    I just paused my campaign yesterday due to bad results (330 total conversions, $200 spent, not cracking Spotify's algorithm). Now I'm seeing that almost ALL of the money spent was going towards Audience Networks! On top of that, my campaign has only spent $0.01 on the United States (!?) and over $100 on just Columbia alone. Thank you for the tips. I'm duplicating the campaign and making these changes now. Fingers crossed for better results...

      @@omg.Daviid Honestly I decided to pause the campaign for the time being. I'm hearing that a reason ads are so expensive to run at the moment is because it's Q4 and also companies are purchasing tons of ad space gearing up for Christmas. I'm going to try again after the new year when things settle down.

      @@supertentacles Im having the same issues but with audience networks even turned off..... i have .07 CPR with 1,124 conversions but a disappointing 52 streams on my song..... I am not quite understanding what the issue is...... I even tried to disable a lot of these countries so im lost atm

      @@cgleifthanks for posting your problems. I’ve been having the same type of poor results. I’ll go back and check again, but I thought I had fixed the issues Andrew spotlighted here. I am so grateful for Andrew’s knowledge and great videos and that others like you are sharing their results.

      @@mitchtheneedle yeah man idk. And it’s to the point I know the music that I’m putting out is good but it seems like Facebook ads is just an endless money pit. I’ve taken a break on tryina these ads but plan on trying again with smarter/ smaller budgets till I see something working. I almost think it’s better to get a visual on RUclips and try google ads on that as a better alternative

    One thing that is interesting to do is re-route the ad campaign to your YT channel and then see the streams climbing. Then you know it the actual getting the song played once on Spotify that is the actual problem. Certainly lots of countries mostly have free Spotify customers.

      I think that is exactly what I am about to so. Becuase most of my conversions are coming from Mexico, Dominican republic, Haiti and the surrounding Caribbean islands.

    Thanks Andrew! I've run a successful campaign using your advise before, but have had issues getting anything off ground after my business was restricted on FB for unknown reasons. I've been running ads on my personal ad account with poor results over Christmas and suspected I'd been blacklisted or throttled somehow (the FB lady did say that something like this could happened) or that not using a business account gave me poor results.
    But then, going over everything in this video and making a new campaign, new ad groups, and A/B testing two ads with different visuals, using different parts of the song, I'm suddenly getting conversions at ~£0.08! Conversion rate all the way up at 50-60%! 80-90% of conversions seem to become listeners on Spotify! Save rate is 70%! Hoooraaay! Only thing is, the play rate is low, ~1.5, but listeners seem to listen to 1-2 of my other songs in addition, so in general I think it's good. Could play rate be influenced genre? I make art/prog rock, not exactly the kind of thing you put on repeat...

    Thanks for sharing all your content @AndrewSouthworth. I'm currently having this issue - decent conversion to Toneden landing page, decent CTR (60%) to Spotify link, almost no streams. As far as I can see, free Spotify users (on mobile) are always going to be a very big part of your conversion pool, but they can never directly follow a link to a song because Spotify just serves them some other artist's song. On that basis, it seems to be a miracle that you can get the conversion/stream ratio that you do (100 conversions = 150 streams and 25 saves etc).
    Logically, the FB ads approach should only work if you were able to target Spotify premium users in isolation, which you can't. My head is spinning and I feel like I am just paying Facebook to send people to other artists' music 😭. Am I missing something?

    Dude because of this video I fixed my ads and now my new single living light just did 2.5k streams in its first week for $150 and has a 90% save rate I’ve been running ads for 2 years and I’ve never seen anything like this .. the followers and everything… targeting India was messing me up big time lol

    Really appreciate the nugget of advice on how many streams/listeners you should be expecting based on number of conversions. That is really helpful and made me realize my conversion campaigns have NOT been working as well as they should. Not exactly getting 0 plays but not getting anywhere near the ratios you mentioned in this video. Trying the 1st tier top ten strategy to see if that helps get my streams up. Thanks for all the great tips.

    THANK YOU FOR THIS! The Toneden error thing happened to me and I couldn't make sense of why my conversions seemed to be fine but my streams/likes were WAY down compared to other campaigns. Turns out I wasn't using the full special link......

    Every video you post I find out about something new I was doing wrong. This time was the question mark on the link thing. I deliberately deleted that part and left only everything that comes before it because someone for some reason at some point told me something I don't even remember about it and how we should always delete that.

    Say we have set up our campaign as you’ve shown (conversion campaign that triggers when audience members click on link within landing page), what is the difference between the Facebook metric of “conversion” and “link clicks”. When reading the Facebook definition, it says link clicks are “the number of clicks on links within the ad that led to advertiser-specified destinations, on or off Facebook. My campaign has a huge amount of “link clicks” but pales in comparison on its conversions. Thanks in advance

      So link clicks just means the person clicked the button on your ad, landing page views are the person landing on your website, and conversions (if you set it up the way I do) are when people click the button on your website. So you'll lose people from link clicks to landing page views (page visits), and you'll lose more people from landing page view to conversions. Despite the loss though, things still go much better with this approach than trying to run traffic campaigns direct to Spotify.

    Turned out even though I pasted the link with the question mark for the stream source, it autofilled without it for Toneden. This might be why my stats were so wonky for so long - best not think about the money spent on those experiments I ran trying to fix it on facebook's end... Thanks for the great video, again.

    Do you have any videos with advice for fringe/niche genres? Not trying to conquer the world, just want to reach a handful of people who might be interested in niche music.

      Honestly all my ad tutorials will be relevant. Niche genres actually kind of thrive with ads because you can get specific. The only trick is finding the right interests, sometimes you have to broaden up a bit.

    3:16 you could always target just Desktop users, if they have Spotify on their desktop browser then they won't need the paid version to listen

    I wonder if that little =si part of the spotify code is why my latest conversion had 200+ view contents but no real translation to streams. Also, I'm curious how you're adjusting to facebooks new thing where they don't allow you to turn off detailed targeting expansion on conversions??? Or am I missing something where you can still turn that off?

    Thanks man! Question here 🙋🏻‍♂️ what if there’s only 1 adset that needs to be fixed? Do you really have to duplicate the campaign and turn off the old one? That would cause to send all the performing ad set back to learning phase and they may not be working as good as in the old version of the campaign..
    However I remember this one time I had edit an existing campaign (2 or 3 adsets out of 6 or 7 adsets) and the whole campaign went back to learning phase….
    What would you recommend please?

    Hey Andrew, love the content. I’ve started running ads recently and to my surprise, zero plays from my ad. I’m running my custom domain thru Toneden, I did have the “?” issue in which I changed the link. I also adjusted the placements as you suggested. Before my ads I had an average of 12-22 listeners a day and I’ve ran $100 worth of ads over 4 days ($50 before correcting and duplicating the ad and $50 after) with a total of 221 landing page views and still my listeners and streams don’t increase. Any suggestions?

      Btw I’m only using (what I thought were) tier 1 countries. I went to my ad manager and realized Spain 🤔 accounted for all of my recent landing page views almost 80 percent. I’ve removed it from my campaign. Also I only had 3 ad sets, maybe my targeting is wrong. I’m going to add more artist (interests) this is frustrating but I can’t wait to see results.

      @@IAmNoirAD it’s just the remaining text in the song link after the “?” My mistake was using a traffic campaign. I didn’t see “conversions” and made an assumption. But when you choose traffic or engagement you can then select conversions. I’ve rain 2 campaigns and so far I’ve gotten it down to 20 cent per conversion.

    I ran my first ad, only targeted USA. I had 140 clicks but only 6 streams in Spotify & Apple Music in total for a 2 day campaign. My link works. Idk what the issue is. I don’t want to target other countries cause I want to be big in the US.

    So let’s say the campaign is working but all you want to do is increase the budget? Should we do the duplicate technique for the budget as well?

      Nope only do the duplication thing if the campaign has a horrible mistake in it, like if it has lots of conversions but no streams. For budget just go right ahead and increase it.

      Is it possible that you can confuse Facebook on what is a conversion? For example, Facebook is counting the events that you setup for your pixel, but you end up with no streams. Will Facebook keep thinking that it's a conversion now since they are getting that event activated multiple times even when the song is not being played?

    Hey Andrew, have you tried running conversion ads on RUclips? Im wondering if its worth sending youtube traffic to spotify in an effort to hit both platforms at once, using the usual logic?

      I have tried this and it was quite expensive with very little actually translating to streams unfortunately. I spent like $500 trying to figure out a method that would work too and it was a no go. My conclusion was Google conversion ads for streaming were a waste of time and RUclips conversion ads for streaming weren't worth the cost, so now I use RUclips ads mostly to promote music videos on my music channel.

    Hey, I have a question.
    So, what to do if your target audience is based out of Asia?
    I get your point that most likely those viewers do not have paid versions of the Spotify app. If that is the case, would you recommend us taking those users to an app like RUclips instead?

      Yeah if your target audience uses something else, you're probably better off taking them to that something else. I know some countries have their own popular streaming site that isn't Spotify, but RUclips is also super popular everywhere for the most part. So its good that you realize Spotify might not be a good option for you, you just have to figure out what is the best option.
      Spotify is still likely relatively common depending on which Asian country, so it doesn't mean you can't do Spotify. But you may have more trouble with Spotify.

    Say I was just running ages 18-50 and wanted to change it to 18-35, would you recommend copying the ad set and then making the changes or should I edit that same ad set? Same goes with getting rid of some countries?

    my difficulty for me at the moment for my genre it that it has most listeners in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore but the ads does not convert well because i think most of the users are using the free version of Spotify. When they try to convert, the spotify will play a different song since they are on free version. when i tried to add youtube link of the music in the landing page, you can see it is working.
    So at the moment, i pitched my songs to the local malaysia, singapore, indonesian owner of the playlist with huge audience and manage to get now popularity index at high as 27 now, but during first week it was about 18 and 19
    so no discover weekly exposure. it only happened the following week when the popularity score reached about 22/24. but the release rasar bump is very small, i think because the save rate is very low since it is mostly discovered and listened in these curated populat playlist.
    what’s your take on this andrew

      Yeah this deeplink thing is specifically for Spotify, but there may be nuances for other platforms as well. For the most part i've only ever heard of Spotify having issues.

    Hey Andrew, me again. Sadly everything you talk about in the video is working correctly in my campaign, I'm just not seeing results in Spotify For Artists. For example, Toneden says many people from Colombia have clicked the ad, but SFA doesn't show even one play in their country. Does it take more than a week to ACTUALLY update on Spotify or is something weird happening here? Thanks a lot!

      If you're getting lots of clicks from Colombia and no streams, I would strip back your campaign to just the tier 1 countries I mentioned and launch it as a new duplicate campaign, and make a new ToneDen link for that campaign as well so you can track the data separately.
      Whenever I get lots of clicks from a country and no streams, I add them to my 'do not target' list basically.

    Funny enough, you said you've never had a problem with Mexico and Brazil. I'm here because i'm having issues with them. Only 10% are converting to listeners. Poland too was eating alot of the T1 budget and not converting at all oddly enough.

      Every time i've seen someone that says they've had an issue with Mexico or Brazil it's ended up actually being an issue with the placements chosen, the pixel setup or the landing page. I would double check that other stuff just to be sure.
      Maybe you are genuinely having issues with them, it would just be the first i've seen and iv'e done this thousands of these.

      Typically when people have issues with these countries its actually an issue with placements or ages, so i'd take a look at those.

    I literally have a €1.51 cost per conversion. It's the first campaign I set up and I pretty much followed your tips. For some reason, I had 841 clicks but only 24 conversions. How is this possible? And out of those conversions, barely no one streamed my song. What could be the problem here? I'm using distrokid

    Hey Andrew, thanks for this video - new sub here. I am having an issue with my FB ad spotify campaign, I am getting many 'link clicks' but this isn't converting into plays... do/did you ever find this to be an issue? Is link clicks what you mean by 'conversions'?
    I've just set up a new campaign and trying a carousel type. However, it wouldn't let me use my spotify link, so I had to use my linktree... which isn't ideal but hey... wish me luck haha!

    OK so here's a good one for you. Toneden (landing page and video content) is saying I have about 400 clicks in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina combined. Spotify says I have 6 streams from those areas. My facebook (which has the ad link on it) has over 30 likes from people who seem to be from those areas - so I know they have heard the whole song and like it. So what is going on here? I'm a Rock artist and those areas like the genre so I don't want to cut them out, yet the US has no money spent on it from the campaign. Brand new at this and not sure what the next move is.

      ?si=63cf938ffac94d0c is what it gives me. But all you need to do is get the share link of the playlist from Spotify by clicking the three dots and selecting 'Share'. It will have the whole code appended already, no guesswork.

    Hi Andrew, awesome video, thank you so much as I'm having rough times with this. Exactly as you said, with the new pixel and ad account it's tough to get streams despite having conversions. I tried to play with countries targeting, but still having mixed results and very few conversions. Do you think it might help to first set up the conversion goal as Landing Page views, gets more data to FB and then try to get conversions? Besides of doing Brand Awareness campaign and then retargeting with conversion campaign I'm out of ideas how to make it work.

    Hey Andrew! My ads were getting conversions at around 10 cents for the last 8 months straight, but then starting a couple weeks ago the cost starting wildly wavering. One day itll be 9 cents and the next itll be 50+ cents per conversion. Do you have any ideas on whats causing this wild fluctuation?

    How did you come up with the 150 streams from 100 conversions metric, particularly if you expect 50 listeners which would equate to 3 streams/listener?

      Yes about 3 streams per listener should be average. Remember if they click they must really like your song. Also expect about 50% listener ratio because even if they listen to your track if they don't listen for 30 seconds it doesn't register as a stream.

      Vince is correct here! Sometimes I have songs with 5 streams per listener, i've seen others with 8 streams per listener.

    Wondering if you or anyone here has experienced a lot of playlist adds and saves, but a low play/listener ratio?
    Everything with my latest campaign is going well, good CTR, decent CPC, etc, and the playlist adds are very good (107 adds from 128 listeners yesterday), but the streams per listener is about 1.6 over the 7 days of the campaign which is much lower than I've had before.
    I cant think of an explanation for this, so maybe someone else has had the same issue?

      So, I found out the reason my playlist adds are so high. After going through all the countries in Releases > Stats this period, for some reason Canada has around 300 playlist adds for only 11 listeners! Smells like bots, but from Canada? I'm confused.
      Anyway, thought I'd add this as it might help someone who's having the same 'issue' in the future (though I haven't got a clue how to fix it).

    I`m encountering a problem. Asking here, but also posted in your forums too for their input.
    Everything I`ve done was done in the same way shown in this video. Yet, my conversions are still not translating into streams. Lots of money is getting wasted trying to figure this out.
    Ad campaign Details
    Campaign Style: Conversions w/ $25 daily budget
    Landing Page: Hypeddit Smart Link
    Targetting: Spotify - narrowed further to Artists & Genre. Ages 18-34. All genders
    Placements: Stories only (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger)
    Countries: Adset A targets tier 1 countries and Adset B targets tier 2 countries while also having a $5 spend limit
    Ad Quality: Above average rating. I am getting conversions
    Any ideas on what`s going on and causing my issue?

    wassup andrew, the last issue u mentioned is happening to me right now. i was just wondering, how long does spotify take to update your streams? wen im checking my streams country by country n trying to eliminate bots, should i wait a few days for it to update first? or am i good to go in and make changes the day right after? like if i spent $5 in sweden yesterday, would my streams from there yesterday be counted on my spotify today? hope this makes sense, ty

      I think it's a two day delay sometimes but it should be within 1-2 days

    Hi Andrew, question for you - when I look at my Ad Set breakdown by country, I see that all of my clicks are coming from an "unknown" location. Should I be concerned about this? Is this a sign of bots/fake clicks at play? I'm only targeting Tier 1 and 2 Spotify countries (the same list you used in this video), but none of the clicks are coming from the countries I selected. Have you encountered this before?

      @@johnkilpatrick93 it's because of the iOS 14.5 update and the new privacy settings... those data breakdowns are no longer available for Conversion campaigns.

    Hey ! is it ok to put conversions then the spotify link?, ive been getting alot of clicks but does it convert over to spotify ?. or do i need to have a landing page?.

      For conversions you have to have a landing page. Conversions use the pixel to track results and its impossible to track conversions on Spotify itself. If you wanted to go direct to Spotify you'd use a traffic campaign, but in my experience that never goes well.

I see the link clicks 10k plus but I guess without the landing u can’t tell how many. Ok so best to do the landing page. They have to click twice I guess. Love ur videos.

    What is a tier😿also, sorry for all the questions, but how do I make a tier? Do I have to use ToneDen? I don't even know what that is omg I'm so exhausted I just released my first single and I'm drowning in work and I'm literally getting 3 streams when I put in all the wealthy countries and everything. I am planning to redo my ad, but just really confused hearing people talk about pixels, and now ToneDen. I will go look this stuff up but I'm just dead tired and this is the last leg of work for this single and I'm just ded. Any help would seriously be appreciated!

      You probably know this by now since it's been a year, but:
      Tiers are rankings of countries for marketing purposes. It's a list of countries to include in your countries list that you market an ad to.
      ToneDen is a "smartlink" landing page platform. For running conversion campaigns (a landing page with the links to track clicks on rather than just a traffic campaign where the link in the ad CTA goes direct to Spotify).
      Pixel is Meta's way of tracking actions a visitor takes. It's a numeric code Meta will give you and that you will put into Toneden, Hyppedit, or whatever conversion smart link landing page you're using.

    Hey man, have you had any luck running a instagram reel only campaign with fairly cheap conversion rate or do you tend to stay away from that and stick to what you used in this video for placements?

      So far every time i've tried Reels in a conversion campaign its been AWFUL. So for this type of campaign i'd avoid it and stick with what I used. Reels can work fine in Video View campaigns or retargeting though.

    damn i ran a campaign for tier 1 countries n got over 100 conversions. then i tried running to mexico and brazil. and it still doesnt work. just more bots. if i cant fix this i might call it quits on fb ads. its disappointing but im just wasting $ at this point

      Listeners are people, streams are streams. Each person can stream multiple times but they’re always 1 listener.

      Yeah Colombia can be unreliable in these type of campaigns. I'd put them in a separate campaign with a new link so you can track it effectively. I've also had better results targeting just Bogota instead of the entire country.

    I click on the dropdown and nothing happens. Is this only available for viewing if the ads are currently running? It also said to select multiple ad sets, I did and it's still not showing.

      ​@@AndrewSouthworth ​The drop down for the specific ad set to see the countries and other stats after going to 'Breakdown -> Delivery' and so on through those categories at 1:26 , All of those columns don't drop down automatically or manually. It must be because the ads aren't running.

    I spent $250 and got 0 streams on spotify. i followed all the tips on facebook ads via toneden and it still did not work. i only had tier 1 countries. toneden claims i had 999 clickthroughs. i liteally dont know what else to do as ive done every single thing in this vid and also tom dupree's. what waste of money :(

    I've been running these type of ads for 6 weeks and I get conversions for 0.03$ but the stream count is so low it's ridiculous despite thousands of conversions! The audience is an issue for sure, with FB always printing my ads to cheaper countries that don't seam to actually stream. I skim down the audience by increments until it starts to work... but OMG what a money pit!

      You’ll want to remove countries and re publish the campaign. That’s not an issue that you’re supposed to have.

      Thx Andrew. I did watch your videos thx! I modified (duplicated before) my current campaign for my album that got released yesterday and chose the tier one countries by hand (US-CA-european UK-Australia and NZ and handpicked what I thought were wealthy enough countries in Europe). With a preference for Spotify and my usual similar artists. I have 2 song adds that work really good with videos adjusted for the selected placements (4) and I avoided network audiences. By skimming my audience I went from 0,03$ to 0,11$ per conversion. Now I'll find out tomorrow roughly were my streams come from. Hard to tell live with streams coming from my socials and booked playlists...

      @@cgleif Well, I skimmed out countries in hope things would improve, but not much, it works for roughly 10-12 views a day on my YT channel but when directed to Spotify I barely get 1 stream a day despite hundreds of conversions... I tripled checked everything....

      That is true, but in this case i'm accounting for those already. Some people have had issues where even if they only have Spotify on the page, they don't end up with streams despite having conversions. Usually this issue is for newer ad accounts i've found, but also if people target too many countries.

    Hey Andrew, looking for guidance on this one. This current campaign I’ve been running has been awful in terms of lots of conversions with little streams in return. Like bad..
    My last campaign was my first real one. 1100 conversions. Descent success but I made the mistake of adding Nepal, and that screwed a lot of stuff up. I’m now concerned my pixel is ruined from sending so much bad traffic to it? Should I create a new pixel? And if so, will that cause me to need to “warm” my ad account again?

      This is just false. In the past month I can confirm I’ve seen it work for over 100 people either from zoom calls with them or from my agency clients.
      I have access to 200 Spotify for artist profiles and see it working multiple times per day.
      Saying conversion ads never work is like saying gravity isn’t real. If it isn’t working for you then something is wrong with your setup.
