  • @nacooper
    @nacooper 4 года назад +3

I'll just leave this here since the topic hasn't really been covered on most of the channels I've seen.
The Yamaha cymbals are not completely proprietary to their modules as mentioned elsewhere in the comments. You can plug them into something like an eDRUMin which will detect the cymbal type and adjust accordingly to it. Yamaha cymbals achieve 3 zone triggering with a single cable because of how they are wired. The Roland cymbals separate the zones using a second cable, Yamaha uses a resistor on the same 1/4" TRS to eliminate the need for a second cable which is why you can't use them on other modules. The other third party cymbals are also wired to support Roland.
So, with that said, if you are using one of those boxes with a VST you will get 3 zone cymbal triggering with a cheaper cymbal than what any of the favorite companies listed will provide. You just have to have the time and patience to configure the box to sweeten the zones for your playing style but honestly if you want the best sound and playability out of your edrums you have to fine tune them.
Hope this information helps, as there are companies out there doing some pretty awesome stuff that aren't getting much exposure. It might be because the boxes I'm using only have four ports, but toss three of them together with a VST and you have a more capable system than a TD50 for around $800 if you throw in the cost of Superior Drummer 3. I'm using Yamaha cymbals and my triggers are wired for Roland. They all work in the boxes I'm using. You can save money with diligence and discipline in your technology and get better sounding gear than an 8k ATV or Roland kit.

Wowowww... Hello from India brother!!! ... Great explanation and content there. Keep coming with videos such as these.
This questions isn't relevant to cymbols but on SD3 and very sorry for being wet behind the ears on the topic of VST Drumming. I am contemplating to buy the SD3. But my edrums are pretty basic (Carlsbro SC D600, I wonder whether u heard of this? It is around $750). So, would I be able to seamlessly use/exploit superior drummer no matter the make or model of my electronic kit?
Meaning, be it a top of the line Roland/Alesis or the $750 model which I'm possessing, would the sounds generated be the same quality from SD3 with both these kits when interfaced or setup properly with the SD3 VST? ( here that, I'm ruling out the quality difference of the pads or heads themselves, or perhaps a Roland kit might have presets within SD3 to aid set up sensitivity etc and possibly the discomfort of smaller pads on the $750 kit compared to top of a line Roland). But you may tell a kit makes a player good to an extent. But still not bringing these to light the crux of my question is:
Would I be able to bring out the similar sounding drum grooves or licks or an audio from the SD3 VST, no matter the kit being put behind the VST to trigger'em?

I think that it's strange that no Yamaha cymbal made it into any of Justin's top 5's.
It must be Justin's preference because it's not like the Yamaha cymbals are inferior. (they are also better priced than ATV and Roland)

Justin, I’m just starting to dive into the world of electronic and/or triggered acoustic drums and cymbals for home studio recording but I don’t know much about it yet, I’ve always been an acoustic drum kit drummer. Loved the video. I'm glad to see you listed the best $2500 set as the Strike Pro SE. I'm very drawn to this set and want to get it based on all the features, pads, and that you can tune them and make them feel closer to acoustic drums. I'm wondering if you keep in mind the ATV EXS-5 when making that ranking. Although the alesis set excites me more, i have some skepticism built up after looking at so many things online the past couple weeks. Thanks!

It would be cool to have a electronic symbol manufactured to look like a acoustic metal symbol,...some sort of new technology, with a thin metallic coating or veneer....I believe who ever can come up with this and incorporate a wide variety like those for acoustic drums is gonna make a fortune.

Another really great video Justin. Cheers man. I was >this< close to buying the VH13's which I saw on marketplace for a ridiculously good price but then looked up comparability with my trusty TD9 and no dice! I don't hate my VH11's though. But I'm desperate for a larger ride and it's hard to go past Roland's 18 so I'm feeling a module upgrade might finally be in the cards soon...

QUESTION: Of the hit-hats featured here, which ones will work with an Alesis Strike Kit? And Brazilians watch more videos with their language.
Here, in Portugal, we speak the English language a lot. But in other countries with the official Portuguese language, English is not so widely spoken. Here I leave the suggestion. I love your videos. You are an excellent communicator. Thanks.

I don’t see anything on YT from you an the cymbolic hi hat system with their little foot pedal insert thing. It seems to have some support out there with those that use it. I’m going from a rack mounted hi hat to a stand. Already have the stand. Hi hat sound quality and realism are important to me but I want metal not rubber. I’m weird that way with any cymbal. Thx

What are those cymbal wingnuts at 8:53 in the video? I have one cymbal that continues to loosen after a few hits and I cannot figure out how to keep it tight. Thanks!

Not sure if anyone could help me out here, but has the Roland CY16-RT officially come out yet? And if it did, where can I purchase it? I can’t find it anywhere, and if I do, it’s from a shady foreign website that lists it for about $500 USD. So I was surprised when Justin said it was $350, which is MUCH more suitable for my budget. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Sweetwater is a trustworthy Roland retailer. If it’s not on Sweetwater, odds are it’s not yet available. If you’re in Europe you can check thomann.

    1) are you aware of any triggers only available for acoustic hihats/cymbals ? I know there are brands that sell metallic hihats for 400+. Full 5 piece cymbal set could cost 1000+
    2) Thomannmusic has a hihat set with stand for less than 150 shipped to us. Comes with their top end millennium 1000 model

I would like to add a cymbal to my Td- 25 kvx but all the output jacks are already used. Do they make an attachment to add more cymbals to that kit?
