- I competed in a release day race of Pokémon Run & Bun against thirteen other Nuzlockers to be the first to collect four gym badges. The event was hosted by Pokémon Challenges, check out his content and coverage of the event here - / @pokemonchallenges
Pokémon Run & Bun is an advanced difficulty romhack of Pokemon Emerald created by Dekzeh ( / dekzeh1 )!

Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch one Pokémon per route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader (game enforced, but select Rare Candies can be used to break the level cap!)
6. Play on manual "Set" battle mode

I love how the normally trash male combee went from being a sacrifice in one of the early fights to the strongest member of the team

@@rosetteprism8640 probably easier (in terms of modding the game) to do it that way than let vespiquen be male
@@monkeydetonation Not really? Vespiquen is Gen IV and this is a Gen III base, so Combee/Vespiquen had to be added wholesale anyway. Vespiquen could have been made a 50/50 ratio. EDIT: or more correctly, to avoid Marill>Azumarill-style issues, match Combee's gender ratio of 1:8. Or made the entire line 50/50.
On the other hand, if adding the Pokemon was just done via plugging in decomp resources obtained from the modding community at large, then the only change made was to allow all Combee to evolve, and because it's purely a difficulty/mechanics hack, no attention was given to anything that wasn't immediately for balancing.
Nothing wrong with just making sure the battles work as intended and not worrying about aesthetic changes, of course, just worth noting.

Even before it evolved, its a combee, it was expected to die after eating croagunks berrry, and then it carried the rest of the fight.

no it doesn’t…. I’d prefer they didn’t ruin the flavor pokemon to appeal to the small amount of nuzlockers who play the modern games
@@gameinsane4718 they already shot themselves in the foot by having that already exist in Beedrill, they shouldve just made vespiqueen a option for female weedle/kakuna instead of making a whole new pokemon thats just honeycomb of which 87.5% of them are useless

What i love about these Romhacks is that you see pokemon in unevolded stages, which you normally only see in their final evolution in the end game.
Fun thing about the fable. You are supposed to see the tortoise and the hare both as yourself, not as you and a competitor. You are the tortoise, you are also the hare, it's how you balance the two that defines your life strategy
isnt that undercut by the fact that the turtle wins the race? seems that, if so, aesop would be implying not a balance, but a prescription to always take it slow

Great video. glad you were able to participate and enjoyed your time even though you had to leave early, it was fun to be commentating your (and many other great players) gameplay throughout the race.
I laughed at the tortoise and the hair part. Realized that you were talking about yourself then I got a little annoyed. You have lots of nuzlocke experience with the vanilla games, you’re just behind with romhacks. I’m sure if you pursue the challenges of more romhacks you can be on an even the playing field. You did as great as always ❤

@@FlygonHG I don’t like it when people downplay themselves, I had a bad experience in the past where my friend talked about herself badly a lot and it ended up becoming a serious matter. But looking back at the video I know that you weren’t meaning it in that sense.
@@sloane2222 yeah Flygon is a very careful planner typically and that's just a straight up good nuzlocke skill lol, meanwhile I lose like 60% of my runs rushing into shit being unprepared.

Steven Bradbury won the Olympics by staying last when everyone else fell all at once, letting him cruise to victory. He is quite proud of this achievement. He played to win, not to do well. It was an all in gamble that payed off.

I think the level caps only apply to exp gain, as hitting it stops the mons from getting anything from battle. So because he used a Rare Candy, he bypassed the cap by a level.
