  • Back on the corvids, pigeons and rats in this one using my new Air Arms pro sport 177 12flb using 8.44 Barracuda Match pellets, in the UK Crows and Magpies can cause devastating damage to the ground nesting birds we have on our moors for example Curlews, lapwings meadow pipits and many many more, they also predate on the song bird population ,also around lambing time the crows will peck out the eyes of the new born lambs while they are vulnerable just after birth and even at times while the Ewe is giving birth crows will peck out the eyes and tongues of a lamb, so as a pest controller our laws let us control them all year round, here i am using a 223 rifle as the crows and magpies can wise up avoiding traps and keeping out of range of air rifles and shotguns at times. Any disbelievers please feel free to google and see the damage for your self. cheers.

    Favorite channel on YT by a mile. I grew up on a farm here in America and did some personal pest control when we needed it. Also did lots of hunting. Live in the city now for the past 25 yrs but these videos take me back. But really it’s your respect for the wild life that sets you apart from many on here. Thank you.

    Hi mate, just the great standard of vid we've all come to appreciate and thoroughly enjoy. Had the day off today so took my Ultimate Sporter down the woods, it was flippin cooking though so not much around.....now despite the fact I fall into the category of technically challenged when it comes to IT stuff I sat in the hide and managed to get RUclips working on the phone and watched your vid whilst out shooting.....how cool is that huh! Thank you again for the great vid and it's inspired me to take my Air Arms TX200 out on the weekend. Best wishes.

    I’ve got an Air Arms TX200 in 0.22 FAC not quite finished the tin of 200 pellets it came with and it chronographed at 18ft lbs and was easily capable of taking rabbits at 64 yds from my house window down the garden, together with pigeons from the trees and pheasants at similar ranges. I also have a Diana Air King 54 in .177 FAC which develops 22ft lbs, ostensibly recoilless, serviced and properly set up by Simon Air Doctor, just before we downsized 18 months ago and moved into town hence both for sale at PRS Tomintoul if any interest. As Simon says, I was blown away by their respective accuracy as their purchase was a trip down memory lane and to aid in training a labradoodle which we sadly also had to part with, subsequently losing like Simon, my Labrador daily shooting companion of some twelve years and at 80+ not certain if wise to get another. Your shooting ability Simon is excellent and your videos are a pleasure to watch, particularly your long range coward magpie control

      Not a common choice for fac the tx200 nice one mate there usually hw80s or webley pariots lol I imagine the tx is a joy to shoot over an fac hw 80 always been tricky to tune right and keep it shooting well under 12ft ibs I had one never got on with it traded it with my mate for something else, always wanted an air king, enjoy your shooting mate am so jealous you can shoot rabbits from your window ledge 👍

    Hi Simon,
    I've watched your footage a good few times now. I love seeing your Pro Sport. it's such a super looking air rifle.
    I've been out tonight, doing some pellet testing myself. I've been shooting my TX200 and 97K. I love both air rifles and rather than get into the debate of which one is the best, I just enjoy each for what they are.
    I love my 97K, because it's super accurate and I love the noises and resistances noises of the cocking lever, as it closes. I also made my own laminated stock for mine, to replace the moulded black stock, as it was the Silverline edition. My stock turned out really well and I was pleased with it.
    My TX is amazing , too. The action blueing, the fishscale chequering, the trigger, is out of this world, and I'd guess why it's so expensive, though I adore it. I don't dislike it's cocking sequence. It's something I just get used to, and part and parcel of such a heavyweight, able, super piece of kit.
    I have been using the JSB Exact 8.44 grain pellet, though in breezy days I've struggled with its accuracy out at thirty to forty yards.so I decided to give the JSB Exact Heavies pellets a go, and see how that panned out? I use them in my pcp's, though not my springers.
    I was really impressed with the Heavies and I have a lot more faith in them beyond thirty yards. I got good groupings, which was very satifying.
    Also, another issue. The JSB Heavy pellets are beefier and stronger made, than the 8.44 Exact pellets. Many of the 8.44 were damaged while still in the tin.
    My JSB Heavy pellets were so much better. They had hardly any damaged skirts and generally, perfect. That of course leads to much improved accuracy and in the field, yhe difference between a hit and miss.
    Without question, Simon, your Pro Sport is gorgeous. However, I chose the TX mainly because of the cocking lever on the Pro Sport.
    The cocking lever on the TX, is short and up front.
    The Pro Sport cocking lever, runs the length of the fore end and quite a long lever. I think you struggled a bit, with catching the cocking lever on the straw bales, Simon. I think you'd have similar issues in a hide, too. Nonetheless, a super air rifle.
    So I prefer the heavier pellets, Simon, for my 12ftlb spring air rifles. Do you have any thoughts, Simon?
    Thank you and take care, Ian.

    • @simon6ppc246
      @simon6ppc246  Месяц назад

      I agree with you to be fair Ian, i think my springers in side no wind have the edge with the 8.44s but out side the 10.34s tend to do better my friend. Also the cocking lever is the down side to the Pro Sport like you say but you can get around it i suppose.

    Had a couple of days down at the Game fair this weekend, up graded my night vision from the pard007 to the Zulus or now DNT 3x12 for ratting sessions.

    Howdy Simon. I haven't made any comments in a while, I have been watching, just absorbing what you are doing. I always find it fantastic the accuracy that you have when shooting. Only in my dreams!!! I do have a question though... you made mention of dealing with the recoil of the springer vs. the air rifle. I am assuming that the springer has more recoil to it. Is that correct? What about putting a recoil pad ( butt pad ) on the end of the stock to help absorb the recoil? You always inspire me to want to go out and shoot, just for the fun of it, and I do like shooting. At 72 it seems my mind and body are having different discussions with me and the body is winning. Stay safe my friend!

    • @simon6ppc246
      @simon6ppc246  Месяц назад

      Ye what it is Robert is they don't really recoil a lot just you have to know how to old the rifle in the exact same way so the rifle recoils the same and is keeps the rifle accurate because if say you hold it firm and zero it you have to hold it the same firm way there for after but if you say rest it on some thing it won't be the same zero because its been zeroed from say a firm hold if that makes any sense

    Hi Simon,
    Thank you for another great watch. Your new Pro Sport looks amazing, and you've proven it shoors amazing. Can I ask your advice again, please?
    I like and use mainly JSB Exact Heavies in my pcp's and JSB Exact 8.4 grain .177 calibre in my springers, all 12ftlb. I use the 8.4 grain in my springers as, as the piston moves up the compression cylinder, this is a gradual increase of air, as apposed to the hammer going down in a pcp and all the air being releasing at once.
    However, at forty yards, I'd like better groups with my springer with 8.4 grain pellets.
    I'm going to try JSB Heavies in my springer, as I don't think these pellets should be too heavy, as the same air rifle set up will be used to propel. 22 pellets.
    I'm thinking the extra weight of the JSB Heavies in .177 calibre will suit at the range of between 30-40 yards and help keep the pellet line.
    I love my springers, though when you begin with one, you are fighting pellet choice and artillary hold, amongst other things. I just wondered if you had any advice, or if you have a mindset?
    I thought your shooting and accuracy, as usual, was fantastic and a great example of humane air rifle shooting. Well done!
    Thank you, Ian.
    Ps.
    Do you like Heavier pellets with 12ftlb?

    • @simon6ppc246
      @simon6ppc246  Месяц назад +1

      Ye Ian the 10.34 JSBs are deff worth a try if you are out side, i have done loads of testing with both and on very windy days the 10.34s come out better but being truth full all my springers tend to just have the edge with the 8.44s also for some reason on calmer days or in doors

      That's thanks to Packham, and his Wild Justice pals. Plus, the RSPB said Magpies do not have an appreciable impact on songbirds. Taking Maggies off the General Licences has resulted in them thriving. Things can only get worse, when the population can't be controlled. In our area the Maggie population has at least trebled.

    Thanks for another great video Simon. I’ve also just bought a new Pro-Sport. A rifle I’ve always wanted but being left handed it wasn’t an option until a while ago AA started to make a left hand version. I browsed their website the other week to find it is discontinued to my horror!
    So I rang round several dealers and managed to find possibly the last one. Would have preferred a.177 but this is.22. Not too bothered as I have a TX in .177.
    Like yours it’s so nice!! So accurate. I can hit a 1” spinning target with every shot at 45 yards no sweat. Found it likes Falcon 13.43 pellets best. Fortunately they produce the most energy and shoot flattest. It just fantastic. The TX is just as good mind but the looks of the Pro-Sport are superb.
    There certainly is an art to shooting a springer accurately but when you find it these rifles are so good. Very timely video for me thanks very much.

    Are you using the side mounted camera to look through, so you don’t have to crank your head over to see through your left eye? That must be wonderful for you.
    Also people talk often about recoil. I haven’t shot one since I was a kid, but don’t remember it being anything like my 8mm Mauser 🙂. So I’m assuming it’s a different kind of recoil than a centre fire. I mean the bullet is basically out of the barrel before you even feel it, so with a springer I guess the release of the spring happens before the pellet gets sent or something like that?

    I love the Pro Sport. I got mine a few months back. I've looked at the Tactacam to mount on a scope several times, but wasn't sure if it would hold up on a springer. Have you had any issues? I ended up getting the one for a spotting scope for my airgun video's but really this is what I want rather than a sperate target cam.

      Hey Dave👍So I've wanted one of these beautiful rifles for years and years! The deal is this, the actual barrel is only just under 10 inches long, the rest is a shrouding put over it and nearly the final 10 inches of the barrel acts as a suppressor. Brilliant rifles in every way....... Except the price 😆. $1100 here in America for the Walnut version without a scope.

    General air rifle question.
    I'm looking for an air rifle that
    A. Won't shoot holes in shed tin.
    B. Can have picatiny rail for scope.
    C. Is relatively cheap
