  • In today's video I explain how to do some really simple repairs to a Roland VH11 and Field Hi-Hat (old gen). Thankfully electronic drums aren't as complicated as they seem at first glance. All of electronic drums run off piezos or switches. In some extremely rare cases FSR or proprietary sensor such as Smart Fabric.
    Roland VH11:
    The bow area was loosing sensitivity, after opening up the cymbal, it turned out that the piezo disk had become unglued from the bottom of the cymbal. It was just dangling there. Because it lost contact with the playing surface, many of the hits just didn't reach the sensor. All I had to do here was re-glue it back into place.
    Field (old generation):
    Both piezos were firmly in place, the problem here was that one of the wires became disconnected from the input jack (the port where you plug in your cable). All I had to do was reconnect it.

    I'm not pretending to be a eDrum Fixing Guru here, there are others MUCH MUCH better at this stuff than me. This video isn't really a "tutorial," just pointing out some common problems you might run into, and how I personally fixed them.

      Hello Justin
      ,
      I purchased a Goedrum hi hat controller. I’m using it with the Simmons SD600. Do you know if it’s compatible with a Simmons module? Thank you for your videos and advice.
      John

    My alesis strike hihat suddenly wont trigger unless I hit it really hard and slowly. The two wires look glued in there well. I checked. What should I do?

    I am the same on eDrum DIY :) I am terrible at soldering but these fixes are so inexpensive, the two that you showed would have saved like $500 if you had to replace them so this was an excellent demo. Thanks as always Justin! I have a couple of older Roland HH and crash/rides that I want to try and fix.
    BTW, the snare sounds phenomenal, any chance I could get your setting on the Mimic Pro?

    Great video Justin. would you consider doing a review of the new Field cymbals? They look freaking awesome and seem to perform really well. I might buy some day if you approve of them haha.

    Next time you solder a jack like that, get some helping hands with alligator clips to hold it steady for you. Should you ever need to work on a board, you will need a better holder but the helping hands work great for things like jacks and wires.

    Is it possible to replace standart hi hat pedal with tower version (real pedal) on Carlsbro CSD500?

    I know you say "just soldering" like it's somewhat of common knowledge but I think it'd be cool to see a little guide for how to actually solder for people that are intimidated by it. I don't think a lot of people know how.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  5 лет назад

      This was literally the first thing I ever soldered. Originally I wanted to show in the video how to do it, but as I filmed myself soldering, I quickly realized that I was in no position to tell people "the correct way" to do it (because I was just learning how to do it right then). It took me a few tries and it wasn't pretty, but I eventually got it.

      I am glad that you don't treat soldering lightly. It is easy, but only after you can say it is easy! 😂Here's a GREAT playlist if you ever want to get into the hobby. ruclips.net/p/PL926EC0F1F93C1837 And the real secret to becoming a master at soldering is learning how to DESOLDER components off the board.

    Have a question about my edrum for everyone who reads this comment: when i play my hihat and simoultaneous snare/tom, the hi hat "block" the sound of the snare/tom. I cannot figure out what kind of setting can fix this issue, it doesnt seem like a trigger issue. Any idea? (sorry for my english)

      Lower the crosstalk setting for the snare, if you set too high it will mute the snare when you hit other pad

    I have an important question. Do you know if the Alesis DMPad 12" hi-hat cymbal can be used as a crash or ride? I have a Surge Mesh kit and all the 10" cymbals are identical and work as hi-hat, crash, or ride. I ordered a DMPad 12" hi-hat to replace my 10" hi-hat because it got great reviews and I paid $50 for it, slightly used. Well, then I ran across another one on ebay and offered $40 for it and my offer was accepted, so with shipping it was $52. I couldn't let that deal go by considering most of them go for $100+. So I'm hoping I can at least use it as a ride. I have two Surge modules connected through Aux and that setup works great. If you know the answer, please reply.

    • @hazreensaiful4534
      @hazreensaiful4534 4 года назад

      you can, but it will be single zone cymbal (without edge and choke)

    • @kschantz
      @kschantz 4 года назад

      @@hazreensaiful4534 thanks, yeah, I figured that out. It still makes a good ride though. The problem I'm having now is with Superior drummer 3. My 12" crash cymbals have the choke feature that works great. When I hit the cymbals and choked them, they each stayed in choke mode. They work fine in the Surge modules but in SD3 I can't get them to un-choke.
