I found your American sun oven at the Goodwill outlet north in Austin in the bins. Me and another buyer speculated as to what it was, maybe a solar vegetable dehydrator? I bought it on the off chance that it might be useful, I’m ashamed to say the pittance I paid for it. We get lots of sun in Austin, I will make good use of it! Thanks for the video. By the way, the only thing that was missing were the stakes which I can pick up anywhere.
Limitations are trees or clouds that pass over and block the sun, adverse weather and of course, you can't cook at night unless you have some incredible way to store the heat you made in your oven. I tried putting in heat sinks like black rocks or soapstone on the floor of the oven, but it takes longer for the box to heat up like that, but it does prolong the amount of time you've got a higher temperature once it does get up there. What this thing is great for is when it is too hot to bake in the summer time and you want to make a pie or bake bread. I've got pictures of some really beautiful pies and loaves of bread I made in mine and we live in upstate NY.
I just ordered mine! I've always wanted one but I couldn't "afford it." Well, I saw the coupon code on Preppr Princess channel so I jumped at the chance to buy the Dehydration and Preparedness Package. I've recently moved to Southern Mexico where there is sunshine all year so it will pay for itself. I can't wait to use it. Thanks for your video and for building such a great product with accessories so I can use it right away!
I love the new modifications to the Sun Oven. I have been using mine for 2 years and its just keeps amazing me. The best improvement is now having the T support leg. Having the ability to counter the effects of wind was the one flaw it had in the past. No longer an issue. I have to now think about buying the new Sun Oven.
I have one of these, I've had it for many years, it's so old it didn't come with the cube that tells you it's facing the sun. I just eye-ball it, it gets 350 degrees FAST with no issues!.... They are quite costly BUT, you'll be wishing you had one when the power goes out and you need to eat and you also have NO propane....
I love sun oven and have been cooking with it for 5 or 6 years. Don’t like the tilt pole though. It is too difficult to raise and lower. Button is too hard to push and the foot keeps coming unscrewed. I have been tilting with different height bricks instead of using the tilt device. Been this way since I bought it. But otherwise this oven works great and I use it all the time.
I'm sorry you're having a problem with the leg in your oven. I would recommend you removing the button completely and pressing it together numerous times so that when you put it back in the leg it will be easier to use. When you remove the button you'll see that the button is part of a piece that is shaped like a V, so when you press it together it will bend it a little which will make it easier to use when it's back in the leg. The best way to remove the button piece from the leg is to press the button in and use tweezers to remove the piece. If you can't get the button pressed in enough to remove the piece you can use a pen, screwdriver or something else small to press the button.
If you order online, they ship it to you. I don't think there is a physical store that sells them. I just say you asked 4 years ago. Hope you have one by now, if not now is the time.
I don't know that cookbook you are referring to, so I can't answer your question. If you'd like to email the recipe then I'd be able to answer your question. You can send us an email at info@sunoven.com.
My sun oven has only reached 200 degrees ,so have not yet cooked in it. My left cube shows sun is lined up, but temp has not gotten past 200. Very disappointed with it.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting your Sun Oven above 200 degrees. If you email us at info@sunoven.com, I'd be happy to discuss what may be causing the problem.
I’m cooking a pork roast right now in mine. I bought it almost 20 years ago. Still works like new. Love it!!

I read in one cookbook that a hole or so needs to be put in canning jar lids to put in the oven. I would appreciate any comments.
