      It was the first roller coaster I ever rode, and now that I've ridden tons, I still thought of it as the best I've ridden, but I always thought it was just because it was my first, and not because it was actually that good, but I'm glad to see ppl agree with me. Diamond back and raging bull just do not compare, and I don't know why

  • @BD97lol

    I'm glad you put your opinions out there and don't conform to other people's standards. I was not expecting to see steel force at number one, but when you think about it, it really makes sense. It isn't overly intense or painful, it is smooth and the restraints are awesome. Keep up the great work I love watching your videos they hit on a different level

    • @Okaycoasters
      @Okaycoasters  4 года назад +2

      Wow thank you so much. Yea steel force was a ride I was expecting zero out of. When I rode it I didn't want to get off. I was laughing so hard on those bunny hills. I would slowly float up and slam back down but in a comfortable way. It was fantastic.

  • @overbanked

    I'm stunned that you didn't mention Comet (Hershey); IMO it gives Phoenix a run for its money. I agree with Kraken (I got a smooth ride everytime, even with VR) and Cheetah Hunt (the airtime trench drop is where it's at). My all time most underrated is Dania Beach Hurricane (RIP); it was an airtime monster, with 8 moments of everything between ejector and floater.

    Once again you deliver some of the best coaster footage and stories today.
    I agree with you on the BGT coasters. Kumba sadly doesn't get the love it once did(Usually has some of the shortest wait times in the park).
    I personally have only ridden the coasters of Florida but now that I've reached the big 50 I'm now more than ever motivated to get to the northern parks and knock most of these coasters off the list while I'm still young enough to enjoy them(and before some of them disappear.)

    What you were saying about Talon is exactly what I was thinking about with Flight Deck at California's Great America. Nobody ever talks about that one, but that thing packs quite a punch. It is so intense and feels like it is going much faster than it actually is. I agree that Steel Force is underrated. I had ridden Mamba at Worlds of Fun plenty, and it has never had any airtime at all on those bunny hills. I expected the same from Steel Force, but those bunny hills & the helix were so much better than Mamba's. I found Hydra to also be an extremely underrated floorless coaster. It was my favorite in the park.

    Beautiful video. As a Philadelphian, I have kind of felt “Meh” about Dorney. However, when I went last year, I paid more attention to the ride experience, and really wound up loving Steel Force. Talon was also great. I believe I rode it at night and at some point it felt like it was super close to the ground. I loved it. Twilight tickets for this park are the best value.

    That is so true about Great Bear’s roar. I remember a few years ago sitting at the pizza place by Skyrush eating pizza and hearing it go by and saying “Why is that thing so loud” I wasn’t a coaster enthusiast then.

    A friend recommended your channel to me. This is about the 5th vid of yours I’ve watched. Great stuff!! I love how your videos are so well thought out and done, but more importantly - your commentary is awesome!! I love to hear your sense of wonder and discovery as you go about riding different rides! It brings back memories of when I started in the hobby/lifestyle.
    To comment on this video specifically - I’m glad you had “Steel Force” on here. I was never a fan of Magnum, and I loved Mamba, as I had ridden it many times before the trims were always used on the bunny hills. Having ridden it since, boring bumps to the station. Steel Force is pretty much the only reason I go back to Dorney. Great ride from beginning to end!! And... more comfortable to boot! As far as Talon goes... I’m from that jaded group who has ridden a LOT of coasters. (Over 1k) When Talon opened, it came across as a good solid ride. But, there was really nothing special or unique about it (to a jaded rider), as every element had the same feel as other B&M inverts. There was nothing that really made it stand out, in our eyes. Now, way back when, when Montu first opened, it ran brakeless. As in, insane! The batwing was probably the most intense element ever, at that point in time. When they added the trims to the mid-course (as opposed to using it only as an emergency block brake), it killed Montu in a lot of enthusiasts’ eyes, mine included. On the other hand, Kumba is not as underrated as you may think. It’s just not talked about in enthusiast circles as much, as it has been around for so long and most serious enthusiasts have made the trek to ride it before. Yet those same enthusiasts will still rank it VERY highly, as it is still (as you said) a smooth, forceful, power-filled, gorgeous ride!! (You forgot to mention the awesome “roar” of Kumba!) By “ranking high”, I mean top 20 of ALL coasters ridden. Most people with stats similar (and higher) to mine will agree, that Kumba is one of the best out there!!
    I look forward to seeing many more of your videos in the future!!

    • @Okaycoasters
      @Okaycoasters  4 года назад +1

      Wow thank you for this great comment! I love hearing about Montu running with no trims...that would be so amazing and yes that Roar of Kumba was amazing and maybe I will focus on that more in my next feature of Kumba.(Sounds like a fun Topic) I really did enjoy this ride alot!!! Thank you again for all the info and also for your Support !!!!

    Love seeing my favorites on this list, Kraken, Cheetah Hunt, Phoenix, Twister, and Kumba.
    Kumba’s roar when it goes by is beautiful, it’s name literally means roar. My siblings and I have run on it after just getting off it over 5 times in a row, while our parents sat out after just one ride and talking about how rough it was compared to when it opened.
    Twister is one of my family’s favorites simple due to my younger brother, like 4 at the time, seeing it while we were heading into the park and shouting “I want to ride that one!” pointing at Twister. My dad made him ride Phoenix first be sure he wanted to ride Twister. He loved Phoenix and still wanted to ride Twister. Even with the lap restraints my brother was slipping in the seat and my dad had to keep him from sliding under the restraints. He loved it and we still joke about how bold he was to see the biggest coaster in the park and declare that he wanted to ride it.

    After I saw the title and heard the intro, I figured this list would be full of older, lesser-known woodies. But actually, all of the ones you've listed *are* on my bucket list. :p
    Now yeah, getting back to what you said in the intro, I gotta admit the dive coasters are highly likely to be one and done for me, but not the rest of this bunch.
    I was planning a massive US amusement parks trip for next year (had to postpone from the original plan of doing it this year), and I plan to hit up all of these, among others. (and btw, my parks count currently is about a third of yours. Energylandia, Phantasialand, Europa Park, Toverland, and Walibi Holland). :p
    The production on your video is terrific btw. As everyone said, excellent musical choices.

  • @sammclaren6021
    @sammclaren6021 4 года назад

    I honestly agree with your pick with dives. I'm a brit and I see a lot of people write off Oblivion, but the air in the back on that drop mixed with the intensity of that drop and the feeling of the air whipping over your face out of that tunnel makes it short but sweet. It's my 4th favourite ride in the park and I rate it above Galactica (which was my first ever "major" coaster, so that holds a special place in my heart). Thanks for giving the older models the recognition they deserve.

    Thanks for throwing some love at Dorney. I'd never tell anyone that it's the best park, or even my favorite, but I'm a sucker for water slides and roller coasters. Dorney definitely doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
    And thanks for remembering Alpengeist is a darn good coaster. Have you considered inquiring at parks about why a ride has a feature like that break run (which I don't remember being as severe as it was in that clip) that seems like it should be an easy adjustment to fix?
    I remember Alpengiest having very consistent rides, but Big Bad Wolf didn't. BBW was my first and will forever be my favorite, but it taught me something more important than that I love rollercoasters. It taught me that each run around the track is different. If the track is wet because it just rained, the break runs will be at their max. If the train in front of you is significantly lighter, you're train might be slowed to allow a few extra tenths of a second for the train ahead to clear the section. I rode BBW over and over again on a rainy day. No waiting and trains with wildly different loads. My cousins and I got a lot of "rare" explanations about how the ride worked as we waited for test trains to go around after each short spat of rain. BBW did these things automatically, it had to, but the ride ops didn't have to know about it. We got lucky, picking the brain of someone who knew more than most. It's entirely possible that something else entirely is going on with Alpengeist beyond it having a "bad break run". Or it might be something that can be changed, the park just doesn't know it's wanted.
    At the very least, it could shed some light onto why certain rides are the way they are, or convince people that maybe they should give them a second chance. It's content I'm interested in watching, anyway.

  • @JohnnyForRansom

    Tbh, honestly I think that Hurler at carowinds is completely underrated. I love wooden coasters, and hurler is my favorite for the fact that it’s pretty fast, it packs a decent amount of airtime, and you just can’t beat the old school charm of a wooden coaster. I know that some wooden coasters are terrible, but hurler doesn’t deserve all the hate it’s getting. People judge hurler just because of its jerkiness (which has gotten so much better over these years) and also how the restraints are “not comfortable”. Personally I think that the hurler’s seats and restraints are pretty decent and they still allow airtime(I was out of my seat on the first drop many times). I just think that a lot of the hate hurler gets is undeserved. It’s a good family coaster and carowinds needs a decent wooden coaster so I hope they don’t RMC it. Carowinds should maybe put a dueling RMC in it like twisted colossus and call it thunder road’s revenge. That would be cool.

    ... speaking of "underrated", I don't know I've ever seen a video about roller coasters with such incredibly-high production value! I've seen my share of coaster videos and have seen some really good ones, but this video easily surpassed all of them in terms of quality. The crisp footage and ESPECIALLY the skilled script-writing kept me engaged all 22 minutes of this video.

    You named so many coasters I absolutely love!! I work at Hershey and oped bear a ton so I feel a little biased that I love it so much but it's a beautiful ride. Talon is paced so well and is such a good invert that gets no love. Steel force is just plain fun and a great time. Twister is such a unique woodie that gets no love and is rough that it feels like a good woodie but not painful. Keep posting giving love to all coasters that are a good time and don't worry what everyone else thinks. You're putting out AMAZING coaster content!!

    After finally getting on Talon for the first time during Grand Carnivale in row 6, it was insane in row 6 (Got an awesome sunset ride on Steel Force too in 2nd from back. I later rode Batman at night on Black Friday at Great Adventure. It was fun ridding the rights at night and in cooler weather. Not sure if I'll get back on Great Bear when I go to Hershey in April (trip through my university) as I still need Trailblazer, Wild Mouse, Sidewinder, Fahrenheit, plus getting back on Skyrush and Stormrunner-which I ride the first time in 2015, and maybe Lightning Racer-which I got night rides on each side opening day 2017 (I rode SuperDooperLooper, Comet, Laff Trakk, and Wildcat in 2017. Laff Trakk on a longer/quiet day, SuperDooperLooper and Comet next time, Wild Cat is one and done-same with Wild Mouse probably). Ignoring Coca Crusier, Candymonium, (which probably won't be open), and the water coaster (not a water park fan, might do it someday) the redo to their dark ride and one of the Triple Towers would be a good plus

    BGT is one of my home parks and I have found that Kumba and Montu switch back and forth based on how they ride that day. This is why I think Kumba gets some hate, because people ride it on a bad day but even when it's not running as good as it can it's still incredible. I brought my friend there for the first time and he thought it was overrated on the first ride but still great. Later that evening we came back to it and Kumba decided to show the monster it was and not let up until it hit the breaks. This is why Kumba is special and for the people that have experienced the unforgiving intensity it can bring I'm sure they can back me up on this.

    Wow what an awesome video!!! Totally enjoyed it! Leaves alot of things for discussion too!! Definitely some of my faves. I will say a few things I agree.. I loved Talon, we visited Dorney for the first time ever this year. Wish I had a better park experience but it was a weekday and they were running 1 train ops so we didn't get near the rides we hoped. Kumba is my #2 coaster ever and only got knocked down cause I love Lightning Rod so. Kumba is still my #1 in the park and totally agreed it's beautiful! Thunderbird I hope we will get the credit for in 2020.
    Now the main thing my opinion was different on.. Knoebels. You had one thing that one of the first 3 things was Phoenix. Absolutely loved that coaster. But the main thing that comes to my mind ... The flyers!! Lol. 🤣 How awesome is all that snapping? But Twister was awesome. And you were right great ride and I honestly had never even heard of it.
    Again great video!! 💯 enjoyed! ~Dawn

      @Okaycoasters  4 года назад +1

      Thank you so much !!!! Yes I have heard that Dorney runs 1 train ops a lot and that can really make for a long day. Both times I went this year they were running multiple trains and even on slower days so I guess I just got lucky. I also really wish I would have tried out the fliers at when I went to Knoebels. I saw them and even noticed they were powered by a small gas engine but didn’t have enough time to ride them. I will make sure to next year.

      @@Okaycoasters yes!! They were the highlight of our trip!! I couldn't believe they are powered by an engine and the guy like in the old days just sits out there on his chair and just decides when to turn them off. We rode forever!! And man the rumors I heard was true those things snap like crazy. But hopefully we will see you again somewhere. Merry Christmas! ~Dawn

    I agree with so many of these, especially Twister. Nobody EVER talks about it, and last year as well as this year are the times to visit Knoebels and ride it. They've done quite a bit of track work to it the last two years and have it running better than ever if you ask me. I actually think the Phoenix is rougher in a few spots. Great Bear is one of my favorite rides at Hershey and the general public seems to love it too since it always has a long line on a busy day. Enthusiasts don't say much about it though. The roar that coaster makes is just so awesome and gets me so excited when I enter Hersheypark and walk through the Hollow. Talon is another criminally underrated invert and one of my favorites. I haven't ridden Apollo's Chariot in years but I loved it the one time I did and never really see it talked about. Steel Force is also a hugely underrated ride. I think Morgan is an underrated company overall. I've never ridden Magnum (yet) but Steel Force IMO is one of the most straightforwardly thrilling coasters I've ridden. It was also my first hyper coaster so I have a soft spot for it. I can still marathon it when I visit Dorney and never get tired of it. Great video, subbed.

    I love this entire video. I'm 50 years old today which means that when I was born Mr. Twister was the world's longest, tallest and fastest coaster on earth. 2) I usually'd prefer vest restraints but when it comes to dive coasters OTCRs are the bomb. I've ridden Maverick but I think I'd prefer Cheetah Hunt since I prefer drops and length than whippiness. I also found the end of Max XL 200 too rough on my things and would imagine Steel Force and it's twin to be better. But Steal Vengeance rules above all.

    • @Okaycoasters
      @Okaycoasters  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the cool story!!! You are right about Cheetah Hunt much longer and graceful. I do love Xl-200 a lot but I too have experienced the pain but I would still ride it over and over. Steel Force in my opinion was better but the view on xl is unbeatable. SV is Awesome !!!
