@Robert The Hunter Fields is a great prospect, but he has some clear weaknesses. They have been discussed a lot. I think the main one is his "hitch" or what I call an over exaggerated wind up. Watch teh videos, he takes his right arm way back before he comes forward I've been watching his mechanics for 2 years, every game. His brilliant throws come when he has time to wind up, He won't get those opportunities in teh NFL. So, his challenge is to get the same zip on teh ball with a quicker release/ less exaggerated wind up.
@Robert The Hunter I didn't say he has bad mechanics, his mechanics are excellent, but he has to speed up his throwing motion and get a quicker release. Quick releases is one of teh things that separates good NFL QBs and wash outs. Several analysts have discussed this, Chris Simms broke this down really well, you can find his analysis on NBC sports videos
@Robert The Hunter Payton Manning slow release, no, sorry. Same goes for Russ, Favre, etc., they all have quicker release than Fields showed in college. Not saying he can't get coached up, for the record. There are throwing QB coaches guru types.
He's better than RG3. Kyle Shanahan will make this young man the best QB in the NFL. Rookie of the year, superbowl champion with a MVP all in his first year. Kyle Shanahan + Justin Fields = Unstoppable!!🔥🔥
You're way too ignorant to be talking. Shanahan has totally ruined every young QB he's ever worked with. Look how great he did with Johnny Manziel. He will surely ruin the next one as well.

The most hilarious thing about the “he is from this school so that’s how he will turn out thing” is that Joe Burrow is an OSU qb and much more so than Fields who originally went to uga. Fields issues seem to be similar to the ones that people had about Justin Herbert, but Herbert came out and wrecked the league last year. I’m not sure if comparisons are fair these days, because the athleticism has gone up for qbs over the years but their skills have as well. With all of these top guys other than Lance I think their tape of just passing alone would be enough to still be day 1 or 2 talent at the position. Cause if we are gonna be honest all of fields best plays have been passes.
Great video! Very in depth and informative. Fields reminds me of a cross between Cam Newton and Russell Wilson. He has a similar build to Cam and plays with reckless abandon at times. Fields can drive the down field with great touch and accuracy like Russ.
Hey man! I haven't looked at Trey Lance yet. He's next week! So I would be lying to you if I had a strong opinion on this question... Next week, however, I will gladly answer it so please ask it again if I don't address it haha
Love the hero ball being able to come alive when he's in the league tho cuz at the end of the day rn plays are plays eventually the older he gets the more of a better passer he'll be.
While you’re doing your wrap up commentary it’s kind of ironic that he’s moving around in the pocket to buy time left and right. I think at times he thought his guy had the block then completely whiffs the block then sack. That happened a lot at Ohio state. Yes his hero ball game against Indiana was weird. But compared to every other game he played that was an outlier. Zach Wilson and Lawrence also struggle when their blocking isn’t elite. Hell Zach Wilson’s best year was this year when his line was better than everyone else’s. Also look at CC the only team to really get to him and you see a lot of his bad throwing tendencies from 2019. I hate that Fields has 2 rough games and those are his defining games and every other QB those are treated as anomalies. When they had similar or higher frequency of bad plays.
Totally agree. I'm a Jets and Bears fan, and since my Jets are obviously drafting Wilson, I hoped the Bears would trade up for Fields, but it appears the 49ers are gonna get him. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them win the West
For the record, I'm not saying that every play was bad. But consistently it was. I can show you a poor example and a great example from every QB in this class. It's a sliding scale and I saw more bad then good when it came to his pocket awareness.
Sam I’m a big fan of yours and think you’re spot on most of the time. RG3 though? I can’t see it my brother. Fields reminds me of a slightly less mobile/physically dominate Cam Newton with better accuracy and poise in the pocket. Fields work ethic and leadership is why he’ll be great. The man brought Big 10 football back this year.(don’t tell President Trump that though lol) Also, I think it’s absurd for people to have Wilson, Lance, and Max Jones ranked above Fields. Then again, it’s a Blessing and a Curse. Fields may fall in the draft but he’ll be going to a better team than most of the other QBs. If Fields lands with the Panthers, WFT, Bears, or Patriots, THEN ITS A WRAP! I think he’ll be contending for ROY with whatever QB the 49ers draft(bc of Shanahan IF he starts his rookie QB to begin with) Keep up the great work Sam but I couldn’t let this one slide my boy. 🤣
It is pretty much 50/50 with these quarterbacks. I think it comes down to processing speed. If processing speed is lacking, it seems to manifest itself in holding the ball too long, lack of pocket awareness due to being glued downfield, locking in on one receiver, and a lack of accuracy as a result of rushing. If the processing is there, accuracy and quick release come next. How fast a guy is or how strong his arm is are way down the list for me. I wonder how many years it will take to know if Fields is the guy.
Buckeye fan and I watched every game he played. I can tell you this is spot on. This is the exact problems I’ve noticed in his game and I really think his arm talent is very close to wilson and Lawrence. I’m just scared he will have injury issues with how he takes hits on runs and in the pocket. Scared but I hope it goes well.
@@famousdre843 not true. Almost everything was about using his arm. Ryan Day was not a huge fan of him running with the football. He already takes enough damage from keeping his eyes so far down field
And he's gone to the Bears. Which will either mean he gets killed by our worse than average line and we get a new coach, or he balls out and saves Pace and Nagy's jobs for a few more seasons. (Which could be said about a lot of hot seat staff this year, but bear with me.)

I hope he does well but the OSU qb comparison does have some merit i think. Ohio State typically recruits better than their counterparts (Penn St and Michigan) Also unlike the SEC, the Big 10 isn't littered with powerhouses (see Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn, South Carolina) so OSU qbs enjoy having a roster thats usually vastly superior to the teams they're playing. While maybe its unfair to compare him to previous buckeye qbs, there simply hasn't been ONE to come from there and be successful at the next level.
You doing a great job you know Justin Fields scored the highest among 6000-7000 pro athlete on dr. Goldman AIQ test scoring 130 higher than Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen among other notables and most sports critics know but refused to talk about it
Not that I would know but I keep reading that Justin Fields doesn't love football like the great ones do. I hear he doesn't study constantly like Brady and Manning have done. That has me thinking Fields will project just like RG3's career.
First play wasn't his fault that extra rusher caused him to move and look away before the receiver dropped and set. I guess this guy missed the Ohio coaches breakdown that they intentionally have fields wait and hold the ball. He is told to ignore the short routes open or not.
This analysis Isn't very good when you don't do your research on all the variables as a whole. OSU had Oline issues all year, injuries all year. Covid was a big factor for several of those very games you highlighted where many OSU starting players weren't able to play. Fields obviously has things he can improve on, however, him keeping his eyes down field going through his progressions, and trusting the OL and scheme. It shows his upside, toughness, and process. Again, he has things to fix, but, you are not factoring In a lot of things that contributed to your "weaknesses" for, Fields.
why would you be looking for your O line to get beat instead of looking down field? Especially if the guy is coming up the middle after he beat your right guard within 2.5seconds
Huh. Your RGIII comparison makes me think the 49ers might jump on him. He really doesn't strike me as a Patriot with Belichick because of pocket awareness

I understand he has an exceptional 40 time, but I'm not seeing a lot of quickness or athleticism in these clips. Also, his footwork seems very inconsistent and off balance regularly. Guessing I'd put any of the other 4 above him in terms of success.
This guy said that a knock on Mac Jones was the talent around him....as if Justin Fields didn't have MORE five stars to they're to. I'm not knocking fields, just saying the assessments aren't consistent. If you're using team talent to knock a QB, you'll use it to knock Fields and Lawrence too.
When I hear most successful people talk they’re interesting to listen too no matter what their field of expertise. Take Mahomes as an example speaks well for himself. Listening to Justin Fields unfortunately is like listening to Derrick Rose. Just doesn’t sound like there’s a lot up their personality wise. He says “for the fact that” a lot as a verbal crutch just as D Rose did. Not trying to rip on the guy. I just find him a big letdown in interviews. Hopefully he will prove me wrong and be an excellent top tier/5 NFL QB.
You show his highlights and I see a collage setup, which make an evaluation of how he will play in the NFL hard. He sets his feet and other than an outlet target 10 yards away he is throwing in the direction of that setup period. You see him scramble and he is still looking in that direction, he knows anything he throws at that point beyond 10 or 15 yards is likely a jump ball and he runs a lot for that reason. It is not an uncommon problem in collage, draw a line through the feet on the initial setup and you have the general direction of the throw, coaches layer patterns in that direction because they are trying to give him multiple options. At his worst he is inaccurate, I think that comes when he loses focus on the target area and comes back to it for a moment them throws, a moment instead of seconds of pre-throw focus is a majors problem. Show me every play where he sets up, gets knocked off that setup, and eventually throws the ball more than 10 or 15 yards to some outlet, how does he look, what are his numbers.
I dont know man.. seems like some pretty huge weaknesses to me. Athletic or not qb play in the nfl always comes down to pocket awareness, ability to go through progressions and arm talent. Arm strength and deep accuracy is there but im not sure about short to intermediate accuracy. He doesn’t seem very good at extending plays either.
And yet he isn't accurate. Doesn't get the ball out quickly. Has NO anticipation. At what point don't you realize there's a reason he was still there and would have still been there in 2cd round. He doesn't learn , word was last in first out of team meetings . He's an athlete not a qb.

@@footballrealitycheck9927 ur actually so dumb. Under his coaching Matt Ryan won mvp. He made Brian hoyer throw far 3,300 yds. He made matt schaub a pro bowler. And he was an offensive coordinator in Cleveland for one yr so how is it his fault?
@@footballrealitycheck9927 Manziel ruined himself by being a drug addict/ alcoholic and focusing on partying more than learning by the playbook and working on his craft. Not to mention Manziel had 1/10th of the talent Fields has
yikes.
As a Bears fan, there's never been a QB in my lifetime i've been more excited about to be a Bear. I do think Fields will need to adjust and check down a bit more but other than that. He checks all the boxes for me
“Shows growth in his mistakes” takes the hitch but the slot has the safety and corner out leveraged for an easy 6 3:35 ~
Happens to all QBs.
Great video! I agree with what you said with Fields. I do think also that when Fields gets rattled from pressure, he struggles badly.
Sounds like Zach Wilson to me...
This statement is false. He often took big hits while delivering strikes in the pocket.
Every QB struggles with pressure. Look at how #1 Everything Lawrence did against OSU.
As a sidelight, Urban Meyer played J. T. Barrett over both Joe Burrow and Dwayne Haskins. We'll see how he does in the NFL.
Great video! Very in depth and informative. Fields reminds me of a cross between Cam Newton and Russell Wilson. He has a similar build to Cam and plays with reckless abandon at times. Fields can drive the down field with great touch and accuracy like Russ.
Will this be the pick that helps Chicago fans get over drafting Trubisky when Mahomes was passed over? Time will tell.
sam idk if you’ll see this but u think the 49ers should take fields or lance at 3?
Hey man! I haven't looked at Trey Lance yet. He's next week! So I would be lying to you if I had a strong opinion on this question... Next week, however, I will gladly answer it so please ask it again if I don't address it haha
He’s become underrated...
Real film grinders know the scheme and Oline did NOT help Fields this year.
You nailed it!! Predicting the Browns Game!
The man brought Big 10 football back this year.(don’t tell President Trump that though lol)
Also, I think it’s absurd for people to have Wilson, Lance, and Max Jones ranked above Fields. Then again, it’s a Blessing and a Curse. Fields may fall in the draft but he’ll be going to a better team than most of the other QBs. If Fields lands with the Panthers, WFT, Bears, or Patriots, THEN ITS A WRAP! I think he’ll be contending for ROY with whatever QB the 49ers draft(bc of Shanahan IF he starts his rookie QB to begin with)
Keep up the great work Sam but I couldn’t let this one slide my boy. 🤣
Hahah. It's okay if you disagree with me on this one! I've watched SO MUCH RG3 that I can't unsee it now. HOPEFULLY he crushes it in the NFL.

Love your videos!
Nice analysis
It is pretty much 50/50 with these quarterbacks. I think it comes down to processing speed. If processing speed is lacking, it seems to manifest itself in holding the ball too long, lack of pocket awareness due to being glued downfield, locking in on one receiver, and a lack of accuracy as a result of rushing. If the processing is there, accuracy and quick release come next. How fast a guy is or how strong his arm is are way down the list for me. I wonder how many years it will take to know if Fields is the guy.
@samuelgold rg3 and Snyder actually wanted himself to be a pocketpasser, shanagan wanted him to stay a dynamic qb
Also, love the hard work and analysis man. Otherwise I wouldn't be here
Buckeye fan and I watched every game he played. I can tell you this is spot on. This is the exact problems I’ve noticed in his game and I really think his arm talent is very close to wilson and Lawrence. I’m just scared he will have injury issues with how he takes hits on runs and in the pocket. Scared but I hope it goes well.
I feel like he wasn't coached enough to use his arm more than his legs
@@famousdre843 not true. Almost everything was about using his arm. Ryan Day was not a huge fan of him running with the football. He already takes enough damage from keeping his eyes so far down field
@@famousdre843 Did you watch any OSU games? He does pass first

And he's gone to the Bears. Which will either mean he gets killed by our worse than average line and we get a new coach, or he balls out and saves Pace and Nagy's jobs for a few more seasons. (Which could be said about a lot of hot seat staff this year, but bear with me.)
Before the Jets won 2 games and eased my mind. I too had to get cofortable with Fields. What kind of fan am I?
03:00 That’s not open if the CB is not bailing, he could close that gap.
Good analysis 👍
Good breakdown and I still I think Wilson is better since he has better arm talent and pocket poise.
The guy who rolls out of the pocket almost every play has better pocket awareness? Idk about that
@@ThelegendTMC dude he rolls out because he knows when it is breaking down. People also hate on Lamar for rolling out when his pocket collapse but it’s cuz of pocket awareness. There’s a reason the creator agrees with me 😝
No true weaknesses. He will need to live another down and use his physical traits.
For the people who say an Ohio state QB doesn’t translate to the nfl, name the last Texas tech QB that translated to the nfl before Mahomes? Shit name the Clemson QB that translated to the nfl before Watson... all of that is to say, it’s the player not the school.
to me it’s pretty simple. you want Cam Newton you take Fields! you want Aaron Rodgers take Wilson!
Lazy comps tbh. Also Aaron Rodgers wasn't "Aaron Rodgers" until he was "Aaron Rodgers". Alex Smith went number 1 and Rodgers fell far. He's also a top 5 of all time great at the position, so you're also being overly hyperbolic.

Besides trent they have a shit oline tho lol. If mack can return to form they'll be decent
Goldman AIQ test scoring 130 higher than Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen among other notables and most sports critics know but refused to talk about it
Because it don't fit the narrative about he can't read defenses
Not that I would know but I keep reading that Justin Fields doesn't love football like the great ones do. I hear he doesn't study constantly like Brady and Manning have done. That has me thinking Fields will project just like RG3's career.
First play wasn't his fault that extra rusher caused him to move and look away before the receiver dropped and set. I guess this guy missed the Ohio coaches breakdown that they intentionally have fields wait and hold the ball. He is told to ignore the short routes open or not.
He is if we want Sewell OT or Chase WR
You aren't looking at your o line. You use your peripheral vision to sense it, and he didn't do that.
Huh. Your RGIII comparison makes me think the 49ers might jump on him. He really doesn't strike me as a Patriot with Belichick because of pocket awareness
If the RG3 comparisons are true, doubt Shanahan will touch him with a 10 foot pole
@@chuck430 Tbf the Shanahans liked RG3 until his ego got in the way. They changed their entire offense for him installing pistol read option runs and stuff.

Love fields. Dont want him sacrificing his body too much though.
I still think he’s the 3rd best prospect but it’s worrying that most of his biggest problems are mental
I don't agree or disagree, but what do you mean?
Would it be easier to coach Justin Fields to eliminate those mental mistakes, or coach Mac Jones to run a 4:4?
He is a smaller cam newton that is more accurate.
RG3 wasn't a pocket passer
Great vid. I hope the rumors are true of niners like Lance over fields so the panthers can grab him.
Probably an introvert
Not really charismatic
Don't worry about it he always like this but u do got a franchise qb
And Derrick rose was successful until injuries happened
Btw his zodiac sign is a pieces
Chris Simms told the same thing hopefully he sit 1 year wherever he goes and be more fundamental at quarterback

Wait, so this isn’t Adam Shefter?
