- I tried to see how far I could get in a blind run of Pokemon Emerald Kaizo. That means no calcs, no docs, and only limited game knowledge from a casual playthrough of the game I did years ago!
Pokémon Emerald Kaizo is an advanced difficulty romhack of Pokemon Emerald created by SinisterHoodedFigure - / sinisterhfigure

Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first Pokémon on each route.
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle) - Note: Level cap for Roxanne is +1, because this game is HARD!
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Pokémon Emerald on the GameBoy advanced was my first ever Pokémon game. I remember the game would corrupt and delete the save file whenever the console was turned off. Had to keep it on for a week straight just to finish it. Great memories

I remember something similar happening to me with Pokemon BW where the cartridge was second hand. It had a save file already on there with the entire main story completed and a Serperior. Until I found out how to delete save files I just kept trying to keep my DS on charge for as long as possible, but I think I only got as far as Castelia City. I think I started doing this with other games as well when I couldn't save before my parents told me not to.
I had a copy of Metroid Fusion as a kid that had the same problem. I feel your pain.
When I was about 7 I hopped on my file of Gold and when I got past the menu it told me the game couldn't save or something like that, and it was because the internal battery had died. I had just gotten to Ice Path and I knew how close I was to finishing the game so it really hurt, and losing my Typhlosion was the worst part of it. Years later I decided to dedicate a week of my to nonstop playing the game to see if I could beat it, and I made it to the elite 4. Believe the team was Feraligatr, Furret, Togetic, Espeon, the shiny Gyarados and something else. Koga's Forretress screwed me bad since I didn't teach anyone a fire move and I figured I'd made it farther than I ever did as a kid so I was content with letting it go.
I really appreciate you for doing this, I have a close family member that has breast cancer that spread to her brain, so seeing people raising money and awareness for cancer really warms my heart. Thank you for doing this ❤️

Dude, I've never seen someone being so happy playing a blind room hack run, it reminded me when I started playing Pokémon, not knowing a shit 'bout it, this made my day, keep the good work

That's just showing the immense difficulty of this game
PC: Takes a dozen attempts at a trainer at the end of a bridge to figure out the right strat.
PapiHG: Gets through it accidentally first attempt.

I was kinda confused at what happened at the end. He didn’t wipe so why didn’t he keep going? I don’t remember him saying that it was only through the first gym if he said that I missed it

🎉26:00, emerald AI has a quirk which occurs if all 3 of the following conditions are fulfilled:
1) its current pokemon is slower than yours.
2) it's current pokemon has a speed control move (meaning a move that can either raise its own speed or lower its opponents.
3) none of its moves can kill your pokemon with a non-critical hit.
If all 3 of these conditions are fulfilled, the AI will always go for the speed control move, even if it has other moves that will do significantly more damage.
this is why the sudowoodo went for rock tomb first, then ice punch after the speed drop meant it was now faster than the oddish.
I'm sure Flygon can beat this game with his skills when there are no weird donation goals (huge respect for the charity stream) but this game is so hard. I've personally completed every "insanely hard romhack" except for this one, it requires so much planning different skills and constant attention i just can't do it.
Edit: it also requires extreme knowledge of how the AI works, what it switches in next and encounter routing to an extreme degree, however all of this has already been pre planned for you by the ek nuzlocke community with numerous docs and videos.

at 25:58 you ask why the AI didn't use ice punch first.
If the AI can't kill (without a crit) it prioritizes speed control moves.
So turn one was rock tomb. Speed drop. Then become faster than your oddish. Then it used ice punch.
If it used ice punch first your oddish would have gotten 2 turns instead of 1.
Loved the video. I know that you prefer to plan ahead and avoid going blind into difficult / unfair challenges but from a viewers perspective this is so much fun to watch.

I like this I feel like complete blind playthroughs are much more fun to watch.
I'd recommend doing that harder pokemon x/y rom blind. It's not much longer than normal xy, so new attempts don't cost too much time and give you the chance to redeem unfortunate losses due to unpreparedness
