I've spent the past few weeks giving myself crash courses in RUclips, Facebook, Spotify, and GoogleAds, but your videos are gold! You're giving so much more in-depth than the usual "make your thumbnails look good and have a personality" tips. After watching only a few videos, I applied your FB methods to Googles Ads and our music vid hit 50K in a week. I'm figuring out the Spotify stuff now and we're planning out content releases. We've needed something positive and it's boosted the morale of the rest of the band by miles. You're a godsend, my guy!
I really love your content, but I realized I needed to go ahead and take some of your courses. So I just got your Spotify growth and RUclips growth courses. I just started the Spotify course using Facebook ads and I’m already loving it. I think it’s going to really help me to set up more successful ads. Thank you!
Love the content, man! I was curious about two things & hopefully you’re willing to answer! 1. Is it okay for a Facebook account running an Ad for the first time to run Conversion ads? I remember seeing a previous video of yours w/ Tom Dupree where he mentioned that sometimes an account would be suspended for trying to run them if it’s their first campaign. 2. Would you be willing to do an updated version of the $100 ad campaign? With the changes made to Facebook I think it’d be helpful for artists looking to run test campaigns. Sorry for the lengthy text. But thank you for the help you give us independent artists!
This was a very insightful video. My Facebook ad numbers are not as great as yours but now I see the differences via this video. I release monthly lofi music, and run monthly ads for the last year. Your videos help me a ton with overflowing traffic to IG, RUclips, Facebook and especially Spotify. Thanks again for the big assist of awareness knowledge.
Hello Andrew, great results as always ! Tom Dupree is apparently switching from conversion campaigns to link clicks and I would be really interested by your thoughts about this, because you both strongly advised us to use conversions previously but apparently the difference between the 2 types of campaigns is not as it was before. Thanks a lot for your work !
Thanks! The only time I use link click campaigns is when i'm retargeting people. So for example if i'm retargeting previous converters, or people who watched 50% or more of my music videos or 95% of my short form content. I also only do this for the top 5 or so english speaking countries due to the lower risk of bots and click farms. Link click campaigns to cold traffic almost never work, and even when I do run them in the case outlined above I still send them to a landing page.
Man! I can get those results but not this fast usually takes a few days/ close to 100 till it learns enough to give me that. How did yours learn so fast?

I love your tips dude, thank you so much! As a videographer can I give you a small tip? I would recommend shooting at a higher F-stop. Your eyes are mostly in focus but small shifts in movement pull them out of focus. With a higher F-stop not only will you have more forgiving focus area, but your lens will perform better and you will have an overall sharper image!
Hey man, thanks for the tip! I had it like this because I love the super blurry background look haha. But I did actually knock my f stop down to 2.0 from 1.4 and upped the ISO to compensate and I think it looks much better - still nice and blurry in the back but less focus issues.

Hi Andrew! Thank you for sharing tips in this video, it's really useful for us. I'd like to know more about this LAL 95% ad set. How did you set it up?
Basically I made a Lookalike audience of people who watched 95% of various videos we had released so far. Then I made a 1% lookalike audience on that data.
Do you think if your account is restricted, that is the reason as to why ad campaigns aren't converting to streams? There a way to make a fresh account?

@@SeanMcComishMusic So drop in performance is I think totally normal in case of less conversions because indeed you're spending less money a day. For me this return to learning phase was also a big problem. It also happened to me when I lowered the costs within the first week - but only when I started with small amount of money. I figured out, at least for me, that starting minimum with 15€ a day for at least a week and then reducing it by 5€ after that week is not a problem at all. @@AndrewSouthworth Thanks! Does this mean I won't be able to get the benefits of using an engagement type campaign- the cheaper cost per conversion? or does it somehow just even out in the end in terms of cost. Any way to access the new window?
@@AndrewSouthworth Just to reply: I can't figure out how to get the same simplified campaign creation menus like in the video. I can set up conversions at the level of the ad (not the ad set like in the video). Is that sorta the same thing?
Hey Andrew! Currently I have a link to a song within an album (through TonedIn) and it auto-plays and has done well. I heard a video say to link to a Catalog Playlist with all of your songs, and that it would lead to more streams through all of your music. However, a Playlist link does not automatically play the song, so it would be an extra step for the user. Any thoughts on this? Have you tried linking to a Catalog Playlist before?
I let a campaign run for a while and I won't say how much was spent over that while, but i did not get a single conversion for the money I spent. I have gotten conversions before, so something has gone wrong since fb's multiple changes to the ad system. I have watched your videos dozens of times to try to figure out wtf I'm doing wrong in the set up and it just seems to be broken somehow. wtf.
I would guess that if not a single conversion showed up on Facebook then something was messed up with the Pixel installation / setup. Hard for me to know for sure without more info on which landing page service you're using. Make sure you put the Pixel ID on your landing page, and make sure you confirmed that its working using the Test Events tool instead Events Manager prior to using the link in a campaign. The same event that shows in Test Events should be the one you choose in your ad set. For ToneDen its ViewContent and for Hypeddit / Feature FM it would be a custom conversion that you create.
Another great video Andrew! I don't know if I've seen in one of your videos why my results are showing unknown or display a dash on the "web views content." The ads still have a cost per website view content value, but there's no demographic info that fills in. Why is this? I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly and that the algorithm can learn what it needs to. Thanks!
Hey Andrew, whats your cost per conversion for the first days(for tier 1 and 2)? I often dont know if i should let it run because its still learning and the cost may come down or turn it off because im at 0.80€ at the end of the first day...How much does your conversion cost go down just by letting it run and let facebook learn?
Hi! Did your costs go down gradually? For me it went from 1.27 US cents to 0.15/20 cents after 6 days. It's the patience game and if things go down every day you just let Facebook do it's job :) Cheers
hey andrew absolutely love your videos.. just wanted to why is it necessary to have a feature fm page why cant we send them directly to our spotify page? does it make any differnce? love from India
Its because I want to track conversions and you can set that up in the engagement objective. Traffic only tracks link clicks or landing page views, we want to track when people click one of the buttons on our landing page which means we need a conversion campaign.
Wish I could do this, but my ads keep hanging on 'in review' Hope you could make a basic tutorial about just basic stuff and how to begin, this would be really helpful for musicians. thank you for your videos!
So i'm using my regular Facebook pixel on my FFM page. FFM does have their own pixel thing but its a complicated setup used to track purchase conversions on your online store - not used for this type of thing.
Ads been pretty screwy lately but they still work. I can’t see which country I get my Toneden View Content Conversions anymore it just says “unknown”. Everything still seems to be working well tho
Yeah ever since iOS14 you can't see breakdown data for conversion campaigns anymore. With the ToneDen API you can actually go in and see clickthrus by country, I made a video on that last year.
@@AndrewSouthworth Okay word word. Btw, is Detailed Targeting Expansion always on now? Under Custom Audiences in my Ad Sets I see "We may deliver ads beyond your audience for eligible ad objectives, if it’s likely to improve performance." If I click "Learn More" It says "Lookalike expansion is automatically enabled for new, duplicated and draft campaigns and ad sets with lookalike audiences created for conversion" So i guess that means Yes? Do you think this is a good thing? Does this mean I should start with more narrow targeting? My Genre Targeting audience is huge but my Artist Targeting is small. I'm thinking this means I should only do Artist Targeting
Does anyone has this problem / or understand how a lot of ppl go from your Ad's landing page to Spotify but you don't get a lot of streams? :/ I mean the difference between 531 link clicks (view content) against 51 actual streams?
I was wondering if you could do a video on pre-saves and how you market it through fb ads? I’m unsure if you have one already but this would help a lot!
I do have videos on pre-saves. I don't recommend running Facebook ads for pre-saves though. You might spend $3.50 to get a pre-save with ads but after the song comes out you might pay an average of $0.50 to get a save. The only time pre-saves make sense is if you're also doing email marketing and are going to take advantage of those email addresses you're collecting.
Love these videos, Andrew. Just a question: can you go over how to set up a pixel with ToneDen? My last conversion campaign failed because facebook apparently doesn't allow you to embed pixels into websites you don't manage anymore (ie ToneDen), so my conversions didn't track properly. But based on the recency of these videos you must have found a way around that!
Hey Andrew, can you please help me with setting up a Hyperfollow pre-save campaign using FB Ads? I don't know if Conversions will work since I need a domain verification due to iOS 14.5 so is there another solution? I left the question for you in the Genera Community also!
question; how long do you plan on running your campaign at $20 a day. i think i sell myself short by dropping my budget a little ro quickly. Dropped a song back in Dec. some failed attempts with facebook ads but finally caught some good data and now at 9k streams. Thinking about pumping more cash in my campaign instead of $5 a day now
Hi Andrew I have watched most of your videos - great resource! Recently I decided to try the Toneden Spotify Growth playbook for my son Tarn PK. I followed all the steps, loaded our own video assets and scheduled, but now FB have rejected 2 out of the 3 Toneden campaigns because of a violation of a "non-functional landing page"? I assume that is Toneden sending people to our Spotify artists profile bur and how can one of the Tiers work but not the other two...? Thoughts?
Thank you Andrew!! Quick question: what’s the reason for targeting tier 1 countries other than your own? I.e. why not just do US (where you can sell merch and create a buzz) and then for the rest just target cheaper countries? Love and respect to you Andrew!
Thanks! So other tier 1 countries like Canada, the UK, Australia are just as valuable as the US and also spend a ton of money online. So it allows me to make a larger audience and will be generally cheaper than just the US. If someone did lots of shows it might make sense to stick to their home country like the US instead of all of tier 1. I sometimes will run other campaigns to just the US as well though even though I don’t do shows.
Hi. Thanks for all the info on your channel! I'm not an expert on this field but I don't get why so much people recommends fb ads. In my experience only gave me "fans" with fake profiles in remote places and music tastes that were on the opposite side of my music. And their other interests were random companies that no one adds to their profile. For me it was a total scam.
It sounds like you may have been targeting too many countries and/or the wrong countries, or using the wrong objective in your campaign. For example a lot of people will boost a post and target it worldwide - thats basically asking for a ton of bot followers. The reason so many people recommend FB ads is because it works. However it takes a good amount of effort to get it to work the way you want it to.
For my first song, I had 100 streams in a month spending 300 euros and i did exactly what you’ve did but targeting only Tier 1 countries with some tier 2 countries too. And only 24 listeners listen to my music. It’s really discouraging…
Keep going! Try different things and keep learning and trying and going hard. Be in it for the music and the people, not the money and plays. Love the music you make and make it because you love it.
@@thomasbugdaci8237 me I don't like to see even £1 spent with no conversions, it's your money, don't throw it away, it the results aren't making you happy, make changes asap! 💪🏽
hey now I see ads where you see video but instead of landing page when you click it, it goes right to the Spotify link of song. how do you do it that way>
Yeah I still use CBO for conversion campaigns like this. There are cases where adset budget optimization makes sense but not for this type of campaign. I often use ABO in retargeting campaigns, video view campaigns or specific test campaigns i'm running.
Hey, Andrew, two questions: (1) You didn't mention why you ran two Campaigns rather than 1 campaign with 5 ad sets across the two tiers and ad set budget limits. Can you explain? (2) On the RUclips views, I would be interested in what your RUclips Studio analytics say as to how many views came from the FFM link as opposed to assuming that most of the 262 came from those viewers.
Can i even start with conversion-ads now? I saw one of your older videos (11 months ago) in which you talked about a new IOS Update and that there‘s not much time left to set everything up so i can use Conversion Ads 😩😅
This still seems like it wouldn’t help generate enough plays to contrast the cost, since a stream is a fraction of a cent and the conversion is cents to a play… Did I miss something or is this part of a bigger plan than ROAS?
Hi guys, I’m having an issue when trying to place my ads. Facebooks doesn’t let me post on any stories (Instagram,Facebook stories and messenger stories). I live in the Uk and want to run the campaign in France. Could it be a law issue?
Man how did you manage to get the new simplified objective panel though. Tried talking to a Facebook ads expert, tried a new ad account, nothing will work I really wanna try out the new engagement conversions 😭 am I cursed
I made a new ad account and got it. My other ad accounts don’t have it. Everyone on FB is on different versions and it’s somewhat random which you get. They’re rolling out the simplified version more and more though, even to existing accounts. It’s not actually any different from the old way in performance.
@@AndrewSouthworth good to know thanks Andrew; figured it might convert a little better I’m in the middle of a campaign so every penny counts 🤣 cheers man, thanks for another great vid
It's really amazing for me, at the beginning of the year I was watching these videos to relearn Facebook ads. Now I'm scoffing at Andrew being excited about twenty cent conversions as I've been hitting four, five and seven pence conversions. I can say conclusively, the chorus beg works best because the algorithm can read a face, eyes and see it is a real human being. A human face beats computer generated stuff 100% of the time from my experience!
I'm definitely crushing the ad creation part but think my targeting can improve. Was getting over 100 streams a day from £5 before making changes because I wasn't getting enough saves... Now waiting for everything to dial back in 💪🏽
Man I just turned on pixels and it just ruined any campaign I promote now. My ad set stays inactive and my status of ads say LEARNing which means it performing even SLOWER than before smh
FeatureFM gave me a free account so I was testing it out, and honestly i'm really loving it. It loads much faster than Hypeddit or ToneDen, the data reporting is super convenient and the email signup system is pretty seamless. Only downside is that its 2-3X the cost of Hypeddit per month.
I know you're not optimizing for impressions, so maybe you don't think about it this way, but I've noticed you seem to be able to get significantly lower costs per 1000 impressions. For example, it looks like on this campaign, you spent $4.18 for 1000 impressions in Tier 1 countries and $1.46 in Tier 2 countries. In my campaigns so far, it's $6.38 in Tier 1 and $2.45 in Tier 2. Do you know if there's anything you're doing that reduces this cost for you? My ad spend has been significantly lower than yours, so maybe that's a factor?
It could be targeting, or it could be the video as well. If Facebook finds your ads improve the users experience your ads are cheaper, if it makes people get off the platform sooner then they make them more expensive. Also certain audiences are naturally more expensive depending on your targeting. Could also be your pixel hasn’t learned the best types of people yet for this conversion event.
What are your goals with running the FB ads for your music? Are you trying to make money? Are you trying to gain more listens? More followers/saves? I am interested in all of the above for my own music but am wondering if FB ads is the best method to achieve those goals. Thanks for the really helpful videos!
Thanx Andrew for a great video again. "Chorusbegging" was a great idea. I might steal it as you gave permission. I just made my first two simple conversion FB campaigns having 0.03 CPC and that is great. So got 160 conversions with 5€ yesterday. My problem is having only 17% click through ratio in Toneden. I understand conversion to be a click on a landing page forwarding people and therefore having only 17% just don't fit into my head. I would like to use withKoji as you recommended in some video. WithKoji is looking a lot better, but I have not found a way to install pixel on it. Is it possible? Any ideas to improve landing page click through ratio? It is now just a general page pointing to all social media links and not to the song I'm using in add. Might be the reason people being "mislead"? I like following you as I'm too a combination of engineer and artist so having both adjectives and numbers in life is familiar;) You rock. EDIT: I had used "Leads" and therefore no "View content" option was available. That was the reason my CPC was so low and actual conversion did not materialize. Now trying with "Engagement" type campaign as there "view content" option is available.
@@AndrewSouthworth No Problem. thanks for teaching an idiot like me how to advertise. 🤣 Still not great at it, but a lot better than I would have been. So Thanks again, man. 🤘
They work great for me and for hundreds of people I know. Generally i've found doing conversions with the sales objective (for a campaign like this) results in a higher cost per conversion, at least at first, whereas engagement is more reasonable from the start. Not always a big deal though. If it works for you keep using it, but saying engagement doesn't work is flat out wrong.
@@AndrewSouthworth I’ve been watching your videos for about a year and a half amazing content btw, but when I ran the engagement campaign with the new interface my cost was $5 for 1 click I turned it off after 1 day. I ran a conversion campaign before the new interface and my cost was $2 per click not sure what I’m doing wrong when I try to duplicate what you do
feel like facebook ads is just a money pit, spent about 1k - 1.5k total following your guides and it just seems like the money is getting wasted on bots. Never get even a quarter of actual clicks on hypeddit as what the stats on facebook are telling me. and only about 30% conversions on the hypeddit link from there.... very discouraging
In every case you should have more conversions on Hypeddit than what Facebook is telling you due to tracking inaccuracies and ad blockers. If you're seeing less on Hypeddit than Facebook then there is a good chance you don't have the conversion event setup incorrectly, either that it's dual tracking events or its tracking page visits instead of clicks.
@@AndrewSouthworth ya I figured as much but I think mine are a little too off. Plus the hypeddit clicks don’t really get me many actual plays on the music, no where near the success u seem to have. I’ll have 30% click rate on my links compared to your past videos your getting 70-80

What are the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Countries I need a list
hey andrew absolutely love your videos.. just wanted to why is it necessary to have a feature fm page why cant we send them directly to our spotify page? does it make any differnce? love from India
Awesome video dude keep going
HAHAH loved the ad.. such a powerful voice !!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this video, quick question: why are you using engagement over traffic for these specific ads if you're directing viewers to a link?
Its because I want to track conversions and you can set that up in the engagement objective. Traffic only tracks link clicks or landing page views, we want to track when people click one of the buttons on our landing page which means we need a conversion campaign.
@@AndrewSouthworth thank you so much for your answer, so helpful
You should do a video on how to promote your Pandora page
My facebook ads still have the old options for setting up campaign objectives :(
Wish I could do this, but my ads keep hanging on 'in review'
Hope you could make a basic tutorial about just basic stuff and how to begin, this would be really helpful for musicians. thank you for your videos!
Confused about the FFM pixel. You made a facebook pixel specifically for FFM or FFM gave you a pixel to run ?
I left the question for you in the Genera Community also!
youre the goat man
question; how long do you plan on running your campaign at $20 a day. i think i sell myself short by dropping my budget a little ro quickly. Dropped a song back in Dec. some failed attempts with facebook ads but finally caught some good data and now at 9k streams. Thinking about pumping more cash in my campaign instead of $5 a day now
How do you run a conversation engagement ad with the old campaign tool?
Check out my older videos on conversion campaigns, most of them use the older style tool.
Clever Marketing 🔥
nice breakdown! Thank you :)
@@AndrewSouthworth Thank you very much for clarifying. I'll keep that in mind.
How do you get the Create Ad tool?.........the Create Ad tool I have is not showing anything like what your displaying in the video.
You let it go for way too long, 10 euros in not generating enough plays you should have made changes
@@matteotapiaa Thank you for those encouraging words.
@@SoundKillazMusicNetwork I didn't though about that. I will apply this method next time.
@@thomasbugdaci8237 me I don't like to see even £1 spent with no conversions, it's your money, don't throw it away, it the results aren't making you happy, make changes asap! 💪🏽
hey now I see ads where you see video but instead of landing page when you click it, it goes right to the Spotify link of song. how do you do it that way>
Hey man, are you still a fan of campaign budget optimization?
Yeah I still use CBO for conversion campaigns like this. There are cases where adset budget optimization makes sense but not for this type of campaign.
I often use ABO in retargeting campaigns, video view campaigns or specific test campaigns i'm running.
Hey, what link would you use? Would it be a Spotify stream link or to a page like hyper follow for them to click through to Spotify?
In this case i'm use a FeatureFM page. You could also use a Hypeddit or ToneDen page. Don't link directly to Spotify.
hi how would you make a custom conversion for feature fm and put your custom domian for ios 14.5
You have a real dope voice I fuck with it
Hey, Andrew, two questions: (1) You didn't mention why you ran two Campaigns rather than 1 campaign with 5 ad sets across the two tiers and ad set budget limits. Can you explain? (2) On the RUclips views, I would be interested in what your RUclips Studio analytics say as to how many views came from the FFM link as opposed to assuming that most of the 262 came from those viewers.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BRO 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Who was the company who did they lyric video for you?
A company called Mlade.
Can i even start with conversion-ads now? I saw one of your older videos (11 months ago) in which you talked about a new IOS Update and that there‘s not much time left to set everything up so i can use Conversion Ads 😩😅
Yes! You can still setup a custom domain and do all the iOS14 setup stuff, but its actually not required anymore just strongly recommended.
@@AndrewSouthworth thanks so much!
Isn’t it a loss of more than $100 ? It costs like $109 to generate about $2 of streams no?
Will you share what your Tier 1 and Tier 2 countries are?
Good stuff
What do you put for 'Attribution setting'? 7 Day click? Or 1 day click?
I leave the default at 7 Day click. It doesn’t matter much for this type of campaign. I did a test comparing the two and there was no difference.
Best way to run fb ads?
Does Instagram story only ads don’t do good anymore? They were my best performing ads last year
Can you do a video on clickup for indie record label and production studio.
This still seems like it wouldn’t help generate enough plays to contrast the cost, since a stream is a fraction of a cent and the conversion is cents to a play…
Did I miss something or is this part of a bigger plan than ROAS?
Hi guys, I’m having an issue when trying to place my ads. Facebooks doesn’t let me post on any stories (Instagram,Facebook stories and messenger stories). I live in the Uk and want to run the campaign in France. Could it be a law issue?
How do I just hire you to do this for our artists? Do you offer this as a service?
How long does it take to start to notice it working?
If you have the live counter you'll notice within a day, if you don't have it anymore i'd say 3 days minimum.
Now waiting for everything to dial back in 💪🏽
I can't create a custom conversion with hypeddit smart link Click only visit. Anyone had something similar? Been stuck on this for days
Man I just turned on pixels and it just ruined any campaign I promote now. My ad set stays inactive and my status of ads say LEARNing which means it performing even SLOWER than before smh
Hi Andrew. Do you offer Spotify promotion services your self?
Good music i liked your song 👍🏾
12:35 it's over NINE THOUSAAAAND
Why did you switch from Hypedit ?
This was an awesome ad bro wtf
What are your goals with running the FB ads for your music? Are you trying to make money? Are you trying to gain more listens? More followers/saves?
I am interested in all of the above for my own music but am wondering if FB ads is the best method to achieve those goals. Thanks for the really helpful videos!
Great ad idea hahaha wow
haha thanks! glad you liked it
Thanx Andrew for a great video again.
I like following you as I'm too a combination of engineer and artist so having both adjectives and numbers in life is familiar;)
You rock.
EDIT: I had used "Leads" and therefore no "View content" option was available. That was the reason my CPC was so low and actual conversion did not materialize. Now trying with "Engagement" type campaign as there "view content" option is available.
Hey man.. can you do an updated pixel update please? Do we still need a website for conversions?
16:51 lol. I see my comment.
hahaha thanks for checking out my new band!
@@AndrewSouthworth No Problem. thanks for teaching an idiot like me how to advertise. 🤣 Still not great at it, but a lot better than I would have been. So Thanks again, man. 🤘
Engagement ads don’t work with the new interface I used sales and got way more conversions than engagement
I ran a conversion campaign before the new interface and my cost was $2 per click not sure what I’m doing wrong when I try to duplicate what you do
I’m confused as hell
feel like facebook ads is just a money pit, spent about 1k - 1.5k total following your guides and it just seems like the money is getting wasted on bots.
If you wanna try fb ad
You should watch skill share
It is doubtful that his pattern applies to everyone
I've done this dozens of times for my own music and hundreds of times for clients and students. This isn't my first rodeo.
