In my latest video breakdown, I wanted to jump ahead to look at Ja'Marr Chase, LSU's top wide receiver who already declared for the 2021 NFL Draft due to concerns over COVID. It's clear that after watching him closely on film, he's going to be a great player. The way he stems his routes, how creates yards after the catch, and how he aggressively attacks the ball out of the air are what makes him a great prospect. I think he's going to make whatever team that drafts him extremely happy. This video is almost 11 minutes long. Hope you enjoy the show!

Whoa his combine stats were INCREDIBLE. 4.38 40 yard dash. 41 inch vertical. 11 foot broad jump... That's 95th(!) percentile in those metrics!!
Pro day times not the combine. Add .05 to .1 to those times but he still killed that workout and is WR 1 in this Draft. DeVonte didn’t even workout or get on a scale he probably weighs less than 160lbs.
@@Steve_643 I saw a frame by frame analysis of his 40, and he got a 4.383. and this was from the moment his hand left the field, which adds a little bit of time compared to a hand start at the combine. So if he ran at the combine, his time could have been even faster.

You were right, he's the 4th best receiver in the NFL through week 7. He just smashed the record for the rookie with the most receiving yards in his first 7 NFL games by more than 100 yards!

My only question was his speed and he ran far faster then expected at a 4.38. This improvement plus film makes me think he is the number 1 WR even after smith's Heisman season

There is much better option in my opinion take Kyle Pitts. Yes, I know you guys have Mike Gesicki but adding him in there would add a two headed monster. Kyle can line out wide as well. Having pitts and mike on the same field would be trouble some.

@@busorenkin55 *Facepalm* Kyle Pitts is a Wide Receiver dummy and he also can line up in the TE when receiving position man you guys are slow. He isn't your pure TE he is more of a WR who can line up at TE. That what makes him a mismatch and makes him more talented than any other receiver in this draft.
Chase plays very effortless in many ways and I wonder if he can continue to track the ball so effectively while being almost nonchalant before attacking the ball. I REally trust Samuels opinion but he reminds me of OBJ a little and I just wonder about Cincinnati picking him without being elite in one category as a #1 WR, Cincinnati already has 2 or 3 #2-3 WRs and just feel like I need to see more film before I’m sold on my Bengals taking him in the first round

@@s0ldieralways Yeah my point still stands . chase has a better qb and other receivers who open the defense up more so he able to show his abilities more . smith has shown to be wide open plenty of times but hurts is super inaccurate at times
he can create separation with his speed, routes, and body, but like i dont think chase plays well against press man coverage he struggles to get off the DB and create separation, but once he gets up to full speed or gets to the top of his stem he can say “im faster than you” or break wherever he wants to go to get open
No he doesnt😂that’s one of his best attributes is his strength. He was one of the best weightlifters at LSU and you seen how he threw diggs off him when he tried to press him and diggs is like 6’2
Chiefs learned that press man coverage doesn't work against this man. 266 yards and 3 touchdowns later.
It’s not always about speed, Antonio Brown ran a 4.6 40 yard dash. This guy is gonna be special in the NFL

Adams/AB like mix in my opinion. Think he's looked at as the 1st WR off the board, but Smith with Tua could be a big time possibility look for Miami.

My pro comps are mostly about skill sets for the pure positions. Obviously no comparison will be exactly correct, but the main traits - competitiveness, YAC, route running, etc... are all there for those two guys.

@@vince11harris Look at Cooper Kupp. Real slow. There are a lot of slow great receivers and a lot of duds that were super fast.
@@vince11harris How about John Ross of the Bengals? A 4.22 40 at the Combine. How about Justin Gilbert of the Browns, ran a 4.37 and was picked 8th overall? Or Kevin White the overall 7th pick of the Bears? Was a great prospect big WR who ran a 4.35. Or Tavin Austin who was picked 7th overall by the Rams? Ran a 4.34. Or Phillip Dorset? Ran a 4.33. Or one of the more well known speedsters, Darius Heyward Bey. He ran a 4.30 40! Or Jacoby Ford of the Raiders. 4.29 40 time! Or JJ Nelson of the Cardinals? 4.28 speedster!
Speed alone does not guarantee success in the NFL as the above players show.
Here are some GREAT players that were much slower than these speedsters who were very successful in the NFL!

As a bengals fan, now that Penei is probably unattainable I would love to add Chase to Burrow, Higgins, Boyd and Mixon. Would give us incredible weapons but would have to shore up the offensive line both in the later rounds and FA. Who Dey

@@JoeMama10247 nothing wrong with your prediction at the time especially after Smith's Heisman season but i think what people forget is Smith did that as a senior, Chase did it as a true sophmore on a tougher schedule whilst cooking high end talent like AJ Terrell, Trevon Diggs and CJ Henderson along the way

7:03 Just my $0.02 but the reason Henderson was able to recover on the deep ball to Chase had more to do with Burrow underthrowing it than anything else. Wasn't really a reflection of Chase's athleticism

I don’t understand how people say he’s not a great athlete. He seems to make some incredible athletic catches and seems to be extremely athletic getting open. So what he doesn’t run a 4.3, give me the 4.45-4.5 guy that can make tough playoff catches. No one on the Tampa Bay Bucs runs a 4.3 besides Scotty Miller and he’s the #4 WR.

You ever watch DeAndre Hopkins? Dude gets no separation but is one of the best WRs in the NFL who gets doubles every play. You don’t need to be wide open every play to be effective in the NFL.

This was a good break down. Chase's game is centered around strength as he's one of the best weight lifters on LSU's team and probably the best pound for pound. I've always said he's an exact blend of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham as his attributes seem to be right down the middle of the two. A more direct comparison I've heard is Golden Tate. If he can get his 40 time around 4.45 he will be a lock for top 5 but I wouldn't be surprised if he ran in the low 4.5s.

@@ericgarrison3569 I'm not here to argue. Been watching Chase since he was in highschool and speed he's never been a burner. His tape backs up that he's not a burner to the trained eye. He's about a low 4.5 high 4.4. He's working hard to try and get to that 4.45 number but it wouldn't be held against him if he doesn't unless he runs in the 4.6s which is what he ran his freshman year. But I've seen a lot of fans that don't know any better think he runs in the 4.3s and all I'll say is I would be beyond pleasantly surpriseds along with everyone else if he did.
@@charlessmith4487 he runs relaxed so it looks like he's running slow but look at how easily he pulls away from the field. If you really saw him at Rummel you would know this. But he finally got a chance to show it with that first TD against the Chiefs. Straight speed

Even Chase admit before he came to college he wasn't that fast and really had to work on his flexibility and got even faster in his training when he sat out the season. This is out of Chase'e mouth and even repeated by his dad in an interview. So while you're trying to check me on what he did in highschool, not even Chase agrees with you. Applaud the man for working on any perceived weakness and turned himself into a monster.
