Years ago on a 4th of July when it was well over 100 degrees, I just felt like I could not cook in the house because I did not want to add more heat to the house. So I talked my husband and his friend into building a solar oven. They built it outside in that terrible heat (I was out there with them supervising!). What a loyal husband! I have used it many times. I usually use it when it is too hot to cook inside. It is great!
We are just starting out at age 43 with a homestead and you and Patera are so wonderful. great to know you two are friends. good luck at the conference. praise god for your healing and witness.
I remember years ago (somewhere around the late 1960's), reading a book which I had checked out of the local library, which had complete "DIY" plans (including actual dimensions) to make a solar oven out of sheet metal. - The oven box itself when built, was around 14"(width (front to back)) X 15" (in length) X 12" (in height). - It (the box), was painted inside and out with a high temp flat black engine paint that would withstand temps of around 500 degrees F. - It had a 1/4 inch glass plate installed into the panel on top. It had a hinged metal door in the front side (just like a real oven). - It had 3 or 4 folding sheet metal panels which were highly polished (towards the box side), attached with hinges around the top edges which could be positioned towards the sun to direct the sunlight down through the glass top into the oven box and onto the pan, skillet, etc. which was placed inside with food. - I remember that it had small vent slots (cut into the metal) to keep the inside pressure (due to excessive heat), stable to keep it from cracking the glass top (but after all these years, I can't remember where they were positioned at (but I think they were on at least 3 of the sides)). - The reason I mention this is because I have yet to see a solar oven made from metal, which would stand up to rough abuse (out in the outdoors camping world), which would last for any length of time. - Most of them for sale on the commercial market now-a-days are usually flimsily (and cheaply) made out of cardboard, which probably wouldn't last for more than a few uses. - Oh well, so much for the (supposed), "cheaper the better, and throw-away", modern technology. - Anyway, there are the basic dimensions, if somebody decided they wanted to try and build one for their own use. - I take no responsibility for any burned fingers, or other personal injury's (if incurred), in the building, or the use, of such a device. - P.S. The author who had built it himself, said it worked quite well, and a lot better than he expected, and it did stand up for many years of use, and abuse.
What too many overlook is the other possible applications.....Sure its good for an oven... but they can also be used as a hot water heater.. That oven gets up to 350 degrees internally if allowed to do so.. What about making a coil within the oven that could pass water through it??? And with enough ingenuity make it easily removable with a valve???
The All American Solar Cooker is not made out of cardboard. Quote AASC "The All Season Solar Cooker is constructed using 4mm corrugated polypropylene. A 2 mil outdoor rated reflective polyester film is pressure laminated to the polypropylene."
I have the newest model of The ASSC. Love it. I live in the desert so I use solar cooking almost exclusively. I have a Sun Oven, A UGLI Hybrid, and two big ones that I made out of stainless steel cooler cabinets. I really love the ASSC though simply because its so portable, and because I am up before dawn and outside (am a farmer) - I can start the ASSC as soon as the beautiful sun peeks over the horizon. If you put a paver stone under the trivet, it won't blow away.
Just bought the All Season Solar Cooker and we love it! Already made Hawaiin Chicken and it worked great. I slice the chicken horizontally so it cooked really fast.
Jen Goods Mine works great. My compliant with it is cheap screws that rust, aligners glued to glass pop off, thermometer broke a month old. For a few extra bucks that oven would be bulletproof, don't know why they skimp, but whatever.
It is so wonderful when I can come across the rare REAL talks about items. I value honest info so much, especially in this day and age where information can be driven more by personal interests (money gain, making connections, etc) than by a real interest to provide the truth. I have thought about solar ovens, both for home use and for camping, so this is good to know. Especially since any camping use would require something that could take a bit of a beating and still do it's job!
Hi Starry, just shared this video on my Homesteading Board on Pinterest. Love your videos, I've wanted a Solar Oven for 3 years. Thank you for doing the giveaway, good luck to everyone and God Bless each of us!
Oh my gosh - I think it is the greatest and makes the best tasting food and cooks super fast on a hot day. I used my solar oven for the first time this month- it has been in storage for 2 years saved for Emergency Prep but we decided to have a practice week so we brought it out. We spent about $350 for All American Sun Oven. But using it for everything now. HOWEVER I have a Portable Rocket Stove and I love love love that for night time use especially.
Great video. Thank you. I'm not a prepper or off the grid or anything.. I live in a major city actually... But I just thought the idea of a solar cooker was brilliant, and I figured it could come in handy in case of an emergency, like a hurricane, or a power outage. I think everybody has experienced a power outage in their life. And I just happened to have picked the all season solar cooker like the one you're showing in the video. So God brought me to the right one! And I'm glad you created this video to explain the differences between them, because I have seen all of those different solar cookers and I didn't know which one was the best. The main reason why I went with the all season was mostly because of the fact that it can use sunlight from sunrise to sunset whereas most other cookers it's mostly only in the middle of the day that you can use it. And I've still never used my cooker! I thought about cooking a chicken or or something, like I saw someone do online, I start to check it out because I'm afraid I'm going to spend money on the food and do the preparation and everything and then screw it up somehow. But now that the hurricane is about to plow through America I may end up needing to use it sooner than I thought. So thanks for the video much appreciated.
Shared on Facebook. Been wanting one for a long but on limited income and just now starting my journey into homesteading. I'd be over the moon if I won. Watch your videos all the time. You and Justin Rhodes are the ones who convinced me I could do this. God bless.
Hi Starry. I shared on Facebook and pinned on pinterest. My daughter is 22 and is a beginner to homesteading. She desperately wants one of these ovens after watching your video. I'm so proud of her doing such an awesome thing in her life. If we don't win one of these ovens I will be saving to get her one for her birthday in July. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Hello Starry! Thank you for the great information. Shared on Facebook, twitter and email. Hope to see you at the conference next weekend! Have a wonderful blessed day!
Thanks Starry! You've answered a bunch of questions I've had about solar cookers. I want one terribly, trailers heat up awfully in summer. Sharing this to Facebook!!
Shared to Facebook. I don't have any other accounts. Thank you Starry (and Mr Hilder), your videos are full of inspiring knowledge. Blessings to you both.
I love my sun ovens. My only "problem" with them is during the winter, we rarely have enough sunshine in W. Michigan to use it effectively. (Using the sun in Michigan can be challenging!) But it works wonderfully when we DO have sun -- I love to use them instead of heating the kitchen up with the oven/stove in the summer. I'm surprised you can control / regulate the temperature enough to incubate yogurt or dehydrate things -- never tried that. Huh! I think mine would get too hot or the temp would fluctuate too much.
I would love to have one of these. I wonder if I can have one made. I have a nephew that is a craftsman. Nobody taught him. Didn't go to school for this. He just does it. He can make anything. I love your videos, especially the ones where you share what God shares with you. Wonderful and glorious. Be blessed Starry Girl. Shalom
Hi Starry, love your videos and found this video on solar cooking great! We are new homesteading and love all the info in your videos! Have a great day!
So sad I can't get to the conference this year-hope you'll be there next year too! Shared this on Facebook today! I've wanted a solar cooker for a while.

Thanks this has help me a lot I'm just starting out and by watching you I have learned so much I'm starting my canning aswell now I'm sharing on my face book thanks Good luck to all.i just pined it aswell.
hi starry.....i have shared your videos with all my family ...i have learned everything i do from you when it comes to homesteading....thanks...i look forward everyday...to seeing if you have a new video...not a day goes by that i dont mention your name to my husband well starry does this and starry does that...it has saved me hundreds of dollars watching and doing the things you post...he likes to hear me talk about all your stuff and ideas ...because it saves him money....so thank again...and have a great day
Hi again, Starry. Wanted to say thank youfor this sun cooker vid . Have been considering getting one but hadn't decided which brand, and the ones i had looked at were overbudget for me. This one is a definate win-win. Just finished placing my order w AMZN. It'll be here monday. YAYH!!!!!
Shared it on Facebook...Thanks for the giveaway, I've been looking at them. I'm so sad, I'm going to miss out on the conference this year, the money just isn't there. I went to the 1st one. I had a great time. I'm hoping to be back next year. Thanks Starry, sorry I'm going to miss you. You are an inspiration! Toodles!
Wow! This opens up so many possibilities! I will be looking into trying this out...lots of Texas sun rays to use! My very best to you and yours as you travel and teach at the conference! Have fun and enjoy the fellowship with everyone!
Starry, thank you so much for your very helpful and informative video! I was looking into solar ovens and close to buying the "Sun Oven" but then saw your video. You saved me three hundred bucks! LOL! They ought to pay you a commission, you know? I just purchased the All Season Solar oven (2017) for a little over a hundred dollars and the other company's product was $400 plus tax, etc. and didn't include as much as the All Season, nor was/is it as large! I'm so excited now and anxious to receive my new outdoor oven. Living in upstate NY, most places don't get a ton of sun as it is, but thank goodness the south end of my house has no trees obstructing and provides loads of sun for my garden - and now my coming solar oven! You're the best... I subscribed and am looking forward to learning more from you, super-woman!
Howdy Starry! Great discussion of items to consider when selecting a color oven. I used to have one, but it was WAY to big and heavy I'd known about the All Season Solar Cooker when I was deciding.
The evacuated tube cookers come into their own at higher latitudes where we have less sunlight available and need more insulation. I'm in the UK and we were able to cook bread in December using one of these, when a sun oven or panel cooker wouldn't work effectively.
All American Solar Oven has a Plex cover to keep the heat in. I have the older version that is advertised to heat up to 350 degrees. But that happens only if you constantly adjust it for optimum sun capture. If you don't adjust it to the passing sun, you can expect it to heat closer to 325 degrees and expect about double the cook time. I used the solar oven exclusively the first summer of purchase to get familiar with it. Now I have the peace of mind that I can cook with just the energy of the sun.
good evening Starry. You are just a joy to visit. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us out "here". But most of all, your special happy zeal.. Lord Jesus bless and keep you and Mr. Hilder safe. Shared this and several other vids on Pinterest w/in last 24hrs. Thanks for all the effort you invest in others.
Excellent video Starry! Very informative! xoxo Love the honest feedback! And THANK YOU so much for the opportunity to share and possibly win a solar cooker! :) I shared your video to my Facebook! :)
Plz do a video as to why this product is important. Why homestead living is important in today's world. I know ul do it well because u see the wisdom in living homestead off grid
Starry, You did a great video and really informative....Love and miss you you look so good...Gods been good to you from that terrible tragedy...Keep up the good work...
I've been wanting to get one but they're pretty pricey. We live in a mobile home so it can get really hot in summer so this would be perfect for summertime! Shared on FB btw, thanks for the info! 💕
Love you and God Bless you Starry and Mr. Hilder. I bought the same one you are using in the video..I LOVE IT! Shared this onto Facebook and then to my brother..Hugs and Prayers.
Similar to these you can use a Fresnel lens for very hot very fast cooking as seen from GreenPowerScience channel. If the solar oven is like a slow cooker, the Fresnel lens is like a microwave.
Thanks for the info Stary. I live in FL & have lots of hurricanes. Last year when Hurricane Matthew blew through we were without power for 12 days. Sure could have used a solar oven then. Blessings.
Morning Starry, I have shared your solar cooker video on my facebook page. I am so excited for you to be going to the conference. I would be so honored to be chosen as one of those winners of the All Season Solar Oven. I watch all your videos and follow faithfully.
I just shared this video on Facebook! I love you and this channel and if you say it's good, then I know it is!! I hope I get picked because I have wanted a solar over/ cooker for a long time!! Thank you Starry!!!
I love your channel and rarely miss a chance to watch your new videos. I'd LOVE to get a solar cooker one of these days. Thanks for the information, as I have bookmarked the solar oven site. I shared the video to my facebook!
this is so so awesome and thanks for being real and making video about all sorts of things that help real life people and also those who want to do little by little to become more self sustainable
Hi, Starry! You and Mr. Hilder inspire me so much! I wasn't able to get tickets this year but, hopefully next year. :) Have a safe trip. I just shared your video to FB.
I love your videos. I hope you have a wonderful day! And I've always wanted to use a solar oven. There's a lot of tutorials on how to make one. It's hard to choose on which tutorial to pick. I read reviews. Thanks for the video! I know we can buy a solar oven, but we like to learn skills, so we are in the market to making one. 😊
Thanks so much for your information on Solar cookers. You really got to the point. I shared with my Facebook group. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the Conference. 😊
85 up here at 7220 and within 1 1/2 hour my clear plastic tub of bagel bites were fully done ,, i make stir fry and freeze them , next day dashboard solar
I have acquired some large reflectix sheets that I'm going to make 3 or 4 different size ovens. I wonder if utilizing a car window glass for a front would make it get really hot in there.
One thing I saw was that nothing should be sitting on the bottom directly. They said to put a trivit on the bottom and then your pot on top of the trivit. It needs air flow to cook it quicker. 🙂👍
Starry have you cooked in the oven in freezing temperatures? I live in Canada and plan on getting one for summer cooking. If I could use it year round that would be great.
My car is a solar oven in the summer.
i use that too!!! Great fruit leathers
I rise my bread in the car in the winter.
LOL, mine too unfortunately im the only one cooking inside....
Yes, I have heated many a pizza on top of the dashboard! For real.
That's true.
Years ago on a 4th of July when it was well over 100 degrees, I just felt like I could not cook in the house because I did not want to add more heat to the house. All Season Solar Cooker sounds too long winded to say. Just abbreviate it to ASS Cooker instead!
🤣🤣🤣
You sir, won the internet comment for the day
🤨🤦🏾♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣 love the abbreviation
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for actual real info i dont think the new ones would last either besides a cardboard box wrapped in heavy foil probally work just as good
Most of everyone who owns and cooks with a solar cooker use them on the road. Limited space, portability, and storage is what sells these things.
What too many overlook is the other possible applications.....Sure its good for an oven... but they can also be used as a hot water heater.. Just bought the All Season Solar Cooker and we love it! Already made Hawaiin Chicken and it worked great. I slice the chicken horizontally so it cooked really fast.
I'm thinking about getting one. Can you actually use a silicone pot in this? My thinking is for storing all of it in a bug out bag. Thanks
I can’t get mine above 250*, I’ve used it 3x now. Such a pain.
I got an all American solar oven for Christmas, I'm still learning to use it.....
Jen Goods
Mine works great. My compliant with it is cheap screws that rust, aligners glued to glass pop off, thermometer broke a month old.
For a few extra bucks that oven would be bulletproof, don't know why they skimp, but whatever.
Really good review Starry. Very helpful. Thank you so much!

Carrie I know exactly what you mean! It is very very refreshing.
This is something I have wanted to add to our self sufficient lifestyle for many years💗💗🤗
I just made some lamb shanks in my solar oven. I was skeptical, but man they were delicious.
Hi Starry, just shared this video on my Homesteading Board on Pinterest. Love your videos, I've wanted a Solar Oven for 3 years. Thank you for doing the giveaway, good luck to everyone and God Bless each of us!
Shared through email... Love the solar cooker idea. Will help keep my home cool in the summer by not having to use my propane stove.. Thumbs up!
Good Morning Starry. Hope you have a great day.. Loretta , near Toronto
Hey Loretta, what's up?
I have been looking for one of those since my family and I moving off grid in June. I really like it.I hope I will win it 😃 love you Starry. 👍👍👍💖

I LOVE MINE! Initially, I had trouble assembling it, but, once it was up, it was OFF TO THE RACES!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your thoughts. I do have a question. What does it mean ‘all season’? What temperatures /climate is it able to cook in?
Great video. Thank you. I'm not a prepper or off the grid or anything.. I live in a major city actually... Boy would I like to win one of these; thus, I've shared this video on Facebook. Thanks for the teaching, Starry and enjoy the conference.
I own a GoSun Sport and GoSun Go. They work great, but are pricey. I bought them when there were mad promotions and got each one for at least $40 off.

Old projector TV's are easy to find for free. The front screen is a Fresnel lens. I seen people make a frame for these and put them in front of a pot.
good evening Starry.
Looking forward to the conference. Thanks for posting.
Thank You Starry. I'm in the market for a solar cooker and this review sold me on getting an All season solar cooker.
Excellent video Starry! Very informative! xoxo Love the honest feedback! And THANK YOU so much for the opportunity to share and possibly win a solar cooker! :) I shared your video to my Facebook! :)
Shared on Facebook--love the idea of solar cooking!
Thank you. I just ordered 2 from Amazon. Your manufacture's link did not work. We use a crock pot often, so this makes sense.
Very cool. Hope you have a fantastic time at the conference. :)
Whew boy! If this is a non bias informational video, I'm the man in the moon.
hi Starry, shared it on my Facebook...wishvi was going to the conference this year, just settling onto my homestead

Starry, You did a great video and really informative....Love and miss you you look so good...Gods been good to you from that terrible tragedy...Keep up the good work...
Shared on all our accounts. Love it!
shared at pintrest, fb Google plus. never heard of this one but I love the idea of using a bigger roasting pan
I've been wanting to get one but they're pretty pricey. We live in a mobile home so it can get really hot in summer so this would be perfect for summertime! Shared on FB btw, thanks for the info! 💕
I miss when you did videos from the homestead, your advise was so good back then. thank you for a good review.
Love you and God Bless you Starry and Mr. Hilder. I bought the same one you are using in the video..I LOVE IT! Shared this onto Facebook and then to my brother..Hugs and Prayers.
Great info Starry! I shared to Facebook. Have fun at the conference.
Similar to these you can use a Fresnel lens for very hot very fast cooking as seen from GreenPowerScience channel. If the solar oven is like a slow cooker, the Fresnel lens is like a microwave.
Inverted conical work pretty well too, though not as high powered as the Fresnel.
I have too many squirrels around. They ate my Thanksgiving pecan pie that I was cooking on my deck
Thanks for the info Stary. I live in FL & have lots of hurricanes. Last year when Hurricane Matthew blew through we were without power for 12 days. Sure could have used a solar oven
then. Blessings.
Thanks for reminding us....I need to look into this.
Thank you Starry for an honest review. Liked and shared!
Blessings ~
Morning Starry,
I have shared your solar cooker video on my facebook page.
The type solar cooker is advertised for hikers and backpackers. Traveling in no fire zones. As an alternative to gas stoves for backpacking.
This is eye opening! I've learned quite a bit thanks to this video!

I shared this on my Google and Facebook I also sent text messages this to my husband, mother, father, sister, and brother and his wife.
Thank you for explaining all of this! What is the actual brand and model of this one and could it cook two loves of bread at one time?
Hi Starry, I posted this video on Facebook. I wanted to let you know I think this is an option everyone should invest in.
Shared on Twitter. I don't facebook.
Thanks for the review. I have been considering one of these as well.
Good information. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Starry, I shared this to my Facebook community. I think this is awesome!
Thank you so much for sharing! I was wondering about these
It's a great video on solar oven so far....
could u pls tell me from where can I purchase it?
couldn't find in eBay though. thanks
I have acquired some large reflectix sheets that I'm going to make 3 or 4 different size ovens. I wonder if utilizing a car window glass for a front would make it get really hot in there.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind, I live in Long island, i don't know if we're sunny enough for cooking
