WARNING Need to add to this already super useful post. The key is the USB provided by Elegoo. I tried 9 USBs on all types of formating. None worked. Once i found the Elegoo USB it worked exactly as shown in the video.
This was so useful, the official website guide had no real instructions on the step-by-step implementation of their zip file. Thank you for taking the time to make this, it saved me so much time and frustration.
Thank you so much. It's videos like this that make it much more straight forward for people like me that gets lost in the first two sentences of the instructions. Keep on being awesome.
I know most of this is already explained on the website technically but I'm more of a visual person so it's super helpful to have a walkthrough like this! Thanks for making it
Very helpful and a lot clearer than the elegoo page - thanks
Finally, someone who can explain the firmware process for newcomers! Thank you so much.
This kind of tutorial is sooo much better than trying to read something that just doesn't make sense! Thanks
Thanks very much . Struggled understanding elegoo instructions but updated in minutes after watching video.
Feb 2022, still helpful. Important to note that for easiest results all the files should be copied into the root of the USB drive, instead of in their folders, otherwise the update.SH4 file doesn't run automatically on startup.
Hi, sorry to bother. I just got my own Mars 2 today and it's trying to force the build plate down through the base of the machine, and won't stop. Is this update a fix for that, or something else?
@@Spidehman have you printed anything yet? If you haven’t, I’d recalibrate it as per the instructions. If you have, there might be residue in the vat which it’s trying to press down pass to reach z=0
@@Lughtigern1 No, haven't printed anything. I set z to 0 when it's levelled and the paper is just catching under the plate. I tell it that is now 0, it says to do that from the home menu(???). And whenever I tell it to go to 0 it pushes down against the screen and makes a horrible whirring sound.
@@Lughtigern1 I just got this brand new today, it's not got any residue in it.
@@Spidehman I’m not sure so, sounds like you’re doing the right thing. Maybe tell it that 0 is a few more 0.1mm higher before setting z=0. Otherwise maybe someone else or support might know more, good luck!
Elegoo should sponsor you and link to your video for this. Thanks a bunch!
Thank-you Sir! I tried for an hour to figure this out, then found your video. All is well.
new user here got the non pro mars2, struggled for hours to get files to show up and print, turns out all i needed was a firmware update, thanks to your video my printer is up and running now
So, when I try to 'print' the .sh4 file it attempts it, then just rams the motor all the way to the top and starts grinding up the gears? It then does not restart, and does not actually update the firmware at all. I also can not 'print' the otehr files as the printer says they are unrecognizable, or empty. Canj you provide any support?
same issue for me
You need to check your files and move them into the ROOT folder (not nested, the .sh4 etc needs to be in root)
@@OLegndz You need to check your files and move them into the ROOT folder (not nested, the .sh4 etc needs to be in root)
@@Pandaemiation Thanks man, you save me.
Thank you so much! I have been struggling with my update and this saved me!
thank you for this! this saved me from my mini panic attack
Thanks for having the screen cap showing the install order. The current webpage only has 2 so the update failed. Went back following the SH4 > CBD > Logo > Bin > Txt and it was able to read both versions of Chitubox I have loaded (1.8 & 1.9) with zero issues
Fixed "Unknown File Format". First time I ran the .SH4, the build plate went to max height and started trying to break itself or something. Moved the 4 files to the main directory on the USB instead of having them in a folder and it worked.
The update process would have been much scarier without this video haha
This got me thru the Mars 2 update. Thanks. Testing in the morning.
Thank you ever so much, i was having a real nightmare (some of my own Making) but this video got me through. Cheers.
Thanks man you made this x1000 times easier
Great video!
Thank you!
MUST USE ELEGOO USB that comes with the printer. This was such a great walk through and really easy to understand but one part was missing. it doesn't work if using a different USB. Not impressed with the quality of the USB supplied with Elegoo printers I use Sandisk USB but this wasn't working until I read a comment that warned the update only works if you use an official Elegoo USB. I plugged that in and suddenly all the updates were all working.
so i am trying to update the firmware, but when i try to print the sh4, the plate goes up and jams against the top of the print arm, loud buzz and i assume not a good thing. any ideas?
Same Problem
@@wildbillmagic4849 try making sure that all the files you unzipped onto your USB stick are at the root of the USB drive - not inside subfolders. I had the same problem and this working for me
Tim you saved my ass lol
@@user-yo2mf7et5c Thanks a million! This was such a frustrating problem to solve. Your way totally worked without any issues at all! Thanks again!!!
Thank you so much for walking me through like it did!
Thank you for the clear and easy to follow instructions. Cheers
What if I accidentally didn’t use the right order
Thanks for starting with “make sure you need an update” because I didn’t. Thanks!
I downloaded all the files but it says unknown file format whenever i try to update and print cs4.
this saved my sanity when i kept getting red files on my uploads
I did everything you said, and its not working. Some files are acting weird or say they do not exist or are empty.
Soooo.... Hello. I tried following these steps with my Elegoo Mars Pro, and when I tired to select the .SH4 file (for the Elegoo Mars Pro), the build plate started going up... and up, and up, until it actually lifted the Red Covering off of the printer, and then the whole thing started making a horrible grinding sound, and it said that there was an error and it failed to load the file correctly --- to unplug the USB stick and try again. I am frightened of doing anything else until I hear from someone who knows what they are doing. Do you have any advice as to how I could fix this? T'anks.
having the same problem
@@camcanton5033 I asked around on reddit, as well. I'll let you know if I learn anything from anyone there, okay?
Hey, sorry to hear you're having issues! Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but are you sure you've downloaded the correct firmware? Just want to be sure as my printer is a Mars 2 Pro and you mentioned you have the Mars Pro.
www.elegoo.com/pages/3d-printing-user-support
That is a link to the official support page. If you select Mars Pro, the current firmware is V4.4.3-F2.14. Double check what you printer is running before updating just to avoid any unnecessary hassle. Make sure the USB stick you're using is sound too.
@@PRNT3DbyMark Hello! Thanks for the tip --- not at all a silly question. I DID double check however, and I am using the correct firmware version. As for the USB stick, I am going to try formatting it and reloading the files to see if that makes a difference.
@@camcanton5033 @PRNT3D by Mark
I figured it out. The 5 files have to be in the root directory without being in any other folders. (Redditor, Werefoofle, helped me out)
Thank you for posting this~
Very useful thanks a lot
Well then, that wasn't too bad. I was dealing with an "unknown file format" issue and your video here guiding through the process of updating the firmware worked perfectly, and now my Mars 2 Mono recognizes the sliced file from chitubox 1.9. Thanks for the great tutorial. Can you tell me, after updating the firmware, does the printer remember the calibration settings from previous calibration, when I set z=0, or is it necessary to recalibrate?
I'm glad the video was helpful! I don't know the correct answer to your question, but to be honest with you I would set zero again just to be safe. Only takes a couple of minutes anyway :)
@@PRNT3DbyMark I can tell you the answer is that you DO need to recalibrate after a firmware flash. I didn't only because I already had resin in the vat and I was both hopeful AND lazy. I learned about how to clean up a failed resin print directly afterwards x_x. Since that, I managed to successfully print something I sliced for the first time!
@@DegonTheMighty Same thing happened to me tonight after updating my Mars 2. I have the vat soaking with IPA inside right now
I specially misst the info that I have to place the files not in an folder, but the rest helps me very well
Thanks!
No problem!
Thank you! My printer was really outdated.
check to see if it is up to date "check the lem of the 3rd line?"
My mar 2 pro isn’t printing everything and not sticking. Can you make a video about that please?
having trouble "installing" sh4 file. Printer just shuts off right away. Printer doesnt want to turn on if i leave usb stick on.
I am having this issue also
Any fix?
Anything?
@@MegaSoulist I couldn't find a fix for this. I ended up just downloading an older version of the 3d software for the firmware I had instead of updating it.
@@Rocketjake that's annoying. I tweeted them, I'll report back of I hear
When I download the files on the usb they all say not supported it don’t allow me to print anything and I asked elegoo mars for the exact firmware file
Literally a God amongst men
I followed your directions but when I try to print the first file, the SH4 file, it just tells me UNKNOWN FORMAT and won't do anything. Thoughts?
Sorry for the late reply. Did you have any luck with the update?
@@PRNT3DbyMark no worries. I figured it out.
@@PRNT3DbyMark no worries. I figured it out.
do you remember what you did to make it work im having the same issue
@@valorreplicas can you share what fixed it please?
Thanks so much! I stuck the USB in and put the files in the root (outside the folder) and my elegoo shut off and wouldn't turn on! I was like..uh...did I break it? It just needed time...I stuck the USB back in, and it beeped alot, automatically printing the SH4 file. After that, the other files showed up! (It didn't before). Started printing. Hoping itll stuck this time..
Please note: Do not attempt to manually print the SH4 file. If you do, the printer might not update properly, causing it to lift the build plate beyond its limit and resulting in a motor buzzing sound. If this occurs, immediately turn off the printer using the switch at the back or by unplugging it to prevent motor damage. The correct update method is to place the SH4 file in the root directory of a USB stick and allow the printer to automatically update itself during reboot. This issue is unique to the SH4 file and doesn't affect other files.
thank you for the great video but I had a problem updating mine. my firmware info screen is: 4.4.3- 9.23. tried to put the new 4.4.3-9.25 but it says "firmware already exist"... I really don't understand. thanks for the help if someone had the same problem.
My I lost the original USB, what can I do, if no other USB works
How long should i expect to wait for the sh4 to finish updating. i have been waiting for quite a while
After hitting the update.sh4 file first, it just turns off and doesnt turn back on. Ive left it there for about 5-10 minutes and nothing has happened. Does it take longer than 5 minutes to update this or am i doing something wrong. Please help.
Same things happening for me, does it eventually finish
@Michael Blair So I just started using the older version of the 3d software on my computer rather than updating my printer. It's not really a solution to this, but it would print, and that's all I needed it to do.
Having some issues updating the firmware. I downloaded the file as you show in the video. But only the SH4 file is there. So what do I do? Any help file is Firmware-V4.4.3_c2_LCDC_1620_2560_F9.25 20220510, which id the latest version for elegroo mars pro 2. Old version would no longer support chitubox cbt files. As such now stuck The cbd file is not there..
Same here. Any ideas anyone?
I’ve been trying to update this to the 4. 43 but with no avail, I accidentally tried the other files from different versions than the one I needed now I updated the version I have it won’t update at all ?!
If I'm not using the pen drive that came with the printer, I don't need to do the .txt file update right?
Quando eu vou imprimir o .sh4 ela começa a fazer um ruído alto, mas aparece como impressão concluída, devo seguir os passos?
After I did this my printer doesn't print at all the screen works the uv screen works and I can manually move the z axis but once I go to print it goes down and then refuses to go up thanks elegoo you sold me a giant fucking paperweight
if i try and print the sh4 file it just says "unknown file format" cant get it to update at all.
so does it perform better in any way?
thank you so much!
I've done all of this properly, and the paper is still tight + pressed when checking the Z homing with paper (this is after locking the build plate and setting the correct Z). The info menu shows the newest fw available, but the Z doesn't seem to stay.
Thanks very helpful
A somewhat simpler way to upgrade the firmware is to simply plug in a USB stick with all of the downloaded files in its root directory before powering on the Mars. Then, when you power on the Mars it will detect the files on the USB stick and update the firmware directly (without the need to "print" each of the files in a specific order).
Does this actually do all of them though? Elegoo told me that if you place the usb in then turn the machine on that it will do the sh4 file and then you do the rest manually.
you are a life saver sir thank you i couldn't get it to work the way the man in the video was
someone said this would fix the unknown file format issue but it didnt. anyone able to help?
You saved my life...thank you!!!!1
Why after i send print the sh4 file my pro cant on again..?
my mars 3 pro isnt updating no matter what i do and im freakin out
i cant get it to work im at a loss
My printer can’t read the sh4 file. Anyone else have a problem printing recently? I could print no problem a few months ago, went to print and now it’s only reading as an anyphoton which would print (wrong resolution and file type)
Any chance for an updated version? I don't see the same file names in 4.4
I will actually be making an updated version soon 🙂
Do you know any other slicers you recommend to use on the resin printers
There’s another really popular slicer called Lychee.
IMPORTANT: after the firmware update you Need to Re-Level the BuildPlate!!!! ALWAYS
Note: if you already installed a flexplate, and have been printing before the FW update and you forget to Re Level after the FW Update.
The printer will try to crash your screen!!!!!
The Instructions on the Elegoo site are horrible.
elegoo site not working is everything ok?
I can't find the SH4 file
The .SH4 file should be included in the firmware download at the top of the page for the Mars 2 Pro updates (V4.4.3-c2_LCDC/1620X2560 /F9.23)
Link: www.elegoo.com/pages/3d-printing-user-support
Remember to follow these steps:
Step 1 - Under normal circumstances, you only need to update the files in the firmware file and copy the files to the root directory of the USB flash drive
Step 2 - Insert the USB flash drive into the printer
Step 3 - Print the files on the printer to update, please following this order: .SH4 > .CBD > .txt
After printing all the firmware files, you need to restart the machine to make the new firmware take effect.
The.SH4 file will be automatically updated after restarting the machine in the shutdown state. Please do not update repeatedly to avoid being prompted "Same Firmware already exists!"
If you try to manually print the SH4 file instead of allowing the printer to automatically update itself by simply rebooting after placing the SH4 file in the root directory of the USB stick and letting it grab it from there itself during the booting process the printer may not update correctly and will instead try to lift the build plate higher than it can go causing a buzzing sound from the motor. If this happens turn your printer off immediately using the switch in the back or by unplugging it so that the motor doesn't break. Then you can remove the USB stick and do it correctly the next time. This doesn't happen with any of the other files, but it does for the SH4 file for some reason.
just got a mars 2 pro haven't printed anything yet, should i update firmware before using it?
Personally I would, just so it’s up to date. But to be completely honest with you it won’t matter if you don’t. Mine worked perfectly fine before the update and I don’t think the current firmware changes much.
@@PRNT3DbyMark thank you so much my dude!
is elegoo dead? site does not load
great support page link to firmware is a dead link
I was very hopeful that this might be helpful. However, the instructions here are outdated and so unpertinent to the most recent updates so as to be useless.
i dont know about yourself but i had to go into each file then extract all the files indvidually to the root file thats the only thing that was missed in this video
Спасибо большое!

I don’t find it useful . Thanks for your time on posting the video.
I’ve just got my mars pro last week it printed the rooks all went great now having problems printing anything else my version say LCDM21/4098x2560/F23.32 is this the latest version cos I’m new at this
Thank you soooooooo much !
- as soon as i select the .sh4 file & click print all i get is a horrible buzz like the buildplate has bottomed out. HELP PLEASE!!! :(
- nvmd. figured it out myself. reformatted thumb to FAT32 & placed all files directly on drive(NO FOLDERS).
