    Perhaps if the Friars would wear their tunic(habit) the vocations would flourish. No, the habit does NOT make the Friar. However the habit identifies the Friar as a servant of God. The habit says to others, 'how may i serve you?' (See Phillipians 2:7-9) The habit is most excellent for evangelization. The habit is a sacramental and helps not only the Friar, but by example, assists others along their journey to holiness. Pax et bonum.

    Was great to catch a glimpse of Bro.Dan Horan. I noticed that a majority of Friars aren't our age but much older. Maybe your videos will inspire more to listen to their calling like I did. Will keep you all in my prayers

    • @BreakingInTheHabit

      M Bee it is an old joke among our friars. Apparently a provincial minister said it at a gathering many years ago, calling to attention how diverse the friars were, as if we were “different faiths.”

    • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury 6 лет назад +1

      Breaking In the Habit -- I wasn't familiar with the joke, but my first thought was the rundown of all the different Franciscans, with different missions. They can seem so vastly different...yet they're all part of God's "workforce." One of my favorite Scripture verses says each person has a different role to play in the Church. It's a favorite because I'm a primary schoolteacher, so my role is to foster and encourage children to find theirs. I'll keep y'all in my prayers as you move forward, however slowly.

    • @m.d.b.6318
      @m.d.b.6318 6 лет назад

      🌞There could be merit in what you call a joke. However from the older friar's tone & demeanor it is difficult to detect. I wonder if by "different faiths" could mean more. If that older friar could clarify his words but that is not to be. Prayers sent your way and for your noble Order to remain true sons of St. Francis of Asisi during these times when being Catholic can be *very* difficult in a faithless world!🌞

    • @m.d.b.6318
      @m.d.b.6318 6 лет назад

      🌞Be careful Jonathan Tinnely. Calling a religious order out shouldn't be done lightly or by a lay person. Let Catholic theologians decide. Besides, do you not know, you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar, neighbor? God bless.🌞

    Being a missionary is a great responsibility! The missionary must have great energy, fortitude and courage. Wherever the missionary goes, in whatever part of the world he is in, he must spread the Word. The local people must understand what the missionary is saying to them. The missionary must get the Word right to the people! Therefore, every missionary must know the language of the local people! To everyone who is going on a mission or preparing for one I would like to recommend a very good workshop by Yuriy Ivantsiv Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language. This excellent book will give you answers how to correctly learn a foreign language with a minimum of your time and effort. This book answers many of the questions that everyone faces when learning a language. Good luck with your important work!

      Missionaries are not social activists because it interferes with their work of proving that the religion and her spirituality are viable. For that you need Diocesan secular clergy.
      The religious are trying to prove that Christianity works in fullness. Secular clergy often don't want to be burdened. Don't confuse the two.

    Awesome! This proves that big changes are always a real possibility! And this lead me to this treacky question, brother... Do you think that, just as the big 7 provintials in the US come together as one, will be a day where all the 3 main franciscan orders (ofm, ofmcap, ofmconv) come together as a whole one Franciscan order? A really hard question isnt it? Hahaha God bless you, brother!

    • @BreakingInTheHabit
      @BreakingInTheHabit  6 лет назад

      I think that is a much bigger question and I'm not sure. Honestly, I don't think so, and I'm fine with that. As long as we can collaborate and treat each other as brothers with a shared charism, I'm fine with three perspectives on the life of St. Francis.

    We're the Franciscans doing something bad? You said a day that will "live on in infamy" do you know what that means? Infamy is something notoriously bad. You seem to think the quote from FDR about infamy means a famous day but rather it means to be remembered for its evil happenings. How can I say this nicely. Think before you post. Your "enthusiasm" would be better received if it were backed by knowledge.
