get these results, it just might not happen as consistently if you haven’t a lot of time in to making art yet. It’s quantity over quality for a while to figure out what kind of art is authentic and natural for you to create. The more often you paint, the sooner you will discover what works best for you ❤️

Thanks you for this . I OVE art painting . If I do trees and things like that , they always look a bit childish , Your lesson is great

😍😍, do you have a follow up on these ?
I don’t have any updates - these are still sitting in my drawer as is 😆❤️

Do you prime the watercolor paper first? Or is it watercolor paper?
I rarely use gesso on paper. I just use the plain paper. Most of the time I use mixed media paper and sometimes I’ll use watercolor paper.
Oh great, I have Canson mixed media paper that is 9 x12, but where do you find large paper 18x24? I will look to see. Love seeing all your videos. Love your art
I buy large, single sheets of mixed media paper from Blick. The mixed media/acrylic papers are usually a bit less expensive than the watercolor paper.
148. This work is very interesting in my mind for imagining myself to run away as if to pursue my dreams. watch for my abstract too.
Thank you ❤️
May I ask what blue you use? In most of your videos it looks like a Prussian or a Lagoon blue?
Hi Carl - I typically use Payne’s gray and Phthalo blue with black mixed in ☺️
I believe the blue in this video is phthalo blue + black ☺️
Ah! I should’ve thought Paynes. Thank you.
Anytime! ☺️
What is the design composition of this piece?

Hi Diana - so glad to have you here! ❤️ And yes, I am an Art Tribe member! Are you too?
I see images in these. I think it would be interesting to make the images more defined.

This is actually the primary way I learn as an artist. Lovely video, but not as lovely as the far right piece hanging on the wall!
