Correction: The wheels on this car are the optional 20" Aero wheels, not the standard 19" Aero wheels. Of course, Porsche would have two different aero wheels options. They are equipped with Continental All-Season Eco tires.

TheSmokingTire you sure Matt? The 21" don’t come in Michelins, but GoodYear F1 tires. Drove a Turbo this Tuesday with the Misson-E wheels and they where shod in GoodYears which are inferior to the Michelin PS4’s on my Taycan 4S. PS4S don’t come in the Taycan 275 section tires unfortunately, but the PS4’s do a great job. Never heard a squeal.

I think you might be overestimation the income of people who can afford Porsche’s. I’m sure theres plenty of potential customers planning to have the taycan turbo as an all rounder then being told by sales people that if they get the 4s instead for the weekly trips and family stuff they can have money left over to buy a proper stick shift weekend Porsche sports car. I’m sure there’s a lot of potential customers who love hearing that news.

That is the funny part. Alot of people would likely be shocked to learn that the 'fake' engine nose actually isn't. That this is the sound of this very motor, dialed up a ton. Also "Electronic Sports Sound" is an option on the 4S and Turbo (it's about $500 USD), not so much with the Turbo S which is part of the package.

I _THINK_ BMW is one of the few companies that gets specific enough to say that they play back the "best tones" of the engine through the speakers.

obviously these cars are very expensive. By "normal" I don't mean "Poor." I address the cost of these cars elsewhere in the video. But I can't dance around every single bit of phrase I use to make every single person feel better. By "normal," I mean it's the volume model within the range, and the kind of Porsche EV that will attract folks not looking specifically for a 700-horsepower nuclear weapon. A wealthy person might, for instance, buy a Taycan 4S for their spouse to use as a daily driver, even if the spouse is not particularly enthusiastic about cars. You would never want to hand a non-enthusiast, or a non-expert driver for that matter, the key to a Taycan Turbo S.

Thank you for the canyon carving experience! It's clear the car handles exceptionally well, and indeed there is little use for more power. It looks like Porsche has carved out a niche in the EV space where many others have failed, and that's awesome!
I suspect the 203 mile EPA rating is for the smaller battery pack. And of course real world range will be reduced with larger wheels and/or grippier tires. So it's not as crazy as it looks, but it's still disappointing that they chose the easier but less accurate method for computing their EPA rating.

The sounds are perfect for an EV, it looks great on the move, I like the size, and it looks like you're really achieving a fun and sustainable flow with the car! The lack of regen on the accelerator as an option is disappointing, and I hope they come out with an even cheaper, slower "Taycan 4" or something because I don't see why 560 HP and 6 figures have to be the entry point into a high-quality driver's EV.

Curious, how does Porsche maintain power throughout the battery state of charge? Did Porsche comment on this? Is it the 800 volt system, cooling, software? I typically see full power from 100%-75% in my M3P then it slow gets a little less fast from 70%-20% then starts pulling more power under that. Mine is always fast regardless but pretty amazing that Porsche maintains full power from full to empty.

Did the EPA test the smaller battery? Anyway, WLTP figures for the larger batttery car come in at around 463km or 287 miles. So its bang on the money with your Palm Springs trip.

Because they are having fun with the acceleration. Although I do think focusing on that one figure can be deceiving. Tesla's accelerate really fast, but that doesn't make them sports cars, they still handle more like a luxury vehicle.

What kind of tires were on the car that made them so squealy? And do you think that PS4S would reduce the range significantly? Thanks for the videos!

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  4 года назад +1

continental all-season eco tires. they are fine for all but the hardest canyon work. I do think a PS4S would have a noticeable difference on range, yes. Exactly how much I don't know.

Should I wait for Gen2, let the kinks work themselves out. It's not hard to find a CPO on the lot for such a new vehicle. Do I trade in my Porsche Cayenne Turbo with a killer 541HP V8 w/Exhaust package? Hmm. Not fair comparing a $110K vs $140K Turbo before options, but I do love the external design in Neptune Blue. I have no doubt this drives great and around curves.

As a driving enthusiast I think the pick is clearly the lightest, so 4S, small battery, no rear wheel steering, 19” wheels are enough. I don’t know how much weight that saves though

I think the fake sounds would be cooler if they were played much louder on the outside of the car. Gives you a reason to roll your window down when you go through a tunnel. I guess alerting pedestrians is good too.

I could hear it in the first take off clip but not in any of the others. Is it making a low pitched noise that the camera isn't picking up? I'm talking C63 volume.

You are on probably fairly narrow tyres (to help achieve the long km range) and i bet that car weighs a lot. fair play to Porsche to get it so manoeuverable, which shows, because you are asking a lot of a heavy car to tank it round the bends without squealing. you cant have the weight and the speed and the narrow tyres without the squeal unless porsche got their systems to cut-in and forcibly trim your speed on the corners. Fortunately they don't, so drivers are free to cover the whole range - 'not squeal, 'squeal', and then 'hedge'!! Looks an interesting car - no doubt some 'appearing in a hedge near you soon' until we get used to the power delivery. thanks for the review. Seb

It's hard to reconcile a 5000 lb car - at all - but how it moves is undeniable. Can't wait for the next-gen batteries that promise to be lighter and provide even more performance. Yep, the future is electric.
