Very helpful video, thanks for sharing! Maybe we could get even more milage from the solar cooker in less optimal circumstances.
Placing the solar box oven inside of a little greenhouse would block the wind and retain the heat inside of the box when regardless of how cold it is outside.
After the sun sets, we could continue the last few minutes of solar cooking by using a ceramic heating lamp directed on the box.
Ceramic bulbs are available in various wattage and produce heat without emitting light. But they must be used in a metal lamp made specifically for ceramic bulbs. A timer can be set on the lamp to help control the length of cooking time.

I love using my Sun Oven! I love that it’s easy to use and it actually works. The first thing I made was rice (if it can’t cook rice, then it’s useless for emergencies! Haha) and it did a beautiful job.
I like baking with it during the Summer so I don’t heat up the house.

Like Kylene, I use my box oven (Global Sun Oven) once every week--not just for emergencies. I make quiche and chicken rice dinners with no problem. It is well made and easy to use. A great investment.

I LOVE your channel. You don't spew armchair theories, but instead show practical methods that you actually put into practice. (What good is untested advice on surviving a zombie apocalypse? The last thing I'm going to do is run into the forest with a backpack and a buck knife.) As for my sun oven, I copied simple one from a cardboard box that I found on RUclips. It cooked a beautiful stew in a crock pot. After your encouragement I'll try some more!

Again another quality video. I stocked up on lots of cooking bags for my oven -- no mess. QOTD = I also use the oven for no knead bread, whole chicken once a month. I should use it more... Living in Florida its sunny all the time. Thanks.

Watching the part where the solar over is used to pasteurize water gave me an idea. The same process could be used to accelerate the making of sun brewed tea. Thank you guys for the best overview of solar cookers I have seen. We definitely need to add one or more to our list of gear and get some experience cooking with the appliance. Not for rainy season here in the Philippines but will certainly be a welcome addition the rest of the year.

Watching some of your older videos tonight, this one on Solar Cooking because Santa got me a “Sunflair Mini Portable Solar Oven” to take camping to experiment with. I asked for that one because it folds flat into a flat pouch & will tuck nicely out of the way in my minivan camper escape pod. So that gives me a 4th way to cook: butane/propane single burner stove, 12v HotLogic slow cooker, a Trangia style alcohol stove, and now this mini solar oven. I’m proficient on the first two, and have a long learning curve on the last 2.

When I was in Florida after Ian I was not able to cook outside because of the no see ums. There were clouds of them of course in the early evenings it was worse then and we had to run quickly to bring in the solar lights for nighttime.

REQUEST: Please show how to make a simple skillet bread on a rocket stove. Start to finish. the operation of the rocket stove, the heating of the iron skillet, creating the bread dough and cooking it. You are my "go to" channel and am getting a bit nervous re the unrest to come. It would set my mind at ease to know I can do this ahead of time. I think it would be well received by others as well.

The major problem with this type of oven will be when the grand solar minimum comes, which begins this winter. The GSM is due to a weak magnetic solar force which results in few sunspots. Sunspots give off heat energy which causes solar winds. These winds push cosmic rays away from the earth. With the GSM these winds are abated and the cosmic rays penetrate the earth and cause cloud nucleation, {cloud formation.} which reflects the sun's heat, thus cools the earth and blocks direct sunlight. The CR also penetrate the silica-rich magma chamber of volcanoes and cause eruptions. The ash plumes further block the sun's rays and cause further cooling. The Jet Stream is also disrupted and will wobble instead of straight lines and cause a polar vortex to head south and equatorial heat to rise north.
I do have a solar oven which I purchased before I received this information and know they work well. However, in light of this new info on the GSM I'm turning to wood. Blessings to you! Love your program. It's a ministry to those whose eyes are opened to what is to come shortly.

I've had a Sun Oven for 18 years now although I haven't used it for a few years. I have made all kinds of things in it including bread, chicken, & cookies which are great because they won't burn. I've had people smell the baking bread outside, come to my door and ask what it is. Now I'm interested in the water pasteurization capabilities it has.

You can use a magnifying glass and black metal plate. Using the magnifying glass, focus the suns rays onto the metal plate, in as small, tiny point of focus. You can almost weld using a magnifying glass. It could be used in conjunction with this solar cooker and really speed up the cooking speed. You can quickly fry eggs and meat on a black plate using this technique.

What I have never seen is using sun oven reflectors applied to a regular solar panel to greatly increase the efficiency of a solar panel. Box oven reflectors feeding the sun into a solar panel instead of the box for the pot.

An aside about the term "prepper". I believe in being prepared, but today a "prepper" has come to define those for whom preparing has become an all-consuming obsession rising to a near cult-like level of religious experience, missing many nice days prepping for potential SHTF and TEOTWAWKI days that might never come.
