Honda has never really followed the competition in the "biggest horsepower outboard" game, where they really shine is reliability and refinement. The fact that the Coast Guard specs their boats with them is quite an endorsement.

I think we can only really jugde the engine after a good few seasons of hard boating. A half a day on the water in just one hull is… well… what it is.

Hondas are great, but to compete with Mercury seems tough.

And the larger the prop the better the push on the water and better fuel economy

Great video, nice to hear a balanced review where other channels tend to be overly complementary. TMS knows his stuff!

Big long talk about the engine, we don't get to hear it throughout the video...

Yeah this isn’t enough to make any breakthroughs. Merc and Yamaha will run circles around Honda in this section. Coupled with horrible availability of authorized service centers, it’s a hard sell for me

  • @MitchellKaplan

Honda will not be able to compete very thin on service dealers in most areas

That depends very much on where you live. I've spoilt for choice with Honda service centres in my area.

You only need an approved mechanic. All you’re going to be doing is changing the oil.

My experience with Honda outboard in a salt water (twin 225's on an Everglades 270cc) environment has not been good. Not particularly powerful nor were they super efficient. Also, every time I relaunched the boat from a trailer the O2 sensors would corrode and set off an alarm. Switched to Yamaha after that but now I'm a Mercury guy as they seem to have flown past everyone

What an utterly incompetent review. This is Honda's first "big" outboard and you spend 75% of the video talking about the boat and Adam Younger and how you'd like 65 pounds more up front? You worried about the boat being top heavy? What the actual fuck. Touch screen? We don't want touch screen, touch screens wear out prematurely and don't work in the rain or with gloves. We want buttons, which is what the Honda instrument has.
I've personally driven this outboard extensively and it's my current pick over the competition in the 350hp category. It's silent, feels like quality, has superb torque and fuel economy. Much better built than some other brands, then the warranty is probably the best in the business. This is an engine for professionals, not whiny reviewers.

Ah yes, thank you for your well-considered essay, filled with all the wit and charm of a soggy biscuit. It’s always a pleasure to receive feedback from someone who’s clearly spent years mastering the art of missing the point. You’re absolutely right - how dare we discuss the boat that carries the engine, or the very real-world conditions that professionals face! Madness, I tell you.
As for touch screens, yes, of course, because what we really want is more buttons, with no hybrid or forward thinking technology. Amazing how your fingers are so strong as to wear through glass panels and prematurely at that, after reviewing displays and using them both in racing and expeditions, clocking thousands of miles at sea with various brands, we have never heard or encountered a man that can "wear out" a solid glass panel.
Seeming there are only a handful of 350 Hondas rigged to boats at the moment, how you have "extensively" used this engine must mean you are on the Honda payrol or a biased Dealer. Just for your knowledge, when you analyse the transcript, 40% of the video is about the boat and the application, 60% of the video is centred around the engine.
Please; keep extensively driving outboards and delivering life-changing pearls of wisdom from the comfort of your keyboard, or if you wish, please empart your profesional opinions and join one of our "whiny reviewers" on camera to impart some real knowledge, you might gain more than 6 subscribers that way...Keep the swearing to yourself though. Cheers

Only 350hp? 😢 there are jetski’s which weigh a quarter of that boats weight with similar power outputs
350 is lame at that price, and it’s massive!

Have you compared this V8 with similar outboards from Mercury and Yamaha? 350 hp seems competitive. comparing it to a performance Jet Ski is probably not apples to apples don't you think?

      you are missing the point!!

    • @8180634
      @8180634 2 месяца назад +4

The difference is if you used that jet ski engine to push a big boat at full speed, it wouldn't last hundreds or thousands of hours under that load. The bigger Honda (or Yamaha or Mercury etc...) will. It's not about peak output, it's about reliable output.
