Lifeguards confirmed they need to keep the powered board 300 yards off shore. I was out a couple weeks back when they were coming in very close and taking waves from surfers. The surfers we're pretty unhappy with them. It looks super fun but i don't think Porto is the place for tow-ins on small days with crowds on the inside.
It’s honestly so kooky that it’s cool . Hahah. Hey, Do whatever you gotta do to beat the crowd these days. There are entirely too many Barney’s in the water at every break post Covid. Hell, I’ve even done the gayest possible thing I never thought I would do…. and started sup surfing (gag) just to get outside the lineup and beat the crowd. Do what ya gotta do homie.
Sometimes they get a bit close to surfers. Seen them out at El Porto a bit. Those foils are huge and when they jump off the board you have to be careful not to get hit by it. Wish they could find a less congested spot to surf at since they need a lot of room.
We HATE these "dogwalkers" at my local pointbreak! They come too close to us and if anyone is ever run over by those foil boards they could easily be killed. We have even paddled out and highjacked their little motorboards. This is a major safety issue. It's a shame that it takes us threatening them to teach them to respect us, but what do you expect from jokers who pay $3000 to ride a wave. They have the whole ocean, yet always insist on using them where there are already REAL surfers. Please try to encourage them to stay far, far away from us.
I've never seen a surfer in a lineup at any of the dozen or so spots where these guys operate in the region get hit by a guy on a foil. But every day at every spot surfers are getting hit by other surfboards constantly. Most of the foil riders are life long surfers trying to get a way from the stink vibe in the lineup that crunchers puts off. These guys are part of the solution of overcrowding. They should be encouraged.
I talked to Jeff Clarke a few years back in SF bay (asked for a wetsuit zip before realizing who he was). Peter Schiebel had just walked by. I asked him why Santa Cruz folks were wing foiling in the bay instead of on the coast. (These OGs are legend BTW). The answer was the swell is cleaner, more space to spread out, and less kooks on surfboards who think they're REAL surfers. If you've ever foiled, you realize that it's the swell you're riding, not the wave. The guys in this vid look like they're aiming for that sweet spot behind the break, as well as intentionally avoiding the lineup. Good to take matters into your hands and teach them to respect locals... never seen that before in surfing. 🙄
You haven't hijacked anything; the remote remains with the rider. What you've done is put yourself in harms way and threatened people that would otherwise be very happy to have an adult interaction with you if you were a willing party to a conversation. "You look stupid and you're dangerous" is only half right. There is little danger involved to anyone but the person attached to the foil; you are safe my guy. How about you temper your localism and entitlement and put into context that there's nothing "real surfer" or "authentic" about paddling around on a piece of fiberglass wrapped foam. Or maybe you're a descendent of Duke's riding a hand hewn wooden board? We're all visitors here, we're all doing our best to live our best life. Energy spent in service of aggression could really be used more productively, in my opinion, and humble advice. 👍
This guy was very courteous and considerate but I fear not all will be when this catches on.
Seems like something that will remain niche like the SUPpers
Right, the other jerks who don't respect surfers, and always steal waves...
It's all about 🕖 ING. Let's keep a 👁️ on the 🌊...& See what happens to the whitewash! So to 🗣️.....
I’ve seen these guys out there everyday for the past like 3-4 weeks. Best way to beat the flat spell
the low cost version of a Takuma eTow
Seen these two out there a few times and indeed the are very respectful. Good luck on the project

one guy with one of these contraptions out at HB cliffs super odd to see but always kept to the outside like these guys.
Are they testing the foil or a tow-in robot?
Yeah this smells of some sort of product test.
He's riding a foil board. It's like riding a glider underwater. When he rocks or pumps on it, the foils are lifting the rider. Look up foil surfing.
Yep, I've just never seen one being towed behind an electric soft top.

They've invented a chariot.
I remember seeing this guy on the SL surf cams wonder "what the hell is that?"
Would be hilarious if they went on a big day at Lunada bay! 😁
the poo stance is killin' me smalls!
That’s so cool! Enjoying the ocean without getting tossed/worked or held under. Kind of a cool peaceful way to “surf”!
Wow I could really do with that , crashing white water on the foil is the worst bit about it 😂
He homemade this tow thing. He’s at Sunset every once in a while.

What soundtrack.was used for this vid ?
How far could they ride open ocean swells?
You can ride the open ocean swell as long and as far as your legs hold up.
Always see them at el porto.
Pretty clever! Imagine 200 of those outside the lineup.
cool
All the comments about respect from LA county surfers are hilarious.
Go to Topanga...always a group of those guys out there.
Not for very much longer if they keep up what they're doing....
meh. just go skiiing
Something for everyone…

@@koonzietwodude thank you. I am taking myself out of the lineup. So confused when the agros don't make that connection
