I own the Drum-Tec "Real Feel" heads. They are VERY close to real drum heads. They trigger amazingly well. And they are tough as hell. Been using mine more than a year and they still look like new. Not cheap, but cheaper than Roland. I also got them in a few days. I was blown away how fast Drum-Tec got them to me.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Kyson Darren I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
One of the best, smoothest presentations I've seen on YT ever. Well done man. This is the way everyone should do product reviews and teaching. Smooth, answered all points, great info. Thank you.
Thanks man :) I really do appreciate your comment. I really wasn't good for the first 2 years of making videos, it's hard. But slowly getting better. Thanks again!
Fantastic video. As a woodworker and 40+ year drummer who’s had a few Roland sets I was kicking around getting a used acoustic kit and cutting the shells down to half size and doing triggers. Then viola, I found this video. Perfect timing.
Thank you, Justin, for another great video. I would not have considered converting my drum set if it wasn't for your videos. They are incredibly helpful and I keep referring to them as I progress in completing my set. I've always been a single ply girl on all my toms except for the snare, so I'm using the Remo SilentStrokes on all my toms. They pair up nicely with the internal Exreme Drums! triggers that I installed, so far, in my snare and tom. You can also have some control on their "bounciness" by adjusting their tightness. My dad misses using the TuneBot on the acoustic heads, but he's having fun learning a whole new world along with me. The snare has a Billy Blast 3 ply, and I switched to nylon tipped drum sticks to minimize any surface deformities. The Alesis DM10 module will do for now, because it has enough expandability to meet my initial needs. Besides, I'll be counting on a VSP to control the quality of my sounds soon, instead of my module. The biggest challenge so far for me? The acoustic sizes of my drums make most electronic cymbals look disproportionate in size to me. So I'm checking out the larger sized electronic cymbals that are out there, at the moment. Discovered the Pintech Visulites since we last chatted too. Just to give you a progress report on where I'm at. Thanks again, Justin, for you guidance. ^_^
Sweet! Glad the set is coming together Devikah :) I personally am happy I don't have to obsess over tunning anymore. It always too way too much time to dial in to get the sound right
Justin, thank you! I knew I find the answer I was looking for in one of your videos! I didn’t realise I could mount my module on to a cymbal stand, just tried it and bingo! I’ve been racking my brains to come up with an idea to mount the module on my A2E which is due to arrive with me at the end of the week. Keep up the great work and thanks again!
I really want to do something like this for a few reasons. First I like playing drums but I usually don’t have a lot of free time until late at night so I don’t want to disturb my neighbors and also if I were to move into an apartment it would be nice to have full sized drums that still feel like an acoustic kit but nowhere near as loud
My Pearl MMP is stored in flycases since 2013. Moving into a one bedroom apartment didn’t allow me to bring it with me. In the next year we might buy a new bigger apartment, where I might be able to have a studio for me. And I’ll come back to this video to turn my baby into an E-Drum. Can’t wait for it.
Just wanted to say thank you Justin your videos are very amazing helpful you sound very professional and you sound like you know what you are talking about I appreciate you thank you for the videos and all the information you provide in your videos and examples
Hi there, I have a bit of a convoluted question, hopefully you can understand. I am a newbe drummer, less then a year. I have an old Yamaha’s DTX 500 I think. I bought it from a friend who’s son gave up drums. I love the Roland VAD 506, except the $6,000 Canadian price tag. I’m thinking of making a hybrid set. I found an old Orbiton kit. It has everything plus it is red. The best sounding drum kits are red. LOL. I like the Roland TD17 SKX module. I can pick one up on eBay for about $730 CDN, or $850 CDN from a drum store. But I was thinking on starting by cannibalism my DTX kit for the module and cymbals. I’ve found a set of UKS Audio 2 ply mesh pads and a Red Shot Trigger pack of triggers. If I cannibals I get this done probably within two weeks for around $700.00 CDN. But, here is the million dollar question, is it all compatible? I realize it will not be a VAD 506, and it will only be as strong as the module. But if I like I can buy the Roland TD17 module and have a hybrid kit pretty similar to a Roland TD17 SKX. If I don’t like I can convert back. Your thoughts please.
Love your videos, as they are SUPER informative and very, very thorough. I would suggest though to talk more about drum sampling software such as Superior 2 or 3, Addictive Drums, and/or Steven Slate. Even the highest-end Roland modules still have extremely dated and unrealistic sounds (I've played the TD-50 in person and still can't believe Roland can't touch Superior Drummer's realism). I've used the TD-12, TD-4, TD-9, etc. Nothing comes close to the software. Also, a lot of the options you suggest are on the too-expensive side for a lot of people. I've converted acoustic kits over the years (7 different kits, and at least 10 for students and friends) for less than $1700 total, including every single necessary part (shells, etc), AND the Superior Drummer software. For example-- used: Roland PD-120 for snare, ddrum redshot pack for kick/tom triggers, Roland TD-3 or TD-6V module, CY-8s for ride and crashes, and CY-5 and FD-7 pedal for the hi-hat. Some misc hardware, multi-clamps, etc.... mesh heads... done. None of that breaks the $1700 barrier, if you buy the right set of shells (PDP Z5 for instance, or the Ludwig Questlove). Might be cool to do a few new videos talking about LOW-priced options, and discussing in detail, how much better the software samples are (it's hard to argue against Toontrack's quality over Roland). Again, LOVE your videos and think you're doing a fantastic job (I subscribed to your channel last night), but don't forget about the poor drummers out there, and definitely talk more about the software side of things. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I have been using the Remo silent strokes for about 10 months now, playing gigs twice a week three to four 45 minutes sets and not one has failed me yet. I did purchase a triple ply for my snare just to see what the feel would be. Definitely happy with it but would not spend the money for all of the other Toms. Don't think it's not that big of a great difference.
I love my new setup. 3 snare stands. Two old snares from ebay to make the snare and floortom and an old rack tom from ebay to make the tom. External roland rt30 on each drum. Yamaha kp100 mesh kick pad. Yamaha 15-inch ride and 13-inch crash. Go-edrum hihat controller with roland cy-8 cymbal. Megadrum drum module and focusrite audio interface. Addictive drums on laptop. Drumtec reelfeel mesh on the snare and roland 2-ply powerply on the toms. Around 1500 dollars but I put it together bit by bit. Just need to get a vh11 hihat i think as my cy8 is ancient and goedrum controller could break as its so cheap
Awesome Video. You for sure helped simplify this. I went to eclectic (TD17KVX), even the the set is awesome, I am finding the switch difficult due to lacking feel of a real kit.
If the bolt on triggers will work with the Roland TD25 , 30 & 50, will they also work with my Roland TD20X? Same question for the metal e-cymbals. Thank you for the awesome and super informative videos!
Can anyone tell which is better ? Converting my aqustic kit to electric with Pearl redbox(used), Pearl mesh heads, Roland and Alesis cymbals, ddrum triggers. Or Roland td-1dmk
Can I use my DTX 502 edrums with my Ludwig accent acoustic set just by switching heads & getting triggers. I current on my channel are all edrum with acoustic stand for my snare & cymbols. Can it be done even mounting the drums in the acoustic. Don't really want to get rid of my Yamaha but the look for my channel would be cool🔥🥁🎸👍
So im wanting to convert my kit into an electronic kit due to living in an apartment. My question is, if i buy the ddrum external triggers with the xlr. Can i plug those into my interface (tascam 16x08) or do i still need a drum module?
Hey man. I follow your videos and love em!!! What are your views regarding the Carlsbro kits? I'm planning to get the CSD600. How do you opine about that? Thank you in advance :-)
Could you please do a review of 2box triggers? Or tell about them? Because in description of these triggers you can read, that they are compatible with any drum module, but I read about some issues with Yamaha modules. Snare isn't triggering a rim. Is there a similar problem with Roland modules, e.g. td9 or td11? And also why pack of 5 cost about 130$ and a single trigger cost about 60$? Thanks! :)
I am looking for triggers that can be used with the Alesis strike pro module installed directly into an acoustic drum kit. Does somebody know any that works??
For modules with cable snakes... are the snakes pretty much universal or are they all specific to he module. Also when you purchase a module will it come with the necessary snake?
there might be an updated video of this topic out there but, if I use the megadrum midi trigger with logic pro x will I still have sensitivity/velocity different sounds like in a midi controller with an acoustic drumkit turned into electronic?
Any thoughts on the Roland TD-5? (As far as compatible triggers and cymbals) I know its an old module but I had it laying around and was wondering if I could start with that.
Justin, any chance you could do a video with a more in-depth review of the Prism drum heads you tried? You mentioned that you were not a fan of Prism or ZED because they didn't sit on the drum shell quite the way you wanted. What exactly does that mean? It would be great to have a lot more detail about your experience. Also, if you have any experience with drum heads from 682drums that would be nice to hear as well. Thanks man, please keep up the excellent videos!
I have my dad's old acoustic drums from the 80s with some missing parts, but for the most part it works for this. I already have a modified td-6v with all mesh heads and it's great for what I use it for, which is practice. I was loving this option because ive had the kit for 9 years and am so looking forward to moving on. I was happy with this option until you got to triggers. Can I get the dual zone for the snare, and the cheap triggers for Toms and bass without any issues?
I have an alesis surge kit that doesnt pick up double pedals because the position of the trigger on the '8 kick pad, what would be my best option i was lookin at this video on hopes of a '16 acoustic kit ans turning that to electric and somehow connecting it to the module? Or is their a better way, would also like to add cymbals and change sounds im a noob lol
I have a Pearl acoustic drums and I am looking for monitor speakers to use for the drum. Prices for Subs are very high and because of the space we have, it might be an overkill. What do you recommend I get? Thanks Teumac
I think I have a stupid question. But I just bought Simmons sd550. Its good, but I am not very impressed with the sounds. No budget left to upgrade drum module. I have an old Alexis sr16 lying around. I haven't used it much. Wondering if it is worth spending the effort to get the cables etc. Per the spec, It's 24bit sound etc. I just need to fine good cables with 1/4" to 1/8" connectors. Thoughts on how these modules 2 compare on sound ?
conversely there's the new yamaha module to convert you acoustic to electronic plus the alesis kit that 'looks' acoustic from the get go but is electonic
Hey, I have the TD-11KV which is just like the 11KS but with mesh toms and better cymbals. I would go with the Roland, because of the mesh snare pad vs. the all rubber pads of the Alesis. Also, the cymbals are better on the Roland in my opinion, they are extremely durable and sensitive. The biggest reason I would go with Roland is the drum module, the sounds are much better I think.
Making my kit electric sounds pretty expensive better to got with the kvx... because the vad306 is almost the same the only bummer with the kvx is that the toms are very small and with that white ring it has on the inside
Godd video with great info. Just earned a sub! Actually I've been watching many of your videos and don't really know why I haven't sub'd til' now.. I just bought a used PDP 5 piece kit that I'll be converting as a project. Checked out Jobeki's site due to your recommendations and really wanted to go with them for heads and triggers, however I'm reading horror stories about how long they take to deliver. Especially to the US. I just don't have the patience to wait two to three months for an order from ANYONE! Looking for state side alternatives but it appears there aren't many US based options for stuff like this sadly. I know this is an older vid so wondering it you have any alternative recommendations that are current. (Conversions.. not complete sets..) Thanks, and great videos. Keep up the good work!!
If you havent bought anything yet I would seriously look at the Convertible Percussion triggers. I just made a 14 inch snare with their dual zone trigger and it rocks! Better than the PD-120 it replaced. And supports positional sensing on my Roland td10. Nice price. $45 dual zone and $40 single zone with discount on multiple purchase. Got mine on ebay. Easy install. Simple sturdy design. Was delivered in less than a week.
Hey Justin! I was thinking about your opinions on the WHD 517-DX pro Edrum kit. I think it retails for £650 but I think I found a great deal for about £330. If you haven't played it, that's fine. Just by looking at reviews could you tell me if it's a good kit! Thanks a lot.
Hey Justin, little question. I was just looking on some websites to buy the jobeky internal drumtriggers in packs but I can't find any website who sells those in packs. Do you know one? Thanks!
Hey? Just wanted to say I just subscribed I love your channel..i have a collection of acoustic drum sets i just purchased my first electronic drum set a roland Td50 and just wanted your input on if I did an awsome purchase and what's your advice I spent a pretty coin as you know for buying my first electronic set and I always said I would never spend that much money until I discovered your channel and did some research...just would appreciate your input on quality and was it worth it " I will be receiving my new set in 3 weeks thanks
I'm asuming you bought the Roland TD50k? Yes that's an incredible drumset. One of the best in the world. Spend a bit of time with the module to dial in the sounds, and I think you'll LOVE it. Great drumset, I've played it 8 times now
Hi Justin. What are your thoughts on the versa triggers? They seem like a nice way to trigger VST software, but there is not a whole lot of reviews for them and I am scared that latency might be an issue with them.
Thanks, bucknaked31 good to hear from someone other than the manufacturer. They really seem like a solid idea if you only want to trigger VST software. What are your triggering experience on them?
Edgar Whyte They have worked fine, my only complaint is lack of solid documentation for the trigger settings. The software for their receiver is pretty complicated as far as their being so many settings that can be tweaked, some of them I don't understand and some I figured out by trial and error. I would suggest using trigger cones and the boxes that have jacks for your own triggers as the ones with the built in triggers didn't work as well as I would have liked and I rewired those to make them trigger with external cones and they worked much better.
Hi there Justin! Thanks for all your amazing videos, your advice is always part of my buying decisions :) .... One question if you dont mind : Have you tried the Magntrac drum triggers that use Neodymium Magnets? Prices are great and they work for cymbals too! Im looking to buy some and was hoping to hear your opinion on them? Thanks!!
Hi, I'm looking to turn my acoustic kit to a hybrid. Can I use my Alesis DM10 module with triggers on my acoustic drums? If so, what trigger brands are compatible? Looking at external dual zone triggers like ddrums or roland. Thanks
I'm getting more and more interested in MEGAdrum, I just haven't seen a lot of YT content on them. Would be great if a thorough e-drum RUclipsr would cover it ;)
Hey great vid justin! I was wondering, I got given an amp (peavey TKO 115 scorpion) and everything I feed through it on my electric drum kit has been muffled or dosnt sound like it dose through the ear buds and I have been fiddling with the module and the nobs on the amp and I still can't get that clear sound im looking for. What can I do. I have a roland td 11 if it helps.
I made a new and improved version of this video that goes WAY more in-depth: ruclips.net/video/j80f-jt4w-I/видео.html
Thanks for all this work, Justin!
"They are incredibly expensive because..... Roland" XD
LOL
I own the Drum-Tec "Real Feel" heads. They are VERY close to real drum heads. They trigger amazingly well. And they are tough as hell. Been using mine more than a year and they still look like new. Not cheap, but cheaper than Roland. I also got them in a few days. I was blown away how fast Drum-Tec got them to me.
Sparedrums, they made a 3 ply head that is cheaper and it's very close to the Real Feel
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Corey Otto Instablaster ;)
@Kyson Darren I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm.

@@65Drums Thanks man. Not trying to pick apart your channel at all... I geek out about this stuff and have for the past 10 years. haha.
Excellent video for all who wants to convert acoustic to electronic drums! Congratulations Justin! I love all the drum-tec e-drums! :)
I have been using the Remo silent strokes for about 10 months now, playing gigs twice a week three to four 45 minutes sets and not one has failed me yet. I get what you're saying, I used a 1ply on my floor tom for a long time, worked well for that remo silent strokes are pretty durable too
Is the triple ply much louder than the single?
I love my new setup. 3 snare stands. Two old snares from ebay to make the snare and floortom and an old rack tom from ebay to make the tom. External roland rt30 on each drum. Yamaha kp100 mesh kick pad. Yamaha 15-inch ride and 13-inch crash. Go-edrum hihat controller with roland cy-8 cymbal. Megadrum drum module and focusrite audio interface. Addictive drums on laptop. Just need to get a vh11 hihat i think as my cy8 is ancient and goedrum controller could break as its so cheap
Thank you so much! This covered everything I needed to know. Subscribed
I recently discovered your channel. Man you are killing it! Thanks for the info I'm thinking seriously now into electronic migration.
Thanks Dude! good luck in your edrum research :)
"Yamaha is in their own little island" 🤣🤣🤣
When converting the snare into electric do I gut it and take of the snare wire and just trigger it?
considering fully converting A2E,
you can convert your acoustic cymbals too by installing cymbal triggers from companies like stealthdrums.
yes, but I wouldn't recomend doing the cymbals. The drums are easy, the cymbals harder.
A two zone trigger can trigger rimshots and crossticks? Or for that youll need a three zone one?
I use the bottom of a cymbal stand to put my module in. Isolates it from vibration.
what a damn good video..good job man this was very helpful to me
Great video! This is exactly what I was looking for!
Would the Alesis be a good option if I'm just triggering the drums and recording real cymbals with overhead mics?
You also see external triggers on acoustic drums to trigger gates.
Phenomenal video. Super informative.
Awesome Video. You for sure helped simplify this. I went to eclectic (TD17KVX), even the the set is awesome, I am finding the switch difficult due to lacking feel of a real kit.
Just here to get some ideas on how to DIY conversion from acoustic to electric using my hold roland pads.
Aquarian makes great mesh heads too
Do you have any experience with the Millenium MPS-750X Pro Mesh Bundle
Do you like the Evans dB one heads for the application?
Awesome video man
Hey justin can you give more information on using or buying hai hat for this setup?
Your vids are great man! Lovin it!
If the bolt on triggers will work with the Roland TD25 , 30 & 50, will they also work with my Roland TD20X? Same question for the metal e-cymbals. Thank you for the awesome and super informative videos!
Can anyone tell which is better ?
Converting my aqustic kit to electric with

I really know nothing about triggers or electronic drums kits. How well do you think using real cymbals would work on a hybrid kit?
man your kit sounds amazing
What is all time best set up? Module and kit and cymbals? (Cost not a factor for this question)
No love for the Pintech Reaction heads? They're made by Evans for them, and I feel like the fit and feel are pretty great.
So im wanting to convert my kit into an electronic kit due to living in an apartment. My question is, if i buy the ddrum external triggers with the xlr. Can i plug those into my interface (tascam 16x08) or do i still need a drum module?
Could i do the same if i buy electric cymbals too? Il be running it through protools with my GGD
Hey man. I follow your videos and love em!!! What are your views regarding the Carlsbro kits? I'm planning to get the CSD600. How do you opine about that? Thank you in advance :-)
Thanks justin I appreciate it keep up the awsome videos!!!
Thanks! I really appreciate that :)

I want to convert and use the kit as a midi controller for drum vsts in my DAW
I am looking for triggers that can be used with the Alesis strike pro module installed directly into an acoustic drum kit. Does somebody know any that works??
For modules with cable snakes... are the snakes pretty much universal or are they all specific to he module. Also when you purchase a module will it come with the necessary snake?
Couldn't you buy an internally-mounted 'center' trigger and offset it between the center and the rim, where you want it?
Since Roland ride cymbals have 3 zones, does this mean that this cymbal is compatible with an Alesis Strike module?
there might be an updated video of this topic out there but, if I use the megadrum midi trigger with logic pro x will I still have sensitivity/velocity different sounds like in a midi controller with an acoustic drumkit turned into electronic?
Hi Justin, can you review the drum-tec Jam Stage with Roland TD-17 (black sparkle finish)???
Hey man, Great video!!! i just want to know how can i get the rubber pads for the rim... did you buy them?
Can I use my Alesis Strike Pro kit to convert an actual acoustic kit?
Any thoughts on the Roland TD-5? (As far as compatible triggers and cymbals) I know its an old module but I had it laying around and was wondering if I could start with that.
thanks for this!
Great video! Very helpful!!
Great video Justin
Thanks!

Thoughts on the Zildjian Gen 16 cymbals? They look great but are they any good? Also are they compatible with the TD-25 module?
Ignore that comment have just seen you already have a video on the subject. Thanks!
Any tips on how to convert electronic to acoustic
Best for practice drums in silence ? Nfuzd module and pads?
I have a Pearl acoustic drums and I am looking for monitor speakers to use for the drum. Prices for Subs are very high and because of the space we have, it might be an overkill. What do you recommend I get?
Thanks Teumac
With the side mounted internal triggers how many do you need per drum? 1 or 3
I think I have a stupid question. Thoughts on how these modules 2 compare on sound ?
conversely there's the new yamaha module to convert you acoustic to electronic
plus the alesis kit that 'looks' acoustic from the get go but is electonic
So will the old school Alesis trigger IO still work?
Can you make some videos on the ddrum hybrid kits
I'll keep it in mind
Hi, I own an Alesis Surge kit. Could it ve possible to turn an acoustic bass srum to electronic, using that Ddrum trigger to use it with that kit?
Wheres the video on drum module settings? Cant find it
Hey Justin should I spend the 900$ for a Roland TD-11K-s or three hundred for the alesis nitro?
Hey, I have the TD-11KV which is just like the 11KS but with mesh toms and better cymbals.
I would go with the Roland, because of the mesh snare pad vs. the all rubber pads of the Alesis. Also, the cymbals are better on the Roland in my opinion, they are extremely durable and sensitive. The biggest reason I would go with Roland is the drum module, the sounds are much better I think.
Making my kit electric sounds pretty expensive better to got with the kvx... because the vad306 is almost the same the only bummer with the kvx is that the toms are very small and with that white ring it has on the inside
how can you use the Kat KT4 module with a conversion kit? It uses a cable snake.
+Eric Muellerleile easy, just plug the cable snake into the triggers
Hey Justin just curious you think the atv module is mid range I think it’s more of a high end module then a midrange
I've used and reviewed it for 3 weeks, personally I just don't think it's on the same level as a TD50 or a mimic
what do you think about donutDrums triggering his L80s?
(Conversions.. not complete sets..)
Thanks, and great videos.
It's a tough question because WHD isn't sold in America, I've never even seen one in real life. But for the money, it seems like a fair price
Awesome! Thanks :P
Hey justin I was wondering if jobeky edrums worth it
Are Pintech Cymbals okay too?
I've only tried one of the lower end Pintech cymbals. But think they are fine
Hey Justin, little question. I was just looking on some websites to buy the jobeky internal drumtriggers in packs but I can't find any website who sells those in packs. Do you know one? Thanks!
So much information. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Marcelo! you're right, I did cram alot of info in this video. But I wanted to do a big overview of all the aspects that go into it :)
super helpful!
Great drumset, I've played it 8 times now
Is there anyway to add triggers to the silent cymbals like l80 or the sabian QT?
yes
Good one!
Hey I have a Yamaha DTX950 so what triggers would work the best in conversion.
kod65 +1
Hi Justin. What are your thoughts on the versa triggers? They seem like a nice way to trigger VST software, but there is not a whole lot of reviews for them and I am scared that latency might be an issue with them.
Edgar Whyte We are using them, they are about 5 times faster than MIDI. They don't use Bluetooth, so no worries...
Thanks!!
Thanks man! I tried them, they broke on me within 2 weeks so I returned them for a refund
Would be great if a thorough e-drum RUclipsr would cover it ;)
If megadrum ever sends me a review unit I would cover it. There's too many products out there for me to just go and buy only to do a review
The nfuzed is down to $700. It is probably the best option on the list.
Thank you this was great.
