The part about Chaos not having unit regiment numbers stood out to me. I get the argument they are chaotic they wouldn't, however I think the precedent is there that they know how to plan and organize still. How else do explain the organization charts, victory conditions, stratagems, etc. And I think it makes sense too in that they are corrupted marines that the military doctrine is still in them to some degree and they understood its effectiveness. Further also is they ordinate themselves with iconography. So its not a totally foreign concept to their corrupted minds. And theres the bit about them being in different stages of chaos. I really think there's a good case for some of them to wear regiment/squad numbers or markings.
I have to admit this is my new favourite podcast. You are both great speakers and your wargaming stories are really interesting. Please do not stop making these.
Nihilakh is my favourite Necron colour scheme! Never knew Peachy had a hand in inventing that - that's cool that it still lives on as an official thing 😁
I'm painting Orks these days and it feels great to not be stuck with one color scheme. It's a mixed WAAAGH so they're just mashed up with different skin colors (got some turqouise orks in there too) and different armor colors, some references to the big ones, others without any specifics, just neutral colors.
7:25 that’s exactly why I gave up on red corsairs. I’d figured out how to do random patters of red and black and make it look good on chaos space marines, but my first terminator and I was like “Shit.”
It was nice hearing how you'd do twists on classic army schemes if you were to do them, mainly due to being an Ultramarines player who goes for Kantor blue as the base colour.
Really enjoying listening to these chats while transferring paint to dropper bottles. You both play of each other really well and the conversation flows. Big thumbs up from me keep it up!
It was the Kabal of the Flayed Skull he did in the raiders of Commorragh book. That sold me on doing the kabal troops as that [i don't know how or what I will do with the much maligned Archon though} I had found out Peachy done them saying it was one of the first minis he painted for GW while employed
Peachy, you have lived my dream. To kitbash a character and have it be made into an official character. To get artwork of them would be a cherry on top. Peachy, you could always do a different colour skin for orks, have it be tied to the lore of the orks. Maybe something in their planet's environment forced a change.
I think the Mentors are modelled after like US Green Berets where the idea isn't that this small special forces squad they've dropped in your country is the threat, it's actually the army of rebels/insurgents they'll have organized and trained in 6 months that is. At least that's the vibe I got from it. If memory serves, their role currently is hopping around Imperium Nihilus re-connecting with chapters that have gone dark since the Cicatrix and making sure they've gotten the primaris genestock and are integrating it well. Great book.
I've got a similar idea to Peachy in terms of linking my armies in a sub sector that was colonised by the Welsh. My Space Marines use St David's cross as their heraldry (dragon riders as well), my guard are gonna be themed after the Royal Welch in full dress uniform, Kasrkin will be Pioneers with white aprons to boot, my Knights are gonna use the Glyndŵr heraldry & my Sisters of Battle are gonna be painted like Welsh Ladies.
Painting what you love is such a great concept, but it becomes problematic when you love a bit too many of the factions. The way I am trying to fix my choice paralysis is by making very detailed lists. I go through every faction and write down if I would like their playstyle or if I have any ideas of lore for them, a colour scheme, their model range etc. It helps me narrow it down a bit, at least. The other hurdle for me is painting. I will try to break my cycle of perfection and just try to have fun when painting. I need to realise that I am a beginner, so I shouldn't think I need to paint every single miniature as if I want to enter Golden Demon. Thanks for another great episode!
at least you only like one game ;) I've got multiple games ... and kind of forced myself to start with the Ogre army for Kings of War (soo shiny ... ) before I start thinking about new things, which isn't easy as I've got Blood&Plunder kickstarter incoming next month or so. Definitely agree with setting your baseline target to something a little more realistic than 'Golden Demon' standard, but it's not easy when pretty much any youtube video tends to show that kind of target. It's flippin' depressing.
You guys are a breath of fresh air, love this channen the format its fun for my ears and eyes, love it, keep up what you are doing its working for me. 🥰
I hope it also inspires people to be a bit more creative with their armies now that they know from someone on the inside that not everything has to be 'paint by numbers'
I made a squad of Indigan Praefects Veterans after seeing them in the guard codex. I loved the idea of dudes with shotguns taking on tyranids. Mine die to a man every game. But then having them pile out of a burning chimera into the face of genestealers probably isn’t the most forward thinking tactic.
Couldn't agree more with Peachy re going to the fringes of the IP - all due respect to the 40k setting, but (and this is a major strength of AoS as well) what appeals to me is less the meta story as presented, but rather carving out my own little corner of it that me and my mates can create and play in. Just doing your own thing. Great video and been enjoying them all having recently discovered the channel. It's a fantastic idea focussing on helping people get models on tabletop. As someone who started in 1992 with WFB 4th and then 2nd ed 40k, but has never bothered to progress far beyond tabletop ready in all that time for the majority of things I paint (because I want to actually play the game more than a couple of times per year!) It's great to see a resource that helps anyone who is new to the hobby get good, achievable and quick results.
Thanks for the shoutout, Peachy! I've fallen a bit flat this year for Noblevember... I'm also shocked - SHOCKED - that your Ork plans don't include Ventrilly 'Uns!
Hahaha! Yeah ventrilly ‘Uns seem like a must now lol 🤦♂️ And I feel ya in regards to the Noblevember stuff I was like that last year, if it wasn’t for this project I’d be in the same boat lol. Eagerly awaiting the new Cadians though 🤗
It is lovely to hear you guys talking hobby and life. I look forward to seeing more of the Necromunda stuff also, even if you all got naming envy when you spoke on it last 😅
Neither of you play Blood Bowl? Criminal! Seriously though, I'd love to see Peachy tackle (see what I did there!) a BB team at some point, I could use the help being me painting a bit quicker!
As someone whose currently got an outer ear infection in both of his ears, I can assure you both that your "velvet tones" were perfect for my current state of hearing. And all jokes aside, it's been seriously nice to hear people's voices at a normal level for the first time since Monday, rather than it sounding like someone speaking to me from 100m away underwater 😆 Enjoy these chats from you guys and the insight into GW that Peachy gives. Keep it up guys!
I actually loved those differentiations, and even wrote to BL to get the Colors for my chosen Chamber from one of the Books,... I did not get a helpful answer... but actually liked that it was colours - not decals... XD But I get the *to much* for the general audience... XD
Regarding that Green Orc Skin "Problem", i saw someone painting the skin more ocker like and iam for myselfs thinking of starting a Orc Kill Team with "Savage" Mag'har Orcs from Warcraft, which are the non Fel (green) infected Orcs. Iam a sucker for a soft orange brown skin tone with bone white armor. :D
My theory is 3D printing will only become an issue for GW when it becomes accessible to everyone, probably following in the footsteps paper printers. Self contained units that take one use cartridges that are pop in and play, and by that point companies will charge a higher amount for those cartridges and you might see approved STL stores where IP infringing objects, or weapons might be blocked.
I love these chaos thankyou for making. With regards to your last topic I think the 3d printing stems from the lack of variability in the gw kits #bringbacktheempiremilitiakit
Like Peachy, I had hated the idea of painting Orks and the green skin was also a big part of it but the more I think about it, the more I feel drawn to the idea of doing an Ork army painted in a style inspired more by "Mad Max: Fury Road", so the skin would be a sickly white with some black and silver facepaint etc. I'd love to see you give that a go and maybe it'd kick me into buying a box an driving it a go myself! 🤣👌
maybe that is the real trick ? It's one step beyond the 'design your own uniform' ... just because GW decided that Orks should be green that doesn't mean yours have to be. They're xenos.
There's me, sat there undercoating sisters with white ready for a pink armour/white robes scheme begging Peachy to be quiet before i change my mind. But it's ok, i plan to do my space marines black(ish) 🙂

I’m sure, doesn’t mean their right, I often find terminologies in the audio books are sometimes pronounced incorrectly. from the man who painted the army and the guy who wrote the background…..it’s Nile-Ack 👍
great content lads but heads up the RUclips audio level is a little low. before you export it from the edit, make sure you CRANK the overall volume up hard so it's peaking into the red without artifacting and cracking, PLEASE.
These are quickly becoming one of my favorite things on youtube.

Absolutely love these little podcast, helps me get through the Monday night work shift 😃
Pleased to hear it.
Nihilakh is my favourite Necron colour scheme! Never knew Peachy had a hand in inventing that - that's cool that it still lives on as an official thing 😁
I've listened to about 4 of these now, and im always caught off guard when the ending pops up. You guys are so easy to listen to. Time just flies
Geoffits part of your comments about regimental coloured belts @37.01. We had these belts for our school houses.
I'm painting Orks these days and it feels great to not be stuck with one color scheme. It's a mixed WAAAGH so they're just mashed up with different skin colors (got some turqouise orks in there too) and different armor colors, some references to the big ones, others without any specifics, just neutral colors.
Although I found this channel because Peachy joined, I like everyone else just as much! Best second monitor content out right now.
Cheers! We’re intrigued…..what’s the first? Modern Warfare, Elden Ring….Peachy’s hairy feet only fans?
We need to know who we’re competing against! 😂
@@thepaintingphase A 17 year World of Warcraft addiction, there’s no coming back for me now!
I actually painted the trim and the buckles accordingly and used the decals for the unit types on my Sacrosanct. Played with them twice...

Absolutely love this! Peachy is a legend with a fantastic legacy ! What a tag team this is turning out to be !!!
🫡 cheers broski!
Superb listen as usual. I am happy to hear that you called them Del-a-que, because that is how I used to say it when Necromunda first came out.
😂 well at least that makes two of use lol
It was nice hearing how you'd do twists on classic army schemes if you were to do them, mainly due to being an Ultramarines player who goes for Kantor blue as the base colour.
09:20 aaaand they are in the guard codex :)
Really enjoying listening to these chats while transferring paint to dropper bottles. You both play of each other really well and the conversation flows. Big thumbs up from me keep it up!
Grate show guys, keep making us chuckle 😃 and giving us a lot to think about for conversions,I'd definitely listen to you guys as a podcast 👍
Oh, I second that. Plenty of lore podcasts out there, but a 'cast with a pro-painter/frontman for GW would be summat I'd listen to.
I've been really hoping for an audio only version. So pleased you're going to do it!
Anvil industries are great for alternative heads to uses for custom themed guard armies
And dont forget Victoria Lamb miniatures, some great stuff on her site
It was the Kabal of the Flayed Skull he did in the raiders of Commorragh book. Like Geoff, I'm ex military, so the desire to add all sorts of colour and identifying markers in armies in STRONG. Glad to hear it's not just me! :D

I have a number of sets of 3rd edition metal humans (the Marauders) which I have always planned to do in a scheme that was shown at the back of the 2003 Blood Bowl annual - the Averland Avengers.
