Double deep conditioning has become my holy graille for length retention. I could not figure out why my hair would not grow past the middle of my back. Protein. I needed protein, especially on the ends...but I need moisture especially at the roots. Yeah. I do a protein deep condition followed by a moisture deep condition and my hair is getting longer.

    • @PowerInYourCurl

This is confirmation for me. I had what felt like an epiphany about double deep conditioning during my last wash day and since two other people have told me how it helps them boost their hair health. My hair's thirst for protein right now is ridiculous, lol. Do you do your treatments with heat and for how long do you usually let the different masks sit?

This is me i finally figured my porosity it’s high and I use protein weekly followed by a moisture deep condition and my hair got thicker and retained more length, I straighten this week to see my ends and I was shocked a little trim but overall I’m pleased.

@@PowerInYourCurl thanks for this. I will try double deep conditioning weekly and see what happens. My nape is 6 inches shorter than the rest of my hair...it broke off due to iron deficiency...which has resolved. It's growing back nicely. I don't think it's practical to cut my hair in an even style as my hair layers grows so differently. I get trimmed every 4 months. I will see what happens over the next 6-8 months.

I FINALLY got length after trying to grow my natural hair out since 2018. It is now in the middle of my back. My hair pattern & texture is like Kenya's. I've always deep conditioned and wore protective styles but I realized I was cutting it too often by trimming every 2-3 months. I also use to think my dry ends were damaged and needed to be trimmed bcus they were a drier and rougher texture but that's normal bcus that is the oldest part of my hair. I just needed to spend more time caring for and conditioning my ends to keep them soft and moisturized, not necessarily trim them so often. I now trim every 6 months!! In between time, I do cut off the little knots on a strand and also split stands. This method has worked wonders for me to get my hair to the length I wanted.

Yay!! Congratulations on your growth. In the beginning of my hair journey I had a big problem with over-trimming as well. 🥴 That's amazing that you're learning your hair and what works best for you! Do you trim your hair yourself?

I big chop 3 months ago because I needed a change. I was natural for 7 years and I made a mistake a year ago relaxing my hair; it was one of the worse decisions I've made for my hair. The upkeep of a relaxer was just challenging. I am restarting and I am BEYOND excited about my natural hair journey!!! This time around, I am embracing my curls!! It's defiantly growing and right now, wash and go are helping me.

I agree having a simple consistent regimen, trimming regularly and not manipulating you hair too much helps. When I was younger I kept my hair in a lose bun everyday and my hair was down my back. In more recent years, I've had a curly cut, color....etc. Now, I'm in a place where I'm going back to the basics. I'm keeping it simple but having fun. So some weeks, I'll have twists and others I'll have a blow out or a wash and go.

    Hi Kenya!
My hair journey has been a whirlwind since we first started working together! First, like you, I CANNOT live without my curl origin deep conditioner and leave in, especially the deep conditioner! Other moisture deep conditioners just don’t work for me.
Also, Like you, I keep getting breakage in the middle of my head. However, I don’t cut everything shorter. I just cut that section and tend to that section and as I trim the other areas, the middle just tends to catch up. I’ve also started changing my parts because I realize, I part the same way all the time and my hair is thinner around those areas.
Also, speaking of Innersense, the stylist I used for my wedding actually used all innersense products. While the wash and go looked great, my hair felt like straw. I could not go another day without putting some type of cream in it to moisturize it. So I’m not a fan
Overall, my hair is the longest it’s even been. I use my revair and trim at home. I’m sorry I have just yet to find a stylist I trust and I would think living in the DMV I would have found a good one by now but I haven’t. Went to a stylist one time and that was for my wedding and she BUTCHERED my hair. I ended up having to go behind her and trimming to even it out because it was literally a disaster or a trim. Because of her I don’t trust stylists.
Outside of a small areas in the middle, the rest of my hair is thriving! I am now 2 inches away from waist length!

    Hey Kenya,
Let's start out first by saying how bomb your hair is, I mean the shape and the length does it for me! Your hair looks so healthy and I'm so glad that you're back sharing all your secrets with us. I get what you're saying about dabbling in different products and that's definitely been an issue for me. However, my hair doesn't seem to care too much but I know it's better to have a consistent regimen with the products that I know work for my hair every time. Honestly I cannot stand twists, lol and I wear a wash and goes nearly all year long and honestly I view it as a protective style.... Many don't agree with that but I digress!!! One thing I can say is that I swear by curl origin and between you and Briana, have completely sold me on literally all of their products including Shescentit, which I adore. I love the fact that these products are so freaking nurturing to my strands. I really love the pattern Beauty leave in custard and both of their gels. I love Adowa as well especially their deep conditioner. Okay I'm going to stop here cuz you know I can go on and on 😄😄😄😄😄

Girl, I love your brown on Brown on BROWN look! It's sooo 🔥😍🙌🏾 and YES to the Revair! I will never ever go back either. It's so much easier to use the Revair and just not worry about damage which I love 🥰
On another note, it's so hard not to try a bunch of different products! I swear everything looks soooo good! lol!!!
I've also got issues with my hair right now. For example, I've been stuck in a length retention rut for a really long time now and its super frustrating because I'm not sure how to break this length retention rut. In terms of your question, other than my wigs, I don't really have a go to style that leads to length retention that I like. I enjoy using my Revair but I'm mindful of the fact that I cannot use it on an overly regular basis due to the heat and manipulation on my fine strands. I'm still looking for a cute style that works for my lifestyle which does not rely on wigs.. it's tough but I'm still trying to make it happen Sis! 💛
P.S. Your final message was everything! Thank you so much for this amazing video. Blessings and all the good things in life to you as well 💕🙏🏾

The longer it grows, the more time it takes. When it’s cut down to the scalp, regimen takes 10-15 minutes (Double Deep condition add 15-30 twice a week). So done with long hair.

Then Oct 1st I go back to my really strict regimen where I do mostly protective styles and tuck it away in cute turbans I get from You Go Natural. I still do my weekly cleanse and deep conditioning during the summer but I tend to do more WnGs because they're easier to maintain during the humid months. Your hair is beautiful...😊

During this service, I will create personalized at-home solutions to address your 3 biggest hair issues right now and I will also help you with beginning to understand your hair so that you can be your own trusted hair care source. There’s more info on this on my website PowerInYourCurl(.)com and if you would like to book just shoot me a message from my website. Your wash and go looks great, btw, and thank you for sharing your tried and true regimen. I’ve been wanting to try the Curl Origins and Briogeo products ever since you first used them on your channel. Right now, my routine is so simple, which has much reduced crown breakage and the hole I have in the middle back of my hair. Those are definitely my weak spots, but wearing my hair in chunky twists and plaits most days and not letting my hair get as dry as the Sahara has been so beneficial lately. However, I do take my hair down and wear my fro out once a week to relieve the tension on my scalp. In the past, high puffs and buns helped with growth and retention, so I plan to revisit those styles again soon too. Plus, the products I repeat buy more than anything are oils and butters, and those are not all created equal. I lean towards the super softening ones, because my hair can feel super brittle in some areas, at times.

The smell is not great, but I’m about to mix it with some oils and a bit of lavender essential oil. I recently watched a video by Natural Nadine she states that most African American hair is high porosity by nature, when a lot of us are thinking our hair is low porosity (if it hasn't been relaxed or color treated). She references crime scene investigations where police can determine the race of a suspect based on their hair noting that most African American hair has raised cuticles ( high porsity). Please comment on this and tell me your opinion. Thank You! P.S. - I think this topic would make a great video.

How do you use the leave in versus the hair milk?

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  2 года назад +5

That’s a good question! I use them at the same time usually and layer the milk over the leave-in. The leave-in is very light and starts my foundation of moisture. The milk is a bit thicker and creamier. It adds more moisture into my hair and helps me retain moisture throughout the week. Depending on what style I’m doing, I’ll follow the milk with a styler (like gel or mousse) or a thicker cream to add even more moisture.
